My husband and I reserved their small room for our wedding. It was so wonderful having the space to ourselves. It was a nice small intimate dinner with our closest family. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. They were super patient and willing to work with the 11 of us. Everything was super clean & the staff were all wearing masks. The food was amazing. Everything is shareable. Everyone was happy with what they ordered and there wasn't a single complaint among all of us. We got two charcuterie boards to share with everyone- the cheeses were out of this world and the meats were awesome. The braised pork belly was to die for. I think I could eat it everyday for the rest of my life and not get tired of it. It just melts in your mouth and it's so juicy and tender. The hanger steak was also super yummy, along with the polenta, and the broccolini. With the steak, we ordered it as Medium and it was still mostly pink/red in the middle. I normally get my steaks rare of medium-rare but I'm pregnant and didn't feel like risking it (even though I'm sure I would've been fine). My in-laws got their steak well done and it was also still a bit pink and they really enjoyed it. Overall we had an amazing experience. We will definitely be back soon. Food, ambiance and location are all excellent. Cocktails are a bit spendy for how little alcohol they are allowed to put in them so I'd recommend wine- they have a great selection. Service was pretty good - although they never made it back to our table with the water pitcher after we sat down. The desserts are hilariously enormous, although delicious - a nod to Provo, I guess. Really good meal for my husband and I. Such a creative menu with good service, and we were so impressed by just 2 chefs in the kitchen! I'm editing this because someone from Communal did reach out to me to get more information. It shows someone cares, which I appreciate. We (party of four) walked in forty minutes before it closed in the afternoon (so they could get ready for the dinner crowd), it was very empty of patrons and the lady who came to seat us said it would be ten minutes to "get out table ready". She was quite abrupt. We looked at a menu for a few minutes, staff was walking around, no one was friendly, we finally told the hostess we would just leave and she didn't care one bit. It's really sad how down hill it has gone. It used to be a top notch restaurant with great food and very friendly people. read more

We had a party of six and were fortunate to be seated in the private dining area. This place is awesome. Everything is local farm to table. The butcher the meat in the basement. The name is indicative of the style of eating. Each appetizer, salad, protein, starch and vegetable is designed to be eaten by two. Our table had three types of salad - all were wonderful. We tried the short ribs, the duck and the pork - all very tasty. For starch we had mashed potatoes, red potatoes with a vinegar based seasoning and gnocchi - all very good. For veggies we had the asparagus and snap peas - awesome. For desert we had the rhubarb and strawberry crisp with vanilla ice cream and the butterscotch pudding with chocolate cookie crumbs. I went with my friend and mom, we went right when they opened and the hostess/server was very friendly. We originally sat outside and it was a bit hot so decides to sit inside, the staff accommodated. We did family style and ordered a few dishes to share and everything was so beautifully done and it was delicious. We ordered the Polenta, Pea Tortellini (very unique, fresh, zest taste) - great dish to eat during the fall and their burrata. We really enjoyed our meal and will be visiting again. read more

This is my third time coming to Communal. For the most part, I think Communal is great. Their service is amazing. Places like this tend to have pretentious servers but at Communal, they are friendly and attentive. This time we went a little overboard and order more than we could eat so we tried several of their dishes. The winner for me is the pork belly. It is perfectly caramelized and melt in your mouth tender. The only thing I didn't like about it was that I had to share it with my husband. Other winners were the smashed fingerling potatoes and the fried polenta. Both delicious. I'm not a fan of wasabi so I don't like the sauce but my husband did. The steak was tender but they used an herb in their seasoning that I did not love, and the fried onions were not crisp--that was disappointing. The looser was the trout. It was cooked and seasoned very well, but the fish itself did not have that delicious trout flavor. I'm used to eating wild trout and this was probably farmed and the difference in taste was very much noticeable. Now I can't forget two items that deserve special mention--the rolls and the pomegranate soda. The rolls here are just fantastic and they served them with very good butter. The pomegranate soda was delicious but I wish it it would have had half the amount of ice. Overall another great meal at Communal. read more

I've heard about Communal but never had the chance to visit until now and it lived up to expectations. I had the pork chop which was covered in a nice salty crust with beautiful color to it and a juicy, tender middle. It was served on a bed of sweet potato puree that gave a wonderful sweetness to compliment the salted pork chop meat. The potato cake had a perfect crust on the outside with a warm, buttery center of potato flavor. I'd recommend both. The service was friendly and helpful with menu selections. The food was above average, very good actually for the Provo area. The prices are not inexpensive but not unreasonable for the quality and portion sizes. The decor is clean, trendy, & inviting. It might be the one place in Provo that doesn't feel like your are in Provo. Reminds me more of a New York or San Francisco eating experience. This place has been added to our regular rotation of restaurants. I've never been disappointed. Although their dinner is phenomenal, we typically go for their brunch. You can't go wrong with their Eggs Benedict, or their Pinestate, which is biscuits and gravy with fried chicken and bacon, as far as their savory breakfast dishes go. On the sweet side, their deep fried French toast is also SO good! I would suggest going with a friend or a date if you want to get the French toast, because it is a little sweet if that is all you are getting for your meal. But if you are able to split it with a savory dish, it makes for the best breakfast combination. For a lunch option, I really liked the ham and Swiss sandwich with arugula and fried egg. It had some Dijon mustard on it that gave it a slightly spicy and delicate bitter taste which I really enjoyed. If you haven't tried Communal yet, add it to your list of Provo eats. read more

I did not have a good experience here. I didn't really like one thing I had. My flank steak had the worst char taste I've ever had on a steak; no seasoning flavor at all...just burnt taste. So bad. I asked for medium well and it was not. Most of it was still bleeding and raw. I was so grossed out. The mashed potatoes were very bland, not much flavor at all. Very disappointing. The squash side was pretty good; a little undercooked for my taste but the sauce on them was good. Dessert: we got the apple crumble. Although the crumbles on top we're really good, the rest was very watered down with not much flavor or sustenance. For what we paid, I expected more. Unfortunately we won't be going back. read more
