Is it too soon to call this my new favorite bakery in the Boston area? I felt like I was back in France as soon as I walked in, and oh my gosh, those pastries delivered. Being only one person, I naturally decided to try almost one of every pastry, and it was all delicious. The croissants were super flaky and shattered into thousands of delicate pastry crumbs. The kouign amann was perfection. The amandine was delightful with a strong almond flavor, just the right level of sweetness, and a perfectly baked crust. The tiny chouquette were delightful and the perfect little snack. But my favorite ended up being the passion fruit flower. I couldn't resist when I saw how cute it was in the case, and I was wowed with my first bite. The tart and smooth passion fruit curd contrasting with the sweet and crispy meringue was one of the best bites I've had all year. I still think about it sometimes. This place gets absolutely packed on the weekends, but luckily I woke up early and at 8:30AM, it was manageable. There is very limited seating (maybe due to COVID), but the interior is very charming and cozy. If you're even close to this part of Medford, don't miss this place! read more

Absolutely spectacular all around. In my two visits here, I was able to try five different baked goods, all of which were delicious and distinctive. Those being: - Pain au chocolat - Chouquette - Queen Amann (not to be missed!) - Chocolate bread (small but dense and filling) - Almond Croissant (? - it was denser than a typical croissant) Everything was tremendously fresh, and the Almond Croissant was still warm. There was that finger-licking flakiness where it was called for, and nothing was overly sweet or greasy. The lines can get pretty long, from what I'm told, but they move quickly. The service here is very kind and polite also! They have coffee options, though the coffee isn't anything to write home about. It is noted that I wish the pain au chocolat had more chocolate, but this small amount seems almost universal. I was still curious and asked about this. Apparently, the reason is people like to dunk these into their coffee. The lower amount of chocolate keeps it from being over-sweet. I'm a capitalist; I understand the market demands what it demands, it is what it is, etc. The only real negatives are ones I can't possibly hold against the business. I've been meaning to stop by this place ever since I moved to the area. This is the cutest bakery! A line quickly formed after I ordered my tuna sandwich and apple turnovers. The owner even offered to cut my sandwich for me which was very nice. I noticed that all (if not most) of the staff were speaking in French; it really elevated my first French bakery experience. Cute French cafe on the corner. Very authentic, everything is made in house every morning. We tried an assortment of treat. The French Brest was sweet and delicious, the cream was perfectly fluffy and I loved the whole hazelnuts. Tried out the banoffee tart - the banana was subtle in a good way. Latte was decent. Lovely spot, kind staff, and wonderful pastries. Give the coffee eclair a try - you won't regret having a soft pastry, crumbly topping, sweet icing, and a luxurious coffee cream. I had tomato quiche, eclair, hazel nut cream pastries. I really liked all and tasted authentic. For me, good, but a little too heavy. Quiche and 1 pastry at lunch made me full and wasn't hungry until 8 p.m. Probably they have a lot of fat. Other than that I liked the taste a lot. read more

Great french bakery with lots of selections. I looked at the website and everything looked exciting. They have both savory and sweet selections. They take pre orders wed and thursdays but I wanted to go visit the location in person. I highly recommend going early. I was there when they opened at 8am and there were already people in front of me. Food: they have sandwiches, breads, sweet pastries and a gluten free option. I normally dont like fruit in my pastries but the gluten free option (passion flower) was actually very good. I got almost one of everything to get the full experience. The eclairs were great (both chocolate and coffee) with a crackling shell unlike the typical smooth choux dough. The coffee eclair had coffee cream and the chocolate eclair filled with chocolate. The best part about the eclair is a custard like pastry cream not whipping cream like most places. The only con I have is that the chocolate croissant (choc-colette) could have more chocolate. Unfortunately the vanilla caramel brioche wasnt ready when I came so I didnt get to try it. The flan was light and rich. Still good definitely not the Latin style flan de queso which I prefer. Right now, they have a person to take your orders and check you out, including packing the pastries, making drinks or slicing breads. The problem with this is that these tasks require them to change gloves, touch monies, etc.. My recommendation is that they have one person taking orders, and one person handles the drinks and payments. Given how small the space is, simplify the process. read more

I love this bakery. It is a Somerville gem. They list the ingredients for a few of their breads and its salt, flour, water, and yeast, which is the only ingredients bread should have. They also have other specialty pastries and sandwiches which are awesome. They do sell out quickly of some of their specialty items so you'll need to get there earlier in the day and may have to wait in a line, but this moves quickly. read more

I was looking for a place to meet a friend near Somerville. This place had a "No mask needed" sign, and it was packed..so we decided to take things out and sit somewhere outside. I got their plain croissant, pain au chocolat, almond croissant, "campagne" sandwich, blueberry tart and Paris Brest. Also a cappuccino. My favorite was the almond croissant - really great filling (not too gooey or overly sweet& the ratio was good), great texture. I also really liked the blueberry tart- very nice crust with nutty flavor, nice pastry cream and good amount of blueberry. Plain croissant was good, too, but I've had it better in many places. Same with pain au chocolat. Paris Brest was good. (Hazelnut flavor) Campagne (which was like jambon beurre) was ok. The baguette was a little too thick and hard, and too many cornichons..just the ratio of things was not my favorite kind. Butter tasted good, though. Cappuccino wasn't my favorite. I am very picky about my coffee, and this is definitely bakery that just serves coffee. (Some bakeries do excellent in both areas.) Overall it's a cute place with many good things. Not sure if I'll go out of my way to visit again, but definitely worth a bit of driving if you're near Medford. read more

This place is heaven. And France. You must go. There's often a line, but you can order ahead and swing by to pick it up. The only drawback with doing so is that your impulse purchasing is curtailed. When you stand in front of the display case, you'll want one of everything. Go ahead, EVERYTHING is so delicious, you can't go wrong. The sandwiches are sublime. The bread? Amazing. The ends of the baguette de campaignes are so pointy that you have to twist both ends of the paper bag to prevent poking yourself. Highly recommend! I have only gotten to go here once so far, but I'm pretty sure it's going to become a neighborhood gem and a go-to for me. The pastries I got were all DELICIOUS! They didn't have any seating in the cafe yet (makes sense because of the COVID19 pandemic) but it looks like it'll be a cute place to eat in once this is cleared up. Presently they are only allowing 2 people in the store at a time. They have hand sanitizer available for customers and take touch-less payment (for orders over $7 HELLOOO APPLE PAY). Soggy quiche and pastries that are supposed to be flaky. Have been to this place a few times before and the previous times have been pretty good (though still not quite at the same level as places like Cafe Madeleine, Iggy's, Clear Flour, etc.). Where do all these 5 star reviews come from?? Are they real??? We asked for the quiche to be heated up and the result was still a very soggy crust and the filling was very watery. This is worse than what you get from a regular supermarket. We skipped the croissant because it already didn't look right (you could see that it is soggy!), but didn't expect these other two better looking ones (the kouign-amann and another with suposedly flaky dough and chocolate chips on it) to be simply way below par. Very sad to see the quality has gone down so much. I wish the owner would taste their own stuff regularly and in this case, make serious improvements. read more
