Went for dinner for Cinco De Mayo. There were 6 of us and went for an early dinner. Our waiter was very good and he explained the special menu to us for May 5th. Some of us started off with their special Margarita which to my surprise was filled to the brim for their $5.00 price. It was soooo tasty that I could not have a second I had their blackened shrimp taco that was flavorful and very fresh. My husband had a Hugh salad with grilled chicken and was very tender. Others had the taco bowl salad, a Burrito, and fajitas. We all left with our bellies full. The ambiance is always lovely as their dinning faces the golf course, with large floor to ceiling windows where you have a beautiful view. I have been dining here for many years. I'm not sure if the management has changed hands, but the food and the service are not what they were. As a celiac, I am still able to get a gluten free bun, for an additional cost, but the kitchen, today, would not "pan fry" French fries for me. This has always been done in the past. So, I was charged for a baked potato, since there were no other options for me. There were only 2 other small tables occupied when this request was made. The burger meat has changed, as well as the size of the burger. Today's burger was tasteless and very small. I did request my burger medium, with pink, but this burger was charred and looked more like a hockey puck. The salads were not as filled as they used to be. If you have food allergies, find someplace else to eat. read more

Had dinner there last evening, service is terrible!! Hostess & waitress too busy on phones to courteously manage the customers. Restaurant had two tables,one waitress who needs some remedial training in customer service. The hostess sat at her podium using her cell phone the entire hour in the restaurant. The Sycamore Grille is such a hidden gem in Manalapan. There aren't too many dining options around (or maybe I'm just spoiled coming from JC?) but in any case, am super glad that I decided to check this out. The restaurant is located on the Knob Hill Golf Course. There is a large outdoor seating section that overlooks the course which makes this the perfect pick for an outdoor summer lunch. Lunch menu has got all of the classics - wings, pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and salads. Plus a full bar menu with a decent amount of selection. Only thing that we thought was a strange was that the drink menu didn't have pricing. For lunch my parents and I split an order of sliders and a pizza. The sliders came with three and a side of fries. In my opinion the burger was just okay - sort of dry and not super flavorful. I did really like the garlic aioli and the sweet potato fries though. Pizza was top notch. I love a thin bar pie with a ton of cheese and this really delivered. I also loved how the peppers and olives weren't just standard - the pie was topped with roasted peppers and kalamata olives. We had to convince my Dad to put olives on the pizza and now he is a believer. I washed everything down with a cold Blue Moon. I really wanted to try the in-house Knob Hill brew, but the waitress warned me that it was a little bitter. Still cool that they have an in house beer though. They also have various dinner specials like pasta night, burger night and wine night, just no specials at lunch. Next time I'll have to venture back during dinner to check it out! read more

Well it was freezing in the establishment I asked the bartender if the door could be closed because I was freezing he said sorry covid rules wear a warmer clothes. Not I'm sort we want to maximize our business or we could turn the heat up. The wait staff took forever and when called to ask to change our reservation they said they were packed; not true lest the 25 percent to capacity . This once was a great place to eat then they changed chefs. A downgrade in my opinion. Burgers are still eh, decent. However, they somehow managed to kill the classic french fry by using some flour-dipped version. I got an over ripe brown avocado slice on my turkey burger more than once. Chicken dish we ordered was a dry chicken thigh (if thats possible) dressed in some julienne sliced peppers, spinach was smothered in garlic and amateurishly prepared. Salads have shrunk in size to "look fancy"-- but lack imagination or any elegant simplicity. Vegetarian choices were downgraded -- They swapped out their amazing portobello club for a buffalo cauliflower wrap that is clearly not prepared by someone who is plant-based. The fish taco was a non-event. Since the switch haven't been wowed by anything here. But don't believe me. Go try for yourself. read more

