WARNING: PET LOSS NOT AT THE FAULT OF THIS VET My 15 year old Boston Terrier, whom I've had since a puppy, had given me all the signs on Saturday night that's his time was coming, intermittent trouble walking, no interest in eating, no energy. I knew MEVC was down the street if I needed it and decided to monitor him overnight, and by 6 Sunday morning I knew it was time for me to make the right decision. I called the Clinic and explained the scenario and they advised me there was no wait, to come as soon as I could. When we arrived, we were immediately seen by Xavier who was the calm, compassionate guide I needed to start this tough process. He explained everything that would happen and made sure my questions were answered. The exams were swift and telling. Dr Paris (?) explained the prognosis with sensitivity and encouragement that I felt was appropriate and supportive. I knew it was time to help him cross that Rainbow bridge whether I was ready or not. I never felt rushed or confused by anyone on the team, they encouraged me to take as much time to make a decision as needed and were there to answer every question. My partner was on the way and I wanted them to be there with us, so the team helped me get my pup comfy with a soft palette on the floor. I remember thinking how utterly clean the room was as I laid there next to him. Xavier came back after my partner arrived to explain to us exactly what would happen next. We spent some time giving him extra lovies, but could not bear to let him linger, we were as ready as we were gonna be. The Dr administered the meds, all while lovingly petting my pup and telling him what a good boy he was. There was no signs of distress in his quick painless passing, only peace and caring support from the Dr. and team. We were able to say our goodbyes and I love yous to our special boy in a caring and compassionate place full of people who genuinely wanted to support us. RayeAnn at the front desk explained the aftercare process to us and guided us through what was possible and how things would go. She met us with the same caring energy and sensitivity as the rest of the staff and was expert at dealing with a customer in utter shock and devastation. I felt like she wanted to help and was happy to be there to support. Like a friend would be. I want to post this terribly vulnerable review so someone else can choose this location without doubt on how one of the hardest days can go as well as possible. I'm grateful I chose to bring my pup here and that this team could start me on the right path with great caring, compassion and empathy, they are doing just what they should be. This day was one of the hardest I have had and I'm not sure I could feel better about it, but their guardianship and supportive influence made it easy to do all that was needed. Record all conversations! My pet was brought in and diagnosed with parvo. My regular vet said the records didn't even show a parvo test and found other discrepancies when he reviewed the medical record. Jennifer Pierotti wanted over $6000 to hospitalize him but we could not do that. For treatment, they gave him items to take home. At the facility, they only gave him an antibiotic shot and subcutaneous fluids. They said this would be repeated the next day. I was required to pay the entire charge upfront for the whole 2 day treatment. I was told to bring him back in 24 hours and to call before coming so they could have treatment ready. She said there was a parvo shot but would not give it to him unless he came back for the 2nd day of treatment. The next day he declined before the 24 hours. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I called -as instructed, ALEX, the receptionist said they could only hospitalize him, she said they had told me the night before to hospitalize him and that there would be an additional charge to bring him back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She then said they have other dogs that are hospitalized to care for. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After excessive back and forth conversation with her, when I asked if she had even looked at his records, she said no, then pulled them up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After reading she said to bring him in as it said he would come back the next day. This back and forth over the phone was for over an hour; time that took away from him being treated. Nor is she medical staff to be diagnosing, especially by phone. By the time I brought him after arguing the treatment plan with ALEX, he was unresponsive. They said I should have just came in vs. calling first but I told them I was given instructions to call first so that treatment could be ready when he arrived. When I arrived I told ALEX I had recorded our conversation and she indicated they record theirs as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff did apologize for her behavior and agreed I shouldn't have been told hospitalized pets take priority over pets sent home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The new vet seen 12/25/24 said to consider euthanasia. I agreed because he was that far gone by then. They couldn't even get the needles in him because of the state he was in. He ended up passing before they could complete that procedure within 5 minutes of being there. He died on Christmas which regardlesss it's upsetting but to behave that way on a holiday made it even worse. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then after their rude behavior and lack of care they sent a sympathy card signed by staff-including ALEX who absolutely showed her lack of empathy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While waiting I overheard the conversation in the back where they were charging a man almost $10,000 for his pet and he had paid all but $1000 but they woudn't start treatment with fluids until it was paid in full. During our initial visit, for the conversations I overheard, every pet required "hospitalization". I disputed the charge for the 2nd day because my pet didn't receive his treatment and they refused to release that part of the charge. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called today for management information and the next receptionist, Raeann mistaked me for "the lady who was upset about the antibiotics", I told I never spoke with her before but I'm glad she mentioned they apparently have a habit of making their customer's upset as I was recording the conversation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She finally gave me the information requested. This is not a knee jerk review, over 3 months have passed and their behavior is still the same based on my conversation with Raeann today. This facility doesn't care about the animals and just overhearing conversations the solution to all issues is "hospitalization" which costs thousands of dollars. If you cannot do that they send home band-aid care treatment and if you need to come back per that treatment you are mistreated by the office staff. I feel they are only treating pets for profit not for care and question the need that all issues require "hospitalization". I'd also be curious to know the percentage that give this facility a good rating were those who paid thousands of dollars for "hospitalization" as per Alex those are the pets who get ANY priority treatment. read more

