There are certain things on the menu that are great, but let's be real, it's on a college campus. The upside is that it's a good hang here at night, especially when there's music happening. I've had many salads on the menu, but I love the Tropicana salad with jicama, mango, and avocado. It's really good with crispy tofu on the side. The Athenian is also a good salad, although they give you wayyy too much goat cheese (maybe ask for less?). Adding salmon to this one is a great choice! Also be sure to ask for the dressing on the side, as sometimes the salads are over dressed. Another note --- the salads are huge, so come hungry or just expect to share or maybe take some home! I also have enjoyed the egg salad sandwich, but on wheat toast instead of sourdough. The dark chocolate salted cookies are too die for, so gooey and perfectly baked, but again, too much for one person! The coffee here is average, as are the prices. read more

I came here on Saturday for lunch since we were attending a baptism class at the church. Upon entering, you order first, then find a seat and pick your order up at the counter when it's ready. I noticed a lot of different options: salads, soups, risotto, pasta, baked goods, coffee and tea. I decided on ordering the "Massive Shroom" sandwich which came with a grilled portobello mushroom, eggplant, cheese, onion and spinach all on a lightly grilled hamburger bun. The meal also came with a side salad of various greens with a vinaigrette dressing. The sandwich had SO much flavor even without any meat. The fact that everything was lightly grilled added a nice charred flavor which complimented the freshness of the vegetables really well. Although the meal was a good size and very satisfying it still felt light and healthy which I really appreciated. The restaurant itself is very casual with a lot of wooden tables. It was a bit of a struggle finding seating since we had a stroller and there wasn't a lot of space to move around. I liked how it wasn't too loud which was probably due to a bunch of students studying inside. I'd highly recommend this place for lunch if you're on campus. The only reason I go to this place is because it's on campus, and every time I'm extremely disappointed. The service just plain sucks and it doesn't ever seem like they care about the food they're selling to people. Plus, the food isn't all that great. Just this morning I ordered half a breakfast sandwich. The cashier was rude when taking my order, put the sandwich on the Panini grill haphazardly, and left it there for way too long. I was standing there and watched the guy laugh at it being stuck to the top of the grill, and still gave it to me! Almost all of the spinach was stuck to the grill. Coho is my favorite place to go to on-campus and the competition is fierce because Stanford really has some great places on-campus. The thing that separates COHO however is that it truly feels like a welcoming environment! They have soft jazz nights and chill music playing in the background and couches that make you feel comfortable through grueling hours of studying! The staff is so kind too! I remember once I was short 25 cents for an ube donut, and the COHO employee covered it for me! Coho has gotten me through some of my toughest days here! Their mochas are DELICIOUS and so are their donuts... also their salads! Also their agua de jamaica... I could go on!! I love coho! read more

These stars are for the beer and wine. When evening falls at Stanford and the lights come up, CoHo goes from lunch spot and afternoon coffee house to become a jazzy place. The beers on tap are all nice (Sierra Nevada is mandatory, but I also saw Fat Tire and other decent selections from which to choose), the Spanish white wines (like the Verdejo/Sav Blanc blend) were good for $5 and came in a topped-off plastic glass. Generous pours, almost enough to forgive the cheap, landfill-clogging, bay-polluting, Pacific trash vortex-filling plastics that they came in. Even when crowded, the CoHo allowed us to sit and talk w/out shouting. And if we had stayed for the live music, I would have reused my beer glass more than twice! Walked in due to the sign out front advertising gluten free - figured: "yippee I can eat something here!" For a school coffeeshop/cafe options abound but service is very slow. Also, staff was a bit unclear as to whether other ingredients were or were not gluten-free. Not a ringing endorsement for those of us who need to be cautious with our diets. 4 bean vegetarian chili with quinoa was a complete rip-off for the price (I think it was 1 cup for $8) but it did have really great flavor. 4 stars for flavor and food options, 2 stars for service = 3 star average. ;-) read more

I don't really know why I would come here over Tresidder if Tresidder's Union Square is open. Coho only serves pastries, sandwiches, and salads, all of which are more expensive than their counterparts. I had the pear & goat cheese salad with added chicken, and the taste was so muted and quantity so small compared to a salad from Twisted Sprout in Tresidder. Yet it was nearly $2 more. That being said, Coho has a nice atmosphere. I just wish it was more like the old one with its yummy crepes. read more

