Absolutely disgusting experience. I came in to heat up my food and was told I couldn't use the microwave. Minutes later, a white customer was allowed to do the exact same thing without any problem. I got a flat tire on my way back home the other night and was in a jam. It was late at night with my daughter and two granddaughters and the air in my tire dropped fast. I stopped at the Shell gas station in Placerville and was helped by Michael and the other man (never got his name) working there. They both changed my tire out of the goodness of their hearts. We were in need to find a station to gas up at on our way to Sierra-at-Tahoe and we couldn't remember where we would gas up on our route. So just for mere convenience this Shell station is right off of 50 as you enter Placerville. They do have a restroom that wasn't too shabby. The person working there felt a little weird, but friendly enough. The only thing is that if you're willing to drive a bit more, the prices for gas is a whole lot cheaper. So next time we'll go to the 76 at Silver Fork as it was much cheaper and is literally beside Highway 50. read more

I'm an still in shock of what happened yesterday. If i could give zero stars i would. 2 of my besties and I stopped to get gas and water and to use the restroom on our way back from a weekend away. These trips maybe happen once every year and a half or so. They went in ahead of me to use the bathroom while I got the gas pumping. Went in, grabbed a few water bottles, and stood in line to pay. As my bestie was coming out of the bathroom, she held the door for our other friend, who was finishing drying her hands with the hand dryer blower thing on the wall, you could hear it blowing. A man, who I'm going to assume was the manager, turned and literally yelled (yelled loudly and extremely aggressively) at my friend to shut the door. As he yells, our other friend comes out of the door she's holding open. I could tell they were both very taken aback and shocked by his aggressive tone. I ask him not so nicely if he really just yelled at her for holding the door open for our friend and if that means he's saying we aren't allowed to hold the door for others? And he said yes! That we aren't allowed to hold the door open! My friend that held the door told him how rude he was, and that he needed to learn some manners and also needed to learn when to just shut up. I do not recommend this establishment for any basic needs and would suggest you keep driving a little further down or up 50 to the next set of gas stations. Their gas is way too expensive anyway. read more

One of my favorite gas station is the area. I love going to this shell station, it's on my way to work, their prices are few cents higher than the other stations but the customer service beats it and worth the extra few cents. Every morning I buy, gas, coffee and snacks for my drive to work. I agree with another yelper, wish they had a bigger selection of fresh/hot food. Employees are always nice and have smile on their face. Food Mart/ inside of store is small but seems to have everything. They also have greener fuels like E85 flexfuel gasoline and HPR diesel. May be you guys should read what customer service is, according to Wikipedia, "Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase"... and none of you purchased or were going to purchase something. It's funny how most of you failed to read signs they have on their windows, reads "No Public Restroom" and inside the store, "Restrooms for Paying Customers Only" instead got mad the attendant I'm not picking side but believe your review should reflect a "customer" experience. Can you imagine leaving 1 star review for five star Restaurant / Hotels, just because they are expensive or out of your reach. PROS: excellent customer service Easy access off highway 50 Right on the Historic Main st when you getting in town Cons: No Hot food & breakfast selection (donuts would be nice) No Icee / slushes No Service / Repair shop at times it feels little crowded inside, especially on the weekends. Wow I had to give a review because we popped in to use the restroom and maybe grab a drink/snack, but the employee berated us right after exiting the restroom, it was bizarre and totally out of line. He went off and was incredibly unprofessional, any desire to buy even a small item disappeared. AVOID this station no matter what, don't give business to someone who has zero respect for others! This gas station has plenty of snack & drink selections, a working/clean restroom, fair prices and great service. I stopped elsewhere and was forced to leave and find another station, since the restroom was out of service at the other gas station in town. I am Halfway to my 5 hour drive destination, stopping in Placerville- at Shell. I need gas and to stretch my legs etc. As I turned off my car, I heard an employee, Jon, adamantly saying "please leave my property NOW" several times. He was being firm, yet polite to an irate vagrant that had a stick in his hand and was waving it at people. Jon followed through, making sure the guy left the property. I felt he had full command of the situation, which couldve escalated had Jon not handled it so professionally. I found their prices fair, and the restroom was clean and even smelled fresh. Because I was a bit shaken up, I talked with Jon a bit, and he reassured me, and then walked me back outside to my car once I was finished. This was beyond the call of duty, and helped me feel safe. This is a review for the mart at Shell, not the service station. It is right off the 50 in Placerville. On our way up, we got worried that chains would be necessary, so we stopped off to check out where we could get them. 2 stars for the guy who was helpful and looked at our tires to check what type of tire chain we needed. 2 stars also because he tried to rip us off. He mumbled the price REALLY fast as he walked back with it to the counter. Us: how much is it? Him: eightynineninetynine. Me: what?? did you say 89.99? Him: yes, it has to be this one for your big tire. We always stop here to fill up the tank and use the bathroom. The bathrooms are usually clean. Up until this last time. The toilet seat in the women's room was wobbly/broken. And the floor was very wet. EWW! The staff said there was a ton of people using them. I always buy something from here to snack on during the rest of the drive. Don't get the chicken and cheese Big Az burger. It's gross! I wish they had a bigger selection of fresh/microwave food. But they don't. They only have the 2 kinds of Big Az burgers and 2 kinds of burritos. The staff is always nice here. I guess they're used to everyone coming in to use the bathrooms. read more

