I usually book the reservation with Miss Lee. She is my favorite lady in this nail spa. Whenever there is a special event, I need to get my nails done. I always go with this place. My mother has been going to this shop for over 20 years, and recommended my girl try this place out. So, we made the appointment (which was highly recommended by my mother) pro tip: make appointment ahead. During our treatment, I've seen them turn away over 10 walk in customers within a duration of 45 minutes. Ms Lee took care of me and my girl together all by herself. We legit wanted to give her shoulder massage as she was holding down the fort all by herself. She works super hard and is super precise. I booked a reservation to do my nails at Comma Nail Spa, which is located at Downtown Evanston. The place is easy to find. Street parking is available as well. I went inside, it's spacious and warm. The technician welcomed me and took me to the seat. I told the technician what I want and we picked color together. After I tried several nail polish, I decided to pick the $35 option cause it's known for no chip. The process is fast and the result is GREAT！It's been a week, my nails still look good! I tried this salon for the first time today and I'm not coming back. First, I walked in with my husband and there was only one person attending to everything, she took us both in but neglected to tell us there wasn't anyone else to provide services. My husband waited for half of my pedicure and left. Second, they have not enough colors to match gel and regular polish (which I like to do in hands and feet). I had to compromise and choose a colors that were different and not even good ones. Third, the no-chip manicure and regular pedicure ended up being $85: there was en extra $5 for the polish, and other extras that I didn't understand as the owner doesn't speak much English. Plus the tip I always give it ended up being $100. Worse, when I get home and check my feet I notice my heels look awful (like I never got a pedicure). Manicure is sloppy as well (see photos). And of course my husband wasn't happy either... he left and I had to walk home! Expensive, poor service, no possibility of going with someone, no color options... I came into Comma Nail Spa on a whim today and was SO impressed. Lee was insanely meticulous with my pedicure and gel manicure, not to mention the mani pedi included massages, hot rocks, and tons of pampering! I had not looked at yelp before sitting down in the chair for my pedicure, but out of curiosity I glanced through the reviews as I got my toes done, and I was honestly shocked. I just received the best mani-pedi of my life at Comma Nail Spa. Here's why: I have never had such a thoughtful manicurist. She spent a good amount of time helping me pick out colors that complement my skin tone and match the occasion. I am graduating from Northwestern this weekend and so I am really caring that my nails look classy and polished. She did that. Often manicurists don't ask which nail shape I would like. Perhaps that speaks to the quality of places I have gone, but she, again, took such care in getting the shape just so. She was meticulous! I was incredibly satisfied with my experience. This was one of the worst nail experiences I've had. To start, they are pricey so I was expecting a great experience. I was seated at a station that had a previous customers nail clippings on the towel. When I asked for a new towel they put down a paper towel. My polish is lumpy and I have polish smears on the skin of my fingers from them messing up and trying to fix it with remover. The massage is always my favorite part of a relaxing nail experience, this one lasted for about 15 second per hand. Not to mention they were playing old western movies where the service cut out about every 2 minutes. Would not recommend coming to this salon. Everything has changed since this place changed hands and not for the better. The products are lower quality, no new magazines, everything is rushed and yet prices are the same. I gave them an opportunity even though the products and experience changed because Jenny was the best at mani-pedis ever, so I kept going just for her. Now she has quit (I wish I knew where she went!) and the lady I had was nowhere near as good. I'm not coming back, will move to a better salon based on yelp reviewers. read more

I just started going to Comma this June because they are the only place open past 7pm in Evanston. I am so excited that I tried this place out as they have quickly become my favorite nail place in the North Shore! I first went for a pedicure and it was by far the best pedicure I have had in a long time. We get our nails done to look nice but let's be real, I base a pedicure on the massage and pampering! Comma gives you three different leg massages that include a scrub, a mask, and hot stone. It is amazing! The second time I went I actually fell asleep in the chair, I was so relaxed! The second time I went to Comma I decided for a pedicure and no chip manicure. The manicure was just as great as the pedicure! It's been three (3) weeks and my nails have not chipped! This is the longest my nails have ever gone without chipping and since I usually get a light color, you can hardly notice the grow out. I wish the manager has different way of approaching a customer. I went to the shop on Wednesday and I met a new person who seemed like a manager. The way she speaks English sounds a little bit demanding and not friendly. And I got a technician who seemed a little bit shy and nervous which is fine. She tried her best but still needs to improve her skills with nail polishing because it was not applied evenly over each nail. So when I asked to correct it, she seemed a little bit annoyed. This store has many staffs working and rotating. So be careful who you get the service from. Some are really good, some are really not. I might not go back ever again. I have been a regular at Comma Nails for the past year, and I cannot say enough about how much I love going to this place! Christine and Daisy work with me most frequently, and both of these ladies are talented, friendly, and just great people. The services I received most frequently were pedicures and gel manicures, and people would compliment my nails for 2 weeks after I had them done. If I ever had a problem with a chipped nail, I could call and get it fixed very quickly and for no extra cost. I recommended Comma Nail to all of my friends. One thing to know is that Comma Nails is a place to go for a relaxing mani/pedi, and you should plan to take your time. This is not a place for a rushed/hurried appointment. read more