Oh, the CoHo. I had such high expectations for your return. Perhaps too high. When I was a prospective college senior, I had heard about the legendary CoHo. Even stopped by a few times during recruiting trips. I was excited for us to be friends. Then I got to Stanford as a freshman and they shut you down. I was sad. As was the rest of the campus. We petitioned, made a Facebook group, and got you back. Alas, you weren't completely what I expected. Coffee is good, not great. One of my biggest beefs is that to make the iced coffee they pour already watery hot coffee over ice. Elementary coffee mistake guys. Brew that ish cold. Coffee is just not that fresh and flavorful in general though. Food is ok, I've had some decent items. Nothing mind-blowing and I'd just as soon go to Subway in Tressider and bring it in. What I do love about the CoHo is the atmosphere. It's a really fun, relaxing place to hang out or write a paper. Comfortable couches, mellow music and people constantly trailing in and out (people watching) add to the ambiance. But they really need to do something about the coffee and iced coffee. Otherwise there will continue to be people like me who go to Coupa, get their coffee there, and then come over to the CoHo and take up precious couch space. read more

A group of colleagues asked me to go to "Stanford" for lunch. I'm like "Where in Stanford?" but they didn't remember the name so I went here blindly.. Killed me not to be able to Yelp it and see what I was getting myself into but it worked out in the end! Parking is $1 for the first 30 mins. I think. Walking in, it was HOT and stuffy-- I was not happy about that but we chose a table outside so that was good. I was recommended the Dixie and the Clubhouse. I chose the Dixie (pulled pork, BBQ sauce and a side of sweet potato fries) which was $7.95. The wait for orders took a long time but it was pretty busy. When I opened my to-go box, I was shocked at how huge the portion was!!! There was a mountain of sweet potato fries. The pulled pork was good, not dry at all. I just wish there was more BBQ sauce! Glad I took the leap of faith and came here. I hear their paninis and pastas are pretty good too. read more

They probably made me the worst garden salad I've ever had. For around 8 bucks, all I got was a poorly made side salad. The ham and cheese both come in cubes. Whoever designed this ish needs to go on Bottom Chef. To end on a nice note, I will say that this place looks much cooler in its current incarnation. This place is a staple on Stanford campus, for better or for worse. Coffee is generally weak, but the pastries are really good and the food is OK overall. Get the Monkey Bread when there's a good dose of caramel on top and have them warm it up in the oven vs microwave. The veggie chili with quinoa is good, although they reheat the quinoa in a plastic bag in the microwave. BEWARE: Kitchen ventilation is NOT adequate so you'll smell like COHO when you leave. The revamp of this place has made me forget that it was closed for a good year or two during my college career. The pastries are superb (if I remember correctly, they're now delivered from Satura cakes) and one of the many great Coho coupons in Stanford's Unofficial Guide can score you a free one. The mood is generally chill; I've spent hours here with my laptop and a nice chai, although there are those nights that feature some of the noisier campus bands. I have one great standby here: the tomato-mozzarella panini with basil. It's always grilled just right and presented with a side of fresh greens. The other vegetarian options (pear and goat cheese salad, the Coho salad) are ok too, but none of them really compare to having the tomato-mozzarella panini for a light lunch. read more

i so wish i could give them more stars but i am just so frustrated with COHO. allow me to begin with customer service. While Nelly, one other girl who looks like she could be related to nelly, and the guys who work there are super warm and friendly, the rest of the staff are soo rude. the simple task of taking your order seems like an incredible inconvenience. God forbid you have to ask any questions, the roll of the eyes and a huge disgusted sigh says it all. i'm sorry, have i interrupted you? customer service, ladies! this is the line of work you are in. don't like it ? time to move on. otherwise a simple smile will not kill you. food is good. although i haven't tried everything on the menu, what i have ordered was good. But plan to wait forever to get your food. even the simplest order. not sure how orders 10 numbers after mine and more complicated manage to come out quicker but it happens practically EVERYTIME!!! so frustrating. i stand there and at some point end up giving someone the evil eye. it has been suggested that i order online for pick up but what i usually order is not an option online. i hope the manager reads these reviews because they are key points in good customer service. read more