Access to this Shell can get tricky depending on the day and time you get here. Placerville has a pretty antiquated stop sign and street light system at the intersection of several surface streets and US-50. Take your time getting in and out of here as the road is curved and not all directions stop at all intersections. Bathrooms and food-mart could be upgraded. Gas prices here are about $0.10-$0.25 per gallon higher than in the valley. read more

Holy sh*t! Do NOT come here! My sister and I popped in to use the restroom, and asked the attendant if it was in the back. He replied with, "are you a customer?"... "Uhhm. Yes?" "You buy something first, then you can use the bathroom." What. My sister replied with, "I'll use the bathroom, then buy something on the way out." This is where sh*t got real. His reply? "No, no! I told him I was a woman traveling alone with 2 children. He still would not let me in and I confirmed in my phone is was not yet 10pm. I had come here, fully expecting to be the only person to leave a terrible review, but needless to say, I am not surprised. In the past, I would visit this gas station to fill up during my trek from San Francisco to South Lake Tahoe. Sure, they might be a bit more expensive, but I suppose that is the price of convenience. However, the people who work there are terrible people. Last week I was looking for parking and had found a spot by their building, but also away from their pumps and so I decided to park there and eat at Buttercup Pantry across the street. Check it out if you are in the area. The food there is great! Anyways, after eating, I get back to my car and instantly notice that my drivers door has been keyed. Immediately after seeing that, an Indian man, the attendant at the station walks out and tells me that I am parked on private property and is lucky that he did not have my car towed. I look up and see that there is no signs anywhere indicating private property. Unfortunately, I do not have facts, just assumptions, but I believe that it was him who came up and keyed my vehicle and had nothing better to do but to watch my car and see my reaction to his crime. It could not have been the owner of the car next to me as it was the same as the one when I had parked. I also did not park in some way to obstruct others. If I were to ask for security footage, he would most likely decline or erase evidence because he was at fault and I was "trespassing". This service station employs terrible people. You don't have to take my word for it, but there are other reviews that state the same thing. It will probably be in your best interest to take your money elsewhere. read more

This place is horrible . Was traveling from out of town and stopped to use the restroom. From the minute I walked in , the employee working had a major attitude . Never met such a rude gas station employee! Even basic customer service was non-existent. I badly needed to use the restroom and I did see the sign that says "No Public Restroom" but I still went in having an intention to purchase after I used the restroom. I asked the employee and he said restroom is for paying customers only so I said okay we will get gas. At this point, I was walking towards the restroom as I badly needed to go. He yells at me and says he already said its only for paying customers. I said "yes, I told you we will get gas but I need to use the restroom first". He said no! I was so shocked but still went out to my husband who was waiting in the van and told him to go get gas since the guy does not believe me. Another car was blocking his way but he was driving towards the station. I go back into the store and the guy tells me again to get the gas first before I use the restroom! UNBELIEVABLE!!! I said my husband is going to load gas now! I was also losing my temper and said he has serious trust issues. Then he calls me a "bitch" and asked he me to leave the store, and kept calling me names! I would have bought stuff from the store but my wallet was in the car and badly needed to use the restroom. Never go to this store unless you are ready for this kind of behavior! BUYER BEWARE!!! What is wrong with this place charging over $1.00 more per gallon than every other station within town.
