What makes a coffee shop a favorite? At the end of the day, it's the personal touch. I stopped by once and it was so busy I ended up leaving. The owner--who was clear at the other end of the place when I entered and quickly exited--reached out to me later, apologized and offered a drink on the house. I came back a week later and he comped me a drink even though I didn't bring it up! I also love the surroundings, the coffee, and a varied menu of Western sandwiches and Korean food! Staff is friendly. It's nice when I can walk in and they already know what I want to order. Good coffee. Not the BEST coffee, but better than anything else I've had in the area. I've had the cortado, coffee, and iced coffee. Good food. I can really only speak for the BLT on sourdough, as that's all I've eaten there, but it's well-made and inexpensive, and I've ordered it multiple times. Always a steady flow of loyal customers but always an available table near an available outlet. About 8 small tables indoors and 3 outdoors. Good free WiFi connection. Nice atmosphere. I'm only down in the area seasonally and I've enjoyed going to Coffee Nature and reading or using my laptop. Overall it's not just my favorite coffee shop in the neighborhood, but one of my favorite places in the neighborhood, period. Just tried this place for the first time this morning- the coffee is good and it looks to be a small family-owned coffeeshop, which I was happy to support over the bigger coffee chains. The coffee was definitely good and they have a variety of breakfast and lunch foods and sandwiches as well. They charged for each cup of coffee however, no refills. The atmosphere was cozy but could be cozier...still a good place if you want to go and get some work done with some coffee. The seats by the window are the best, the other tables are good too although its a small place so they are close together. Overall a good experience and I would call it a "neighborhood gem" probably even nicer in the summer when you can sit outside. read more

I've been coming here for a long time. I teach classes at the dance school up the block so this is a regular stop for me. It is one of several mom and pop stores in our own little slice of heaven. The food is pretty good and the atmosphere is very nice. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it is a little on the pricier side but considering where we are, I think it is acceptable. Surprised. I was just stopping in Rodmans around the corner but needed a little something in my stomach. Saw Coffee Nature. First, when I walked in it was quiet, the good kind with jazz and classical tunes playing in the background. Friendly staff super willing to meet all your needs. My initial plan was to get and go, but I felt so welcomed that I ordered in. I ordered the turkey bacon egg and cheese on a wheat bagel it was sooooo onpoint. Thick turkey bacon, buttery bagel, egg was perfectionary. FRESH! And made to order. Also had the French roast coffee. I felt do relaxed and full I could've hung out there for a few hours! A favorite of the students at the high school nearby (go Hoppers!). It's the only independent coffee shop (as far as I know) in the Tenleytown/AU Park/Friendship Heights area. With that in mind, coffee is pretty good, and the baristas are friendly and quite talented with latte art, if you're into that. It's pretty cozy, not a ton of seating. There's an interesting selection of sandwiches, pastries, and snacks, as well as a well-stocked refrigerator case with bottles juice and iced teas. For coffee, go for a latte (with flavoring if you're feeling fancy--I hear the Nutella one is to die for), or iced coffee. read more

Quaint little coffee shop in the Tenleytown/Chevy Chase area. The cappuccino art is super cute and the cappuccino itself was tasty. It is a cute and quaint cafe with delicious sandwiches. I would recommend it for a quick bite to eat. I had the gang nam chicken, and my coworkers had the steak bulgogi and the turkey blt and we had no complaints. I would only advise (since some people might get lunch from work), is to add prices to the menu online. Other than that, it is great. read more

Best cappuccino in DC. There is no rival. Owner Joseph is a man who cares about his coffee, He made a recent investment in better equipment and has mastered the art of coffee making. Never bitter. Never burnt. No sugar needed. Drink for the taste of the coffee. Always has great music playing. The food is good. The service is very polite. This is the best of artisan coffee and the best of local business. Miles ahead of "Charbucks". I go out of my way to get his coffee on the way to work. This is a very small, bare bones shop that other reviewers have unfairly criticized for its lack of decor. Its not fancy but so what? Their coffee is great and they have a surprising number of food options. I get a soy latte usually and there's always a lovely design in the foam, a nice touch for an early morning. I found this place through Yelp. I am always looking for good local coffee shops, especially ones that serve food as well. I went on a Saturday late morning / early afternoon and there was a bit of a crowd. There really isn't much room to sit - just a few small tables bunched close together in a small space. There was live music which I appreciate. Nice to hear local artists perform. I ordered a caffe mocha and a spinach, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on sourdough bread. The sandwich was ok. A lot of bread, very little filling. The mocha was very good! Not too sweet. I especially liked the little character that was drawn in the foam. If the space were a little less cramped, I would have liked this place a little better. I felt a little rushed to leave when I saw a big family come in eyeing our table. I would definitely come back for the coffee and I'm a little curious about their Gang Nam style rice bowl - which I hope doesn't turn out to be just regular bibimbap. read more

In some ways, this would be the perfect date place, not because it is romantic or something, but because you practically have to sit on someone else's lap. I judge coffee shops on how well I can write there. Since I'm essentially a non-published nobody, it was easy enough for me to write here. However, if I were a real author, I wouldn't even thing about it. Why? Well, I was at a table writing, and an older woman sat in the chair next to me--did I tell you we were as close as airplane seats--and started to knit. I have no idea if she was looking at my screen, but every time she turned her head it seemed as if she were. The strangest part is that for a place so small and cramped, it was eerily quiet. I mean, there was almost zero socializing going on. I say almost because a group of mothers with young kids came before they sat in the outside area. Friendly, helpful staff, good range of interesting menu offerings, and a relaxing, jazzy vibe all make me thankful for this rare little business in our often bland, Tenleytown hood. Ordered a latte. 30 seconds later and prior to drink being made I realized that the order was misheard (skim rather than whole milk) and let them know that I wanted a skim latte. They than rang me up for both lattes (I only ordered one) gave me the skim latter and then dumped out the first latte. So basically - I paid for 2 drinks and received one. I would have rather they charged for the one drink I ordered, or at least gave me the second drink that they made me pay for. The owner seemed disinterested in addressing the issue. I picked up free coupons for this shop that were at a local business this summer. I stopped by this summer to use the free doughnut coupon but at the time was told that I they had already put them away. I came back recently when I was in the area and had brought my coupon, as there was no expiration date on it, but when I tried to use it was told that they don't honor them anymore and that the coupons were from months ago. It was a bit embarassing to be told that, and bc there was no expiration date they should have honored their own coupons bc they hadn't expired. If they are no longer passing out the coupons then there can't be that many people bringing them in. I thought it was poor customer service when they wouldn't honor their own promotion. As someone who moved from the bay area - the land of local coffee shops, I have struggled to find quaint and cute coffee shops in my neighborhood. I was sick of seeing Starbucks at every corner, which was always over loaded by people. Then I discovered Coffee Nature after having lived here for almost a year. I am so glad I can come to this place to escape my little townhouse. I am now studying here for finals mid-day in the middle of the week and there are only TWO other persons who are also working. The music is classic, and great. Their drink and food selection is vast from coffee to smoothies. I was very surprised they also offered breakfast, and lunch sandwiches. I am excited to try their different variety of coffees, teas, smoothies, and sandwiches. They have done a great job at taking my money. There is also FREE wi-fi, and the environment is just lovely.