Came here on Friday night to catch a quick dinner with friends at 5:45 p.m. which was probably the perfect time. It seems that the menu has changed and probably for the better because the entrees are now limited to maybe five and the kitchen can get the meals out much quicker. I had the southwestern salad and added a grilled salmon to it. It was extremely flavorful and delicious. My friends had the hamburger with a side salad and french fries. It was a huge portion. The venue is clean and comfortable, and there are TVs all about so you can watch the current game. Also there is a bar . Outside seating on the porch is available too. The staff is pleasant and experienced and we enjoy having dinner here. There is a private parking area and ramps for handicapped people. I wasn't sure what to expect from Sycamore grille. It is a little confusing to get to since there really isn't a sign to the place. It is located inside the clubhouse of the golf course. I wouldnt have found it unless I asked someone working there. This is a small place with a bar area and a few tables. The decor is older and it is what you would expect in a lunch spot that is in a golf clubhouse. They have a nice big tv in the dining area which is always a plus. That being said the food was pretty good. I was kind of suprised honestly. We started with the nachos and although they were standard nachos with all the fixings I thought they were good. For lunch I had the prime rib grilled cheese which was extremely heavy and lucious but hit the spot. If you are watching your cholesterol do not order this. It had a horseradish sauce on it as well that made it messy and delicious. My wife ordered the reuben and it was also pretty good. Again, this isnt a healthy item by any items but if you are having a cheat day definitely order it. Overall, Sycamore Grille was a pleasant surprise. If you can find if you will be pleasantly suprised by the quality of the food. I wouldn't bring anyone on a date here but if I wanted a good hearty lunch it is the place to be. read more

Had the pepperoni & sausage flatbread again. It was undercooked, but I was too hungry to sent it back. It was smaller and more expensive than last time. If you have to raise prices fine, but don't do that and shrink the portion at the sametime. To me that's deceptive. Also, I enjoyed my meal, but there are very few options that appeal to me on the menu. And it always takes a little too long to get the check. Let me start off by saying the food here is AMAZING! Never a bad meal and never had a complaint from any of the guests we've taken here. My mediocre review is due to the new female manager, who looks like she's fresh out of high school and acts like this is her first job in the service industry. She's rude, incompetent, and comes off as entitled. Instead of diffusing situations, as a manager should, she makes them worse. Even the staff seems put off by her. It also seems that since she's been here, there are new rules that never applied before. We received a 10% off coupon code directly from the restaurant, and she refused to honor it, saying "it only applies to DoorDash orders". Umm, what?! We downgraded from dining in to just ordering to go because of her, but when we called to place an order, we asked a question and were hung up on. We love the food here, but due to one too many bad experiences with this individual, we won't be back. read more

Went to the the Sycamore Grille at Knob Hill Golf Club the other day with my wife and son. Prices are reasonable but this time the wife had a coupon from restaurants.com so we got a pretty good discount too. We've eaten at the Grille many times in the past. The food is, in our opinion, always better than okay but usually not as good as it get though sometime it has been. The portions are pretty good too. They regularly change the menu so you will see new dishes from time to time. The indoor area is a sport bar type atmosphere. I have always loved coming here since it's 5 minutes from my home. I believe they recently changed chefs or the menu , as per my waiter. We were there last week and The food was disgusting. My go to is the cruciferous salad. Healthy chunks of cauliflower , broccoli , lettuce , beans. This time is was microwaved soggy veggies and topped off by an old piece of rotisserie chicken that was so dried out. ( I asked for grillled chicken ) They also used to have an extensive wine list by the glass. Not anymore. We had to order a full Bottle , ( not complaining ). The Sycamore Grille at knob hill country club is one of my parents favorites. Ive dined with them a few times and last night was one of those times. Food: I ordered the French dip. The sandwich was great all around. It was absolutely loaded with tender steak and caramelized onions. Paired with a delicious dipping sauce of au jus and horseradish. Along with the sandwich were crispy sweet potato fries. I haven't had sweet potato fries better than here, very ordinary, but ask for them well done and you'll be pleasantly surprised. 4/5 Service: the servers and bar tenders at the sycamore grille are good at their jobs. My drink is never empty and I never had a burning question they couldn't answer. My favorite is Matt, he is one of the managers and he is great. Always there to help and fun and easy to talk to. He earns the sycamore grille a 5 for this category: 5/5 Location: I love the setting of the Sycamore Grille. The outside of the country club is spectacular. My favorite feature is the huge tree near the golf course (this is the logo of the club). The ambiance inside the restaurant is homey and classy. This is an update of a previous review. I have been coming here for years and always completely satisfied. Recently attended the Thanksgiving Buffet and let me tell you could not get better anywhere else. I find Sycamore Grille to be quite consistent with both food and service. The buffet seating was in their large (sleek not glitsy) dining room. The food selection and service were outstanding. I only wish Yelp would change their review ratings to 3 parts. Food, Service, and Ambiance which would do a more complete job of describing restaurants. By the way, I did not see any reviews for banquets in this restaurant. I do notice some people like to complain about trivial things. I certainly, fully appreciate a professionally managed restaurant of this caliber in my area. read more

