Coolest place right off the highway. They transform the candy shop every Halloween and Christmas into a holiday wonderland, it's incredible! I just picked up some pumpkin pie fudge and it's like nothing I've ever tasted before!!! Terrible customer service! We went here last night and the girl working the counter had a terrible attitude problem. Never once smiled, and clearly disliked children. The ice cream bar was mediocre. Confusing why only some of the toppings are available to add your self, while others such as marshmallow and whipped cream can only be added from the staff from behind the counter. Wouldn't recommend. I can get the same ice cream bar without the rude staff else where. read more

A candy/ice cream lover's dream!!! The sundae bar is the coolest way to eat ice cream. You order a 1, 2, or 3 scoop ice cream in a bowl, then there is a buffet bar that is probalby 25 feet long of every kind of topping you can imagine. Homemade soft, warm chocolate, caramel, butterscotch, dark chocolate sauces, then apples, cherries, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, and other fruits in syrup, there are walnuts in a maple syrup, creamy peanut butter, crushed M&Ms, heath bar, sprinkles, and every other type of topping you can imagine! Soooo delicious! The store offers lots of gift items, as well as individual candies, such as chocolates formed into footballs, bears, and other items on a stick for $.95. There are picnic tables outside under pine trees to sit on if it's a nice day. read more

I had not been here in years! On my previous visit this building was the outpost mansion of the Herbert Candy Mansion located on rt 20 in Shrewbury, MA. Since that last visit in the early 1990s the Hebert family sold the Herbert Candy business (including the name) located on rt 20, kept this location and named it Colonial Candy. An outdoor sign says the building will be getting new siding but the inside looks unchanged from decades earlier. They still offer the sundae bar with many toppings and had a good amount of boxed candy lined on the table but something was missing. Despite the many windows not much sun came into the building and the displays were tidy but were not visually interesting. As Heberts, colorful candy displays according to the season would grace the tables and elaborate displays would line the staircase. While there were a small end cap of St. Patrick theme candy and some spring theme egg shape candy there was no Easter candy or Easter baskets around. Maybe the timing was still early? The sample dish was empty of samples and after previously reading how one yelp reviewer was yelled at for taking a sample I didn't dare ask the woman on staff to fill the dish, lol. In closing, I was surprised of none of the candy had expiration dates. I looked on boxes and on the candy bars. I wanted to try the white chocolate candy which the Herbert family had invented. The white chocolate candy bar listed real vanilla not the artificial vanillian as an ingredient but there was no expiration date listed. Instead, I choose a St Patrick theme white chocolate pop reasoning that must be the freshest candy of the batch but none of the ingredients were listed. I asked the clerk if indeed the same ingredients were used in both candy . She sort of agreed but from her tone I wasn't sure if she really knew or just assumed that fact. maybe I timed this visit wrong but my trip to the original Shrewbury loocation a few weeks ago was a more upbeat experience. read more

I've always come here as a halfway meeting spot to drop off/pick up my children. For the first time in years I decided to actually go in and check it out since I was a bit early. I walked in to very dim lighting, but a large variety of candy. I decided I wanted to grab an ice cream to kill some time. I stood at the ice cream counter for a good minute or two watching two employees scrape the ice cream and the ice in the freezer. Both of them looked at me but didn't say anything, literally nothing. I continued to wait when it dawned on me that they were possibly closed (the store was open for another hour.) I proceeded to ask the gentleman as I awkwardly stood there, "are you guys closed" he said "yes, just the ice cream." So, I walked away and decided to get some sour cherry candies. I stood at the cashier for a good minute before anyone came to check me out. Mind you, the cashier is right across from where they're scrapping ice cream. Needless to say their customer service is terrible and the store is nothing to boast about. read more

I am from Alabama traveling through Mass to Conn. Literally swerved off the road to take my friends to this Candy kitchen. Sugar Road was sweet, The building quaint. We went inside and I was tickled with the assortment. Walked over to the rear of the store where they had 1 Oreo dipped in chocolate cute into 4 pieces. I tasted one piece. Thought not bad....picked up another to hand to my best friend and literally was yelled at by this woman with long hair in a bad pony tail looking a little unkempt that ONE SAMPLE PER CUSTOMER!!!! not only was the extremely embarrassing but RUDE and if you are going to cute up ONE Oreo for samples lighted up on the screaming at your CUSTOMERS. Never EVER would I spend money here. NEVER EVER would I recommend stopping here. Never have I been treated so badly over their 1/4 of an Oreo. As a traveler on my big trip through the north I and my friends had ALOT of money for snacks and treats and christmas gifties. They shot that all to hell. I don't care how good or bad their candy and ice cream was. The people are so awful I wouldn't spend money there. read more

I love this candy store!!! It's absolutely the place to take the family, especially around the holidays!!! They do a fantastic job of decorating, with blowups on the outside, and seasonal decorations on the inside. Great for taking pictures. They have the best chocolate! It is smooth & creamy. The best I have ever had. They had the largest cashews I have ever seen. I will return to pick up my gift baskets for my friends & family for the Holidays!!! read more

The only reason I gave it a one star was because of the packaging. It was a three tier of red velvet boxes for Valentine's Day. The top box had peppermint hard candy, like you'd buy at a drugstore, the second one had red foil chocolate harts, the last was the most disgusting small box of filled chocolates. Like all the flavors you'd throw away in a cheap box of chocolates again from the drugstore! They also left a bad artificial taste in your mouth. Told my husband never buy their chocolates again!! read more

One of the cutest stores I've ever been to! The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming and I would definitely recommend coming here with your family or friends or whatever. The chocolate is fantastic and the ice cream sundae bar is to die for! I also love the Christmas in July section! Definitely check this place out! read more
