It is tucked in a neighborhood in the West End, and most people were surprised we found it or had heard of it as non-locals. It is a very popular spot. We arrived 20 minutes early and snagged the last parking spot in the lot behind the restaurant. Eric R. wanted to sit outside, so we were directed to wait at the bar until a table opened up. I got the cucumber sage yuzu spritz mocktail, and Eric R. got a local amber beer. Our table was ready within 10 or 15 minutes, so we migrated to it for dinner. Our server was helpful in providing recommendations. We started with three shareables: the mussels in lemongrass serrano beer broth and grilled bread, tempura long-stemmed artichokes on Calabrian chile mascarpone, and the lamb lollipops with pearled cous cous. I tasted the lamb, and it was heavenly, like melt-in-your-mouth tender but with a lot of caramelization. That was really Eric R.'s choice so I let him eat the majority of it. I really enjoyed the mussels and the artichokes! Everything was hot and delicious. I was sipping broth with a mussel shell when the bread ran out, and the host came out with more bread for us! It was so good. We asked to see a dessert menu. Eric R. had a tough choice between carrot cake and blondie with caramel ice cream, but was steered toward the blondie and did not regret it. I asked what the house made ice cream was for the day, and it was coconut matcha with a white chocolate shell topping. That sounded so perfect, and it was AMAZING. The evening was beautiful, the restaurant was lovely, the service was fantastic, and the food was delicious! That is the answer!

The carrots were bland, and the potatoes were hard and also lacking in flavor. It was especially disappointing because everything was plated so beautifully. The cocktails were okay--beautifully presented, but not particularly memorable. I may come back and try a different entree, but I'm not sure the food was impressive enough to make this a must-return. I did not try the other items my friend got.

They also walked me through other options and were happy to do so, which can be rare. The Cali Burger had amazing spice and the sweet potato bun was soft and delicious. Fries and buffalo wings were on point! My non-vegan colleagues originally wanted to go elsewhere but ended up devouring their options as they couldn't say "no" when they tasted the food. The Katsu tofu addition was not so great. No really marinated, just breaded/fried, so that was a bit disappointing. The cheesecake was fairly mediocre. The flavor of the actual cheesecake was very bland, and even the caramel and nuts were not enough to save that - it felt like it was prepared for fruit toppings in mind, not for more subtle flavors so that is one big edit that needed to be made. Writers nights at the Commodore Grille are better than ever in this freshly remodeled venue. I enjoyed the pickin' and singing with the great sound system last night. The acoustics are fine and the music is free. Now darling Debi Champion offers regular writers nights at this quality place in the Holiday Inn Vanderbilt across from the Parthenon of Centennnial Park. Debi did good last nite there as mc and sound board goddess. Kimberly King and Steve Haggard tore into some moving chords and vocals. During the day it's a regular lounge and grille. Starting at 6am they offer an expensive top-quality breakfast buffet popular with travelers and business folk. The grill plates and sandwiches are tops. read more

Great venue for local artists! It's the kind of place where you'll either see someone play who's brand new to the music scene or they've played with every country music legend you can think of. I'm not a big fan of country music, though they tend to offer a diverse sound. The night I visited a couple of artist had a bluesy feel which was really refreshing! The beer selection is run of the mill, but they do offer some decent craft options. Plenty of mixed drinks and wine are available as well. ahhh, so much to say about the commodore!! :) i am a local that plays there a lot! and rick stewart is always great at scheduling me or working me (and others) in! wouldn't want to book with anyone else!! the sound is always pretty terrific, and since they redid the decor, i love being seen in all that green. only wish you wouldn't have taken the BLA (bacon, lettuce, avacado) sandwich and some other yummy items off the menu, but oh well! thanks COMMODORE for all you do for me, my friends, and my music! :) now where's my HIT!? :) read more

The house salad was fine, but they didn't have any options to add protein to it. There is not a dress code, but the majority of people wear nicer than t-shirt / jeans.