We have stuck with this place as residents of knob hill for years and years. We supported you during Covid by taking out once a week. Our last two visits have been disasters. A month ago, food took over a most an hour and a half to finally reach our table. We knew it might be slow and to be fair: the host brought over a round of drinks on the house. This past weekend we were seated. We sat for fifteen minutes while our waiter ignored us. Another staffer asked us if we would like water: and ten minutes later: we we were still sitting there. We went back here again last night as I had a Restaurant.com coupon and they seemed to have good Oktoberfest specials. We got there around 6:30 and we were put on a waiting list. Luckily we were seated within about 20 minutes. They seemed to be understaffed. Even the manager was running food. This place is a bit hard to find, and most of the patrons are older residents of the community. The manager and wait staff treat the regulars very well. Not saying they don't treat us well, but you get the picture. The waiter stopped by to take our drink orders and I asked him what kind of craft beer do they have. He didn't know what kinds of craft beer they carried. I say ok, I will have a Sam Adams Octoberfest. He says they just ran out of it!! So he recommends a Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin Ale, and I go for it. When it is time to order food, he addresses me as "boss". Boss? Really?? I have been addressed as "hon" at diners and "sir" at restaurants. So where would someone call your patron "boss?" Anyway, food was taking a bit long so I asked for some bread. They ran out of bread as well!! I was hoping they ran out of Guest checks by the time we were done with dinner!! Anyway, food is always good. We ordered the Rock Shrimp Appetizer, the Chicken Scarpariello and the Oktoberfest special, which was Brats with Spätzle, sauerkraut and red cabbage. The black forest cake was devoured by my wife and kids, and it was light and good.The Ambiance (if you are okay with local oldies hanging out) is good. The place is a bit hard to find and is not really well located, unless you are going somewhere on NJ 33. My girlfriend and I are visiting the Sycamore Grille again simply because of the stellar service by their server Bill. The food is also consistently delicious with generous portions. We have both raved to family and friends on multiple occasions and highly recommended this restaurant. The responses have all been excellent. Bill is very personable and accommodating. He makes dining here a pleasure. He's honestly one of the best servers we've come across while dining out. We look forward to our next visit very soon. read more

I am utterly disappointed. I came in expecting a 4 starred service but received one star service. I felt unwelcomed and dissatisfied. My waiter, Bill, gave me a sense of attitude and comments of unnecessary sarcasm. His comments were unfriendly. I gave him respect, hoping for some in return. Not only did his comments and attitude turn me off, but he was kicking around a fork that fell, instead of picking it up. Insanely unhygienic. Never catch me coming back here. This place is a nice quiet little restaurant in the Knob Hill community. Been here quite a few times (especially when feeling lazy and not wanting to cook at home). The food is pretty good and reasonably priced. They have specials a couple nights a week. Their burgers are very good, and half price pizza on Tuesdays are also well worth the price. The service is where I would say this little place is luck of the draw. A couple times I've had great service, while other times I had lousy. Definitely not the quickest restaurant, and there's usually an older crowd but that won't stop me from returning. read more

