Came out here for a friend's birthday recently and it was super fun! Lots of seating inside and outside, where you can order your food via QR code which was super easy! We got the pretzel which is our favorite thing to have with a beer, and we enjoyed it! We also got a cider but in general, their selection is expansive and super good! Will be back! read more

I had a great time here as I was celebrating my friend's 40th birthday (this was part two of her birthday celebration; part one was Destruction Room). Commonwealth's setup, to me, resembles Norfolk's Smartmouth - there's a large seating area with a view of the brewery, and at one end is the bar where you can order. Commonwealth has a banquet room, which you can reserve (which the b'day girl's husband reserved for us), and they have a shuffleboard table there. The bar where you order has above it a giant board proudly displaying their beers (complete with descriptions). I like the fact that I don't have to wait long to order and thus where up having more than a few beers. With the parking limited, they have valet, but be ready if you drive stick. The 2 valet drivers working the evening I showed up couldn't drive standard. Commonwealth doesn't serve food, but like many breweries there is usually a good truck parked outside. Vickie Vail's was there that evening, although our birthdays party came correct with plenty of food! Also, Commonwealth is pet-friendly. I saw plenty of customers there with their dogs and many were nice enough to let me pet their canines. Bring at least a friend or two because, combined with Commonwealth's beers, it's fun time! All around great brewery-- good vibes, tasty pizza and even better beer! They have a strong social media presence and keep it up to date with all the happenings during the week. They are also doggy friendly! Parking can be a little tricky with just a small gravel lot behind the building-- one row. Especially if there's something going on the day of your visit, expect to park in the nearby neighborhood and walk. The have a ton of beers on tap, but tend to lean more towards IPAs and heavier beers. But, they've been adding more seltzers to the menu if that's your thing! I tend to like lagers and saisons and can usually find something I like on tap. They have seating indoors, as well as a ton of seating outside. During the winter they have a heated tent area. Dogs are allowed inside as well! During our most recent visit we were able to try their new pizzas made in house and they were so good! The El Jefe was our favorite with house made chorizo, pickled jalapeños, pickled onions, crema, and queso fresco. Ordering was super easy through a QR code on the table that also told staff where you were sitting when they brought it out. In the past they usually have food trucks on site, but it looks like they will have them less frequently with the new pizza bar. We love Commonwealth and will continue coming back! read more

There's a massive front room and a back game room. They also have outdoor seating near a food truck and a large open tent with heaters off to the side during the pandemic. I really liked this brewery. They have a nice setting, with plenty of space, inside and out. Although most of their beers were high alcohol IPAs, which are not within my taste, there were some other good options. I REALLY liked the Tranquilo dark mexican lager. It had richly flavored malt, with hop notes and was refreshing and very drinkable. I had more than one of these. It was a little disappointing they didn't serve flights, as that's my ususal way to try a brewery for the first time, to try a variety. They did offer two samples. I also tried the Aurele lager which was also good. I had a pint of the Jugo IPA, which was their lowest alcohol IPA at 6%. It was fine, but a little unbalanced towards hop-dominant for my taste. The pizza we had was outstanding. The Divolo had some really tasty pickled peppers and nice pepperoni. I'd definitely order it again with a couple pints of tranquilo! read more

Near to Chic's Beach and the Oceanfront, Commonwealth has a variety of beers either on tap or available in the can for your enjoyment! There is always ample seating inside in their tasting room, in the semi-indoor semi-outdoor seating area with the garage door (which happened to be open on the day we were there...with also a HUGE couch that is probably 20 feet long???). There are also seats outside by a rotating food truck, as well as an outdoor white tent. Basically, whatever type of dining or drinking experience you feel comfortable with at this point,t you can find here! The beer I had today was called "Fog Cutter" and was a true delight. Bordering on a sour beer that wasn't too too sour, it was enjoyable and diverse on the palette. I enjoyed the ambiance and really look forward to trying out more of their beers soon! Random notes, too: dog friendly (saw soooo many cute ones!!) and also family friendly. There is a lot of green space all around for the kiddos to play at. read more

I've been a regular at Commonwealth since they opened their doors even before they had food! The beer has always been top notch in the area, by far my favorite VB/Norfolk brewery. It can be loud at times but they have an outside area for when it is nice outside. The bar staff is always super friendly and knowledgeable. The food has been nothing but amazing every time I have gone. I literally dream about their pizza. If you're looking for a spot to try, look no further. read more

I'd say Commonwealth ranks among the best breweries in the state. I don't think I've ever had a beer by them that's been bland or a drain pour. Per Untappd, I've now tried 10 of their beers. A bulk were at the brewery itself a couple weekends ago. While they do have a wide selection of options, their list tends to accommodate the IPA crowd the most. I'm not anti-hops, but it's not my personal favorite flavor profile. However, I do think theirs are well-crafted and drinkable, even for non-IPA consumers. As in, they taste like more than just pine trees. I've had three sours by them (my preferred style) and they were all absolutely incredible. So Pitted tastes like a tart peach, whereas Tinta Rosa, a sangria sour, is like drinking wine in a beer can. Halcyon has subtle apricot and a heavy passion fruit blast. It's not a gateway sour in the slightest! I need to try more sours by them is the moral of this paragraph. The brewery itself is beautiful. It's huge with heavy wood accents. Loads of picnic tables out front for mild days and nights and the interior has such an open and welcoming vibe. The bathrooms were nice as well. It's located a few blocks from the tunnel bridge and is near some other breweries. If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely consider a return visit. In the meantime, I'm so glad they distribute to Richmond! read more

