No one here wants to be working. They put in minimum effort. They did not address us when we first walked in, 3 different people working with only one other couple in the store who was checking out when we got in and yet it took 5 min to get any attention from them. They also let a family skip us, saw them walk in 2min after us yet they still served them first. Then, they were sold out of the one I wanted, which was fine, and told me to pick another. No big deal. But then I chose the cookie dough combo with Oreos added. She then said that that ice cream was melted and told me to pick another. I chose the cake batter base instead. Then instead of making the cookie dough one I wanted, she gave me cake batter with only Oreos in it. I never thought that an ice cream experience would be this annoying. Please retrain your staff or find new staff members with better attitudes about being there. I get that people are frustrated and have other things going on in their lives, but it right now is causing a bad look for them. read more

If you'd like ice cream, you definitely need to give Cold Stone a try. This location is almost always busy, but they try to get you through the line as efficiently as possible. I personally think that the "like it" size is more than enough ice cream. My favorite flavor is the cake batter ice cream. I love to mix in peanut butter sauce and chopped up brownies. My husband loves one of their specialty creations, called chocolate devotion. You can easily take your ice cream and sit near the river, which is always fun. read more

We were really looking forward for some ice cream from cold stone creamery after a day at the aquarium. Unfortunately the staff was not very helpful at the creamery. Instead of mixing the toppings into the ice cream they just plop it on top. I ordered our ice cream in a cone. The staff member put the ice cream in a cup, piled the chocolate chips, sprinkles and gummy worms into the cup and stuck a cone on top and handed me the cup that was smeared with melting ice cream. read more

I will preface this by saying I've been to a few Ice Cream Parlours in my day. Some good and some bad. But, I can say with complete confidence I've never been more impressed by a manager than I have at this Cold Stone. Casey the manager is like an urban legend amongst my group of friends. She seemingly works 24/7 with complete dedication to customer service and satisfaction. The Ice Cream cone and smoothie creation on her shift is a flawless work of art. This young adult has upper management written all over her. Hopefully Cold Stone appreciates her dedication to exquisite service and customer satisfaction. Located right outside the AMC theater building, it is a great place to have some amazing ice creams. We tried the Mud Pie Mojo and Creme Berry Brulee and both of them were awesome. I preferred Creme Berry Brulee compared to Mud Pie Mojo but that's just comparative. What I loved about the ice cream was also that it wasn't overly sweet - no mouthful of sugar. Flavors were good. The waffle cone was good too. For cone/cup size, be sure if you're going for a large because it takes about two people to finish that. And ice-cream is a kind of thing that doesn't go well in large portions. And small means you can try more options. Service was pretty good and quite fast - though there wasn't much of a rush. No problems there. Not much space to sit and eat there but plenty outside in the public area. Definitely one of the best places to go in Newport for desserts. read more

Ice cream is solid. Customer service has a lot to be desired. I understand a lot of the staff is probably in high school and not at a friendly stage in their life however this is still a business and if you want to improve the customer experience it starts with improving staff attitude. Wasn't anything crazy out of line I just felt like my presence wasn't welcome and there was not a whole Lot of joy in the building. People work hard for their money and they want to spend it at places that want them to be there. This is the most poorly ran Cold Stone I have ever been to. The staff is lazy and rude- there are always workers standing around doing nothing, the place itself is dirty, the toppings are stale because they don't put lids on anything, the ice cream is always melted in the case and then they scoop it out and let it sit there for 5 minutes before they mix it- it is just overall a hot mess. Not worth the money. I have been let down time and time again by this place. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt for the first 10 times I went there thinking it was because they were busy on the weekends, but it's a Monday at 7pm. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of ice cream! Pros: you can get about any ice cream flavor you would like, and they make it right in front of you. For example, if you want chocolate chip cookie dough, they fold it into whatever ice cream you want while you watch. If you have trouble making decisions, they even offer some special combos with pre-made selections. The guy who was attempting to make the ice cream was very entertaining (kudos!). He threw it up in the air and caught it in the ice cream cup. He did drop the ice cream scooper on the floor afterwards (accidents happen!). Super thankful he didn't re-use that, thanks!! Cons: this place is crazy! Not sure if it's because the Newport Aquarium is within walking distance or because it was a hot summer day--but it was insane. The space is super tiny, so if you are surrounded by children who are super excited about having ice cream... You can imagine the noise. Also, they are expensive! It was $14 for two medium ice cream, no extra toppings, no add ons-just ice cream in a cup. If you make your own, you have to add $1 for each topping. So--if you get a premade selection that has both chocolate chip cookie dough and brownies, you are not paying any extra. If you don't like the ice cream flavor and want to make it your own (let's say you want resees instead of brownies), you pay an additional dollar for every topping (you get one free)--when you are making your own. Not sure if they allow substitutions. If it weren't so crazy inside, I might have explored and made my own. Because it was so loud inside due to all the kids begging for ice cream, the man who was making our ice cream got the order wrong. He politely made an additional one; however, we ordered and paid for a medium and got a small. We normally would have asked them to fix the problem, but because of the extreme craziness of all the people crammed into the small space, we could not wait to get out of there. Also, we paid before we got our ice cream--so the guy trusted us on what we ordered. This didn't work to benefit, as we were not given what we paid for. He also asked us in front of the entire line of people if I wanted to add a tip onto our credit card balance. In all honesty, I never even considered tipping someone on my card who took two minutes of their time to make me ice cream. However, I might have been more inclined to leave some cash in the jar on the counter if I were impressed or not asked (I can read the tip sign). However, again, I was asked to do so before I even had a chance to hold my ice cream in my hands. Overall: Ice cream is pretty delicious regardless of what business, and you seriously can't go wrong with any flavor (I'm easy to please). However, I wasn't impressed with the overall tastiness. These people need to get it together. I have visited here a few times this month and I have had issues every time. Apparently no matter what the issue is no-one is to throw away the screw ups. There was a comment made each time that someone could've eaten that. Maybe that's why there are so many mistakes. "Ice cream doesn't go to waste here." Every time I go I order the strawberry blonde in a waffle bowl. One time they forgot the waffle bowl. One time they gave my order to someone else. The next time they put chocolate sauce on it. There are pictures of this ice cream all over the walls. They have a recipe. Cold Stone has some really tasty ice cream flavors with huge variety of add-ins sure to please even the most discerning ice cream connoisseur. I really love their Sinless Sans Fat variety of non-fat, no sugar added ice cream. Though I was skeptical at first, just one bite of this guilt-free dessert made me thrill. I thought, "There's NO WAY this can be fat-free. It tastes too good!" I also love Cold Stone's smoothies, but their marketing department does a little bit of trickery that has really annoyed me. When I go to the store, I see a lovely ad for a fruit smoothie (see picture), one that is not made with dairy products. Then when I order the drink, I get a creamy fruity milkshake type drink. See the drinks in the pictures are made with sorbet, not smoothie mixture (how's one to know this?). So the first time this occurred, I sent back the drink and they re-made it. The second time I drank it (good, but not what I wanted), because I felt I should have known better. I'll return to Cold Stone--I'll just ask more questions before I order. read more

