I started off with the Strawberry Peach Margherita and some Queso for my chips and salsa. The question was really good and I personally liked the salsa. It's a more chunky Tomato Salsa and it's delicious it also has a little bit of a kick to it so the queso balanced it out nicely. I then got the Molcajete for my main course. This thing was huge! I dont eat pork so I asked if the chorizo could be on the side and they were kind enough to bring it out separate. The dish wasn't only big but the flavor was sooooo good. All the meats were cooked with the perfect amount of spices and cooked at the right temperature. The server was super friendly and very fast and efficient. He also sat us. The place is right off a main road so it is easily accessible and there is plenty of parking. Inside the restaurant there is also plenty of seating even if it's busy there are so many tables. Compadres has been a regular stop in our travels on Rt 80, but after this recent visit I doubt we will return. The overall appearance of the restaurant was worn and in need of a thorough cleaning. The food was also disappointing. The chips were flavorless and the salsa was totally bland. I think it is one of the first times at a Mexican restaurant where we did not finish the basket of chips and salsa. Our main courses (tacos and Pollo Crema) were good, but nothing special. I have been here twice. This restaurant is epically, completely, offensively terrible. The cheese enchiladas I think had white American cheese in them, which is a culinary decision akin to serving horse meat in a hamburger. The sauce on top is not good, or fresh, or spicy, or salty. It just... is. Somehow the sauce on the chile relleno is different - actually spicy - but still bad. Like ketchup with tabasco. The cheese is the same. The beans and rice aren't even as good as normal mexican restaurant beans and rice. Even the salsa is tasteless, unspicy, and dull. There are two possibilities I'm pondering with this place. Possibility one is that this place is just terrible, and the people making the food just don't care. Possibility two is even more depressing: that in suburban/rural Western Pennsylvania people can't handle spicy or even mildly exotic and they need America cheese and unspicy sauce, and thus this awful excuse for Mexican food is actually what is preferred. Stopped here with family after shopping at the Grove City outlet stores. We were seated quickly in a pleasantly set up restaurant that was fairly busy. The waiter was pleasant and efficient. The food served quick, hot and tasty. Nice of them to offer a military discount (I'm retired military), and the price for all of us (3 adults, 2 kids) was quite reasonable. All of my buddies at work are constantly buzzing about this place! My favorite is the Pollo con Crema and Pollo Loco, and I seriously could not live without their homemade salsa. The restaurant is casual and family oriented and a great place for a home-cooked Mexican meal. It may not be textbook Mexican, but it is delicious. They are very flexible with the menu and always make any menu adjustments that I have asked. Okay, last month I got fooled by the "crab" in the seafood enchiladas. This time it was the "chile relleno". Usually that's when a chili pepper is filled with cheese, dipped in egg batter, deep fried, and covered in red ranchero sauce. Instead, I got half a plain chili pepper buried under an avalanche of plasticky white process cheese. Yuck! One bite was enough for me. The crispy chicken taco and chicken enchiladas were good, same with the beans and rice. I think I liked the chips and salsa best. No matter what follows, I would give them 5 stars because when the world shut down, these guys were giving out free meals. Go give them your money in exchange for good food. Ordering was simple. Girl on the phone was sweet and every bit as sweet when we stopped to pick up the meals. I get the complaints of it being bland, but this is Grove City and if you were to describe the borough to an outsider, I dare you to not use the the word 'bland'. The meals are good, and massive. You're guaranteed to have leftovers, unless you're a gluttonous slob. It's a solid choice if you're in the area and want Mexican. In all my years the only complaint I can think of is the Chile Relleno. Avoid it and you're all set. Good stuff, seriously. read more

Fresh salsa, great sauces, Finally a decent Chile Relleno (no egg batter, but the sauce and stuffed queso was fantastic). Keep on driving if you're passing through this town. I didn't expect much out of a Mexican restaurant in the middle of western PA and unfortunately reality met expectations at Compadres. The guac was awfully pale and flavorless. I tried the Texas salad with chicken, steak and shrimp. The meats were all very dry and flavorless and came on a bed of sad iceberg lettuce. My companions tried various dishes, including the fajitas, quesadillas, and chicken rice but had the same types of comments. Service was decent, portions are large, and the food won't make you sick, but it's not very good - you get much better quality and flavor at Chipotle, hence the 2 stars. Perhaps for being the only Mexican place in the area, it's a favorite for locals, but I would not stop here again. read more

