Before I dive into the review, you need to know the back story. I've been trying to grow my hair out for sometime now, but have had several setbacks, including getting Ombre done earlier this year, which killed the bottom half of my hair. I've known for a while that I need to go in and get rid of the dead hair and also to fix some dead hairs where I fried off my bangs. I finally decided to get down to business and take care of the mess. I live in the area and looked up on Yelp where to head to. After reading reviewing about this place I made a day-of apt to see Mone. Long story short - he was amazing. He not only took off the dead hair, but didn't go over the top either. He also texturized it so that it not only complimented my rounder face shape, but also got rid of more dead hair. He also fixed bangs, giving me a side part that I can wear both to the left and to the right - depending for the look I want to go with. The salon is small, but not overwhelming with people. The staff is extremely pleasant and the music kicks butt. They really take the whole French theme to another level with French only magazines and even a coffee bar situation. The salon is also highly affordable, unlike most fu fu salons in SoHo and other areas of Manhattan. I will absolutely be back! read more

I got a haircut with Claire and couldn't be happier. The receptionist was really helpful when I called-I haven't gotten a haircut in few months and she helped me find the right stylist. The salon was super clean, they had air purifiers and I saw every stylist wearing masks and sanitizing. I have coarse thick hair and it's never this soft! Damon works his magic again!! The man is the hair whisperer I swear. I asked for a trim off my ends and some subtle layers and that's exactly what I got. I wanted longer layers throughout my hair as it's curly and I did not want it poofing out but at the same time, wanted to get rid of my dead ends from when I dyed/bleached my hair countless of times; he definitely delivered. He took his time cutting 360 degrees with such precision--and his blow dry is amazing. He is an artist. Never have I gone to the same hair dresser twice, but I have gone to him and plan on going again in the future. I needed to update my already stellar review to emphasize how GREAT he is at his job. I've been a customer at coiffeur for over 2 years now and having tried a couple of stylists (one gave me the worst cut I've ever had,and one didn't do a great job of the colour), I have finally found Nanae who cuts my hair amazingly and just did my colour for the first time and I'm very happy I would highly recommend the salon and particularly Nanae. I am not very trusting with hairdressers but have always been very happy with Nanae and will continue to come back! So far in my 22 years of life, I've had 2 hair cuts that I would deem perfection. Once was in London and another was in Chicago. Both had cost upwards of $150. At a fraction of that price, I walked away with a perfect haircut from Coiffeur! That would bring my total up to 3! When I first walked in, Motoyo was super kind and took my coat and washed my hair. My ends were kinda in bad shape and I wanted to bring life to my heavy & wavy hair. When I walked out, I felt like I was in a hair commercial! My hair was super soft, had insane movement, and was as glossy as a brand new car. Not to mention it smells kinda amazing. Normally I don't really stay faithful to one salon, I keep about 2-3 on rotation because I always find something to nit-pick on. But, Coiffeur will be my go to from now on. Not only is the price super reasonable by high-end standards, the place is very chic and clean. They offered me something to drink, and just had really really great service. Would give 3.5 stars if I could. This is just your bare bones kind of salon. No massage with shampoo, no wi-fi, no wine. Everyone is nice but most staff don't speak English as a first language which has caused me a couple of issues explaining what I want done. I keep coming back due to lack of choice in the neighborhood. End result is ok. Guys seem to like coming here more than the girls. In case you are wondering.. they do have a textured hair specialist! Just ask for KONAKO Im not going to go into details other than KONAKO was beyond amazing!!! I am transitioning my hair from relaxed to natural and I have been having a hard time finding a professional who could deal with my hair. I brought her a picture of the cut and ombre highlights i wanted and she exceeded my expectations.. she was fun and friendly and awesome.. what more can i say.. can't wait to go back. Though I have my favorites (Stephane for cut and Junko for color), I have worked with a few other stylists in the salon over the past two years (Cressa, Ryan, Daniel, Nick, Audrey...), and all my experiences have been extremely satisfying. I have found them to be attentive, listening well to what I want, as well as talented and up to date with trends... they share with me their suggestions until we reach a look that sounds good for the day. Atmosphere is warm and friendly, all staff genuinely fun and caring... espressos and coffee all the