We were visiting some friends in Milton and wanted to get a bite for lunch before heading out. They suggested Blackwater Bistro. The place is really quaint with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The menu includes a great variety of different items. The soup of the day was a green chili chicken stew that sounded too good to pass on, so I ordered that along with a side of Gouda grits and a side of sautéed green beans. The grits were delicious! The green beans were very good; and the soup was good. My wife ordered the Philly Cheesesteak with sweet potato criss-cut fries. The fries were bomb! The sandwich was okay, she was trying to figure out what was missing. On the way home she realized it was missing cheese. A cheesesteak without cheese?!?! Service was very good. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. This bistro is not cheap by any stretch, but it is good and I'm sure we'll return. read more

Growing up in Pea Ridge, I've heard of the illustrious Blackwater Bistro my whole childhood. This was the fancy place in town to go to if you had a hot date, or for before you go to prom. I never made it out, though, until I moved away, got a job, and then came back to visit recently. I went out to explore downtown Milton some, checked out Blackwater State Park, and got hungry and decided to finally come check this place out for lunch. So we drove up, got a table, and started browsing the pamphlet they gave us of the history of the building. It was a quaint little read. The restaurant is in an old house that had many different lives over the course of its existence. It was wooden, comfortable, had a nice bar built into it. Very cozy and rustically upscale. The service was also very good. A nice lady that tended to all of our drink needs. Very pleasant. And the food came out in a timely fashion. As for the food, we started with the The Sampler (A mixture of our house favorites: Artichoke cheesecake, Baguette, Loaded Brussel Sprouts with Shrimp, Coconut Shrimp with Mango Chutney). This was nice. I love a good savory cheesecake, you don't see that very often. It was very interesting loading the sprouts with shrimp, but I've never said no to a shrimp. And the coconut shrimp were pretty standard. It was a good plate, but not mind-blowing, if you wanna try a different app. My main was the Creole Crawfish & Andouille Pot Pie (Louisiana Crawfish, Savory Vegetables, Andouille, Cajun Cheese Cream, Puff Pastry). This is a loose-leaf pot pie. So basically a gumbo with a puffy piece of puff pastry on top. So it's a lot of fun, but don't expect a lot of crust with each bite. Super creamy, super Cajun in the seasoning, no regrets getting this. I also got to try the The Blue Salad (Filet of Beef. Signature Assorted Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, Cucumber, Bleu Cheese, Balsamic Vinaigrette, Candied Pecans, Bleu Cheese Dressing). This was a good salad! Nice and tender strips of filet, funky bleu cheese, sweet and crunchy pecans. I love a nice interesting salad like this. Nothing boring involved. And a ton of that delicious dressing. Overall, the Bistro was well worth the wait. Good vibes, good food. I'd come back. read more

Pros: Ambiance was very cool. The restaurant is built in a historic house in downtown Milton. Very classical and rustic and old feeling, in a good way. Service was very nice. All our needs were met, and food and drink came out very promptly. Food was great! Everything was cooked very well, and they had an appetizer sampler, which I love so much. Cons: No real cons. A nice experience. Tips: Get the appetizer sampler. Sharing is caring. And the seafood pot pie was very fun and delicious. First time here and was recommended. Parking in an unpaved all ground up coral is not our thing. Dust everywhere and not happy with our shoes all chalky coming into our vehicle. The place is very quaint and historic but seating is a little tight. Waitress was nice and made a few suggestions which I ordered. A chicken salad on a croissant.Nothing fancy and the croissant was too thin as it kept falling apart. The sweet potato fries looked crispy but as I picked one up-it was covered with salt! I tried eating another one but could not stomach it. The waitress offered to replace it but my stomach was upset and couldn't handle any more fries. I'm sure it's a local restaurant and could tell by the patrons. read more

This is my second time here...I'm not local but have enjoyed this place both times I've come! The service was great- Natalie was an awesome server... she was attentive, friendly, and funny! She gave good suggestions- the lumpia and brussel sprouts were very tasty!! The brussels were my favorite. For entrees, we all had something different: chicken bacon ranch wrap, cheeseburger, fish divine, triple threat pasta, and the gumbo. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. My wrap was great and good size, very filling. Portion sizes are plentiful! It's a nice date night spot or a fun night out with coworkers. After a long drive into Florida, all we wanted was a good dinner and a calm evening. And Blackwater Bistro delivered! There was a talented man playing live music, cozy ambiance inside and very friendly staff. The drinks were great and the food sit just right. We ordered the ribeye steak and it was everything we wanted. They cooked it to perfection and our salads were delicious. Our waitress was attentive and ready for our requests. Loved this spot! The manager or owner needs to teach the young hostess discretion. When the place was almost empty and the hostess told us we couldn't seat at a table on the porch. We had three people and it was a table for six. It wasn't peak time either. Pretty snippy too. Other than that the food was still good. Last meal, maybe? I took my best friend with terminal cancer for his possible last meal out. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated, which was acceptable. Fifteen minutes passed, and no one took our drink order. I noticed people who came in after us were beginning to receive their food. I approached the wait staff and politely told one of the servers about our situation. She breezed by me and said I don't know who your waitress is. Five minutes later, a waitress was heading to our table as we quietly left. Twenty-nine minutes from the time we entered the restaurant to the time we left. My dear friend is a local and was exhausted from just the short walk to and from the car. The locals we know who eat here regularly rave about this place. Charming find!!! Those beautiful home nestled in a neighborhood offf the main road. Its not on the river as some may assume but its perfect. Staff was amazing and restaurant was clean. Food was good but nothing to write home about. We paid $40 for a 16 oz steak which we expected to be amazing. It wasn't. It was overcooked and my husband doesn't like to send food back so he ate it that way. I had the lobster ravioli which were good, but again, not great. Then, this is what I get for not looking at their website and only the reviews, they had live music show up at 6pm and it was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves think. First time dining here and it was excellent! Restaurant interior is an old home style. The bar room was very nice with an acceptable amount of room. We dined outside on the front porch since it was a nice sunny day in May. We were greeted promptly by our server, Josi, who took our drink order and helped us navigate the menu. We almost ordered an additional side because they were absolutely delicious!! We have had sweet potato fries many many times and these were best we've ever had! For desert we ordered the bread pudding and it certainly did not disappoint. The bourbon sauce was balanced very well and the pecans add a great texture. As we wrapped up our meal and waited for our bill, I made the remark to Josie that our entire experience was nothing less than 5*.