We asked the manager for a full refund and she got defensive with us told us we ate half so we were only entitled to half off. She continued to argue with us and acted very surprised that we did not like the food. In the end we received a full refund for the meal that we did not like. A friend and I stopped into Compadres on our way home from a trip to Slippery Rock. The food and service were both excellent. The waitress was very friendly and my bi-lingual friend enjoyed conversing with her in Spanish. The paintings in the restaurant were beautifully done. Definitely gave an authentic feel to the place! The meal began with chips and a spicy salsa. I love free appetizers! I ordered the fish taco meal. It was both delicious and generous. It included 2 large fish tacos, deep fried shrimp and fries. It almost felt like two meals. I took my leftovers for the next day's lunch. I had the mango Mexican soda to drink. They offered many other flavors as well. My friend had the burrito meal. There was so much food it came on two large platters. We shared a sopapilla for dessert. It was a tasty finish to the meal. read more

Ever hopeful, I am always open to friend's advice concerning their latest and greatest restaurant find. That's how I heard about Compadres. We stopped by after a happy hike in the nearby woods. We were very hungry. We were seated at a small wooden booth. Our server was very nice. I got my useful strawberry margarita and BJ got a beer. The chips and salsa were a major disappointment. Honestly, the salsa reminded me of jarred salsa rather then fresh. Not a fan. Our meals were served up pretty quickly. Right away I could see that BJ picked the best meal. He got the seafood fajitas. Lots of nice sized shrimp and scallops. I enjoyed the flavor. He really like it, too. But he was not really a fan of the flour tortillas. Just ate here. Food was very very good. The service was probably the worst I have had in a long long time. I did t get chips and salsa until after my meal came and I asked for them but the tables around me were given chips when they arrived. I asked for a to go box and let the waiter know I was done. I have only been here one time, but it was really good! I got takeout and took it back to the hotels up the street and probably didn't eat it until after 25-30 minutes of getting it back to the room and it was still surprisingly warm! They gave me an order of chips and salsa with the meal and that was very good. I had one of the combination meals, the pricing was good. There is good parking, It looked like a big place. This family owned restaurant has been serving great food for more than a decade. As a long term customer I know why they are thriving. Great food served by hard working people. My steak and shrimp fajita quesadilla was tender and juicy. Order the guac if you like creamy texture with nice chunks of avacado balanced by garlic. It's really the best I've ever had. Enjoyed the drink special "Corona margarita". At first I was thinking WTF but it seemed like everyone in the room had one so why not?!? What I notice with corporate restaurant chains is they rely on heavy salt and cheaper ingredients as "filler" and "taste enhancement" to increase their profits. Great if you're a cardiologist or a stock holder but not so much as a diner! Compadres is not cookie cutter Mexican. If you want that, go to Chili's. We ate at Compadre in Grove City Pa last nite. We have never been disappointed with any visit there and last nite was no exception. The food was excellent (as always) as well as the service. One of us had the mini chimi's from the appetizer list. The combination of shredded chicken, cheese & peppers/onion makes us want to go back asap. The queso is some of the best we've had. One of us had a beef quesadilla with side of beans. Both were absolutely delicious. They give a nice size bowl of salsa which is also perfection. We don't live real close to Compadres but will make the trip just for the great food. read more

