Wow, where did yelp reviewers go wrong with this one? We stopped by because we wanted a Bloody Mary with breakfast on a Monday while we were in MLK. We were quick to be seated by a hipster bearded dude in skinny pants. I really wish I would have remembered his name. Food was ok but really how the heck does one mess up pancakes? The pancakes were dense and over cooked and I never even touched my Bloody Mary except for 2 sips...the second sip only to verify that I wasn't mistaken, it was truly horrible. When the server came by, I asked what kind of mix they use and he told me it was their own, I told him it was awful. He never asked if he could get me something else or offer to take it off the bill. It was SO bad, I didn't even touch the beer chaser...there couldn't be enough beer to chase that nasty taste out of my mouth. I would not recommend this place, nor will I be back when I'm in the area. Best thing about our meal was the water to rinse the taste out of our mouths. BLECK! read more

I have scoured my current city of Chicago for a tofu scramble comparable to the one at Comet and have failed to find one that is near as good. I held off for a long time trying the Comet tofu scramble, even though people told me it was delicious...how right they were. Pretty much everything here is great - the grilled cheese and tomato soup, bottomless coffee, vegan gyro (spectacular!), breakfast burrito (one of the best I've ever had), and the list goes on. The only thing that disappoints me, is that I swear the pancakes have changed. The last time I ordered one it was too thick and dry. However, they have another big draw and that is the Booze-a-Late. Who could say no to a giant coffee flavored iced cocktail at brunch? read more

After waiting for about 10-20 minutes on a Sunday, we were able to get a table for three here. After much debate, I ordered a Leghorn sandwich (pulled chicken, peach jam, cucumber, cream cheese, lettuce) and a BEERMOSA. Yes, a BEERMOSA. It's white beer + orange juice, and I must say, it was quite impressive and delicious! The sandwich came with really amazing fries, and the sandwich was filling and well worth the $7.75. My friends ordered Bloody Marys and they both agreed that their Bloody Marys were the best they ever had. They even come with BACON! Too bad I'm not into Bloody Marys, or else I would have had like four of them... The vegetarian eggs benedict was a hit, as was the sandwich special which had veggie chorizo, potatoes, egg, and this crazy spicy sauce drizzled all over it for $8. Any place that serves up bacon by the basket full gets five stars in my book. Plus, Comet is such a quintessential part of Milwaukee that I would recommend anyone and everyone check it out. Be warned that you will be waiting awhile if you come here for brunch and there isn't much room for standing around, but it will be worth it. Love the laid back atmosphere. Comet has changed a lot recently it used to be an overpriced coffee shop where angst ridden teens from Shorewood would come to smoke and caffeinate. Now it is a bar and restaurant. They merged there old building with the former Eddy's Chinese next to it. They have a bar on one side and non-smoking restaurant on the other. Their food is good, offering vegan and vegetarian dishes for the hippies. They also have a killer meatloaf with beer gravy which they make meat and meatless. If you like this place you'd probably like the Palomino in Bay View on Russel. I think the owners are the same, and some of the staff is too. read more

Comet is a good place. A great vegan and vegetarian friendly menu, although they definitely know how to throw down for us carnivores as well. Waitstaff is friendly, food of top quality. I've been here a number of times and I have never been disappointed. It's my go-to whenever I'm in Milwaukee. Some of my veg favs are the open-faced meatloaf sandwich and the hazelnut cutlet with gravy. The riblets are an awesome appetizer and the Sat and Sun brunch should not be missed. Small, out of the way place, but fun atmosphere and great food. My son had bacon pancakes and they were delicious. I had regular small stack and they were flavorful and tasty. Seems like it is a "hippie" type of place. One negative was that I saw cooks come out to get drink, and they had long hair and NO HAIR NETS. Yuck. read more

Hi my name is Ann, but you can call me Amy...lol...the host was so busy that he mistakenly called me Amy instead of Ann - i just figured he was calling out our group but that didn't bother me at all. It was just a funny thing to share. It was such a hectic sunday brunch at this place (& i knew beforehand that this is the usual), but you wouldn't feel any pressure nor get any bad service from the staff. They were very courteous, welcoming and still with all smiles. The place was very simple yet attractive and clean. The food? Outstanding! I got the Comet Benedict and the serving is just right. I love their hash brown - it looks similar as what other diners serve but this one tastes very homemade and less greasy. Their gravy complements the biscuit so much so that i could've asked for more :) it was worth the wait, the price, and the distance. I'm from Chicago and this won't stop me from coming back for more. One of my favorite restaurants to go to in MKE. I have been here twice and both times that food and the drinks have been awesome. Tried the Desert Rose this time and it was very refreshing... I have tried their Veggie burger and their Vegan Salisbury Steak and they were both amazing.. Can't wait to come back and try the Brunch.. Ok bar food. Horrible service. They forgot our order brought it out cold and forgot other sides. Place was not busy. When we complained that our food was cold, the waiter said sorry and walked away. Didn't come back the rest of the meal. Empty drinks. We asked to tell the manager the food was cold and we wanted it heated up. Did not happen and they said it would be taken off our bill. It wasn't. My wife and I had breakfast here at it was terrific. We started with a bloody mary which came with a strip of bacon on top and a beer chaser on the side. It was good but needed a little more kick. For food my wife had a bbq pulled pork burrito with a chipolte sauce. It was there special for the day and it was off the charts tasty. Just as my wife took her first bite they ran out so we got lucky. I had the homemade meatloaf covered in homemade sausage gravy. Each of our meals came with hash browns which were solid and mine also had scrambled eggs. When we left we each bought a cupcake. Mine was double chocolate and hers was banana cream with chocolate chips. The cupcakes were meals in themselves so we did not eat them till later in the day but they were fantastic as well. Everything we ate tasted like a lot of time and effort were put into it. I will be going back for sure. read more

This is one of my favorite cafes in the Milwaukee area. It's a cool hipster place, where the servers are friendly and the food is tasty. I like their music selection, which is mostly oldies or chill indie music. They have a huge drink selection, including a Beer Mimosa for brunch! They have a lot of dessert options, such as pies and cupcakes! This is a good place for late night dinner (up until 10PM when the kitchen closes) and for hanging out at night with a group of people. read more

This is a review for brunch- specifically Saturday morning brunch. There is usually quite a bit of a wait after 10am- I've waited up to an hour, but we had a larger group of 6. The French toast is the best deal on the menu- it's a huge portion (I can never finish it) and it's only $5. Everything else is just standard, normal brunch menu items. The benedicts are all good. Good alcohol selection. Just nothing to really write home about. Nice atmosphere. read more
