Went there for dinner, ambiance was good , not to loud even tho they had live music, I like how in the dinning room it doesn't get over taking by the noise at the bar area. Food was great, all the 3 dishes we had were delicious, overall I think it's a bit overpriced but it's in Colts Neck so I get it. The only that was not up to par was the service, from. The seat down to the end was all slow and not organized, from confusion on what table to get us to appetizers that never came and left overs that got lost. Last year, 2024, we had Christmas dinner at Colts Neck. 5 Star Food, Service and Ambiance. This year, Christmas dinner again. Same good service and ambience. I ordered New York strip sirloin with Bearnaise sauce. It was the toughest piece of meat I have ever tried to eat. I sawed on it with the steak knife until my hand cramped. I thought the knife was dull, but when I finally was able to dislodge a bite sized piece, I chewed until my jaw was tired but was never able to get it down to a swallowable size. The mashed potatoes and bearnaise sauce were delicious, but the steak, though cooked rare as ordered was such a tough piece of meat I was not able to eat even one bite of it. In the grades of beef ranging from Prime, Choice, Standard, Commercial, etc. the piece they gave me was in the "Utility, Cutter/Canner" grade. Here's the scene: internal debate "where to go? MJ's, Osteria, Tre?" Wanted the Harvest Salad at Colts Neck Inn - it's really quite good. So I won, or did I...? Arrived at a not so crowded at all restaurant- front desk staff was nice - I said "can we go sit at the bar?" They said, "of course, go right ahead." we found a booth at the bar, and sat down shortly after a very snooty person named Dana. Stopped by to say that we weren't supposed to be sitting there however, when I told her that we said we were going to be sitting at the bar, she said this is actually the lounge? She then asked how many we were even though evidently we were three and provided us with menus. I found her completely offputting, especially considering that even the lounge was not busy. Moving on, the waitress then came up and we ordered drinks, she told us the specials, and went away and came back with the drinks and then we were ready to order them. My mother ordered the Greek salad with chicken. The waitress was like there's an up charge for the chicken... Duh, I didn't need her to tell me that. Then my husband asked for the chicken mayonnaise, but instead of the usual salad if you could substitute that for the Greek salad on top. The second used to make a dish called the Greek chicken, which was basically the chicken cutlet with the Greek salad on top. Since a Greek salad was on the menu, we didn't think that was a big issue, but apparently it was because this really freaked out the waitress and she had to go get approval to make this substitution. Then she came back and let us know that it was a $10 up charge what I thought was totally egregious. I of course, got the harvest salad. Something is just not quite right at the Colts neck Inn. The renovation, was mediocre, but the food did get better. The staffing however, is really lacking in the customer service. We were so accustomed to when JP was the manager. I have really tried to give this restaurant a second, and third chance because it's local and we literally live a half a mile from this place, but the service sucks, the management sucks and it doesn't matter how good the food is when you don't feel welcome or you're not in an environment of yes, as a person who spends three figures at this restaurant it's not somewhere I want to continue to invest. I have been going to Colts Neck Inn for more than 20 years. I have always enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. I was looking forward to enjoy it again, but I was highly disappointed by the food which was not prepared properly. It was salty past the point of normal seasoning to the point that I could not eat any portion of the plate. The octopus was so rubbery that it was hard to chew and swallow and it was tasteless. As I said the green olives in my Martini were not what olives should taste like. Even the replacements I asked for were the same and kept me from finishing the drink. Time for a Colts Neck Inn update! We enjoyed a nice dinner for 3 this past Wednesday evening. Vinny was our server and he not only provided outstanding service, but he also had great suggestions for a nice family style dinner. We shared a 32 oz strip steak and caesar salad for 3. What a nice platter he made and went out of his way to make sure we had a great meal. Food was very good and since you may also find Vinny as the bartender on other days, he made sure our beverages were always full. Great evening and we will definitely be back. Host was very gracious and our waitress was good. When we sat down we were told appetizers and drinks were half off until 6pm for happy hour. As you can see from my receipt it's actually 40% off not 50%. Very misleading. I wanted to add chicken to my caprese grilled cheese and the waitress came back and said it was $26. It would be the most expensive sandwich on the menu (even more than steak) but that was fine. When the receipt arrived it was $10 extra not $6.00. I brought it to her attention and she took off $2.00 more so now a $28 grilled cheese with chicken. We could not talk to each other and we left without finishing our dessert and with a major migraine. The owners obviously can't decide if they want an expensive, nice steakhouse with a quiet ambiance or a super loud bar with a hard rock band. Can't have both. Visited with family for the Thanksgiving dinner this year. After getting over a little confusion on whether we were ordering from the menu or the set menu, all went well. