Really cool inside with a pretty good amount of seating. Parking can be a bit of a challenge as it's right next to the boat launch. We decided to try out American Brew one weekend when planned to walk the beach. It was a great little coffee shop but parking was a little difficult for us because we had my husband's big truck and it's a small lot. Over all it was pretty good and we will be back if we are in the area again. My drink was an iced mocha (my go to!) and my husband got a cold brew with cold foam. The cold foam didn't hold up well but the taste was great! I didn't realize all the food that was available until we got there. I'm not sure what gluten free options they have but I will check that out again. He did get a muffin but it wasn't the best, and he did not finish it. Over all for the location we will likely be back because I do love that it is right by the Lesner bridge where we like to walk. read more

Literally ran into American Brew as the thunderstorm poured rain all over us. It was a nice spot to wait for the rain to go away along with ok drinks and somewhere to sit down. Parking is limited and must be paid. The drinks were very mediocre. Matcha very weak and too milky. Cold brew with almond milk barely drinkable. Maybe we ordered the wrong drinks. I don't know. I had no idea this place was here and the only thing I am upset about is that I did not know about it earlier. It has a cool vibe, casual and fun. Parking is tight during peak hours. It has food, coffee and drinks. Lunch and breakfast. I had no idea. Cool wood tables a community table and cool seating nooks and a bar. Merch for sale. You order, pay and sit. They call your name, you grab your food and drinks and sit and enjoy. Clean up after yourself. We ordered a chicken melt and I got a cold brew coffee. We were splitting a sandwich and they even put it on 2 plates for us and we each got a pickle. The sandwich was so good with fresh ingredients. The rosemary bread was delicious but not strong enough to hold the ingredients so I ended up eating it with a fork. I have already told friends about this place and I will be back. My wife and I were driving by and decided to stop at American Brew, and we're glad we did. The inside is very nice and cozy, with a welcoming vibe that makes it a great spot to relax. They offer a monthly drink menu in addition to their regular coffee options, plus some fun adult coffee drinks. Their food menu also has a good mix of breakfast and lunch choices. We tried the iced vanilla latte and the iced PB&J latte--both were excellent. For food, we shared the steak and cheese breakfast burrito, which was amazing. The thinly sliced steak really made it stand out. Overall, a great find with tasty drinks, delicious food, and a comfortable atmosphere. We'll definitely be back. read more

I planned to order a 20oz latte to enjoy in a mug, but the barista let me know they only serve up to 16oz for drinks "for here," so I went with that. When my drink was ready, it came in a paper to-go cup instead. I mentioned that I'd asked for a mug, so she poured it with a tude from the cup into one -- which wasn't ideal since the coffee had already touched the paper surface and probably made it loose a little heat. The froth and layers didn't hold up as well after being poured, which was a little disappointing. That said, the coffee itself tasted good, the café had a nice, lively atmosphere, and the prices were fair. It's a cold day and it's a bit chilly in here - we still have our coats on. I just wish the dine-in option had been handled a bit more carefully. What would've been nice is to offer to remake it in a mug (I should have insisted on this). read more

Most people who have a favorite standard drink will find it on offer here, plus a few specialty variants. The food is workaday - nothing came out especially great or not. If it says sausage, eggs, and greens that is what you will get - nothing more in spices or extras and nothing less. If there's a downside for me it's an upside for others. To explain, when I've visited people have taken the four top tables, pulled out their books and bags and laptops and set up shop. They have all the space to study or work for hours. Given limited seatings that can mean a table of four has nowhere to sit. Just something to be aware of if you're a group. I will say that their mixed drinks are quite good. So, if you want a casual place for a snack or two and some drinks, definitely worth a try. read more

