The pizza is excellent. The sauce is homemade and they sell it by the jar. One of the best. We've had the wings, boneless and bone in, fries, veggie wrap and Greek chicken wrap. The meatballs are so well made too. They even sell wine if you want to buy a bottle and bring it home. Friendly atmosphere and they send discounts to your email often if you sign up. This is among some of the best pizza around, in my opinion. It has good crisp, and a nice sauce -to-cheese ratio. Generally I do takeout, and the pizza holds up well between the time of pickup and eating, and leftovers warm up nicely in the oven the next day. A few years ago, there used to be a Comellas in Bedford, Ma. Their food was amazing, so good that you would crave pasta just because of their dishes. They closed that location down which made me so sad because I wasnt aware it was a chain. Fast forward to now, I found one in Belmont and was so elated. So I place an order: Honey BBQ: The wings are nice and big. They add a great amount of sauce which tastes ok. I believe there were 8 pieces. -It was worth the 13$ Chicken Parm: The pasta was meh, and the sauce didnt have much flavor. The chicken was ok, a bit dry. The consistency was a lil tough. I was so disappointed and unhappy. Chicken Brocolli Alfredo: The alfredo was a bit dry on the pasta and not really flavorfull, it tasted bland. Spinich ravioli: No real flavor to it, real bland Paying $60 for the food was a little hurtful already, paying it for food that no one ate is worse. We even switched dishes just incase we just didnt like what we had. I miss the great pasta I used to eat. I guess every dog has its day. read more

Italian "sandwich" is complete trash.. literally threw it away after 2 bites. No hots, pickles, cherry peppers, oil or vinegar.. and the deli meats are school lunch quality. I've been here numerous tines with fairly good experiences. What I don't understand is how a cook allows a raw pizza to leave the kitchen. Raw veggies on undercooked pizza dough and cheese. I have been going to Comella's since my middle school days and every time I go, I think about all those after-school pizza I had with my friends. Going to Comella's is a tradition I have with my mom whenever I'm in town; however, we usually get the same thing every time so here they are. Kale Caesar: this salad is made of baby kale rather than shredded kale so it is pretty tender. Other than that, there is nothing really different or special about this salad. This salad doesn't have chicken and I don't think it's worth 7 dollars. However, this salad goes well with the other menu items!! Cute Kate's: this pizza is a shrimp scampi pizza and it is DELICIOUS! The shrimp is meaty, it's full of garlic aroma, and the cheese pull is amazing. Putting some red pepper flakes will elevate this pizza. However, it is very oily so I always dab some napkins/papertowels to get rid of some oil. Aunt Issy's Mess: I have tried few of their messes and it's great. It is definitely not the most pretty looking pasta, but I like the different pasta types that are in it. My favorite mess is Aunt Issy's, which has vegetables, meatballs, and sausage. I like that Comella's tomato sauce is very savory and their meatballs are great. It is a good comfort food! 5 Stars for all the memories at Comella's, friendly service, and great pizza! read more

Update: This pizza joint has fallen TREMENDOUSLY, a cheese pizza used to cost 9.60 total, and now it's around $16. I used to be able to come here and have a meal with a couple friends for less than $10 and now that is no longer an option. Also the owner has changed after moving location, the pizza is way too oily now and it just isn't the same anymore. The new owners just don't know pizza. read more

A very long time ago, my mom worked in a pizzeria. She saw how pizzas were being made, a fistful of dough, a ladle of sauce, and topped with another fistful of cheese. Ever since then she always had trouble ordering pizza. It's not about the $10 the pizza costs, but is about the fact that she is paying $10 for something worth a quarter of that. It sucks though, because she loves pizza more than me, a college student... As such, when my family decided to visit me at university, my mom asked for pizza. I decided to order from Comella's as that's where some of my friends got their pizzas for events, and I knew it was quite good. I think the toppings I requested were mushrooms, peppers, onions, and olives, although at this point I don't quite remember. I do remember the experience, however... but first, if my mother was impressed with the pizza, you know it's good! The pizza we got was no frills, there was nothing really special about it, other than the fact that everything was executed in this simple, no frills way that makes me proclaim "Yay! I'm a fan" The crust, and especially the cornicione (the part that is held) was thin, crispy, and sturdy. This is awesome at it gave a wonderfully pleasant crunch to the pizza, and made the sauce, cheese, and toppings stand out more instead of being overwhelmed by bread. The cheese and sauce were pretty well balanced, not only in relation this each other, but also in relation to the crust. Toppings were great! there was a generous quantity of them (but not an overload) and they were fresh and well cooked. The reason I didn't give five stars, is while this pizza is awesome, it is not the best one I have ever had, but it's up there, just not "as good as it gets" Prices are reasonable, speed is good, and service is nice, verifying in front of you that the pizza is exactly what you ordered. read more

