Dr. Fiona, was recommended to me, by another vet, who was out of town, at the time we needed, an at home, compassionate euthanasia veterinarian. My friend, had used, an at home service, years ago, and told me, it was the way to do this, difficult decision. She was so right. Our Gwen, who was a rescue Scottie, had been diagnosed with widespread cancer, only a couple of weeks before. She was short of breath on Friday, but steadily went downhill over the weekend, until she was unable to eat, refused her puppachino and just sat there, struggling with very breath...it was time. We contacted Dr. Fiona Sunday morning and set up an appointment for 4:30 PM. When started breathing more labored, we asked her to come sooner, if able. She was able to accommodate our request and was at our home by 3:00 PM. She is compassionate, caring, explains everything clearly and gently. Our daughter was able to hold Gwen and when my Husband, who wanted to say a prayer, was unable to, because of his high emotions, she jumped right in, and said the most beautiful prayer with us. She leaves you with a folder, with a lot of useful information, to use, when you are ready. Because we wanted to bury Gwen, in our yard, we didn't want to have to drive her to the local veterinarian office, who was closed on a Sunday, then drive her back. Then we received a beautiful card, in the mail, afterwards. Something we never received from our local veterinarian, nor her oncology Veternarian. Letting go of my li'l guy was one of the hardest things I've ever done. He developed lymphoma and his little body just couldn't take the chemo. I wasn't going to allow him to suffer, so when we both knew it was time, I called our vet. I called Compassionate Care yesterday morning at about 6:30am. Even though I am a loyal Yelper, I didn't check Yelp first, I just googled and called the first two providers I found. Dr. Fiona McCord happened to call me back first and I liked her immediately. My 13.5 Golden Retriever mix, Sara, had been on a sudden but steady decline for a few weeks and the vet as recently as 4 days ago said "it's not her time yet" but my dog gave me a clear sign yesterday morning when as I was stroking her she nipped at me and then immediately leaned in to hug me. What can be said about Dr. McCord that has not already been said? Dr. McCord helped us with the most beautiful and peaceful Rainbow Bridge crossing of our sweet boy Monchy. Monchy became sick in March 2021, and even when there wasn't much hope, and I had reached out to Dr. McCord, I wanted to try and give Monchy the best fighting chance he could have. Dr. McCord was so kind to give me the space and encouragement. Fast forward seven months, and continued health decline and I knew it was time. Dr. McCord was patient and absolutely compassionate. When she arrived, I truly believe that Monchy knew she was there for him and he gravitated immediately towards her. Dr. McCord was thoughtful enough to bring a grieving coloring book for my 7 yr old who was too sad to be part of our farewell and wanted to be at school. Dr. McCord ensured that Monchy had his favorite crackers, and prayed over him. She allowed us the opportunity to say goodbye to him, kiss and hug him as he crossed the rainbow bridge. She took such good care of him as she took him to her car. I knew in that moment that she showed him all the care and love that she knew I would have if I were having to carry him. She made a sad and painful goodbye the most sweetest and gentle. I'm so thankful for Dr. McCord. I miss Monchy every minute, but I know that he left peacefully and full of knowing our love for him. read more

Something I just read on Nextdoor about a family using their vets office to put their dog down reminded me of how thankful I was for Dr. Fiona to come to our home to help us say goodbye to our beloved Labrador, Bailey. Losing a beloved pet is the hardest thing. There are no words for the anxiety and grief I felt when I had to have my beloved schnauzer put to sleep, but he had congestive heart failure and started having weekly strokes. I contacted Dr. McCord ahead of time, telling her all about him, She was so supportive and told me to call her when the time came. He had a very bad stroke, and I knew I could no longer let him suffer. I called her first thing the next morning. She told me she could come to my home same day. I have lost other dogs, and the process never gets easier, but Dr McCord's visit that day took so much anxiety and pain away from my little boy and from me. While I gave him his favorite treat, she gently gave him a shot that would let him fall into a sleep, basically putting him under anesthesia. He was so peaceful. He never felt the fear of the vet, and I didn't have to feel that terrible anxiety of having to take him there. Dr McCord prayed for my sweet boy and me and told me she believed that god had a special place for our beloved pets in Heaven. I feel that way too. That