Gave this cafe a try since it was walking distance from the beach. It was a little overwhelming upon first entering due to the music being loud and there was lots to see & I wasn't quite sure where to order at first. There's plenty of seating indoors & a wonderful outdoor seating area. We ordered an Açaí Bowl & a Green Goddess smoothie with a side of Fresh seasonal fruit. The Açaí bowl had fresh and sweet fruit with a perfect combo of each fruit and the right amount of granola. The smoothie portion was tasty and went well with all the fruit. I'll definitely order this one again. As for the Green Goddess smoothie, I wouldn't order again. It wasn't terrible, just lacked any real flavor beyond chalky green flavor. We took a few sips & wrote that one off. The Fresh Seasonal fruit side was perfect and exactly what our beach day needed. Can't wait to come back & try more of the menu and experience dining in. The atmosphere was cute and cozy. Loved that there is outside seating and the indoors was lovely. The food however was not great. My friends breakfast burrito was stone cold on the inside but warm on the outside. Like when you microwave something but the heat doesn't hit the middle. The waffles would have been decent if it were not for the tooth shattering lemon sugar crystals throughout the batter. Bacon was forgotten twice but I guess that's ok, it was just a side. But the cocoa was a huge disappointment. It was like warm milk with a whisper of burnt cocoa powder. Overall not my favorite but it was cute. read more

The loveliest barista works there. Impo, there is nothing better in the morning than a barista who is not only friendly and kind but talks to you like you are more than a mere customer. There is a great cappuccino there... not sure if they still serve food, but the last time I had an avocado toast with egg - it was delicious. There is great ambiance there... sitting at the bar is what I typically do, and that is one of the best parts of this coffee shop. Many coffee shops do not have much of a bar, if they have one at all. I am trying to keep myself from going every day, but that's a difficult thing to do. **This place will become my go-to for a morning pick-me-up, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit! I really tried to like this place. The first time I went I got the chicken bowl, it ended up having a sad amount of little shreds of chicken , and the entire bowl was just greasy potatoes, I even asked for extra chicken in the side and they gave me a cup of oil. I was so sick later that day. The second time I went I tried the BEC, allergic to eggs I asked for double sausage to replace the eggs, they did not fulfill this request. Just 3 sausages and cheese. The third time I went I tried to order the BEC again, because my friends love the place, same thing double sausage, again, they would not fulfill my request. I even told them it was on if they charged me more for double sausage but still, 3 links. I don't understand why people rave about it. The food is greasy, my husband got the breakfast burrito and the sausage was at the bottom, there is nothing coherent or consistent about their food, other than the fact it is extremely greasy and sub par every single time. I really tried to like this place. I even tried the muffins, when turned out to be corn bread topped with blueberries or chocolate, they aren't made in house, and the chocolate is only on top, the rest of the muffin is just a corn meal muffin. I really tried to like this place, I was disappointed every single time. Would not recommend any of their items. So sad because it would be convenient. Their staff clearly doesn't care about the food quality, I mean giving someone two bowls of grease and less than two spoonfuls of chicken is almost criminal. 0 stars if I could. read more

I got an iced coffee and it was good, and reasonably priced. One of the better iced coffees I've had in the area. The atmosphere was confusing. Like trying to be western but also patriotic and there were pirate flags? Not my vibe but still a nice place. Be aware that their private parking lot is very small. Most of the parking you can see on Google Maps is paid parking by the city of Virginia Beach. I had to park across the parking lot from the restaurant so I could access the meter. It's not the restaurants fault but something to be aware of if you visit. read more

