Do not waste your money here. It was completely empty when we walked in for a reason. I was uncharged $1 for ICE in a COLD BREW. To me, cold brew comes with ice, seeing as it's literally meant to be cold. I paid $9 for 12oz of coffee that is just okay. It was on the higher price but considering all the baked goods are all baked by the Alyssa and the scone was absolutely amazing. You need to be willing to pay a little more for the incredible view, excellent service and fantastic product. The banana bread was a delicious explosion of flavor. It was moist and rich and just filled with so much love. It is made daily by the owner and her husband and you can certainly tell. The latte was frothy and flavorful and tasted even better because of the views of the slow passing sailboats and meandering of tourists in and out of the near by lobster bar and waterfront dining options. This is a great little stop while in Newport and a way better alternative to the corporate owned shops that line the streets in this small town. read more

I am a great supporter of small, local businesses and I know it has also been super hard on them post-Covid. This is a nice, pleasant little place with a strong, intelligent and independent female owner. Kudos to her for keeping the business going. Yes, there are a lot of shocking reviews about the comparatively hype prices for some of the beverages and especially the bakery items. I get that. Does the place need to be a bit more transparent about what they are charging? Yes! just remember where this is located and how expensive it is to do business in an area like this. Granted, I would rather pay a bit more reasonable price and show my gratitude and helpfulness with the generous tip. The coffee drinks are actually prepared fairly well and while I think bakery items are just average and definitely not really deserving of those high prices in the free market, I still think overall that supporting a small business owner in this environment is important event at these prices I don't think this ladies living in one of the mansions over on the coast and I hope that everyone show some kindness and understanding by supporting this hardworking business owner. read more

I'm giving this one star because that is the lowest I can go. The atmosphere was very cute & the woman was friendly (or scamming me). I used to come here all the time. But overtime the charm has just completely diminished. There are so many overpriced coffee shops in Newport that I am willing to pay extra money for. However, as someone who supports small businesses, this place felt like robbery. First of all, the small size here is SMALL. 8 whole ounces. Actually 5 ounces when you take the ice into account. The cup was just slightly bigger than that of a Dixie cup. Imagine that now filled with ice. It was like a DROP of coffee. I actually went home and measured with ice and everything and it is confirmed that you're getting 5 ounces. Also, I ordered a mocha, which cost extra. THE MOCHA WAS HERSHEY SYRUP. I expected at least a barista-type mocha sauce, ganache, powder, literally anything but Hershey syrup that I have in my fridge at home. My mom ordered just a regular iced latte, same size. We don't even know how much each coffee was because she just told us a price without us being able to see what was on the screen. The prices were the most atrocious thing about this place. I paid $16 for two small coffees. I'm pretty sure the woman overcharged us, which seems like a pattern seeing other reviews. I understand that this is a small business, and it can be difficult to stay afloat. But I can't recommend coming here & I will certainly not returning, especially when I can spend less for more coffee at Starbucks or other small business coffee shops within a mile radius of this place. read more

Went biking yesterday in Rhode Island and got stung in the arm. Later that day, we stopped by Coffee Grinder. The sales lady raved about her beans - Bristot from Italy - so we ordered a half pound of whole beans to go, not thinking it could be too pricey. But she rang it up for $15.00! Given she'd packaged it for us specifically, I decided to just pay this crazy price and learn not to take anything for granted. When we got home, I noticed the package seemed a bit light so I weighed it. Including the somewhat heavy packaging, it was 156 gm. A half pound is a 226.8 gms. Small little walk-in shop by the piers. Not very busy, but also hard to find - you'll need to walk through the overpass and duck inside to your right. The staff is friendly and prices are reasonable! Also has a small selection of pastries! read more

Upon walking in you'll find a warm and friendly owner, small selection of snacks and homemade scones in a space no bigger than a closet. There are water facing chairs outside but on a windy day you're welcome to hangout at a tiny table inside the nook of a cafe. Everything is a liiittle pricey, but honestly I can't imagine that rent is cheap when you have a splendid view of the water. We spent about 40 minutes here snacking and hanging out between shopping and wandering around Newport. There's no London Fog on the menu, but if you ask nicely it will be made well and to your linking. Sometimes Earl Grey really hits the spot on a chilly day! Mmmm! read more

I stopped by here a couple of Saturdays ago with my wife for our morning coffee. We were staying in Newport and wanted some coffee near the water and so decided to consult Yelp. The nearest place with the best reviews to us was the Coffee Grinder and so we headed on over. This coffee shop is located on Bannisters Wharf and the shop itself is rather small and crowded with all of the baked goods that are available. Then they have some Adirondack chairs looking out over the water and a covered outdoor seating area as well. For my coffee on this morning I decided to go with a Medium Latte while my wife went with a small Americano. Then as a last minute addition we added on a scone because it looked good. The total damage with a tip was something like $18 which is crazy for two coffees and a scone. Yes you are paying for the location but sheesh. After my coffee had cooled down a bit I was able to try it and it was dark and rich. I heard someone ask if the owner if they still got their coffee from Italy and she confirmed that they did. Then the scone was also quite good although not terribly large for the $6 it cost. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my coffee and the scone were good but be prepared to pay a lot based upon the location. read more

I never leave reviews but my experience here was so super special. My husband and I were in town for the weekend and had a very early Sunday morning train (730 am). We stopped in Saturday afternoon to check their hours and when I asked the owner (a delightfully friendly woman whose name I didn't even get!!) she said 7 am. I said oh man okay nevermind and she asked me why. I told her about our train and she simply asked what time do you need coffee? I said at the latest 645. She let me show up at 640 am Sunday, tap on the window and get the freshest most needed cups of coffee for our train ride. Now that is customer service!!! read more

I knew that Newport is known for being expensive going into it but I had an awful experience here. There was only one barista working which I assume is the owner, but she made the experience even more frustrating for me especially after making my order first and then charging $18 for two medium iced lattes with regular milk before tip and tax. I thought the price was a mistake but was already frustrated with my experience in line. The lattes were watered down and was nothing special. I wanted to try a local coffee shop for the first time and it almost ruined my experience of being in Newport. I recommend this place if you want to waste your time and funds. read more

Maybe consider it our ignorance, but this place really is overpriced for not-that-great coffee. The "small" was the size of a free water cup at a refreshment stand, so I sized up to a medium. My medium iced coffee with a flavour shot, plus a medium iced flavoured latte & a normal-sized Pellegrino bottle came to $18 before tax. I understand that the menu looks aesthetic, but I STILL can't figure out how it came to $18 with flavour shots even if I charge for LARGES when we ordered MEDIUMS (or so we think!) For coffee that's just okay with nowhere to sit inside (when it was muggy with a sea breeze), I consider this too expensive.