I ordered a gluten free pizza. The website promised a 16 inch pizza and usually you get 12 inches so I went with the 16 inch pizza. But the pizza they handed me was 12 inches. Then they have this detailed website where you can specify all kinds of details about the food. The put the toppings on the wrong sides - and I checked the order I placed, they definitely did it wrong. I ordered extra cheese and there was barely any cheese. And this thing was extremely expensive. Every possible thing that could be not ok was not ok. I didnt call them; maybe i should have complained directly but what are they going to do, offer me more terrible food? Well it's now officially a tradition. When we're in Arlington, we get a "family mess" from Comella's with our own family. The family mess contains an assortment of pasta (whatever is on hand, it seems) a hearty tomato sauce and cheese. Our choice, the Nephew's Mess, adds fried eggplant and sausage or meatballs. It truly is a mess, but it's delicious. The "half bucket" claims to feed 3-4 people. I have no idea who these "people," but they are not us. I would say it feeds at least six people. Sometimes a cheap, red-sauce place just hits the spot, and Comella's is just that. The pizzas are cheap ($5 for a cheese, toppings are on the pricy side ranging from $2-$6), and you can get beer/wine which is all that the husband asks for. It does get kind of chaotic (or "family friendly" depending on your stage in life) here for early dinner, but after 7:30pm it is nice and quiet. Simple but solid Italian takeout spot. My husband and I have tried the pizza and some of the subs including the eggplant Parm and the Italian sub. Everything was good. I wish the marinara sauce on the eggplant parm was a little more flavorful but I'd recommend this place if you're craving simple quick and easy Italian comfort food. read more

FINALLY! Comella's in Belmont has opened. This is the finest, friendliest, freshest Italian around. I no longer have to drive to the other locations, it is HERE! So, the pizza is pretty tasty and only $5. That's why they get three stars. However, I live less than 60 seconds from the restaurant, and when I call 10-15 min before closing and they have already turned off the oven in the kitchen and refuse to serve me. That's not okay. I get that it's annoying when people come in/order at the last minute (I don't do it often). I get that the waitstaff and kitchen WANT to close. But guess what: You're supposed to keep the kitchen open until it's not open anymore. There were many times, as a server, I hoped to get out right at closing when someone came in at the last minute and I had to pony up and do my job. I tend to side with servers on issues, but when it comes to this kind of thing- no. Not okay. That's why they don't get more than three stars. UPDATE: I've never encountered this closing early issue again, so it may have been a one off, & I overreacted. I decided to listen to my HS track team as their coach and order food from here for our end-of-season banquet. I went ahead and PRE-ORDERED 10 pizzas and a LARGE double lasagna. I stated the order would be picked up at 5:15. I got there and the friendly teenager rang up my order of over $150 (which is a great deal actually). Then we got the pizzas only to realize that the lasagna was stated to be done for 6:15 NOT 5:15. I ordered these items all together so i have no idea why it even got split up. The admitted fault but that didn't help that I had 30 high school students waiting for me and I had to stand and wait for the rest of the order. 20 min later they gave me the lasagna and an apology. I understand these things happen but they didn't even offer to take some $$ off or give me a complimentary salad or bread or something. I even made sure to tell them it was for a high school team. I took the lasagna out to my car...in a tin container AND a box and once I got to the high school I found that the lasagna grease had LEAKED all over my upholstery due to poor packaging. I know that I shouldn't have put it on my seat, but I was now 20 min late AND it was raining. I get that it's partially my fault but honestly the lid wasn't completely on and sinched and the lasagna wasn't distributed evenly between the 2 pans (1 had 12 pieces and 1 had 4). I'm extremely disappointed and don't plan on EVER going back. No more large orders. a simple monetary compensation or some free sides/bread would have gone a long way. read more

Monday through Friday, you can score a half sandwich (Chkn parm, Egg parm, Mozzarella, Sausage, Meatball), a side (Caesar or house salad, cup of soup) and a can of soda for $7. Helluva deal! Offered a number for the combo counter/table service and off we went... to wait. And wait. And. . Wait. Twenty minutes for what should be a precooked, ready-to-assemble lunch was a bit excessive (sandwiches aren't toasted, soup is steam bath warm). The end result was under-seasoned, somewhat single note and, for all intents and purposes, just plain average. For a quick bite (let's hope) at fast food prices, Comella's is somewhat of universally agreed upon option. And the $5 cheese pizza is legit, although I can't speak to the quality. As Yelp describes a two-star rating, "Meh. I've experienced better." If I were a kid in middle school or high school, I'd love this place. I could go there with three other friends and split a $5 cheese pizza ($1.25 each -- can't beat that!) and feel sort of grown up and independent. But since I'm not, I find the food to be pretty meh. The times my daughter has dragged me here, I do appreciate the fact that I can order a glass of wine. Beware of ordering takeout on a weekend night.
