So my family went for a quick bite to Colbeh in Great Neck. We ordered lamb kabob and was served what was clearly beef. The server swore this was their lamb. It just horrible to be lied to especially when you have to pay double since it's Passover. They didn't even give us the option to take it off the bill. Basically convinced us to order something else instead and charged us even more instead of just leaving the price of the "lamb". Just be mindful and make sure you get what you pay for and More importantly ask for. More over we originally ordered a green salad and Greek eggplant salad. The waiter comes back with the green salad and "Spanish" eggplant and says oh we're out of Greek eggplant and I brought you Spanish eggplant instead. Who does that? If your out of something you come over inform us and let us decide if we want to order something instead don't just assume and bring it to us and charge us for it. We generally eat at this resteraunt inside with the amazing service, and the calm, relaxed atmosphere, because of COVID19 we drove from Lawrence to great neck to pick up the most delicious beef kebab you ever tasted in your whole life. Listen, if you dont care about keeping kosher, go to Ravagh in roslyn. Way better and less expensive. Rita Salles: 4 1/2 stars. A memorable night. Colbeh is a kosher Iranian restaurant( so you know it's a clean kitchen ). The patrons are quiet, and the decor of massive crystal chandeliers , attractive. The waitress was very friendly , and helpful in advising us which dishes to choose. She was also a Ursula Andress look-alike( first James Bond girl), which certainly enhanced the evening. We started with  tasty hors d'oeuvre ( on the house), of fresh pancake oat bread, served with a delicious  cream of eggplant, humus, and Middle Eastern cornichons( a nice diversion from dill pickles). My husband had fresh bass , de-boned, and cut in small pieces , with a delicious buttery sauce. I had eggplant /veal, that tasted good, but was drowning in a lukewarm  tomato sauce, with a piece of  lone eggplant floating disconsolately. The side dish  however, was delicious:lentils on  a bed of white rice, fried at the bottom , and crusty( so watch your crowns and implants). This is apparently a characteristic Iranian  cooking technique for their rice dishes. The crowning glory of the evening was a dessert of chocolate soufflé , light , fluffy, with a scalding hot  chocolate sauce , that  gave us an unexpectedly massive , pleasing rush , of dark chocolate flavor. The bill was reasonable: $93, with taxes, tip and Merlot. A truly memorable end, to a fine dinner. read more

