Colette looked like a neat, swanky downtown rooftop eatery that had an interesting concept of Latin-Asian-French fusion cuisine. It shares its space with Paramour Bar. Lots of potential, but poorly managed and executed. Wait times are ridiculously long! Prices are stupidly insane!! Not ready for prime time; save your money and go elsewhere. No parking, except for a few spots on the street. You have to use weird side entrance to go in. We were 15 minutes early and decided to get one of their overpriced and underwhelming drinks, costing anywhere from $18-$99. Wine is only by the bottle and not by the glass or at least it's not advertised. Plus, even if you find a bottle on their wine list, it's likely that they don't even have it. Begrudgingly, we chose two cocktails at their minimum price of $18 dollars, and though good, they were not worthy of the ridiculous price tag. We paid the bar tab and were ushered by a hostess to what we thought was gonna be our table on the Colette side, but instead we were led to yet another waiting area. After about another 7-10 minutes we were seated, in what was not really a busy restaurant. There are only about 15-20 tables available, which does help to make it seem a little more intimate. By the time we got seated it was 8:35, and sadly, just the beginning of a dismal experience. Our waitress greeted us, saw that we had drinks and offered us water, menus and wine list. We told her we were there for the Culinaria Week, so she had to go back and look for those menus. Seems weird that they wouldn't provide them up front, since they're participating in the program. Our waitress would not take our whole order, instead opting to only take the first course. We chose the Aji Mango Ceviche and Salmon Crudo & Scallion Ginger Sauce. It took quite a while to get these to our table, but when they did arrive, they looked very nice. The Salmon Crudo was pretty good and had a nice acidity and flavor to it, but Ceviche was just...okay. Mostly mango, and light on the seafood. Nothing spectacular, at all. However, if you were to purchase this dish on their normal menu, it would cost you $30 bucks! And, this is basically how the entire dining experience went. I don't know what the hell happened: the kitchen crashed, the bar crashed, the waitresses crashed...??? We would wait, and wait, and wait. Our waitress never comes back, instead is replaced by another. All the guests are looking around at each other like WTH is going on?! Some folks got up and just left, others were visibly frustrated, as it really wasn't that busy. The absolute worst part for us, though, was that the owner/manager did absolutely squat, to help any member of his staff. Not help run food; not help tend bar; not help the wait staff with their tables or check on guests or get customers water or anything!! Instead, this guy just made himself drinks, and watched his entire restaurant crash and burn. Pathetic. We decided we'd be better served ordering a bottle of wine, to go with our main course, instead of the ridiculously overpriced cocktails. Well, they didn't have it. We gave them a second option. They didn't have that. Instead, they basically came back and gave us one option of what they did have. Frustrated we said fine. We finished the bottle before we ever got our main course.By this time it's 10:15pm, no more wine, no water, and we're finally getting our main course, which was the Standing Tuna Sandwich and Tacos Lust. Both, looked rushed, but we were so hungry by this time, we just wanted to get through it. The Tuna had way too much mayo and the wonton shell was just piecemeal together. The Tacos Lust was just ribeye street tacos with a hap-hazard piece of gold leaf thrown on it. Flavors of the food were ok, and there's definitely something there, but execution is missing and holding the food back. Lastly, we were smart enough to tell them our dessert order when they got our main course. We chose the Flambé Burnt Cheesecake and Mango Coconut Crème Brûlée. There was quite the ordeal of trying to light the glass of Liquor 43 to then pour over the cheesecake. I didn't care for it at all. But, it was a million times better than the abomination that was the Crème Brûlée. It looked nice enough, but as soon as you cracked the sugar crust it was a completely inedible soupy mess. Words cannot describe how terrible it was. Gross. We had several disappointing conversations with the wait staff during our visit, mostly because the manager never once came out to talk to his customers, so they comp'd our probably $8 wine. We paid and we did leave a generous cash tip for the one waitress who was really trying.

Looking for a great date night spot, Colette at the Phipps is your place. The ambiance was very chill, modern, chic. Loved the vibe in this place. Drinks were on point. I ordered the strawberry ranch water. Who would have thought to put strawberries in a ranch water. That was a game changer. While we waited for our reservation we sat at paramour to have drinks and enjoy some nice photo ops with the sun set. Service was excellent, the wait staff was very attentive and accommodating. The food was delicious. We ordered the lust tacos.... Very tasty and unique. The spicy edamame has just the right amount of spicy. The La Familia (the 14 oz prime ribeye) was cooked to perfection. The truffle fries had just the right amount of truffle. I loved every minute of this restaurant and bar.

Very disappointed in our experience here! We were super excited to try this place after seeing pictures on Instagram. The restaurant is very pretty and has super nice views but the service was absolutely atrocious! We had reservations at 8 and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. We were not served when we were sat and had to ask for a server. We were brought water and waited 30 more minutes for our drink order to be taken. We then had to ask again for our food order to be taken. We ordered ceviche, spicy tuna, and a cabbage miso. All of these are quick items however, we were not served our food until 10 pm. The ceviche and spicy tuna were decent but were overpriced and not worth the wait. The cabbage dish was literally a piece of cabbage with miso paste on top. It was nothing like what was described on the menu. Absolutely ridiculous for the price. The staff did not check up on us at all. It was not busy enough to constitute this level of neglect from the staff. When we voiced our complaints the staff did nothing to reconcile the situation. We will definitely not be back and I would recommend you skip this spot.

