Second trip here this year. Its a small business but very well ran by one women. She is absolutely incredible kind fun friendly and personal. I have been coming here for almost 10 years. She remembers her customers and orders. But with her snd I we make it fun and I jist pick a size and hot or cold and she makes me something and I have to guess the flavor which I enjoy. The WORST coffee shop I've ever been to. I've tried lots of different coffee shops but this one is by far the worst. My mom and I walked in while we were walking around Newport on vacation. I was very excited..but that excitement turned to confusion after we paid $35 for two "Large" thin mint coffees that were literally the size of a kids small and a small bag of cape cod chips. The owner tried to talk our ears off and acted a little too nice the whole time to distract us. The cups were full of ice (which she charges extra for) and a splash of coffee with flavoring (which she also charges extra for per flavor). Each drink was $15 and the SMALL bag of chips was around $5. Coffee was mediocre too. Here's a pic that doesn't really do justice as to how small the cup really was. DO NOT GO. I've never been so quick to write a review but this was the biggest rip off. I got two large iced coffees and one banana and it was over $32. I was so shocked that I paid and left without saying anything and now I'm mad at myself that I went through with paying for it. The large size is very small and the water in the picture was not purchased there and just a reference to show how small these drinks were ! Absolutely insane. We bought three iced drinks and three pastries. Total was $73.12! This woman is a THIEF. She talks your ear off while slowly making your drinks, takes her time, so you start nibbling and sipping while you wait for everything else to be done. By the time that happens, you have eaten half the pastry and drank some of your drink, so you have no choice but to pay! What a DIRTY way of duping people. The oatmilk late that my sister ordered barely had any oatmilk, so when she asked to give her another splash, this crazy owner didn't want to! My sister literally had to talk her into it. Honestly was hurt by this experience. Just got to Newport was excited and wanted some ice coffee. And got ripped off. The owner can't be that nice and sweet when you openly steal from people without them really knowing what your doing. I agree with many of the recent reviewers and this place should probably be skipped. I drink plenty of snotty coffee from world class coffee establishments and this place cost more for basic drinks than anywhere I have ever seen. $24 for two drinks. That alone would not be enough for me to leave a review but the lady was remarkably rude and then the drinks were not even passably good. One got thrown away. A "large" coffee is $15 and it's tiny. The cup is the size of a grande from Starbucks and is packed with ice, so you're actually getting an espresso shot worth of coffee. I drank it in five sips. Also, the owner is extremely loud/talkative. She scream talks at you the entire time she's making your coffee, which makes for an uncomfortable experience. It also slows down the line considerably as everyone is stuck listening to her when it's their turn. I'm sure she's nice, but it's extremely annoying. read more

This was the most expensive two iced coffees I've ever paid for my entire life. It was over $30 for two supposedly medium size iced coffees. She charges separately for ice. I'm not a frugal person, but this is a rip off. I've had iced coffee at high end establishments and never paid what I paid here. She was the only one working so she obviously puts in a ton of non-stop work... BUT THE PRICES. Holy moly. I get its Newport, but we paid $28 for two cold brews and a bottle of water. Coffee was average too. WE GOT CHARGED A DOLLAR EXTRA PER COFFEE FOR ICE. THEY WERE COLD BREWS, THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ICED. Then we got charged another dollar per coffee for vanilla syrup. The shop has a cool atmosphere and the lady that works there is really nice. However, the coffee is not as great as it sounds - I got an irish cream for my husband and a monkey mocha for myself and they both tasted the same. It also takes a long time to get coffee. I love this place! We were visiting Newport and needed a nice place to warm up since it was a rainy fall day. The strudel was so good - felt like a hug. The spiced chais were nice and warm and had the perfect amount of sweetness. The owner runs the business, and she is a delight! The moment you order, you feel like a regular. I was torn about how many stars to give. I think 3.5 would be most accurate but I'll always round in favor of a small, independently-owned businesses. We came by this coffee shop on a rainy morning and much appreciated that they're dog-friendly. The owner was very friendly and chatty. She told us she baked all the pastries herself. I'm always willing to pay for quality, but 2 lattes, 1 zucchini bread, and 1 banana bread for $41 + tips was beyond my wildest expectations. The coffee and the pastries were good, the cafe cute. We were staying at the Hammetts right across the walk and didn't want to travel far to get some coffee and breakfast treats. Such a convenient location in the heart of Newport.. right on the harbor. Alissa was over the top full of life and energy, which was addictive! She mentioned that she makes all of the baked goods herself... the cheese danish was delicious! She offered to warm it up, which was very thoughtful. I ordered a white chocolate raspberry iced latte which didn't really taste like it had any coffee in it, but maybe that is a good thing. She was also thoughtful of my 11 year old who we are keeping away from caffeine and made hers as a steamer which just milk. Very cute shop in an excellent location. Very close to the hotels nearby. The owner was so sweet and welcoming and we chatted for a few minutes! My one concern was the pricing. I got 2 coffees, 2 pastries and a banana and it came to over $51. I was shocked and had to clarity that we rang everything up correctly. Each item was $10-15 which is the most expensive I've ever seen at a coffee shop (and I am visiting from LA). The owner assured me that the beans were high quality which it tasted delicious but I couldn't fathom the prices. Local businesses and residents of Newport openly mock the Coffee Grinder. "It should be a felony to go there," said a neighboring business. The crime? Highway robbery. A small croissant wrapped in cellophane (that bore a striking resemblance to those at Cosco) cost $9. Five small pastries should not cost more than $50. Every other coffee joint has a line out the door on weekend mornings, but the Coffee Grinder is virtually empty. They - and you - should take the hint. Avoid this place at all costs! It's not worth it. We always go to local independent coffee spots and are used to paying premium prices for good coffee. This was the worst Americano I have ever had. It was weak and smelled musty. We got 2 medium Americanos (which were obviously small) and 2 pastries for $38! That was a Costco muffin that was still partially frozen. The banana bread was really dense and pretty flavorless. There are plenty of other small coffees places nearby that are worth the wait and price. This was clearly a tourist trap.
