The barbequed ribs were tender. I didn't enjoy the homemade barbecue sauce. There was way too much vinegar in the recipe.

Great family BBQ spot in Middletown. Friend of my let me in on it. Pulled pork is spot on, ribs beat Montgomery Inn by miles. Fall off the bone meaty goodness. Maybe the best I've had. The sides are really good as well. The potato salad is on point, the mac and cheese is tasty, corn bread is on the small side but is delicious. Only real upside is the cost. You can get a sandwich and two sides for about nine bucks. Don't understand why it's scored so high. It's definitely "northern" BBQ. Pork was flavorless and stringy. Mac and cheese was ok. Beans were soupy and sweet. Depending on the style of bbq, people argue that the meat or sauce flavor is most important. This place falls flat on both fronts. Decided on the pulled pork sammich, with a side of mac n cheese, and the jalapeño cornbread. The pork was good and gave you a pile on top of your bun, just a little of the house sauce (I added more). The mac n cheese was bomb.com, absolutely inhaled it. The jalapeño corn bread, was different. I'm not a fan of real spicy things, so I was a bit cautious to try it, but it was good. Weird combinations work! They also serve beer, score!! What goes better than BBQ and beer. Altogether, was a good eat, and the service was awesome! Went there when they first opened and loved the place. I agreed with the reviews. I went there again for ribs and was not impressed. They seemed like they were boiled and then sauced. They were very busy and thought maybe they ran out and had to do some fast to meet customer demands. Since then I tried it again with the same outcome. No smoke ring or flavor. I'd read rave reviews of Combs, so we decided to give it a try for our anniversary. We each had 1/2 slab of ribs, mac and cheese, and jalapeño corn bread. This is an order at counter, sit and be served style service. The atmosphere is super casual with lots of vintage decor to check out. The restaurant itself is quite small and cozy, and has an additional patio dining area.Restrooms were clean and well taken care of. Our food was brought to our table surprisingly quickly. The ribs were superb. Hot, tender, moist and swimming in an appropriate amount of sauce. The meat pulled off the bones easily while still maintaining some body. Rib perfection. The mac and cheese was OK. Over cooked pasta swimming in cheesy, creamy sauce... every kid will love it. The jalapeño corn bread was the biggest surprise. The taste was flat and the bread itself dry and crumbly. Jalapeño taste was non-existent. A huge disappointment since the corn bread counts as one of your two sides. I'll pass on it next time. The staff was warm and friendly, the service fast, the atmosphere interesting and the ribs perfectly cooked. One star off for the sides. We'll definitely try again. read more

There was a lot of food. This place has the best barbecue in the area. I have told many people about this place and to check it out. I have not ate there yet, but I will be soon. I only had take out. I regularly go to Combs and have NEVER been let down! Reading through some other reviews I can't help but wonder what's wrong with the taste buds of anyone that had anything negative to say. Combs is hands down the best BBQ you can get anywhere around! I've been to many places for bbq. It's pretty well tied with Logans for ribs and just above Smokey Bones for pulled pork. I love that Combs offers multiple types of sauce to suit the needs of each individual. I like to mix the sweet and the spicy one together. Their meats have a delicious smokey flavor, super tender, fall off the bone, juicy quality! Highly recommend the pulled pork AND the ribs. I've never had the brisket, but my brother has said it's really good too. I have yet to try their chicken as I can't pull myself away from the pork lol. It's too good to pass up! I always get the mac&cheese which is thick & creamy with a delightful cheesy flavor... the baked beans which are a match made in heaven along with their pork - they seem to be specifically flavor profiled to match & the meal is simply not complete without the pairing for me... and I have to add on that 3rd side to get a piece of their jalapeno cornbread! which is slightly spicy with that delicious down-home cornbread flavor that goes with any meal you might choose from Combs! I highly recommend this location for any BBQ fan. I can't imagine even the pickiest eater (such as my boyfriend) not absolutely loving this place (He really loves it!). Great place. It's kinda small, but it has a patio area to allow for more seating options. Food is pretty standard fare for a BBQ spot. I was little disappointed in offerings, but I'm willing to overlook that given that they used to operate as a food truck. I am confident that as they find their footing in a permanent building, and learn their new environment, that could very well change. Get there early, though, because they do tend to run out of food. When my wife and I went, we wanted to try their Scalloped Potatoes. Sadly, at 4:30pm on a Saturday, they were out. Less than an hour later, they were out of Chicken. I am encouraged by this place, and really hope they can overcome these minor setbacks. The food is great! read more

But! personally i like more smoke. the ribs were done well but lacked flavor in my estimation. i have some definite preferences and don't want to be unfair. the Carolina style sauce was very good. i thought the others were too sweet. jalapeño corn bread was good. beans were plain. they have beer and wine. if your in the neighborhood you should try it. read more

Terrific BBQ, absolutely the best in the area. I don't know how Middletown got so lucky. The ribs are as well done as you can ask for. The beef brisket is top notch. Sauces are very good. Of the sides I've had so far, baked beans are excellent. Cole slaw is OK. No fountain service or bar, so soft drinks and beer is in cans and bottles. Small place, seats maybe 30 tops. They make limited quantities during the day, so there's a chance they will run out of something. That's actually good, as it means they aren't rushing food prep. Go early. Keep an eye on their Facebook page, as they will occasionally announce specials there. Top notch recommendation. read more

Long story short I can't review what I couldn't order. I arrived at 7:30pm on Saturday 5/21/16 and tried to order the "Family Packing" and was told they don't offer that and the website is "wrong". I was told in succession the website was hacked, that the info wasn't authorized and they just don't do that. The ribs were sold out so I tried to order a pound of brisket. I was told they couldn't sell by the pound cause they were almost out. So I tried to order the pulled pork. They wouldn't sell me that either. In short don't drive there from any distance expecting to be served. Call ahead and make sure they aren't out before you leave home. And do NOT depend upon the menu on Yelp expecting to order from it. This may well be amazing barbecue but it's run with the professionalism of a lemonade stand. I doubt I'll give them a second chance. read more