What happened to the show? I remember when this place first opened the staff literally put on a show for the customers. This time... nothing. Suggestion one... get a small. A medium is HUGE! I got a medium and it was too much. Next - I got my ice cream and felt compelled to get some yummy stuff in it. I decided on Reese Cups. The dude threw one on top of the ice cream and asked if that was enough! I suppose asking before adding too much is a good thing, but when he asked after only plopping one on top I felt like asking for more was asking too much. I asked him to add one more. It was tasty, but if I'm getting "toppings" i want TOPPINGS! I didn't pay so I can't say whether it was it was reasonably priced. I've been coming to this place for years. It's the perfect place to stop for a treat when you're at Newport on the Levee. Most recently, we visited this past Saturday with my dad and baby. It was around 7p and the place was empty. I asked to sample a couple flavors and before I even realized what was happening the place was packed! Be sure to sign up for their rewards club so you're notified of seasonal flavors and so you receive coupons. Unfortunately, they were out of one of the seasonal flavors (Pumpkin Cheesecake). But they did have the other one - Creme Brûlée! I opted for the Mudd Signature Creation, but with a few tweeks. Instead of coffee ice cream, Oreo filling! And instead of Almonds, Reese's Cups! But I kept the chocolate sauce, peanut butter and Oreos. Now, this place is super tiny and doesn't offer any indoor seating. But there are other good options! I have visited this Cold Stone on multiple occasions and every time I have left stuffed and overall happy - my wallet may take a little beating, but my taste buds are always joyful! Overall this Cold Stone is just like any other with its array of ice cream, smoothies and cakes. I do have to say that the ice cream is definitely a splurge as a small or "Like It" is $5.50. On my last visit I got a Like It of the "Cookie Doughn't You Want Some" and after I ordered / the staff member started to make my ice cream he went to get scoop the cookie dough and noticed they were out, he went back to the back freezer and found they didn't have any in stock - the guy was very nice and let me substitute anything in for the cookie dough since they were out - I went with brownies and it was delicious! The one downfall of this location is that there isn't a place to sit and enjoy your ice cream inside - most other Cold Stones I've been too have this option so it was a little bit of a letdown when me and a friend went to get ice cream and it was 30 degrees out and we couldn't enjoy our ice cream inside. This is located pretty much dead center of Newport On The Levee. It's a small ice cream bar of sorts where they have lots of flavours of ice cream and some options to add to it like candy bar pieces, gummy bears, and such. I got the Oreo Overload in a waffle cone and on a separate trip tried the strawberry shake. The oreo was pretty much what you would expect as it had a lot of oreo pieces and a few other kinds of chocolate as well. Pretty good but nothing earthshattering. The shake was a pretty good take on strawberry as it had tons of strawberry flavour and little pieces tjat sometimes got stuck in the straw. My daughter loved her chocolate madness cone as well. The staff was kind of lackadaisical and kind of looked mad at each other. It didn't effect me or anything but it was a thing. At the end of the day it isn't a place to go out of your way for but it's definitely worth stopping in if you're close. read more

We were in and out in 5 minutes! Completely satisfied. I forget what we got but I love the mixing of other ingredients on the "cold stone". Really simple gimmick concept but it sets this place apart from the rest. I need to come more frequently to get a better sense of the ice cream etc. but for this visit my experience was really good.
