Nestled in a corner in the heart of Mt Lookout is a little coffee shop called Lookout Joes. It shares a space with Vinology tasting room. The first thing that you notice walking up is a nice amount of outside seating curbside, then upon entering the smell of freshly roasted coffee and hot buttery croissants. You're greeted by a couple friendly servers. It's very small inside, a few tables and some seats by the front window, so I imagine at a busy time of day it would be tight inside. I ordered a ham and Swiss crosspoint and a small drip coffee. (Sumatran Italian roast). It was under $7.00 before tip, not bad! I sat in the last table facing the door and noticed an apothecary style wall cupboard full of ground coffee! Service was fast, in and out in no time. And my food? O m g, delicious! Flaky, buttery, right amount of ham and cheese. My literal thought was that I should have ordered 2. The coffee was 5 stars alone! Just go, you gotta try it. This place is amazing. Discovered it one day and returned the next for more coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and roasted beans to take home. The service is friendly, warm, and swift. They have regulars and remembered their standard orders even with a line 10 people deep We had bacon/sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches on croissants and they were delicious and fresh! My Aztec mocha was the optimal blend of spicy and sweet and the kids drank their hot chocolate in the blink of an eye. I wish I still lived in town and could visit here more. It's a coffee shop in the morning and a wine bar in the afternoon! I love this concept. I got an ice tea freeze which was ice tea and fruit blended together. Been getting the grasshopper here for years, which is my favorite guilty pleasure for coffee in the city. (Mint chocolate chip latte if that's your thing). Typical cozy neighborhood shop with very friendly employees, good coffee, nice selection of food options and plenty of space to sit, indoors or outdoors. Lookout Joe has been on my must-try list for awhile. Pros +it's right on Mt. Lookout Square, which is super quaint +walkable to Ault Park & Observatory +parking is unlimited not too far after the metered parking on Linwood/ Delta +there's a sunny patio with umbrellas +they roast their own coffee / offer fresh grinding (with a wall of roast options) +the self-serve coffee options have six different daily brew choices +the large coffee mug is only $2.10 and comes with a refill Cons -the ambiance / interior itself is a bit uninspired; nothing special (tables are rickety, you could get lost sinking into the couch it's so squishy) -it's situated on a busy intersection: parking seem daunting... you just have to relax and resolve to park farther up the streets (or at the metered lot) -there are no plugs at the tables, so your work time is limited to your laptop battery (there's an extension plug available but it only reaches the couch and one table). I don't get over by Mt. Lookout terribly often, but when I do I know where to stop. Lookout Joe is a cozy spot that really adds to the walkability of the Mt. Lookout area. Some afternoon I'd love to read and have a coffee here and then finish with a walk through Ault Park. read more

Update: tried the tiramisu. To. Die. For. I'd like to shake the hand of the man or woman who made it. So good. Really enjoyed this place for a quick, 20 minute chill session. We arrived 30 minutes before closing on a week day and never felt rushed. The only thing that still haunts me is that I didn't get any of the desserts. The chocolate and tiramisu are calling my name, a week later. They offer several other options like quiches. The barista was super friendly. I asked if he could make a Starbucks style caramel macchiato (I know, don't make fun of me). He said he's never been to SB so he doesn't know what that is but if I tell him the ingredients, he's try his best... well, he came back with a pretty darn close caramel macchiato! Kudos to him. I really like the large selection of coffee on the wall. It is self service and you can even grind your beans. The art on the wall is all for sale and there's several tables for gathering. The couch is pretty gross, it could use a cleaning or a burning. I hope they can get a new couch soon. Favorite Mom part: they have a shelf of toys and games to keep the kiddos occupied. read more