We came to this restaurant because my wife was hoping for a good margarita. It was cold when we walked through the front door. Air conditioner was working great! They seated my wife and I at a booth and the table was far back so we attempted to pull it towards us. Sorry!! Table was attached to the floor and wall and un movible! We tried the next booth over and it was a better fit. My wife ordered a top shelf margarita. The one she received was sticky sweet and she had to ask them to remake the margarita. They brought her another and it was a little better. My wife ordered a combination one beef one chicken enchilada and asked for queso on the chicken and red sauce on the beef. I saw what is said to be the most ordered item on the menu which was chicken and rice. My wife's food came and both of the enchiladas were covered with white queso. She said that the meat filling still tasted good, but was overwhelmed with the white queso. My chicken and rice was at best ok. These folks have a long way to go to make it in my opinion. The menu is lacking photos, and I believe that they could do much better on their menu choices and come up with some really good tasting recipes. Their salsa was good, and their beer was cold. Maybe over priced for the taste of the food we had. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I come from Texas where there are plenty of Authentic Mexican restaurants where you can find some of the best tasting Mexican food! I went to Compadres before going to the Grove City outlets. Definitely worth it, you get HUGE portions for less than 15 dollars. Chips and salsa come complimentary. I ordered the Lunch Fajitas for 9.99 and it comes with tortillas, lettuce, pico, guac, rice and beans. My chorizo came out piping hot with peppers and onions. I would recommend ordering fajitas without sauteed tomatoes (I'm just not use to eating cooked tomatoes in fajitas). The chorizo was my favorite part and hands down some of the best I've had. I did not need to eat or snack at all while I was shopping! Service is quick and very friendly Lots of parking, very spacious! Bring a sweater if you get cold, the AC is on high! Called in an order at 7:15, they said 10min, ok. Showed up and four waitresses where leaning on each other on the stairs. I said "excuse me" twice and nothing. Finally a guy came to help me. My food wasn't ready so he asked me to wait. I'm ok with that. At 7:57 I got my food. I'm patient but sitting in the waiting area being ignored by the staff is a little ridiculous. Watching them sit on the stairs playing on their phones complaining how busy it is rubbed me the wrong way. Half my food was cold and the other half was hot and one whole dish was missing. Compadres is owned and run by Hispanics. The decor is definitely what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. There are some unique murals on the walls. Every time I go I spot something different. The menu is big and we have tried a lot on it. We have eaten tacos, enchiladas, taco salads, quesadillas, and nachos. When you are first seated they bring you chips and salsa. The chips are thin, salty, and crispy. The salsa is mild with a few bites of heat here and there. All of the food is served hot. Most dishes come with retried beans, sour cream, pico, and lettuce. Most dishes you have a choice of beef or chicken. They even have seafood dishes. No matter what you order they want to make sure you enjoy it. If you like Mexican food this is the place for you. read more

My family and I have passed Compadres a couple of times when we were up in the area but never stopped in, but today we did and we are happy we did. First off they are practicing social distancing and all employees were wearing face masks. Everything was clean and everyone was spaced out at every other table or booth. Great job Compadres!! Now on to the food. To start off the salsa was top notch. Fresh and with a hint of spice. We even made sure to some to come home with us. Next the cheese dip. My children got one with ground meat, but my wife and I got ours with chorizo and added pico to it. The chorizo was not greasy like most places- it was spicy and good. Adding the pico even made it better. My wife and I both got the Burrito Puerto Vallarta - it was the bomb. I can see why it is their best seller. Grilled steak, chicken, rice and beans inside with that spicy chorizo and shrimp on the outside. With a cheese and verda sauce with it. But best of all was a spicy seasoned pineapple rings. Soooooo good! My son got the Burrito Azteca and he loved them too. No take home for him. LOL All portions were huge so you definitely get your money's worth. Walked into the place and was greeted by a nice sewer smell. Not a good first impression! Inside the restaurant has some great murals, but beware of the clowns hanging from the ceiling! I ordered the steak fundido here. It was meh. The steak was OK, with gristle though. It was supposed to come with chorizo, but there really wasn't much. And they put this crappy cheese sauce all over it, which I felt cheapened the meal. Compared to El Canelo on Wilmington Road in New Castle, this place is blah in the food department. My wife and I frequently go to the outlet shops in Grove City and have passed this restaurant several times and have not gone in. Well, we finally had the time so we had dinner at Compadres the other night. It really has a unique atmosphere inside with custom made booths and tables and unusual paint treatments on the walls. The food was excellent and the service very good. They have several "family" dishes on the menu that serve two or more people. We had the Parillada Carnes which was excellent; we ended up taking half of it home. I finally have found a place in Grove City I like! read more
