My experience unfortunately lines up with many of the issues others have reported. I tried making an appointment online for my boyfriend's birthday. Their website glitched -- I never received a confirmation email, and the discount code they sent didn't even work. Red flag number one. On the day of the appointment, I called multiple times for over an hour, sat on hold, got sent to voicemail every single time, and never received a call back. How a "spa" can't answer their phone during business hours is beyond me. Then, 20 minutes AFTER the appointment time, they suddenly decide to call and leave a voicemail saying, "Call us back so we can reschedule you." When I called back (again and again), they ignored me -- and then had the nerve to charge me a no-show fee for an appointment they never even confirmed. The audacity would be impressive if it wasn't so pathetic. And after reading the reviews from other customers -- AND former employees -- everything makes sense. The "software malfunctions," the refusal to honor gift certificates, the lack of communication, the high turnover, the unprofessional management... it's all a pattern. Extremely unorganized and unprofessional. This isn't a spa. It's a poorly run, outdated, unresponsive business that hides behind policy to squeeze money out of people instead of providing actual service. Save yourself the frustration and go literally anywhere else. There are plenty of spas in Portland that know how to run a business and treat customers like humans. I'd visited Spa Sasse before and was looking forward to trying a new body treatment. During one of the treatments, that involved a Vichy shower and getting rinsed off, the water became way too hot. How hot? It was so hot I lept up off the table, soaking wet, in a wet room, because the scalding water got on my intimate area. I have a bad knee on the left and torn rotator cuff on the right and the my ability to move so quickly and agily was a surprise. I was kind of in shock afterwards and didn't mention it until a few days later when my skin started peeling off. I can't imagine returning after that experience. My wife had an extremely disturbing experience at this spa and feels obligated to warn others. The services provided were materially different from what was advertised on the spa's website. What was presented as a luxury experience turned out to be altered and shortened treatments, without clear explanation beforehand. Most concerning were the hygiene and sanitation conditions. Basic cleanliness standards were not followed, which made the experience feel unsafe. The salt scrub treatment was particularly alarming. It appeared to consist of oil being poured from an unclean-looking bottle, followed by fine salt sprinkled directly from a package onto my body. This did not resemble a professional exfoliation treatment and raised serious concerns about hygiene and proper service standards. During one of the treatments, a staff member interacted with me while wearing street clothes and did not appear to follow basic hygiene protocols. The use of fingernails directly on my bare back, with no visible hand sanitation and whispering throughout the procedure, was extremely uncomfortable and alarming. When she raised these concerns afterward and requested a refund, the business refused to take responsibility and offer a just a 20% discount for any next procedure. What are you talking about, I would not take any service here even for free! I strongly advise potential clients to be cautious, as the lack of proper sanitation could potentially expose clients to bacterial or fungal infections as an unfortunate "bonus" to the service. read more

I've been to Spa's all across the country- all across the West Coast, California, Hawaii, and Canada. This was the absolute worst spa I have ever been in. Absolute disaster from beginning to end. It was my birthday and I ended up running out of that horrible place crying. They are a liability. It began 20 min late, a stimulating citrus, pepper mask and then a menthol mask was applied after a hydra-facial..my face and eyes were on fire, red, inflamed, then my whole face was washed and I was told to leave.. two hours later I got no completed service. I was red stressed and crying and they still tried to charge me $149. They refused to let me speak to a manager. I'm in my hotel room now and my entire face hurts hours later. And I STILL had to pay $95 for the mistake of choosing them. I just paid so they would let me leave. I was like screaming and crying to just be able to leave the place. It was an absolute nightmare. I don't feel good about leaving a one star review. It brings me no joy to reign down negativity upon a small business. I gave them every opportunity to do the right thing and simply refund my bottle of unused $70.00 CBD Massage oil. Such a small request. I didn't care for the scent. And then I should have reported my concerns about my massage at that moment but they were busy upselling me and I just wanted to get out of there. And then the really big deal. I didn't feel good about the massage therapist that worked on me. I don't remember his name. This review has been sitting in my drafts for 2 years as I waffle between whether I want to post