Lots of hazy IPA's and DIPA's, but they had options for everyone. While we didn't have our pup with us on this trip, we instantly knew Commonwealth was a dog friendly brewery. Went here a few weeks ago and there wasn't a huge variety of beers to pick from, I wasn't impressed. My boyfriend enjoyed his beers IPA's and such, he thought they were OK but not the best in the area. Outdoor seating only. Cute environment and ambiance. There was a huge fly infestation everywhere. I had to cover our drinks with napkins to prevent them from swarming. Also the parking lot was disgusting and had the worst smell I have ever smelt, I think it must have contributed to the fly problem. It smelt like death and actually there were nasty bubbling puddles of filth in the parking lot. I know these things are not specific to the brewery visit but it made us want to get out of there as soon as possible! Yuck! Take care of your property! read more

I've been coming here for the last 3 years and have loved it! I have only ever eaten one item, that one item being the smash burger, usually great. However, this last time I ordered it and it was not up to par. The burger patties were very obviously frozen patties and not a smash burger as it usually is. When I asked multiple staff about this change each one decided the best course of action was to tell me nothing about the "smash" burger has changed when it very obviously had. Appearance and taste were completely off and a place and food item that I'd previously loved, are no longer. Darn shame because I'd appreciated this spot, but the ignorance or lies I faced the day I was served a lesser burger have left me to leaving my first EVER review on any single place I've been before in my life. Hope this helps or provides perspective to anyone looking to attempt to enjoy what appears to be an appetizing smash burger from this establishment. read more

I recently attended a morning yoga event here and really enjoyed it. I've heard of Commonwealth Brewing Co. for a while now but I'm not a drinker so a brewery is not really a place I tend to gravitate too but I love that they have yoga and food trucks for community events. The yoga event was really well done and there were a lot of people there - probably at least 50 or more. We easily all squeezed in and they had cleared the main open space and removed all the tables. With their large glass garage doors the yoga event was bright and relaxing and enjoyable. Two food trucks arrived as well as Baked AF to provide some goodies for those of us who worked out an appetite like burritos, coffee and others. I'd come back for a yoga event in a heartbeat. I think I have been here 112 times throughout the years, and I have never had a bad time. This is my favorite brewery in Virginia Beach. If you're a fruity sour beer chaser, the variety and range they have throughout the year is for you. Even if you're not, Commonwealth's got something for everyone with an arsenal of other beer genres like stouts, saisons, and IPAs. Great place for a first date, or even 80th date. This place is pretty awesome! We came on a holiday afternoon and they were pretty packed. It was hard to find a parking lot but after waiting a bit we were able to find one in the back. They had live music playing that entertained the crowd. They also had a couple pop up companies present: The Coop food truck, which I didn't get a chance to try but am now dying to. (I looked at the menu on the way out.). Smores Amore was also there with their PistachiOMG is a signature blend chocolate brownie leaded with pistachios and covered in chocolate ganache...topped with pistachiosso beer marshmallow. We of course indulged on all 3 they had available today. We went in to check out the scene and it was just "fun!" Live music and plenty of seating makes for a great day! They had a good assortment of house made beers all infused with everything from sea salt, pistachios, cacao, fruits of all kind including kumquats and calamansi. I am not a beer expert by any means, but I will say their Marmalade was delicious (& stout). For those also not much into beer, they do have non alcoholic drinks available such as Kombucha, la Croix, root beer, and sodas. So awesome they allow dogs inside. The inside was a bit loud with the music playing. I like music like the next person, but it was too loud for my little one, my husband had to take him for a walk. Thanks to a collaboration event with S'mores Amore, I was dying to visit this brewery on Labor Day. We got lucky finding parking in the small lot. As soon as we got there, I immediately enjoyed myself in the upbeat atmosphere. Despite the live music being a bit too loud, the inside was communal yet cozy. With a full house it was hard to find seating for all 5 of us, but I loved how it felt natural sitting close to people we didn't know. It was great to see so many dogs hanging out with their humans too! I was tempted to try the Beermosa but there were only two beers available for it, neither of which interested me. Even though it was loud & busy, the bartender took the time to let us try the beers if we wanted before purchasing. I opted for the fruity Side Car which was tart but tasty. Definitely unlike anything I've had before. My first visit here was a pleasant one. I love when breweries team up with local businesses to put on a fun weekend event. I would love to come back on a more casual night to check out the scene. read more

We absolutely loved our pizza once we figured out the self pay situation. There's not really service to speak of since you order and pay for drinks at the counter. They were very adamant about paying food and drink separate. The front counter and food server became annoyed that we asked for a side of dressing. I had to go back to the counter and order another drink to get it and even then they complained. These breweries are nice with open venues, but the view is almost always the parking lot or traffic. I've heard great things about the beer here, however I had mimosas that day and they were lovely. My husband had an iced tea, that was overpriced. He could have had a beer for the same price as an iced tea, so that was annoying as well. Not all patrons are technology inclined and I watched several ppl struggle with the QR self pay system. My husband had to create a new online account in order to pay for our meal. Which he found frustrating, so I ended up doing it on my phone. It took us a good amount of time just to order our food. However, we'll return now that we know the system and it's close to home. Great pizza though! read more

This is my favorite brewery in Va Beach. From the beachy laid-back atmosphere to the interesting beer concoctions and constant new releases, they've got everything I want. I will say the food leaves something to be desired, but the taste and variety of beers make up for where the pizza lacks.