Thanks to the coastal coffee trail. We are trying another new coffee shop. This building has been the home of many things. We thought it had turned into a brewery. Totally did not know it is coffee too. So as soon as I told my friends we wanted to visit. It is awesome!!! They are way more than just your run of the mill coffee shop. They have a really good cocktail, beer, mimosas, tea, smoothie and coffee menu. Oh, but it does NOT stop there. They have wonderful food too. My friend and I thought we were just going for coffee but the food menu looked so good that we split THE BREWWITO. Yumm!! Lots of flavor. Filled to the brim . And they made it look so pretty. BTW all of the staff super friendly. You go up and order but just the beautiful smiles and sweet friendly nature is my favorite. They have real plates. A few places I have been to recently have to go containers or paper. This place is classy. Thank you so much for having real plates. I love the inside. From the gorgeous natural stained wood to the fun funky lighting. And both my friend and I got the giggles when we went to the ladies room and the table in there said "Get Naked". I don't usually take pictures in the bathroom but that was so funny I had to take a quick picture. That means they have a great since of humor too. The outside is really nice too. We were there during the day but I bet the twinkly lights are really pretty when they are lit. The photo op on the corner of the building I am sure is a favorite for everyone. It is a set of wings. The indoor space was adequate and outdoors had some picnic tables for seating, ideal for the warmer months. Live music made for a relaxed ambience, whereas the casual order-at-the-counter style service created a laid back vibe. Perfect for a brunch or study spot. The coffee varieties and menu were extensive, and included seasonal flavors. Unfortunately the iced cold brew was extremely bitter and watered down, and the oat milk sour. I love this coffee shop! This place is located on Shore Drive, only a mile from my place. The staff is always friendly, and the atmosphere is very chill and pleasant. I love the rustic decor and the music selection is perfect. I typically get a latte of some sort, hazelnut being my favorite. They always have a few seasonal drinks featured and every one I've tried has been great. My go to breakfast item is the Morning Hash. It's a combo of eggs, bacon, avocado, potatoes and salsa. This is definitely a great hangout spot on the weekends. It was definitely busy on the Saturday morning that I went but still had a really good atmosphere. There was live music playing, which was not expected, but it didn't take too much away from being there. I ordered the sweet potato hash and a blueberry muffin along with a latte. The latte was pretty great with good flavor, the blueberry muffin was really good. I don't know if they made the muffin themselves or bought from a location, but you can tell that it was good quality. The way it was long and it was busy so I took the sweet potato hash home. It came with scrambled eggs, even though it was definitely more of an omelette style, the sweet potatoes were soft, but only kind of warm. Due to the fact that I took it back to my hotel room, I'm sure that was the case. The spinach seemed to not be cooked, but if that is how the dishes supposed to be served, then sure it was fine, I just found it odd that they were just throw spinach in there and only cook maybe like six of the leaves out of the rest. You can definitely see in the photo. I will definitely have to go back, maybe during a slower time or earlier in the morning so there's less people. read more

Ate there for first and last time yesterday. Pleasant staff and atmosphere. Took order promptly but incorrectly. I ordered pancakes , bacon and soft scrambled eggs. I was served over easy eggs which were tasty and bacon that was limp and still greasy but tasty. Went here for the first time a few weeks ago with some friends and really enjoyed it! Have already recommended to some people. We ordered one of their smoothies (the peanut butter one), a matcha latte with vanilla and a cappuccino. All were delicious! The espresso in the cappuccino was perfect and it was so frothy. The smoothie was filling and had the perfect amount of peanut butter. It was gone too soon . Everyone was friendly and I'll definitely be back to try their food. So excited to try a new coffee shop (to us) in the area! We've passed by it before and thought it was a brewery, lol! Okay parking situation: SMALL. We ended up parking in the lot right beside the shop that definitely had tow signs (it's for a nearby boat launch I believe). We decided to try our luck since we were taking our coffees to-go and it ended up being fine. Maybe don't try parking there during the touristy season! This coffee shop was BUMPING. Like line out the door on a Saturday morning. The shop itself is so cute and they had live music! Vibes were immaculate. There is plenty of seating both inside and out. As we got towards the front, one of the baristas ended up pulling us aside and taking our order to help the line go more quickly. I know she was stressed/busy, but overall she was not very pleasant. We ended up getting the special, a strawberry shortcake latte, and an iced coffee. I really wish they offered larger sizes! The shortcake latte was okay-- I liked the thought of it, but the execution was a little unappetizing with coffee-logged cake mush at the bottom. I wish it was a flavored syrup instead! My husband liked his iced coffee. We also got two Brew B.E.C.s, one with bacon and one with sausage. Now THESE were delicious! First of all they were pipping hot and the cheese was so gooey and overall just really tasty. I'm sure we will be back next time we're on Shore Drive for breakfast.