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Monmouth county! The ambiance the employees the food is outstanding! Originally a tavern from the 1700, the history and charm is obvious throughout the restaurant! They have a happy hour from 4:00 to 6:00 Monday through Friday which is an extra perk! Sorry for the late review. I received a new phone for Christmas so I had to redownload the app. About Three weeks ago My husband Matt and I decided to have dinner with a few friends of ours. We had previously been to the establishment prior to the renovation. I have to say thankfully we gave the restaurant another chance. We started off our evening at the bar waiting on our guests. Very busy but yet efficient. Once our friends arrived we were seated. Service was impeccable. We had not one but two fabulous servers. Monica and Brian were professional and we felt completely at ease. Highly impressed with their ability to be comical yet they took care of our every need and answered our girlfriends multiple questions since her husband has so many dietary restrictions. Food was amazing, the decor is beautiful. Our dinner was fantastic. My one and only complaint was upon leaving we visited the lavatory and witnessed a Chinese waitress chugging a cocktail down extremely quickly. It was very unprofessional and extremely unladylike. I assumed she was doing that because she had been spotted by not only us but the same barmaid, who waited on us originally when we first arrived, she even rolled her eyes at her in disgust as well. Thank goodness she was not our server. Can you imagine, there's no way she would have been able to get our order correct with the way she was drinking. I'm sure the owner is not aware of that issue and I hope this sheds some light on the staff they have. The wonderful.... and the not so wonderful. I didn't let her be the reason to take away any stars. Such a shame to see that because up until our departure we had a perfect evening. From the reception we received upon entering and being seated, to the attentive staff and tasty, well prepared drinks and meals. We will be returning as it's not easy to find good restaurants. We were only in the area for a night so we naturally had to check out this restaurant since it was right next to our hotel. I'll start by saying make a reservation by calling them directly and do not use google to book it bc they never got ours when I did it that way. Luckily we got there early enough where they still had room for us before people started to pack in due to the band playing that night. They were a little short staffed so our poor server was being pulled every which way but we still got amazing service from her despite how busy and shot handed they were. The food was amazing. Everything we got was absolutely perfect. Also I'm not sure if this was normal or if it was due to the short staffness at the time but our time spent for the whole meal was over 2hrs. I've never experienced that going out and honestly it was very nice. Usually when going out your always being rushed out the door so the next table can be seated and we didn't get that which we very much enjoyed. We spent time talking and watching the band get set up, had time to enjoy our drinks and appetizers we ordered which everything came out in perfect timing. By the time we actually finished one thing the next was already coming out so we didn't have a table full of food just to get it on the table. We were able to enjoy everything at it's perfect temperature when they came out. The prices were reasonable for what we were getting and over all it was a really great night. We already have plans to go here again when we come back to the area next year for our anniversary. Also the ambiance of the restaurant was great. It has a nice bar area as well as a dinning area. We were sat at a booth by the bar and it was perfect. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better seat than we got. The steaks were good, but I felt not up to par for the price charged - included too much fat, and I've had better elsewhere. Came here for Mother's Day brunch. I was greeted in the parking lot by an extremely foul smell of what appeared to be sewage. It really was a turn off prior to entering the restaurant as it made me think about what the condition of the kitchen. The smell was so foul that it followed me Inside and was hard to shrug off even as I made my way to the dining hall. There wasn't much of a selection from the buffet and the food did not appear to be fresh. They had a mix of breakfast items and lunch items. The place appeared to be outdated and could use some updating in the main area where the bar is located and also in the area where the hall is located. I tried the powdered eggs which were bland I also have the potatoes which were also lacking of any seasoning. I really tried to make my best effort to enjoy the experience, outside of the attentive waiting staff the food was just sub par. I can honestly say I couldn't pull myself together to recommend anyone to eat here unless things are updated and the food improves. read more