it or not. Based on what I experienced during my massage I really should have said something. I felt like the therapist was getting way too close to my private areas when I was there to be treated for neck and shoulder pain. As a sexual assault survivor, I froze. The "massage" seemed like it went on forever. Which typically when you get a massage, that's what you want. I had to listen to this guy brag about how he used to volunteer with Mother Teresa. I know his name starts with an "I" so if they tell you he's your therapist, I suggest asking for another. I was seriously traumatized by this and regret not having said anything at the time. I've been a patron of this establishment for over a decade. Despite the lackluster reviews and being present (within eye and/or ear shot) of a few situations illustrating the owners flawed character and poor judgement directed at employees and other patrons, I always had a mostly pleasant experience Until now. When a business has a high turnover rate, it's usually indicative of suboptimal management. As a former spa employee (not of Spa Sasse) I'm always curious to know what their work environment is like behind the scenes. I pay attention to the long winded success stories, and I pay attention to the forced smiles and pleasantries "Ummm, well... there are some nice people who work here..." and other non-answers to that effect. Which, across the board, have been the response from those who've spent time as staff at Spa Sasse. My grievance is directed solely on the owners (Sarah) blatant unlawfulness, of which I am ethically inclined to file a law suit. I received a gift certificate in the amount of $450 several years ago. As a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of Oregon i understand that legally, gift certificates never expire. So, you can imagine my enthusiasm, when cleaning out my storage one day, this unused gift card, within Spa Sasse cardstock, tucked inside a Soa Sasse envelope. I called immediately to schedule an appointment. At first they claimed software malfunction, and within several weeks they casually dismisssed it all together, stating that because they updated their system software, they are unable to honor my gift certificate. Several months later, and they've been completely unresponsive. Though haven't bothered to remove me from their mass email list, funnily enough. Regardless of system software and any circumstances which don't lay fault at your patrons feet, it is highly unethical and straight up illegal to refuse the redemption of this gift certificate. Sarah is choosing to forfeit thousands in future bookings on my behalf over $450 and choosing instead to find herself in a court battle. I was traveling to Portland for a conference and made a bit of time in my schedule to enjoy a massage before a long plane ride. I booked the appointment the day prior and received a confirmation text the evening before which included a door code to enter the spa. Knowing that this technology was in place helped me feel more comfortable, trying a new spot in the heart of the city. I arrived just a few minutes before my service, and was greeted at the door by Sonia, the service provider. She was lovely and welcomed me into the spa and back to a calm, waiting area where there were water and some prepackaged granola bars available while I waited for her to finish setting up the room. The relaxation area was quiet, dimly lit by salt, lamps and tea, lights, and there was the soft sound of a fountain. When Sonia came back to take me to the treatment room, she noted that we were starting a little bit early, and assured me that she would make sure to still provide a 50 minute service if my schedule allowed. It did, and she did. She asked about any ailments or spots that I would like her to focus on, and it was clear that she targeted those spots, while also providing an incredibly relaxing and soothing, full body massage. Sonia was wonderfully skilled, she was welcoming and conversational, but I appreciated that she followed my cues to not be super chatty during the service. She checked in on the heat at the table, the positioning of the bolsters, and the pressure she was applying. She also offered a selection of aromatherapy sense, and I opted for eucalyptus. It was not overpowering, but a lovely (& complimentary -- I can't believe some spots charge for aromatherapy!!) addition to the treatment. I will absolutely be back to this spot on my next visit to Portland. It can feel a bit risky to try a new spa for a service like a massage while traveling... My partner and I celebrated our 7-year anniversary at the spa with their Couples Crescendo treatment, and it was exactly what we needed. We went for the same treatment on our 5-year anniversary, and coming back was just as amazing as we remembered. This time, we extended the massage to 110 minutes, and those extra minutes made a huge difference - we spent a solid 2.5 hours just melting into relaxation. The treatment started with the massage, which was so good that I think I forgot about all my worries for a while. After that, they used warm oil and salts that left our skin feeling so soft. And just when we thought it couldn't get better, there was this incredible Vichy