Rating: 4.3 Came to stop by while walking around Newport. It's a small gelato/sorbet speciality shop. The place seemed to be older so the door was stuck and staff had to come struggle to open it. Inside is typical of ice-cream shop with counter and the cooler with different type of gelato/sorbet. They have variety of flavors and some interesting one like Dubai chocolate, mandarin and Maine blueberry. They do let you try if you ask so if you are not sure you can ask to try them. I ended up getting large just so i can try different flavors and it's also just $1 difference from each size. I ended up getting Belgian chocolate, peanut butter browny and chocolate chip affogato flavors. They were all very tasty. I was impressed by the Belgian chocolate as it was super rich chocolate flavor i was looking for a while. This is the perfect place for a summer treat! My friends and I were looking for something sweet to end our day in Newport and we stumbled upon this place. All the employees at the shop were really friendly and allowed us to sample a few flavors. Within several blocks there are actually two Ben & Jerry's, two Kilwin's, and some local joints. Cold Fusion Gelato sells gelato and sorbets made by hand in their MA factory. Newport was their first location and the company just opened their second location in Westport, CT. Sorbet was the perfect, refreshing dessert after dinner, while strolling down Thames Street. It was difficult to choose from the many enticing fruity flavors. One night I ordered Key Lime and the next night, Passion Fruit. You could taste the fruit flavor bursting through. Cold Fusion's fruit sorbet was the perfect combination of sweet and tart flavors. Will definitely return on our next visit to Newport! read more

We visited the shop mid September as part of the RI Food Fights ice cream passport in September. Although the website states daily hours of 8-5, Yelp and Google showed different hours. I eventually discovered a trip advisor review from early September of a customer visiting several times on week days to find it closed. The owner commented that fall hours were weekend only. Not professionally listing a change in hours on any platform automatically docks a star for me. The shop is on a one way street. Luckily, we were able to find a metered spot right in front of the shop. We arrived a little after 3:30pm and watched a worker bring out the street sign. The shop is very small. Inside there are three round tables for couples. The menu included coffees, lattes, and shakes with the gelato and sorbet. On the website, they advertise having 34 flavors on display. I didn't count, but I definitely believe them. One freezer was filled with sorbet, and the other with gelato. The two scoopers were very nice, and informed us we could try unlimited samples. One of the gelato flavors I wanted, caramelized banana, was strangely very hard. The scooper said it wasn't normal, as she struggled to get a sample and a scoop for another customer. I tried a few more samples, but settled on the Tiramisu gelato. The boyfriend ordered the Peanut Butter Brownie gelato. The flavors of both were nice, but they melted very quickly. The texture was possibly too soft. I might come back in the summer to see if the consistency has changed. read more

Over my ten minute wait, I didn't see a single person walk away empty-handed, and believe me, there were some indecisive people in line. The gelato itself was a little more creamy and a little less sweet than I'm used to. I enjoyed the vanilla bourbon the best. The only let down - and maybe this was just a matter of timing and what they had in stock - was that they just had four options and two of those were takes on vanilla. On our way back to our car we decided to see what the fuzz was all about and I'm happy to report Cold Fusion Gelato hits the sweet spots with the right amount every scoop. Funny story: very shortly after getting gelato from sticks and waffles, I stumbled upon this place and it immediately made me crave gelato again. The inside of this place looked cute and friendly and there are so many selections of gelato! So as you might expect, I walked inside and I bought a small portion of their POG (pineapple, orange, and guava) and passion fruit gelato. First of all, their portion sizes are huge! A small portion had 2 fairly large scoops of both flavors that I ordered and it was enough go around my family. Second of all, their gelato is AMAZING. My favorite of the two was the POG.
