We have been wanting to sample this place for quite a while now so the night of the Pink concert we did some pregaming!! The shop is incredibly charming and just made me happy walking inside. Their cupcakes are large and the sweet bakery smell is inviting! We chose two cupcakes to share. Once called A Sunday Morning something (I apologize for not remembering correctly) and we had a salted caramel one. The Sunday Morning one tasted like pancakes with maple frosting and it was so moist and delicious we all agreed it was our favorite. The second was a decent cake but the icing tasted like a stick of butter. I don't know if that is what they mean for their buttercream to taste like but it was off putting and we couldn't finish it at all. We want to go back and try other cupcakes for sure! And I want to try their sodas that are flavored like their cupcakes, too! I love the fact it is the first time I have found a cupcake shop that had candles you could buy! How awesome is that?!?! I know I have popped j to places to buy birthday cupcakes and had no candles and no time to stop elsewhere so I def consider that a bonus! I also like that this little gem is tucked I. The cupcakes are colossal! Very large and a good amount of frosting. Their flavor selections were really awesome, I wish I could've tried them all. I opted for half dozen ($22): Red Velvet, Lemon, raspberry Lemon, peanut butter chocolate, fruity pebbles, and strawberry French toast. The cake part was very moist, and the frosting was very buttery and sweet. They're very filling. The staff was friendly. The pink Victorian style couch and chair, cute bicycle, pink walls, and pink hutch with small Victorian style tables make the decor just cute enough for the small space. Checked this place out because my other half was attracted to the decor and the sweets. First off, the cupcakes were massive. They came in a variety of interesting and unique flavors. My husband and I stopped in during our trip to Cleveland. As soon as I walked in, I had very high hopes for this place. The decor is adorable and they had a huge selection of flavors to choose from. However, the dressed up, aesthetically pleasing cupcakes is just a mask for the dry, sugary mess you'll regret later. I chose the strawberry french toast cupcake (cream cheese frosting) and my husband chose the fruity pebble cupcake with buttercream frosting. My cupcake tasted like cinnamon sugar but was dry, not much moisture at all. The funny part was that there was a pea sized dollop of red jelly on top of the cupcake (for the "strawberry" part of this duo-flavored cupcake) but there was NOTHING in the cupcake regarding any strawberry flavor. The frosting was just sugary. My husbands cupcake tasted the same, the cake was dry and the buttercream frosting tasted like chemicals. Honestly if someone told me they used the store bought buttercream frosting (you know, the one that sits on the shelf for a few years full of preservatives) I'd believe it. These were the worst cupcakes I've ever paid for. I am very thankful that I only paid for 6 instead of 12. We ended up tossing all the icing as everything tasted like cherry or cheap gel icing. We didn't order cherry anything. The buttercream and the cream cheese icing both. The cake portion itself was semi ok. I'm not sure what happened but wish we would have read the multiple 1-3 star reviews first. Our next trip to Cleveland will not include this place. My friend and I walked in to grab an lunch treats and a pick me up for myself. #1 we were NOT GREETED by the worker. #2 I saw two super large bags of popcorn on the counter. PROS -Flava flavs. They have so many different cupcake concoctions, it's hard to pick which one I want to eat! One of my favorites here is the Oreo cheesecake cupcake. -Size matters. As their name implies, their cupcakes are colossal. They do usually have some mini cupcakes that come in a pack of 12 or 18 (so you can try all those flavors!) -Cupcake shake. As if the cupcake wasn't good enough, you can make it into a milkshake here! I typically don't get this, but my husband gets it almost every time we go. You can choose vanilla or chocolate ice cream to mix it with (and maybe strawberry, I can't remember!) -Hours of operation. Colossal is there for me when I am craving a cupcake at 8p. And 9p. And 10p. And even (just before) 11p. -Loyalty program. Enter your phone number in for their rewards program and you can get a free cupcake after so many purchases. CONS -Hit or miss (but more hits than misses!). I will say, that not every cupcake I've ever gotten here was the freshest. I've gotten a few dry cupcakes that left me feeling a little 'eh'. Was not a fan and thought maybe it was just the specific flavor. So I came back a second time and tried the carrot cake. I'm a huge carrot cake fan and thought this would be the one. Not even close. The cupcake is moist but it still has a weird texture. The flavor on both were horrendous and the amount of icing overpowers the cupcake. You have to pay to park downtown and there is very little of it with all the roadwork happening. Also, check if the Indians or Cavs are playing. Makes the place super busy! These cupcakes are pretty big which a good bit of icing. I got the white chocolate, raspberry cupcake. The cake was good, a little dry. There was not enough filling to support all the cake so it just got a little lost. The icing was ok. Buttercream with Crisco no butter taste and a thick but light consistency. They were ok, definitely needed more filling. There were three young kids working when I went in. Despite the low rating, I forced my friends to come here when we stopped in Cleveland for lunch this past weekend because PINK. Everything is so pink! Based on the recommendation of the girl behind the counter I chose the confetti cupcake, a choice I'm thrilled with because not only was my cupcake adorable (and colossal!) but it was seriously delicious. The cake was moist and airy and filled with yummy sprinkles and the frosting was super light with a slight strawberry taste. I don't always like cupcakes and I hate overly sugary frosting so I was thrilled when I didn't get a that processed sugar taste from this. This place is very hard to rate in my honest opinion. One day you can come in here and grab a cupcake and it's the most delicious thing you will ever