time, with occasional delicious treats - financiers and madeleines, and wonderful head massages with the shampoo and conditioning. It's a busy salon, perhaps because they are so few in the neighborhood. Starting with the receptionist who looks Indian, rude! Always rude, never friendly - via phone or in person. Since visiting in 2005, this has been my regular shop! I love Tatsua and really all of the hairstylists there. For a men's haircut, the cost is about 55 dollars, and you get a wonderful shampoo/head massage. These folks are highly professional, and they take great care of my curly hair. I visited Coiffeur two days ago for a cut with Daniel. I have kind of fine/ thinner hair... and when I get it cut I'm used to feeling disappointment. Granted, if you don't love your hair, you can't go to a salon and have someone give you a haircut to make it all better. On the other hand, when you have hair that's not already fabulous, it takes skill on the part of the stylist to make it look great. When I'm happy with my haircuts, I know the stylist is skilled. Daniel has that skill--I had been growing out my hair but hating it. I was ready to chop it all off and go for a bob (my go-to). Daniel convinced me to go mid-length with layers. I'm not sure what the technical term "layers" means to trained hair-people, but my hair has been a showcase for a number of different hairstylists' personal understanding of that term.. and not all of them good. So, I was skeptical. But, Daniel offered to give me the mid-length cut, and then if i was unhappy with it, he would cut it however i wanted free of charge. I don't need to go back for the free fix! I love what Daniel did with my hair. It's a really cute mid-length cut for my fine/ thinner hair. The cut was $65 plus tip, which is totally reasonable for a solid cut. Daniel also did a blow-out so I left the salon feeling good and looking awesome. I moved to NY recently, and I have been looking for a stable relationship with a hairstylist who is cool and can give me 100% satisfaction in my cuts. I will definitely be going back to Daniel for round two. Highly recommended. read more

This is the first review ive written but honestly everyone needs to know about this amazing salon!! I recently moved to NYC and im super picky about my hair. I did some research online and decided to give this place a try based on their awesome reviews. I called to make a same day appt and they were extremely accommodating and got me in within the hour. The place is cozy, cute and clean and the staff is so friendly. They offered me coffee right when i sat down and i had literally the BEST shampoo ive ever had in my life, she almost put me to sleep!! Tatsuya was my stylist and he was incredible. In the past i have been hesitant about a male cutting my hair, but i got a great feeling right when i first met him and i knew he would do a great job with my hair. My hair was super dead at the ends, so we agreed to clean it up and add some layers and a side swept bang. Tatsuya is a perfectionist. He is SO meticulous and spent so much time with me making sure my hair was exactly what i wanted. On top of that, i got an amazing blow out. 85$ plus tip, well worth it. would have paid more to be honest. Stephan did an amazing, detailed job. I had been getting my hair cut at a local barber ($20, including tip), so I questioned whether $60 could really be THAT much better. Stephan made it better. Not only did he take his time, despite it being a last minute appointment, but he completely redid the side lengths after deciding it would look better. I had high hopes about this place from friends that had good experiences, but was very disappointed from my own experience. The general pacing feels rushed, overwhelming, and a bit unorganized. They have quite good customer service ethics, but that does not make up for the poor communication. Kanako was the one who took care of my hair, and she did a fantastic job; it was honestly one of the best haircuts I have had in years. But perhaps more important is the fact that she made the whole experience as enjoyable as possibe - she was friendly, outgoing, and generally very kind. AMAZING stylists! I stumbled upon this place because I needed a quick haircut and it was close to my job. I like to wear my hair in a long bob and I never get the cut that I want when I go to salons. I went here and the girl who did my hair- French girl- kept interrupting to talk to people, unpack items and joke around with coworkers. That day, it was extremely hot and they had no air with hairdryers going at full speed to make it like a sweltering jungle. At the end, since she wasted so much time doing everything but my hair, I told her forget the cut. She's like no, I can do quickly. Had me stand up, and cut straight across. My mom could've done a better job. The best part, she charged close to $100 for just that (in addition to the other service). I spent almost an hour explaining, telling where and how much of hair to cut and finally the result was not satisfied because I'm not a professional stylist, they are, so the haircut was inaccurate and they are charging $100 per hour.