shower (think gentle rain meets high-pressure shower - heavenly) and a scalp massage that wrapped things up perfectly. This was my first massage experience and it was amazing! The spa itself had such a calming atmosphere, it truly is a hidden oasis in the city. We booked the Moonstruck Massage and it was great, just what we needed. Both masseuses made us feel relaxed and comfortable. I went here to try the shower mostly, but Iqbal is incredibly talented & he released a knot in my neck my chiropractor couldn't resolve! His training in a variety of styles from around the world really shows! I have trouble finding therapists that truly do deep tissue as well, & he really got in there & fixed me! This spa was not anything what I was expecting. The service was friendly, and kind. The tried their best for what they had. I wish they would have been up front and honest. We went in after flying from the west coast to celebrate a birthday. We booked a package "Revitalizer Plus" Hydrotherapy Bath - which was a bathtub in a small little room that was dirty, with mold growing in the corners. I was uncomfortable even sitting in the room. The bathtub had a grey/brown ring that had a note that said don't worry about the stain due to the seaweed and oils. It was a disappointment. It was nothing different then sitting at home in your own bathroom which was probably 100x cleaner. There wasn't any special smelling bubble bath, etc. The water wasn't warm. It was a huge disappointment! Custom Massage - my masseuse was good, but due to covid-19 in Portland even with a vaccination card you haver to wear a mask which is very difficult when trying to relax and breath while getting a massage. Ultimate Spa Pedicure- We had dinner plans, and they had to be canceled due to the spa being short staffed and them not informing us, if the staff would have just told us we rather had just canceled the spa pedicure then having one person die two pedicures in almost two hours instead of one hour. The pedicure area also smells like a sewer. Which is terrible! Overall, the spa employees did not know what they were doing. I received a massage, facial, and eyelash tinting from this spa. The massage was good, however the owner of the spa, who did my facial and eyelash tinting, did not seem to know what she was doing. The customer service is good, however I LEFT THE SPA WITH BLACK DYE STAINED UNDER MY EYES looking like a raccoon, which didn't fully remove for several days. during my hydrafacial the technician could not get the machine to work and scraped my skin. Having had several hydra facials (there is always some scratching feelings but not like this) and eyelash tintings I can confidently say that my provider (who was the spa owner) really needed to brush up on their knowledge before charging for these services. The worst part of it all was I got zero apology for messing up my eyelash tinting, and the staff at the spa even tried to convince me it's "normal" to have your face stained with dye after an eyelash tinting. I don't expect any money back, but I feel I should point out that having dye near your eyes can be dangerous and should only be done by people who truly know what they are doing. i wish these employees had done more to correct their mistake instead of just leaving me distressed with tears in my eyes to fend for myself. while I am sure there are good employees here, I would proceed with caution and definitely make sure if you get the owner of the spa as your provider that you check she really understands how to perform some of these potentially damaging services. everyone makes mistakes, but this was very negligent behavior and it would weigh on my conscience not to post a review so people can avoid having the same experience I did. I hope the employees brush up on their skills and saw this as a lesson! read more

Was kind of disappointed with the hydrafacial I got. The lady doing my facial, who was the owner, seemed disinterested. The chemical peel was extra. She told me it would cost $20, while charging me they put it as $40. The 20 min facial, which didn't have any extractions, ended up costing $200. On top of that, while inquiring about the serums that can be added onto the facials, the owner Sara was completely clueless. She didn't know the names or ingredients of any of the top up serums that are used in hydrafacials. The same facial with manual extractions and 30 mins duration ended up costing me $100 in New York City. All in all, I would say avoid if you don't want to be disappointed. read more

I came in for the Crescendo (massage and Vichy shower combo). The massage with Robin was great, although this is the first spa where I was draped with a sheet and blanket (which was heavier and more noticeable than I'm used to when getting massages). However, the Vichy shower was a disappointment. I've done a couple of these at other places, and the experience lasted much longer elsewhere. This felt very quick, and I don't feel was worth the cost at all. I paid half the cost of this package at a spa in LA and had a longer session. I'm giving four stars because the staff were nice, the facility was clean, and the massage was good. I would not recommend anyone do the Vichy shower here. read more