They have always provided a beautiful and delicious spread, linens, high quality plastic ware, servers, etc. When Colbeh does my catering I don't worry that we'll run out of food or that it won't be delicious and visually appealing. Most recently, Pejman and his team at Colbeh catered a 30 person Shabbat dinner for my son's Bar Mitzvah. It's been months since I've eaten here, and generally I just don't like reviewing places I don't like... because I hate delivering the bad news. I was here for an event, and the food was just all sorts of confusing. It was kinda Persian, Israeli, with a tad touch of Eastern Mediterranean, American, Italian, and a bunch of other cultures thrown in. I'm not sure if it was because it was a big catered party, but the food was just subpar. Many of dishes lacked flavoring, and the dipping into multiple cuisines just had me confused. +1 for amazing waitstaff, and constant attention. +1 for continuous open bar, that probably made the food taste better than it was. The beef kebab was just ok and the yellow rice with orange zest is my only favorite item in this place.... I am not fond of the service at all or the various waiters that come to my table picking up plates and utencils. I have been there very few times but this last time the chicken on the bone my husband ordered tasted old and he felt sick later on at home after we left. My mother ordered chicken kebab w vegetables, the vegetables were grilled onion and green peppers thats it and a ton of mint leaves not sure if that was suppose to be a edible item not sure if thats the best type of vegetables to compliment the chicken, we were looking along the lines of broccoli some carrots and maybe some string beans. We asked the waiter after 10 minutes of waiting to see one that could actually help us because the clean up waiters dont speak much english they dont know anything else but cleaning up. The waiter we asked said they dont have those type of vegetables only pickled items..ended up ordering a mixed salad instead of the rice that usually comes with the plate. And yes the amount of food on a plate is enormous they can feed two or three people. My husband is jewish and has refused to return to this restaurant because he was very displeased with the food and the service. My son is 21 months old who still wears diapers, I was forced to change him on the bathroom counter on top of the sink.. this was very unsanitary and not to mention uncomfortable....this bathroom is not equippied with a baby changer no idea why. As many people may know jewish families always have 3 or 4 children +++ and a majority are in diapers still, this is a family style restaurant but no baby changer its just an overlooked item they should look into. Plus the high chairs are ineffective the safety straps have been cut so no way to clasp the straps this is so unexceptable. Not my idea of a family friendly establishment. So vacationing in the east coast I've had some amazing food and I haven't had a chance to really sit down and describe them all yet, but the mediocre food, awful service, ripoff prices, and graveyard-esque dinner I had at Colbeh yesterday was something I just had to get off my chest. First off the management brought us two tadigs on the house (crispy rice with two difference stews), nice! This also came with tortillas. Wait what? Tortillas at a Persian restaurant? Awkward? Sinful? Yes and yes. Next came the food, all the dishes were insanely overpriced. I'm talking 40 bucks for a plate of kabob and rice. I have no idea why this is rated as 2 dollar signs. So I'm already expecting the best plate of Persian food ever. Well turns out they don't have boneless joojeh kabob which is what I wanted and is pretty much the most common thing imaginable. I got the bone in instead and asked for half rice half plain field greens. I told the waiter "just greens, no tomatoes no dressing or avocados. Just field greens, oil, and balsamic vinegar." Just greens oil and vinegar he asked and I again confirmed. When the food hit I had a tomato infested cream drenched salad. -____- When I told the waiter he brought the manager and again I reiterated my very simple request....this time I got a plate of iceberg lettuce, no vinegar, no oil. Whatever I was over it at this point. On to the food, the chicken had no flavor or juiciness, and barely any meat. For a 30 dollar plate I expected much higher quality. To add to all this, the place was literally a graveyard, no music, no fountain, nothing to mask the silence that was 5 people chewing food. Not to mention the manager or someone was having a fight with someone in the back, so this was literally our only entertainment. It was just a really bad vibe. We got another plate of fruit on the house afterwards but honestly all the comps did nothing to revive this experience. It. Sucked. read more

So, whether or not I have delved completely into Colbeh, it doesn't matter. It wasn't bad, but I won't be back, and this is my review. White tablecloths, noses high while we serve our food. Yes, pride exists. With reason? Eh, I guess. Saw a few parties going on there, seems like more of a catering hall than a restaurant. Which makes sense. Parties don't cater to the individual's experiences. Would I bring one here? Only if I felt like being left in the cold. The tables are big, so small groups get awkward. 6 would be my recommendation for a minimum table count. Smoke seems like a main ingredient in the dishes. Kebabs, burnt rice, eggplant stew. I've had Persian just a few times, so I am not the person to judge it against others. I am a person who can judge the human experience though, and here - I would be satisfied not to encounter again. read more

These people give a LOT of food - I always leave with a "doggy bag!" And it seems expensive, but they often comp bottles of wine, appetizers, and never hesitate to add to the take-out ... for example, they throw in multiple extra salads and a piece of chocolate cake ever since I got sick a while back - said "you're family and you're getting too skinny!" - in a nice way. And if I don't like the way something was cooked (I'm very picky, and "medium rare" isn't the easiest way to prepare food), they will deliver a full replacement right to my door in ten minutes or so. Or they'll refuse to charge the next time I pick up. Friendly, clean, and filling! read more

First my wife and I wanted to order there steaks and they had A few options on there menu but when we asked the waiter about the two steaks he said they can only make it one way and when we questioned why they wrote differently on there menu the waiters reply was Who are you going to believe the menu or me. I felt like I was in the Zohan movie. Secondly when it was time for desert the waiter recommended chocolate Mocha cake,we decided to take his word and try it but it had a funny smell to it. Very accommodating and food was fab! I hosted a Christmanukah party this past weekend, and when I called to order for catering the gentleman on the phone asked my budget and said he would make it work for me. When my husband got there they offered him a glass of wine while he waited (which wasn't long) mind you my hubby can be fussy and he actually complimented them.
