Friday afternoon I had dinner with my friend at Coles Dock Side in Great Kills by the marina. Everything is fabulous! The new owner, Kam, is keeping him please everything that worked at Cole's and improving upon it. We ordered the Ruby Red Cosmo, one of many special cocktails, which was very refreshing. Their price fixed menu, $29.95, offers an appetizer, main course and dessert. AND it includes a bottle of wine! Everything I have had here has been great!! And the service is wonderful! We came here for lunch on a Sunday. They were very nice. They only serve dinner all day. I began with clam chowder. It was okay, but I like the creamy, white chowda. Then I had pasta with clam sauce. It had a lot of clams. My husband had penne vodka. He said it was excellent. I'm conflicted if we'd return. I think if they did a bit of a makeover I'd be more enticed. The chairs were so worn. Came in on a Saturday night, called ahead but didn't have to. Nice friendly ambiance, quick service, friendly and funny waiter, fresh seafood and delicious dessert. A must try on Staten Island. It may have been because it was outside dining only during Covid but we had a terrible time and menu choices sucked. I ordered mediocre chicken parm dinner and was still hungry when I left. Hear this place is gorgeous in the summer when you can sit outdoors, but I bet in the summer it's filled to the gills. Just came here the other night for a date night with hubbles. We sat on the covered deck where it was quieter and enjoyed each other's company and conversation. The server was very nice. We split the seafood tower, each got mains, and split dessert. We loved this place in the past so we decided to try it out again. The food was delicious and abundant and the service was great. The only downfall was the bar. They can not make a margarita and my bourbon old fashioned was all ice cubes with minimal drink. They charged me $14 which was way over priced. I'll be back but without ordering drinks. read more

This restaurant is easily in the top 3 as far as seafood restaurants go on SI. Although some places make better dishes better than others but overall, Coles Dockside seems to make what it makes really well, despite not having a large extensive menu like Lobster House Joe's. I was expecting clam bakes, and lobster rolls when I visited here but was surprised when I didn't see those on the menu. Instead, there are some pretty interesting gourmet seafood plates offered along with the typical seafood pub fare; the fried calimari, baked clams, and fish and chips. I first ordered the raw oysters during happy hour, at around $2 each. They were very fresh. I was not particularly fond of the way they cut the horse radish, which was shaved rather than grated, but I like my raw oysters simple and only with a touch of lemon anyway. I then ordered the fish and chips which totally blew my mind. For just $11, they give you two huge flounder fillets and a nice basket of fries, served in a steel basket; all super crispy and delicious. Their tarter sauce was clearly homemade and absolutely bursting with flavor. Last but not least, their staple, the Scallop and Artichoke croustade. They are known for this dish and I can see why;- its prepared with lots of white wine, garlic and was absolutely delicious with some Italian bread to dunk with. Really delicious! I came here on a Thursday for date night and it was busy. But service was excellent, everything was delicious and we can't wait to go back! For appetizer, we had the fried calamari and it was the best I've had so far. Fresh and not chewy at all - melt in your mouth quality. Dreaming about it the next day! For dinner, I had the penne vodka and my boyfriend had the halibut special. Both were so tasty. The halibut was presented beautifully and had rich flavors. My vodka sauce was creamy and came with a personal side of grated cheese. We had the brownie volcano for dessert. It was garnished with mint and berries. I absolutely love this restaurant and everything about it. The food is ALWAYS fresh, delicious, and prepared super well. The people are so nice, especially the bartender Danny, and Mike! They always make me feel so at home whenever my boyfriend and I go for dinner! They have this amazing special on weekdays too where you can get a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine for the table, for $25 a person! (The more people, the more wine you get.) Been driving by this place for years. 5 of us went in and tried prix fixe. Baked clam appetizer was very good , muscles in red sauce extra tasty. Mozzarella was fresh and service was good. Complimentary bottle of Pinot Grigio went well with dinner. I ordered the Basa which was lightly battered and cooked perfectly. We also ordered a cod dish that was equally as good . And their desserts are homemade and outrageous and the bar is always pouring great drinks! Raw bar is always a tasty treat as I indulge in oysters and clams quite often.... After not going to Coles for a long time as I was not impressed with the food, my wife and I decided to try it as we heard it had new owners. It was an excellent decision. We have been back 3 times in the last month and a half. The new owners are great and friendly , the food was fresh and spot on. Both my wife and I have tried different dishes each time and they all were delicious . The seafood offerings were nicely portioned and cooked perfectly and my wife had the Sunday sauce and said it was great. They seemed to have cleaned and spruced up the restaurant . This place is really nice. I like that its in the marina and im happy they reopened after Sandy. The decor is a bit dated and not as romantic as it could be. Coles has a bar which gets filled up quickly. The waiter was nice and went out of his way to make this a special night. We started with grilled shrimps wrapped in proscuitto and drizzled with a grand mariner sauce. They were cooked perfectly. You tasted the smokiness of the wood saltiness of proscuitto and sweetness of the sauce. It went so well together. We also got crab cakes. They had a lot of flavor and large chunks of crab. It had a balsamic reduction which went well with it. For dinner i had surf and turf and he had scallops organata. Both were perfectly executed. However surf and turf is not on the menu. You must ask for it. The chef was happily able to prepare it for me. Im happy that places like this are starting to thrive after hurricane sandy. I do wish though that they wouldnt over charge on such petty things like soda when spending so much on a meal. The least you can do is give free refills on sodas that small. read more

Met two friends for lunch and chose a table on Cole's lovely full windowed, closed-in porch. Although the lunch prix fixe was not available, the waitress did offer the dinner prix fixe, which had interesting choices. $25.95 offered an appetizer (9 choices), entree (13 selections), coffee, and desert. If two or more choose the prix fix, as we did, a bottle of wine to share is included. The baked clams, codfish oreganato, chocolate crepe was delicious, and the wine selection lovely (Salmon Creek Pinot Grigio). Service was excellent, and we were allowed to enjoy a very lovely and leisurely lunch, staying from 1:30 until 4:00. All staff wore masks, and our table was distanced from others. It was not crowded during our stay, so there was no problem with other diners seated too close. The prix fixe is not offered on Saturday or Sunday, and only until 6:00 on Friday. read more

This is a really nice local restaurant serving really fresh seafood. It makes really good use of its location near the marina and being on an island. I went with my parents on a Saturday night. We called ahead to reserve a table to be safe after a few other places said they were booked. They had the table ready when we arrived but it wasn't really prepared - there wasn't cutlery, plates or glassware for everyone. Overall the service was kind of off - a waitress never introduced herself to us, but random people would walk up to us and ask if we needed anything. The drinks came out pretty quickly and they weren't anything special - the martini with the blue cheese stuffed olive was fine. The bread basket arrived with a fresh loaf of bread but also one bizarrely stale piece that appeared to be red with sauce. It took a while for the food to come out but it was fresh so I didn't mind. The calamari was delicious - it almost melted in your mouth, firm without being chewy. The duck rolls were alright - the sauce was good but it was clearly an effort to re-use old duck. I had the scallops as my entree and they were delicious. My mother got the blackened shrimp and scallops on top of the arugula salad. The dish had a bit of spice to it so be warned. Overall I think the service wasn't great because they were really busy - which isn't an ideal scenario but is understandable. I'd also rather a seafood restaurant be too busy than the opposite. I enjoyed my entree a lot and could see myself returning with family for a casual dinner. read more