The layout is perfect for getting cozy and spending a day doing work with a hot drink and one of their delicious looking pastries. The staff was extremely nice and my latte was delicious. The menu had a lot of options and their pastry case was completely full. If you're in the Mt. Lookout neighborhood I highly suggest giving this local joint a visit in the next few weeks. Stopped in to get a drink to go. The big drink menu on the wall behind the register did not list prices. Why?! Besides the large menu on the wall behind the counter there were at least three different menus on the counter and wall listing drinks and food. (The food menu did have prices.) I advise looking around at the menus before you order. I would have ordered another drink if I had noticed that particular menu sooner. I got a medium mocha and it was $4 and change which seems comparable to other places. The mocha was ok. Service was friendly and it looks like a good place to sit and work. I've known about Lookout Joe for years. I'm pretty sure it's been in Mt. Lookout square since I was a child. I had never made the trek over until a couple weeks ago when I wanted to try a new coffee shop while doing some work. Lookout Joe has a small patio in the front perfect for people watching. The inside has a mix of couch and table seating, perfect for getting some work done or sitting and chatting. I posted up at one of the few tables available near an outlet. One downfall with the set-up is that many of the tables best used for laptops are not close enough to a charging port. Luckily, I was there on a weekday morning and there were only two of us on computers. The coffee menu is straightforward with your typically coffee suspects. There's a small menu of breakfast & lunch sandwiches as well as a display case with daily goodies (bonus points for selling Donna's Gourmet Cookies!) I ordered a tasty mocha and some Highlander Grogg coffee to go. Behind some of the seating, Joe has a large selection of coffee beans that he'll be more than happy to grind up for you. The WiFi password isn't listed anywhere in the shop so make sure you ask for it when you're ordering. Lookout Joe is comfy, welcoming, and they offer quality coffee in the heart of the square. It's so calming and nice to sit around for awhile and even maybe play a board game and have a big comfy couch. The smell of coffee surrounding you makes you feel cozy. Lookout Joe is a good, laid back coffee shop off of Mt Lookout Square. There are a few things that I like about this place: the coffee that they roast themselves, the fact that they serve food, and the service was friendly. I think their decor is a little lacking and it could be cleaner/tidier, but overall a solid 3 star coffee shop. Lookout Joe roasts their own coffee beans, and I think that's really their strongest selling point. Their beans are very good, and they have lots of interesting coffee flavors (I tried the turtle one that tasted exactly like drinking caramel hot cocoa). They're not the best coffee beans in town, but they're really good. They have a punch card that you can get for coffee beans to go or for coffee. I also like that they have a small food menu...most coffee shops in town seem to only serve pastries, but I appreciate a full meal. They have a few sandwiches, pastries (the stuffed croissants sounded good!), and Donna's gourmet cookies. I thought the prices for their sandwiches (around $5) were very reasonable, but the chicken salad we tried was just ok. They have a nice little outdoor seating area overlooking the square too. Overall, a nice place for locals to stay a while and relax, but I don't know if I would make a special trip to get here. read more

The quality of the coffee is good. I'm under the impression they roast their own coffee on-site. They have a huge selection including pre-brewed selections. They also have all the fancy coffee based beverages you'd expect to see at any other trendy coffee shop. They also serve a variety of snacks and have an impressive looking food menu. Sweet coffee house in Mt. Lookout. The atmosphere was laid back, especially for a 9am Sunday crowd, and the staff were friendly. We were able to snag a corner of the couch (tables, couches, chairs, patio are available) and chill for a bit. Coffee - good, self-serve or crafted. My almond-milk latte was nice. It's easy to tell the roast their beans on-site - from the flavor of the coffee. We ordered pastries and quiche, both of which were good and reasonably priced. We plan to stay in this area when we come down for a weekend trip, and we will make this one of our stops. read more

My husband and I continued our coffee shop exploration around Cincinnati, and Lookout Joe was next on the list! 5 stars and here's why: -Coffee- perfectly perfect! The menu is big and selections are plentiful! I ordered an almond milk latte (my usual). It was done so well, perfectly creamy and delicious. My husband ordered an espresso frozen red velvet drink (he's always the adventurous one!) and it was SO good! -Atmosphere-quaint, neighborhood, chill vibe. Lots of runners and locals coming in and out of the shop (clearly regulars). Also groups of teenagers, older gentlemen, couples, a mixed crowd for sure. Family friendly -Location- located in Mount Lookout Square the coffee shop is easy to find (and ladies, there's a nail shop right next door!). The only downside to the location is the parking. You can attempt to find street parking (on the weekends, good luck) or park in the public parking for Mount Lookout Square, which you pay for of course. Overall, I would highly suggest stopping in if you're in the neighborhood.... even if you're not, I would recommend this one! read more