put in your mouth. But then you will come in another week or month and get a cupcake (even the same flavor) and it's mediocre and not so colossal like. A couple months ago my family and I got the usual six pack (I believe it's $22.00 for a six pack) and I prefer chocolate cake over vanilla/yellow. They didn't have a huge variety like some days they do. The cupcakes that night were delicious we had Poppin' Bottles, Cookie Monster, Fruity Pebbles and I believe some sort of a Peppermint flavor. They were delicious, fresh, COLOSSAL size and everything you expect for the price of these cupcakes. However when my sister and I came back a week or so ago and got cupcakes we were disappointed. There wasn't much frosting on any of the cupcakes and the Gluten Free Chocolate cupcake was TINY. For nearly $4 a cupcake (I'm sure it's over $4 if you get one individually) I expect way more than that. They were sloppy and looked like whoever did them were on a Cake Baking show and had only seconds left to finish. This place to me is a gamble. It's either real good or ehhh. So if you have $4 and want to take a risk then I say hey go for it! They also have cookies, milkshakes and some other goodies. You can't miss this place there's a giant cupcake outside! The inside has real cute decor and just makes you feel welcome. However if you are in a wheelchair, use a walker, need a baby stroller etc this is a very difficult place to get in and out of. There are two doors to get inside (and out) and there's no automatic openers which would be extremely helpful this day and age. Every now and then you get a friendly cupcake goer who will be helpful and get the door for you otherwise you're on your own. read more

When walking about Cleveland I was looking for cute and unique places that I could enjoy a treat or at the least take one home to my family. I stumbled upon Colossal Cupcakes, and I had high hopes. Unfortunately, I wasn't really satisfied. When I entered Colossal Cupcakes, the shop was somewhat in shambles the staff was working on different things, so I just accredited it to them setting up in the morning and me arriving right after opening. After standing around for a minute a woman asked if I was ready to order, and I ordered two blondies and two cupcakes. I then sat down for a minute in the appealing looking seating area. One of the best things by far about this shop is the decor. I love the pink throne-like chairs and I think it goes very well with the whole theme of the establishment. Unfortunately, I did not want to sit on the chairs because they look dirty. The upholstery is ripped on the pink sofa, and the pink thorne's seat cushion is discolored. When I got home I tried the blondies and was disappointed. I found that they were more crumbly than moist and were not what I really want in a blondie. While the cupcakes are very large, they were so large that by the time that they come out of the package they are crushed and the aesthetic is ruined. While my little brother enjoyed the cupcake, he did not finish it and because of how ruined it was, he didn't really want to eat it in the first place. While I can not blame them fully for the cupcakes being destroyed, the cupcakes were not great. I would never recommend Colossal Cupcakes... I wanted to have Colossal Cupcakes for dessert at a birthday party. I ordered and pre-paid for 12 cupcakes (4 flavors, 3 each) a week prior to the party. I questioned the worker on how it was possible that this could happen when an order was made a week in advance, she responded with, "Those are popular flavors, we sold out" That response raised more questions and lead me to believe that not only was pre-ordering Colossal Cupcakes pointless, but also that the cupcakes wouldn't be fresh. Two words: cake shake. Cake shakes from Colossal Cupcakes aren't something you can have often...full disclosure, its a complete sugar rush. You can purchase any cupcake and blend it into a delicious milkshake. The shake is really thick, so be prepared to put it in your freezer for leftovers. But if that's not your thing, the cupcakes are equally delicious. But I mean, a girl scout cookie cupcake milkshake? Trust me, it works. I have a special place in my heart for Colossal, because they are often donating proceeds to charity and holding awareness for local causes. The ambience in the bakery is very distinct, and you can't help but love the overly pink walls, regal looking furniture and cursive fonts surrounding you. I have something serious to say: I had a cupcake and did not finish it. Now, I love sugar and adore cupcakes so what could go wrong with me set loose in a cupcake joint? I was meeting my brother in law downtown for dinner and walked past this place. I assumed they were closed because it was desolate. Also worth noting that mid-fun chat while retrieving my sugary goodness the employee didn't wear gloves. Yuck. Isn't that a health code violation? Luckily she seemed to only touch my (nicely oversized) cupcakes' wrappers but still kinda ick. So to the real reason I was there - those cupcakes. I had the salted caramel chocolate to reward myself (since rewarding with sweets is the sign of an awesome health educator) after a deadline. First, they're HUGE. The store name is right. I cut mind into portions. I expected an ooze of caramel filling and was disappointed. More like the bottom of the cake was caramel soaked. Bummer but I can deal. The cake itself tasted a little stale. It was dry and not super chocolate-y, it was rather bland. The frosting tasted a touch gritty, maybe that was the salt? There was a good amount of frosting but the taste was nothing amazing I ended up not finishing the cupcake. I had no desire to try to save it, and I could easily finish it had I enjoyed it. Opening Day. The anticipation. My co-worker had been informing me this place was here. I will justify eating these treats with the walk it takes me to get there from work. We took the walk and couldn't resist. Adorable front window and seating inside. We split the Red Velvet cupcake this afternoon. We got back to work and before I could turn around she had a knife down the middle. I started eating it...could not get enough of the frosting...and then, only after making sure no one was looking, licked the leftover frosting off the wrapper once finished. Awful but sooo worth it.
