The shellac manicure has turned into one of my necessities in life. I've been driving to a great little spot in Lake Oswego but that day I was just too damn tired to drive anywhere. The reviews by Ms. Sherry S. and Olivia O. sealed the deal for me and I decided to give Comma a try. A cup of hot mint tea perked me up and a hot lavender neck wrap warmed me up and relaxed me as Ashley went to work on my hands. Here I am a week later and I'm still looking as good as new. Comma had a minor service blip with me when my in-laws came to town, but I will tell you this: hunt far n wide as you might: you will not find better service or a better nail job in all of the downtown-to-pearl area of Portland. Boo. But, I saved $12 for not drinking. -1 star Unfortunately, the gel mani I got literally only lasted 1 day before chipping. WHAT?! I've been getting gel manis for years, and this is the only time I've had a chip in under 2 weeks. I had high hopes for a spa that combined wine and spa services- and I also planned a bridal shower here with a few girls - when I made the appts on the phone, they seemed very friendly and mentioned that it was a great place for the shower, we can all chat, etc. When I arrived, I guess they didn't make a note of the shower, which is ok so I asked for a table to set up some of our stuff. The lounge area was a bit bigger and more spaced apart than I anticipated. We were still able to chat but the place was empty and so quiet I felt weird talking any louder than what can be heard to someone right next to me. I did love that they have an extensive wine menu and that made it feel a bit more special. The worst part though was my nails - my pedicure was fine (and I will give a full disclosure that I do have super dry feet and she really did slough a lot of dry skin off which I appreciated), but my mani was a bit disastrous - she kept saying how dry and thin my nails are so she knicked me a couple times - so much that now it's over a week later and I still have a cut on my thumb. I have had manis for over 10 years and never had this problem. A couple of the girls got the foot soaks and massages and they said it was just okay. Overall, I liked the convenience but I wouldn't come here for nail services again. read more

Lovely, lovely spa/salon. Wasn't sure what to expect but made a mani/pedi appointment here on a whim and what a surpise. Was instantly greeted by a very friendly staff and instantly felt at ease. The place overall is small but warm, modern, and cozy. There are lounge chairs, fireplaces, soothing music...and of course, don't forget the wine! It is quite easy to spend a couple of hours here. Do yourself a favor and get a glass of wine...they have a great variety. All the prices are very fair even for a bottle. The house wine is only $5/glass and tastes great. My deluxe pedicure was amazing. Rose petels floating in the water. Excellent leg and foot massage. My toes never looked better! Lots of choices for polish as well. My back fill was nice. A little spendy (didn't realize it would cost $15 extra to get some 'bling' on my nails) but they certainly look good! All in all Comma is a new fave for sure. I would love to come back for a facial or massage...sit and lounge around while drinking wine. The staff here make you feel so welcome. Recommendation: Don't come here if you are looking for a quick service or something inexpensive. For a pedicure and a back fill- including tip I paid $100. It is well worth the money in my book. If you are going in here just for nail painting you are missing out on so much more. I had a full body massage from Shelly and my shoulders are no longer touching my ears for starters. I like a massage where my body is working to help remove that ancient stubborn tightness. The theraputic ones mean so much more because they are longer lasting. That's the kind I asked for. She was very intuitive about what my body was trying to tell her as she worked though my achy muscles and sore spots. The room itself is cozy, warm, and almost cave-like in its lighting. I originally came here on a Groupon for a glass of wine/shoulder rub/foot soak and facial and it was so relaxing and a perfect combination of services! Everyone was so nice and when we left, they even gave us $25 off coupons for our next massage or facial. So, with coupon in hand I went back for a facial after experiencing some uncharacteristic breakouts. I've never been a huge fan of facials - but this one knocked my socks off! I had the 60 minute custom facial and it was amazing - I was so relaxed I literally fell asleep on the table! I Not to mention when it was over I looked at the clock and realized 90 minutes had gone by - I was concerned there was some mistake and they thought I had booked the 90 but it turns out they just wanted to provide excellent treatment so they went over on time. So nice! They did a great job of listening to my skin issues and designing a custom treatment that flowed so nicely. I left with my skin looking 100% better and so so so relaxed! Overall - an amazing place based on my two trips! They also have a great wine selecftion - they don't offer free wine (unless your service comes with wine in the description) - which I scoffed at when I first came in, but after the facial, I didn't even care anymore and realized I'd much rather have an incredible service and no wine vs. a medicore service and cheap wine! i definitely recommend! read more

My LMT was Shelly, she was awesome and very friendly. The decor of this place is awesome. I enjoyed my massage. I was offered ginger tea (at no cost), a foot bath to warm my feet from the rain. I had a nice assessment regarding my pain areas and massage history which sparked a conversation about CUPPING. If they had offered cupping I would I have ordered that service in a heartbeat! So hopefully they'll bring it to their spa in the future.... I felt great afterwards!! I might fly back out to portland for another one. Such a cute little nail salon tucked away across the street from First Presbyterian Church. I brought my bridal party here. The ladies at Comma did a good job of making us feel welcome and relaxed. We got the deluxe mani/pedis and added time in the massage chairs as well. I mentioned that I'd been too busy to eat breakfast or lunch (It was like 12:30pm), and one of the technicians was nice enough to create a beautifully arranged snack plate of crackers, cheese, and fruit to go with our mimosas and sparkling cider. Generous portion, too. As the bride, I got the gel manicure, which lasted a good 2.5 weeks. Skillwise, I think the ladies did a great job. A couple of quibbles, though. And they really are "quibbles," not a big deal: -We were a party of 4 girls; 2 white and 2 Asian. The white girls got magically paired up with white nail technicians, while the Asian girls got paired with the Asian technicians. Maybe not intentional.... but HMMM still kind of weird, right? -The two white technicians spent like half the time gushing over the engagement ring.... the ring that belonged to one of the bridesmaids. As The Bride, I felt sort of upstaged. Petty, I know, but.... really? Not even a glance at the bride's bling the day before the wedding? Sad face. Anyway, I came away feeling pretty pampered and relaxed, and the technicians gave us our mani/pedi kits to take home as well. But another minor quibble: they spelled my name wrong on my kit. :( I know, petty... but I'M THE BRIDE, damn it! I was SO not a Bridezilla bride, but Comma had me a bit peeved. In sum, we had: -4 girls -4 mani/pedis (including 1 gel mani) -4 15-minute chair massage -2 mimosas and 1 bottle of cider -3 hours of pampering and I paid over $700. read more