You know you've received terrible service when you create a Yelp account just to make sure no one ever goes to this business. I was headed out of town to a wedding in New Orleans and decided I needed to get my nails done. Coming off a yearlong hiatus from no chip manicures, I decided to once again indulge myself since I'd be out of town and wanted my nails to look classy, fun and most importantly chip-free. I am known for having unique and beautiful nails, so I couldn't wait to get my shellac nails once again. I'm fairly new to the Evanston area and was used to getting my nails done in the Loop. Since I didn't want to make that trip I listened to a coworker and took her up on her recommendation to try Comma. I went in on Monday, November 9th, for a pedicure and no chip manicure. I should've been suspicious when the nail tech couldn't do a design that's featured on this Yelp page. It took her three tries to draw a straight line grid on one of my nails. Since I saw she was having trouble, I told her not to worry about it and had her do black nails with black dots over white polish on my ring fingers. The nail job looked fine and I paid my $93 bill and tipped a total of $15. The very same night, the polish on the middle finger on my right hand chipped more than halfway off and I noticed ridges on my thumb. No big deal, ish happens, right? So I go the very next day and they fix both nails with no problem. I think everything's well until three days later, while in New Orleans, THREE more nails chip. So, since I had a wedding to go to, I went out of my way to find a nail shop to get them re-polished. Of course I paid for that. Then, today, November 19, ANOTHER nail chips! So after work I stop in for them to just remove the no chip and polish them clear because I'm tired of my nails chipping and looking very unkempt. I get there, explain everything I just summarized here, only to have one of the techs tell me it'll be 30 minutes before she can see me. When I say I don't have time for that, she asks me to come back tomorrow. Uh, excuse me m'am but I've been to the nail salon four times in the span of a week because of your janky polish. I don't have time to keep coming back to nail shops. I have meetings all day tomorrow. I tell her politely, that I won't have time to comeback tomorrow, and she just says, "sorry," with a shoulder shrug. So now I'm walking around all chiptastic and more than likely out of more money to fix their shoddy work. I understand things can get busy, but all she had to do was soak off the shellac. The nail salon is really nice and the massage chairs. However, the chairs for manis and pedis are separated by a mesh so it can make it hard to chat if you go with friends. The pedi was good, and it's nice that they include a hot stone massage with the basic pedicure. However, the "no-chip" manicure was a bit subpar. My manicurist was really rough when taking off my old gel manicure which left my nails a bit sore. She also didn't paint the entire nail and stopped short of the sides and the cuticle when painting. read more

I have been going to Nail Bar for a long time, and it was recently bought by Comma Nails. The first time I went for a manicure this weekend, my nail polish peeled off within hours of leaving the salon-I called them to tell them this and they very graciously agreed for me to come in and give me a polish change. Again the paint peeled/chipped off in a matter of hours! So strange, this has never happened to me before. I called them back just to give them a heads up that it may be a product they are using. I made it clear I was not asking for another polish change (what would be the point?) The woman who I spoke to, Lee, was pretty snooty to me and basically hung up on me. I'm so sad as this was the best Nail Bar I had ever been too and now it is under new management and the discount days are gone, the Belly App is gone (I was so close to a free Pedi!!), my favorite lady for wax and pedicures/manicures is gone.... and none of this has been replaced with anything particularly good. The staff all seem very attentive and helpful with whatever you need but the usual care and precision is just not there. I scheduled an appointment on-line which Lee at Comma accepted. Something must have gone awry with their scheduling system as I was one of many customers who scheduled appointments that Comma would not/could not accommodate, even though they didn't bother to call and cancel the appointment or inform their clients. When I showed up for the appointment, I was treated very rudely and told by Lee to "come back later". Lee was highly unprofessional and made me feel very undervalued as a paying customer. This place was amazing! I am going back next weekend for another manicure! Not only were they wonderful and you were able to sit and chat with the technicians, but they really took care of me! Turns out from running I started to lose one of my toenails. They took the time to glue it and prep it and make sure it was still there so it could heal and then carefully painted it. My pedicure looks amazing! They also fixed a chipped nail from a manicure I had gotten the day before for free! They do an amazing job and I can't wait to go back! I moved to Evanston last fall and never went to Nail Bar so I can't speak from any past experience. When I first moved, I was going to Bien Assorti for my manis/pedis, but was becoming increasingly dissatisfied with their service. So, I stumbled in to Comma one day b/c it's near my house and there never seems to be much of a wait. I took the plunge and had my first gel manicure done recently. Daisy did an amazing, meticulous job applying the gel manicure, and when I went back yesterday for the removal, it was fast, easy, and my nails looked beautiful and healthy when I left! Prices are good, staff is always friendly and cheerful (so far I've only encountered three women there, one of whom I think is the owner and the other is possibly the owner's daughter). It's a small, intimate place which I imagine could be a problem on a busy day, but so far it's one of my favorite best-kept-secret nail salons in Evanston. read more

Then after waiting 30 minutes for the more expensive nail polish to dry, I left and a few hours later the nail polish was completely destroyed. Avoid this salon at all costs. I went there thinking it was Nail Bar but it wasnt. I needed to get a Bikini Wax and I wish I didn't. They used the same stick for my wax which is bad and then the lady who was doing it was not gently what so ever. she missed a lot of places and I had to go home and do it myself.
