Shhh! It's one of the few gems that are still hiding in Carlsbad Village. Interim serves up get great quality coffee and espresso with homemade simple syrups. If you want something on the sweeter side then try the ginger fig latte. It's both unique and satisfying! The two owners are really cool and will be happy to tell you their origin story if you ask. They're only open 8am to 2pm so I only make it in on occasion, but I always like grabbing an americano or a bag of their roasted coffee beans. It's nice spot year round because it's quaint and relaxing even on days when Carlsbad Village is crowded and bustling. read more

One of the best lattes i've had in awhile! This place is a total gem and you probably wouldn't catch it unless you were looking for it. It's a tiny shop that can't fit more than 2-3 people. Really great medium roast coffee and love how walkable it is to the beach. Coffee fix adventures continue: A very quaint & inconspicuous coffee shop that was very close to our resort & very highly rated. More of a locals' spot I figure - I think they have a really simple & straightforward menu. Ordered the Cafe Au Lait and it was fine & reasonable price. What an amazing find. This place does not disappoint. They roast and blend their own beans and very obvious they know what they are doing. I think maybe the owner is Ray - he was there both days we visited during our trip to Carlsbad and Patrick was there today as well. Both super friendly. Having walked around Carlsbad for years (specifically up/down/around Carlsbad Village Drive area to/from the beach), I only became aware of this associated parking lot in search of this coffee shop! The shop's exterior and small interior immediately brought a smile to my face with its nostalgic feel; their cool, warmly friendly-&-welcoming and knowledgeable baristas cemented my happy feeling! My first visit was a straightforward Americano. Having learned about their house-made syrups (in which "habanero" captured my interest), I returned for an iced latte with habanero and honey, which I thoroughly savored while enjoying the sights and sounds of the ocean! Just found this hidden treasure! Feels like stepping into a piece of local history -- from the classic Dodge van out front, to the nostalgia of surfboards on the patio, to the old-school skateboard memorabilia inside. The owner/operator was really chill, and the vibes were warm and neighborly in every detail. Awesome little Java Shack is surrounded by fragrant honeysuckle and has a nice relaxing outdoor table & chair seating area. The inside of this Java station has a collection of memorabilia from 45 records to vintage cameras. They even have a small variety of sweaters, wet suits, shirts and other collectibles. The coffee is the prize though! Fresh ground Expresso latte with not to sweet vanilla was my cup of choice! The awesome artwork of the barista put an exclamation point on this fresh brew! We met a couple of German speaking men on the patio and my husband was speaking German with them. My husband had purchased a six pack of Trummer Pilsner beer room temperature at Trader Joe's earlier in the day. He took it out of his car to show them a good beer brand. The owner came out and told my husband he had to put away the carton of beer that was on the table. That was understandable and my husband took it back to the car. Jimmy, a local who helps the owners earlier had said the owner wanted a couple beers and they would give us a cup of coffee in exchange. We had already had coffee at Wildland and we're only checking out Interim Coffee for the first time. We decided to go ahead and give a couple beers away in exchange for a cup of coffee to make Jimmy happy. He said the guys inside would really appreciate it. Later the owner walks up to our table and said we haven't purchased anything and had to leave. I told him can't u see we're drinking a cup of coffee. He said I know that you didn't pay for it, Jimmy gave it to you. My friend Jon interjected and said we have the right to sit here and enjoy our coffee and we're not leaving. I asked him his name 4X but he refused to answer. He suddenly stopped and in an arrogant tone said "I'm the owner". I replied 'I know you're the owner but what is your name?' He refused to answer me. I understand there are two owners. This owner is short, crinkly brown hair with a poor sense of how to treat customers. My other two friends will be writing their reviews as well. read more

Their coffee is really good. I would recommend the Mocha (even though it's one of the more expensive ones). Their chai is better hot (when it is cold it is less flavorful). The decor is a vintage aesthetic, with a reggae sort of theme. The service is at the counter and is actually pretty quick. Would recommend to anyone staying in Carlsbad. read more