gave me so much peace. Once he was sleeping deeply, she gave him one final injection. He is no longer suffering. She wrapped him in a blanket, placing him in a small bed. She will take your precious pet to be cremated, and see that his/her remains are returned. She follows up, and offers grief counseling. I still grieve for my little man, but I just want to thank her for so very much for making this horrible decision so much easier for me and my boy. When I realized the time was approaching for me to make the heartbreaking decision for my 13 year old Sunny I did some online researching and learned about in-home euthanasia for the first time. Much sooner than I thought the imminent day arrived. Again, I returned to the online resources and the first service I called wouldn't have an available appointment for several days. A close friend sent a photo of Dr. Fiona's business card; the same business card she'd kept on her refrigerator door for the past six years after being so taken by Dr. Fiona when they met that long ago. I can see that there was a Devine design to my calling Dr. Fiona. My heart sank as I left a voice message thinking perhaps I'd have to look even further and worse have to go a different and more "clinical" route due to the timing and urgency for Sunny. To my grateful surprise Dr. Fiona herself returned my call in less than a minute. From the very first moments into our conversation I knew she would be Sunny's angel; the one to deliver to her that much deserved relief and peace. Everything was explained carefully and with kindness. She suggested and we made the arrangements for her to come either that same day (hinging on a cancelation) or the following day although I clearly live way outside of her usual driving area. Upon arrival, everything was explained clearly again, carried out slowly and with total compassion and respect for both Sunny and her family throughout the entire process. Dr. Fiona and Allison were so gentle and sweet about every detail as it was all unfolding. Anyone could have felt the presence of love in the room. There was no feeling of being hurried during this painful time. Instead I got to spend Sunny's last moments in a tranquil and peaceful way with her. The whole event felt as if it were a ceremonious occasion; complete with a gorgeous lei of fresh daisies for my sweet and beautiful Sunny. They allowed all the kisses for as long as I needed. I felt that Sunny was in the best hands possible as they drove away with her. I chose private cremation and within days I had my precious Sunny back home. The thoughtful brochures, cards and personal messages from Dr. Fiona and Allison were just more examples of how seriously they take their roles in assisting family pets and those they're leaving behind. In closing, I realize that you are reading this review because you, too, are having to make a difficult choice. From the bottom of my heart I will tell you that in-home euthanasia is the only answer and that Dr. Fiona is absolutely the only service provider to consider. I'm certain the others that offer similar services (which she thoughtfully and generously provides links to on her website - who does that?!) are wonderful at what they do but I cannot imagine any other service having the same totality of love offered by Compassionate Care Pet Services. They truly are the reason that I was able to experience the loss of Sunny and it seem, amidst the devastating pain, beautiful and very special; just like my "Perfect Dog" so richly deserved. I scheduled an appointment the day before with her and she was so helpful and even on the day of, I noticed my Shorty getting to a point of feeling uncomfortable , so I texted Dr. if she could come earlier it would be appreciated, and she texted right back and came earlier, right at the perfect time actually. She definitely cares a lot about what she does and you can really tell. There was no grief whatsoever in the euthanasia process, especially in the comfort of your baby's favorite spot in their home, I actually felt more relief that she has gone because I don't have to watch her in pain or anxiety no longer. Just thinking of memories we had together when she was energetic and happy makes me a bit sad. But yea, I would have to say paying the couple hundred more to do it at home is well worth it, especially when you care for them as if they were your child. My baby was already sleepy and in bed, and she got to stay in bed in all her warm blankets with me, and the doc just made her feel better and made her extra sleepy and I got to pet and give her kisses during the time. Dr. Fiona McCord helped so much with our unfortunate situation with our little old lady Gia. She had been going downhill in regards to her eating & weight due to kidney disease. My wife and I both though we had at least another year with her. She was a major part of our every day life. After feeding, I noticed she had a purple tongue. Not good.