I had my first dining experience here and it was absolutely amazing from the second we walked in the door. We did not have any reservations, and the restaurant was full (or reserved to be full), the staff pulled a table from another room and set it up for us, instead of having us wait (which we were willing to do)! 4 of us went Thursday evening for a Birthday Dinner. When told of a Birthday in the crowd, they could have cared less. We were seated and a waiter took or water requests. We got our waters as requested but no menus to order from. Had to ask another waiter for menus. We ordered - the original waiter remembered everyone's order including a couple of alcoholic drinks but forgot to include one of the attendees what they would like to drink from the bar. Their beer selection has gone from good to mediocre. No more dark beers on tap. One I asked for was in bottles - was on tap last time we were there. Got a special IPA that was "good" and a waiter's recommendation. First few sips ok - after that - not good and I didn't finish it. Another person had a glass of wine that turned out to be a very sweet rose - not appropriate for her dinner or any dinner. Our appetizers came in shifts - not sure why - a few mins apart. One of the onion soups was burned on top. The second waiter asked if we had asked for it to be "well done". We said no and rather than offering to make it again it, they offered a choice of a house or Caesar salad. I took a taste of the Caesar salad and Ruby Tuesday makes a better Caesar Salad than this one. My soup, which was supposed to be corn and clam chowder was watery with little flavor. They must have run out of cream when making it. I told a second waiter that it was not good - he said, no problem, it comes with the dinner, so there was no extra charge for a bad soup - no sorry, no offer to replace it - and the soup was an upcharge to dinner items - he just didn't want to be bothered bringing back another soup to the kitchen. Main meals came in shifts also - seems like they can only bring out 2 of anything at a time. My Turkey Burger was thin and cooked well - pretty dry - not much flavor. There was a sauce on the roll - what a surprise as I had asked for spicy mustard and relish. They had spicy mustard but no relish and they didn't bother to tell me there was already some sort of dressing on the turkey burger so I could have elected to have it left off. Roll huge, lettuce, onion and tomato appropriate. But no relish. To top it all off - the restaurant wasn't busy. We were here some time ago and everything was super - that's why we came back! A big disappointment for food quality, delivery, general attentiveness, customer consideration and lack of anything other than IPA's on tap. I used to be able to get a split of champagne there - no more!! I asked about one of the appetizers - looked different than I remembered... waiter said should be the same. First of all let me start off by saying that I never write reviews. In fact this is my first ever on any food establishment ratings site, but I just can't keep quiet about this one. It started out so promising, thought we had found a nice hidden gem nearby. The ambience was very nice, but after quickly being seated, receiving waters and being asked if we needed any other drinks by the host, which we did not immediately order any additional drinks at that moment, it then took 20 minutes for a waiter to finally come by and at least ask if we were ready to order apps or entrees, of course no intro or welcome, still don't know his name. One of my kids had the kid's grilled cheese which came out over done/buttered/griddled/toasted, but still edible overall and decently sized. My other kid ordered the kid's cheeseburger sliders which appeared to be satisfactory as he ate them with no complaints. I ordered a corn and clam chowder which was plentiful in size and plentiful in clams bits, above average overall. Thought we were doing OK....until our bar pie came out and the cheese was hardly melted. It was already cut in slices, but the cheese had reconstituted itself into one merged cheese blob and it needed to be cut again so I did so. As I went to cut it, all of the cheese danced all over the crust which was basically a pre-made dough with grill marks both on the inside under the tomato sauce and cheese and on the underside (never seen that before in my life) but was not crispy at all, under done all around. As for the entrées, my wife ordered the skirt steak which came out looking OK with proper grill marks and coloring overall, despite the fact that the accompanying loaded sweet potato was completely burnt on the top and there was an overpowering smell of char which we attributed to the potato. She went ahead and scooped off the burnt marshmallows and skin and proceeded to taste the sweet potato which was average at best. However, then came time to taste the steak. Without telling me a word about how she felt about it or leaning one way or the other with body language, she proceeded to ask me to taste a piece. As I bit and chewed it twice, I immediately reached in with my fingers and pulled out onto my plate. It was completely inedible tasting like purely charred beef grizzle mixed with lighter fluid and cooking fuel. We sent it back and she did not order anything else. The waiter took it back to the manager Jason and came back to us confirming that Jason "ripped off a piece, tasted it and said that she was right that it was definitely not edible". Jason, the manager, himself never came out to acknowledge or apologize, much less attempt make any reparations for it. My wife declined ordering anything further as she was pretty disgusted at this point. The final kicker was being charged $1.95 for the side salad that she ate which came with her meal, which was part of the price of the meal.....who does that? Insult to injury in my book plus complete lack of respect. We are completely done with this place unfortunately. First time and last time. read more

This is my first visit and they were unable to satisfy my most basic requirements. Bringing our order to the table the way requested. The burger was good but they did not follow directions that's why they got 2 stars 1. We ordered 2 burgers neither burger ordered was correct? 2. My napkin which was folded nice when opened had bad stains. Disturbing 3. The food is always great and the prices are reasonable. However, the real reason to come is the staff. I have to compliment Bill, whose winning smile under that jaunty mustache lets you know you are in for a great evening as he pays attention to the smallest detail. I typically frequent the Sycamore Grille after a round of golf, but tonight I decided to give it a try for dinner. We had an italian flatbread as an appetizer, which was outstanding! My wife had a lobster roll and I had the cedar plank salmon. While I thought the salmon was very good, the lobster roll was definitely the star of the show. It was the biggest lobster roll I've ever seen and it was every bit as delicious as it looked. My only regret was that we forgot to save room for dessert! The service was good although we did have to wait a bit for our meals to come out, however, it was also a very busy night. We will certainly be back again, perhaps for the pasta special our server suggested we try. All in all, a pleasant experience. read more