Our Experience at Colette at the Phipps was just wonderful. The ambiance is second to none. The host and our waiter were so kind and helpful. Our drinks were so delicious and refreshing. Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations. We started with AJI Mango Ceviche which was fresh and fantastic, we also ordered the carnitas dumplings as part of our appetizers and those were so delicious as well. For our main courses we both had the Tacos Lust which were cooked to perfection! We loved everything from our experience at Colette and absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice rooftop dinner with a palette looking for an explosion of flavors! We can't wait to be back!

I absolutely loved the aesthetics -- there was plenty of parking, and when you walk inside, the décor feels classic, elegant, and welcoming. Our server, David, was extremely professional. His knowledge, attentiveness, and overall professionalism made this a really special birthday night for my boyfriend. We appreciated all the recommendations he made. We started with a Tempranillo red wine and a specialty cocktail. For appetizers, we chose the goat cheese salad and the French onion soup. Both were excellent -- the goat cheese salad was fresh and light, with an amazing crunch and flavor from the cheese. I would definitely order it again. The French onion soup was classic but honestly one of the best I've had, with the perfect balance of onion, salt, and cheese. For our mains, we ordered the beef Wellington and the lobster risotto, along with sides of blue cheese cauliflower and scalloped potatoes. The beef Wellington was surprisingly good -- I loved the crisp puff pastry combined with the mushrooms, beef, and sauce. The lobster risotto was chef's kiss -- absolutely delicious. I'm so glad they introduced the new menu because this dish was outstanding. The blue cheese cauliflower tasted good, though I wish the cream sauce had been a bit thicker so it would coat the cauliflower better. The scalloped potatoes, however, were phenomenal. We finished with a slice of strawberry cake that was incredibly moist and reminded me of strawberry ice cream with that nostalgic crumb coating -- really delicious. Overall, we were both extremely happy with our meals and the experience. We'll definitely be back to try more items and highly recommend it!

After reading many positive reviews on Yelp, we decided to try La Frite Belgian Bistro. We initially attempted to make a reservation for three through Yelp, but it wouldn't allow us to book for our desired time. We were able to secure one reservation for two and another for one. Fortunately, after calling the restaurant just prior to opening, they kindly combined the reservations and accommodated the three of us without issue. When we arrived on a Saturday evening, we were pleased to find the main dining area small and quaint, creating an intimate and charming atmosphere. At first, we thought this was the only dining space, but they also have additional storefront dining areas on each side, providing ample seating. We arrived shortly after opening, and only a few tables were occupied. That quickly changed -- by the time we left, every table in the restaurant was filled. We were warmly greeted at the door and seated at a front window table, which offered a great view outside. The gentleman who seated us also served as our waiter. I don't recall his name, but he was exceptionally professional and attentive, providing outstanding service throughout the evening. We ordered a carafe of white wine, which our server recommended as a great value -- and it truly was. For starters (using non-French names for simplicity), we ordered a large portion of mussels in a basil, garlic, butter, and white wine broth. The mussels (moules) are offered in seven different sauces, and after tasting ours, I wish we could have tried every one of them. They were plump and fresh, served over an abundant, flavorful broth that paired perfectly with the fresh bread -- ideal for soaking up every last drop. Our second shared appetizer was escargot prepared Burgundy-style in a rich herb butter sauce. The escargot were tender, earthy, and generously coated in a garlic-forward herb butter that was absolutely delicious. Again, the fresh bread ensured none of that wonderful sauce went to waste. For entrées, we began with the Steak Au Poivre. We selected the tenderloin, which arrived perfectly cooked to medium rare. It was tender, well-seasoned, and accompanied by crisp fries and a fresh selection of cooked vegetables. Our second entrée was a crab and mushroom crepe. The delicate crepe was filled with fresh crab and mushrooms in a light white cream sauce that also draped over the top. The flavors were fresh, balanced, and beautifully seasoned. Although we were extremely full, it was impossible to pass on dessert. We ordered both the lemon tart and the chocolate tart. The lemon tart featured a crisp, flavorful crust with a firm, well-balanced lemon filling that delivered just the right amount of brightness. The chocolate tart shared the same crisp crust but was filled with a rich, decadent chocolate center with a smooth consistency that allowed the flavor to linger pleasantly on the palate. We will definitely return on our next visit. This truly is a wonderful gem in San Antonio

Our twelve guests ranged in age from 14-79 years, and everyone had a wonderful experience. Overall, I'd say most of the people in our group probably would not go back, but I don't necessarily think that was because the food was bad or lacking flavor. I think a lot of us just weren't very accustomed to Mediterranean flavor profiles and this style of dining. Most of us really enjoyed the dips, the meats, and the desserts. Those were definitely the standout parts of the meal for our group. Some of the dishes in between were a little more questionable for us personally -- we tried everything, but there wasn't necessarily one specific dish we completely fell in love with. That being said, the experience itself was amazing. The atmosphere was so cool and unlike anything we had done before. Being served course after course and getting to experience so many different dishes made the meal feel really unique and memorable. All of the staff members who waited on us were absolutely fantastic and so understanding of some of our questioning looks while trying unfamiliar foods. Everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made the experience feel fun and comfortable from start to finish. If you already love Mediterranean food, this place may be right up your alley. I just think it's good to know what kind of flavor profiles to expect before coming, especially if you're newer to this type of cuisine. Overall, we still had a great time there.