I felt like I was in a friend's home with the comfy couches and delicious wine! My friend and I did the beyond words and daydream special. The space was intimate and fun. Who can complain about a hand, foot and neck massage plus super relaxing facial (I fell asleep)? It's above a bar therefore an adult beverage was a must. I went on a Groupon for a facial, foot soak and 30min massage, and added a mani/pedi. The place has a comfortable atmosphere and the ladies working there were very nice and knowledgable. I love the whole "living room" atmosphere of the comfy couches and chairs with the low lighting and fake fireplaces in the mid-portion of the salon. I was slightly less crazy about the way-less-than-subtle massage chair while receiving my pedicure. It felt okay, but jounced my body around to where when I looked down, I felt like John Hurt in Alien just before the baby bursts through. I also wasn't crazy about having a full-length mirror right in front of me as this was happening. Not my idea of relaxing. But I'll admit that I'm fussy - your mileage may vary. I also hadn't expect the 30min massage to be on my feet. I may very well have mis-read the Groupon. I just assumed it would be shoulders/neck/back type area. I also didn't mind the mention of the specials, and I didn't even mind the reminder of the special package they were pushing. I do draw the line at a third push to get me to buy more. I don't know about other patrons, but I'm way more sold on a place by the service than by being pushed into buying packages. A major compliment: I nearly fell asleep. At least twice. Also - when asked how short I wanted my fingernails, I'd said "really short - I play bass and need for my nails not to get in the way." She did my nails SUPER short without pinching a bit of skin. The lady was taking the clock and the second the 20 minutes was up, she was eager to get me out. I was thinking I would at least get a nail painting along with the foot massage but that apparently wasn't included so I paid an extra $20 for a HORRIBLE paint job. Found this quaint place off yelp. Walking-in I didn't really know what to expect so you can imagine how happy we were to be greeted by the kind and talented owner and staff. Hubby and I called 5 minutes before and they were very accommodating. The massage chairs put us into a relaxed trance as we were lulled into a deeper stage of bliss with our mani and pedicures. Hubby had a deluxe pedicure and they made his feet shine while sipping on some delicious local vino. I was content with a classic service. They took their time and were super thorough and so clean. So relaxing and wonderful! My amazing friend, Linda, purchased a "Daydream Facial, Vinotherapy Foot Soak and Massage, and Glass of Wine" for my Christmas gift. This was my first visit and Ashley Appel was amazing! I honestly don't remember the last time I felt so relaxed and I so needed it. It was very quiet and comfortable and Ashley was the only one there; everyone else had called in sick. She was happy to take excellent care of both Linda and myself and it was so very relaxing and wonderful. She brought us cheese and crackers and the wine was wonderful. We didn't feel rushed or anything and Ashley offered to split the services if we didn't want to wait since it was just her. She took GREAT care of both of us and the pace was very relaxing. She also included a mask with the facial to help with timing. I will definitely be back...in fact, I'd love to go on some sort of a regular interval. This place is amazing! I was visting and walked in and luckily was able to snag a mani/pedi spot. Wendy was great! She gave me a hot stone massage on my legs for free because I let her know that my left ankle was a bit swollen from a surgery I had on it last year. And it doesn't stop there -- she also let me relax in one of their recliner chairs for 30+ minutes while my nails dried. She put an herbal eye mask on me to help me relax and even put a warm wrap around my neck. It was heaven! I also loved the atmosphere and everyone was so friendly. Plus, they serve alcohol and snacks here. If I lived here I would totally come here with girlfriends and do their mini-facials/massage. I thought this was a really great salon. Ashley (the owner) helped me - with both my bikini wax and manicure. She really is a jack of all trades. I've had a ton of bikini waxes in my life - and this was by far the least painful wax ever. She used a mix of soft and hard wax. The manicure was very relaxing - she could have worked on my cuticles a little more, but the shape of my nails is exactly how I like them. I definitely recommend this salon. I brought my brother here for his graduation present and it was really nice. They have very comfy recliners where we sat and soaked our feet while I sipped on a glass of red wine. Then they gave us each a really nice foot and calf massage. The recliners lay completely flat for the neck/shoulder and head massage. I called to find out their availability (since another Yelp reviewer had problems with getting an appointment) and was pleased that they could fit me in at my convenience. The space was comfortable and I was immediately offered water. The massage rooms were upstairs and away from the nail section, which I thought was smart if a chatty group came in. My massage was good, I enjoyed having my muscles worked on, but I would have appreciated a little less talking during it.