I am Stanford staff, have been here 4-5 times, and each time this place is simply mediocre. They wouldn't last a year if they weren't on Stanford campus, in the heart of Tressider. Basically, their service is beyond lousy. They look like a confused mess behind the counter, and each time I've been there, I've had a service issue come up. This morning, I asked for a breakfast sandwich on a croissant, and the trainee behind the register, Chantell, who CLEARLY wants to take wonderful care of her customers, didn't know how to ring it up (apparently it's not on the menu, so there is something different you have to do on the register to "create" the order). The person she asked was an absolute rag. The FIRST words out of her mouth were "we can't do that." Um...WHY? You walk in to see STACKS of croissants on a plate behind a glass partition, so you HAVE croissants. You make breakfast sandwiches. Think this through. This "trainer" seems to resent the fact that she is actually there to serve other people. She seems to get satisfaction out of turning a customer down. Go get another job that is NOWHERE near customer service, because you SUCK at it. Too bad I didn't get her name too, but I'd rather give newbie Chantell props for wanting to please the customer (this is a trait you can't teach people...it's just human kindness and courtesy, obviously lacking in the "trainer"). My hope is that nasty attitude girl doesn't rub off on newbie Chantell, who was great. Again, each time I have been there, the food is mediocre at best. Nothing at all special about this place, other than the bustling, heart-of-the-campus location it's in. You simply lucked into a fantastic location. To the manager: Work on the customer service, rethink the operations that create chaos behind the counter, and make your food a little more tasty. Your YELP reviews will reflect your efforts, and you will be a manager other restaurants will covet (translation: this will improve your reputation in the food and beverage business and increase your hire-ability=more money, better career options, higher standard of living for you and your family). read more

And the service was excruciatingly slow-- maybe 15-20 minutes, after ordering, for my salad to be made? First time here and ordered the portabello mushroom wrap. The mushrooms were nicely seasoned and overall taste of the wrap pretty good. For $6 (inc tax) its a bit pricey for the portions you get. Went to a wedding at the Memorial Church on campus and was starving so i was taken to CoHo, the little coffee shop behind the row of fast food food court area. As I was passing by the food court, i was very close to just saying that i was too hungry and that i'll just get something small at the panda express - thankfully i did not because the panini at coho was delicious! unfortunately, their website hasnt been updated with their latest menu, but i got one that had pastrami, pepper jack cheese, and caramelized onion. It was so good i couldnt didnt swallow before i took another bite. i just wanted the taste in my mouth. The pastrami they used was fatty, kinda like bacon and made it extremely more flavourful. I was, on the other hand, less impressed with the coffee. I asked for the cafe au lait with a shot of vanilla syrup and they gave me hot milk with syrup in there and told me to go to the coffee dispenser to fill the rest. The coffee wasnt good at all and i barely drank half of it. Overall, i still giver it four stars. The panini was THAT good. read more

3.5 Not quite four, but I like CoHo, but really for the food and chill vibe. I get it, it's always hot in there and they need to do something about their ventilation. But they have great food and a decent selection of beer and wine. They have a great selection of salads, sandwiches and a few pastas. My fav salad is the edamame salad, it's a large portion and the dressing is nice and light. I've also had the caprese sandwich which is tasty (but I would think this would be hard to fail). The pastas are decent. There's ample seating but usually it's filled with students who take an entire table for four (Just saying, I used to do that too as a student..). You can also sit outside. Service is usually busy and can get disorganized. In any case, this is a good option for food at Stanford especially for good and large portion salads. read more

I remember Stanford before there was CoHo. The only place for beer was the Treehouse (their beer often tastes old) and the were few late night options. No live music. Terrible on-campus catering. It was like Stanford wasn't a real college or something. It may be difficult to find a spot to sit at the CoHo, and the food might not be michelin rated, but is SURE better than the Treehouse! And, lots of events on campus get sandwiches and salads catered from here. They tend to be delicious, and seem healthier than a pile of catered Chinese/Mexican/Italian food. I like Stanford more because the CoHo exists. read more

Visiting the Stanford campus, we ran across this little restaurant/cafe. It reminde me of a hip version of a panera crossed with Starbucks, with a slightly better menu and more comfy seating. There was also a piano in the corner that patrons took turns playing for other diners pleasure. It had a real community feel to it. All of our food was moderately priced to a little pricy, but very good. We had one unique pasta dish, one sandwich and one hummus plate in our group, all were done equally well. Coffee was fantastic and desert pastries were good enough to compete with a bakery vs a cafe. If I were a student here, this would be my hangout. read more
