The staff are nice and friendly. You'll order first then recieve a number for your table. The drinks arrived first then the food. Both arrived at a decent time. I got the breakfast sandwich. It was really good. The bacon was great! The buns were nice and toasty. The hash browns were pretty good and light. The lavender latte was good. One thing to note, which isn't a drawback, is that this isn't a typical sit-down restaurant. You order at the counter, take a number, and find a seat. There's really no table service, just food runners and bussers. And you grab your own water. Definitely seems like they're trying to cut costs by having no waiters. The food is mid at best, with overpriced menu items. I ordered the lumberjack breakfast, the waffles and eggs were decent, but the hash browns sorely lacked any seasoning or flavor. Their texture was similar to soggy fries. I told myself, "okay, maybe just a miss on this one item." I came back a second time and tried the eggs Benedict, and that too lacked any flavor or seasoning. Definitely disappointed with this place. There are better spots in Laguna that match the vibe. All the staff we came in contact with were incredible professional BUT not mechanical which is a definite plus. Placed our orders: We always start with a cinnamon roll wherever we go! Ordered one and was disappointed as it was a version that resembled a not-so-good puff pastry Elephant Ear thing. Too dry for me. My friend was a little more forgiving. We also ordered the PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE which more than made up for it. THATS SAID AND DONE... The YOGURT BOWL was amazing! She mentioned the LEMON CURD was "magical". I had the BAGEL AND LOX. OMG! It was delicious!! The arugula and the dressing - not exactly sure what it was, was RIDICULOUSLY tasty. I think it had an avocado base? I ordered a side of BACON - which you can decide on the cook - soft or crunchy. I'm guessing it wouldn't matte because it's amazing! Thick cut yumminess! I ordered a side of SPINACH - not offered on the menu but, as it is in a dish I wanted to see if they accommodated. They did! And I was expecting steamed greens on a plate. But, they use a high quality olive oil because I tasted it and was surprised. Very happy! We enjoy a few GUAVA MIMOSAS at the recommendation of the gentlemen. He was right! Finally, the coffee. You get your own. It was dark and rich and satisfying. The bathrooms are clean. The kitchen is exposed so you can actually watch the goings on. Tables inside / picnic tables outside. Friendly staff!! Comfortable ambience. This place checks all the squares!! If you haven't been here make it a regular spot on weekends. It's worth the trip. Kitchen in the Canyon is a hidden gem tucked away in a little business pocket in Laguna. We shared the breakfast burrito with sausage and a side of hash browns, the burrito was so good, with red potatoes inside that gave it the perfect amount of yum. It's definitely big enough to share. The hash browns were... hash browns, solid but nothing fancy. I also had the oatmilk rose latte, which was perfect. It's a walk up and order type of place, the cashier was not the friendliest but I also think it had been a bit busy just before we got there. The space has ample indoor and outdoor seating, and since we don't get to enjoy outdoor dining much during the summer back home, it was a nice treat. The menu had so many great-sounding options that we already want to go back and try more. We'd definitely stop here again next time we're in Laguna. read more

This is the quintessential Southern Californian brunch spot with fresh light delicious food and good coffee. Admittedly it's in Laguna Beach but not overlooking the water; however, it's right by the Sawdust Art Festival which also has its own SoCal beach vibes. I am addicted to their shrimp bowl, I don't know what it is about it but it's so satisfying and not too heavy but still filling and delicious. They have a splendid looking pastry case as well but I'm never here early enough because every time I've been here, it's been picked through, so they must be pretty popular. Huge disappointment. Over priced, underwhelming food. There's minimal service to comment on because you order at the counter, serve yourself water from one station and coffee from another. No decaf, just a one carafe/dispenser with cream & sugar packets. It was Sunday morning at 11 and no coffee. We asked 3 times over 10 minutes time and they couldn't get it out. Last request, the gentleman we asked twice already (who said he would put out the dispenser) sent a young lady to go get us a cup from behind the counter. That coffee cup was overfilled and tasted burnt. We didn't ever get the 2 cups we purchased. They had a lot of staff, just not taking care of people. A lot of customers walked in and back out, because tables weren't cleaned. Also I think they may have expected a place where you sit down & get waited on. We wish we had not stayed. Food came out fairly fast. The chicken & waffles were not good. Chicken fingers were dry, coated in unseasoned batter, and waffle was soft, no butter served. We asked & were given 2 little butter pats. Pancakes were very generous size, but gummy, not airy. Eggs were cooked over easy- those were fine. Came here this morning for breakfast. The food is okay. I had an omelet and my husband had steak and eggs. The steak in my omelet was a cheap cut (dry and chewy) similar to what you would get in street tacos. It was mixed with peppers and onions. It's very similar to food you would get at a diner. The coffee was okay. It looked pretty but my caramel macchiato tasted like a mixed drink... not super toddler friendly either. They never offered a high chair or extra plate for our baby which I find not very inviting. I also spilled my coffee towards the end of our meal and the food runner came out to pick up our dishes. He did not offer a towel or napkins which I also found to be a lack of service. The environment was quiet but I would not come back for it. I can't believe I just discovered this place today. Laguna is just a beautiful place with very down-to-earth people, and this restaurant represents that perfectly. It's a very casual setting -- order at the register and they bring everything out to you. The staff was so friendly and served us with a smile. Inside was cozy, clean, and well organized, and their outdoor tables are dog-friendly. Our lox Benedicts and brioche French toast were solid. Not if you are on any sort of special diet... I've been coming to this restaurant every summer for the last eight years. I am an artist and I come up from San Diego for my summer art show. Late last year I began to have issues with my digestive system, and unfortunately, my diet had to change dramatically. We had the opportunity to have lunch at Kitchen today, and I specifically asked for the shrimp on my salad to be cooked ONLY with salt and pepper because I cannot eat the garlic and onion salt that they normally put on the shrimp. When I eat garlic and onion, my body does not digest these foods properly, and I become ill and bloated. Unfortunately, I didn't confirm my order with the server when he delivered the food and I ate half of the shrimp. That was about 12:30 PM. It's 5:30 PM now and I have been in bed for the last three hours in pain and feeling pretty miserable. I AM NOT HAPPY. And neither is my husband, because he's not getting the steak, Caesar salad and baked potato that I promised him for dinner. Before I started having issues with my gut, I never gave it much thought. Now it's an issue; and people who are serving and making food for others and the people who manage those people should take more care on what they're feeding their customers with special requests. read more

You order your food at the window and they bring it out so there's not much to say about the service other than they were nice. The inside is huge and have high chairs for children, which is great. I have been to Kitchen in the Canyon many times and I have never had a bad meal. This morning I went to have brunch. The restaurant is set up so that you go to a counter and order and it is delivered to your table. Also in the summer you will see a parking attendant that collects for parking if you are going to one of the art festivals but if you tell them that you are going to eat they will have you park towards the back of the lot. I got a Spinach Benedict with hash brown potatoes. The hash brown potatoes were ok but I have had the roasted potatoes before and I prefer those to the hash brown potatoes. The spinach was sautéed in garlic and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The hollandaise sauce was delicious. Everything was fresh and tasty. The ambiance could be better because most of the seating is located outside on picnic benches with some tables and chairs located along the windows of the building. There are a number of tables and chairs on the inside, but this place is very popular with the locals and is located adjacent to the Sawdust Festival so it is very busy and finding a table inside may be challenging depending on the time of day. I still really like this place even though it isn't a high end restaurant and would definitely recommend it. read more