Incredible people doing extraordinary things. Our Doberman underwent emergency surgery at his regular veterinarian's office, and we elected to bring him to MEVC for overnight observation before bringing him home the next day. What should have been a straightforward surgery resulted in complications we never expected. The doctor at MEVC that night gave us a call to let us know our boy was dealing with an acute kidney injury resulting from anesthesia. He spent over a week in MEVC's care and then had multiple follow-up visits over the course of the next week before we could get an appointment scheduled with a critical care doctor in Dallas. What we experienced in our time at MEVC was truly special. Every single person we spoke with over the course of the last couple of weeks made time to talk with us and ensure they answered every question we had, genuinely empathized with us, and understood what we were feeling. We were able to call any time, day or night, and get an update on our boy's status. When we'd come to visit in the evenings, they allowed us as much time with him as they possibly could. Most important of all, however, is that they genuinely cared for him - medically and emotionally. He spent so long in their care, I think we had an opportunity to work with just about every one of their doctors - and every one of them took time to carefully explain what his test results meant, what treatment options existed, and how he was responding to treatment. The techs ensured he was comfortable, providing him with extra blankets to "nest" in when we told them he likes to burrow under blankets to sleep. They spent time with him, talking to and bonding with him. We know this because we literally watched it happen and can see the connection he formed with them. They made sure he never felt abandoned and showed him the same care and love that we give him at home. While I filled out paperwork, my dog was ushered to the back where they did blood work and various basic tests to check on her. We never felt rushed and Dr. Will seemed to genuinely care about my dog's wellbeing. Hello everyone. I am posting this in the hope that no one else has to deal with the pain McKinney Emergency Veterinary clinic caused my dog Remy. We took Remy into the ER Saturday 6/22 because he was having bloody diarrhea. They called later that night saying he was improving and they were happy with his progress so far. Then Sunday night one of their Doctors called to inform us that they placed a catheter in his leg incorrectly and that the skin in that area had died and turned black. As well as had a leather like feel to it. So we picked him up early the next morning so we could take him to Cross Timbers, our normal vet, so he could receive some real care. The wound on this leg that was so serious that the vets were concerned that he would lose his leg. Thank God that he didn't. But because of the wound he has to endure 9-10 weeks of wound care, 2 times per week, and he has to wear a cone until it is healed. And they still had us pay them over $3,000 for the visit that we will not be getting back. Luckily we are able to pay for that and the weekly wound care bills, but not everyone is as fortunate. That is another reason why I feel it is my responsibility to bring awareness to the horrific neglect Remy had to endure at McKinney Emergency Veterinary Clinic. And the fact they did not take any responsibility for the wound they caused and did not offer any financial compensation. read more

After 3-1/2 hours there with my dog, and $1100, the vet said they could not find any blockage for my baby's urinary problem; no stones. Then the next day I called so they could catheterize him until my vet opened on Monday. They said I could come in and THEY WOULD TYPE UP A NEW DOLLAR ESTIMATE!! MONEY before pain and the vet had told me if I need to come back Sunday, no problem. I visited this veterinary clinic with my dog and was presented with a large bill, offering only two options: a $10,000 surgery or euthanasia. The procedure was for a condition called "pyometra," a complication arising from not spaying a dog. I was shocked at the price difference, as a standard spaying cost is around $200. They justified the cost due to the age (9) and small size (8 lbs) of my dog. Unsatisfied, I took my dog home to seek a second opinion. To my surprise, I found another vet who performed the same surgery for just $750. This experience left me dismayed, especially with the suggestion of euthanasia as an option in front of my children. I want to thank McKinney Emergency Veterinary Clinic for saving my 15-year old pug's life a few weeks ago. My pug suffered a heat stroke on Sept. 29, 2023. I rushed him to my nearest emergency vet hospital. At first, his diagnosis was pretty grim. In fact, the vet (Rachel Parris), who was amazing, prepared me for the possibility that my pug may not survive the heatstroke and discussed possible euthanasia with me. I was crushed of course. I then agreed to have them keep and monitor my pug overnight while he was intubated, plus a round-the-clock nurse to watch over him. They also kept me posted throughout the day, night and early morning on his condition. The next morning, I received the best news. My pug's bloodwork has improved overnight and his color has also gotten better. I was able to pick him up later afternoon the following day. The best part...I received a partial refund. I was informed that they did not use all the money I had paid towards my pug's emergency treatment and therefore, it will be refunded back to my credit card account. I'm not sure what surprised me more; the fact that they saved my nearly lifeless pug, or the refund! :) Phenomenal and honest vets at McKinney Emergency Veterinary Clinic! There are literally no words that I can write in this review of how wonderful and caring the staff is! My 3 month female German Shepard got attacked by an adult large male dog that was off leash. The staff took immediate action, and have been in constant communication with us. She has to stay overnight, but I know my furbaby is in awesome care! On Sunday, my baby took his last breath.. one of the most traumatic moments of my life. I took him to McKinney Emergency Animal Clinic in order to get his cremation in order. I was left to make decisions regarding where my baby would be kept only hours after his passing. I ordered the MAHOGANY urn along with a clay paw print. I was told it would take about a week for him to be ready for pickup. I was called on Wednesday being told that my baby was ready for pick up. Of course, this was the little pick me up I needed right before the holidays, something to be thankful for. The woman I spoke with did not mention the paw print at all..when I asked if it was also there her response was that she did not know. Why would you make a call to a grieving person without having all of the information of what is there for pick up when money has been spent. Regardless, I remained hopeful. This was very short lived as the urn displayed to take home was absolutely not the urn I ordered. The a different receptionist checked the file and realized that it was, in fact, the wrong urn. My question at this point is why is there not a process to check these things before calling customers for pick up? Is losing a loved pet not enough? Getting my hopes up right before the holidays just to then tell me you don't have a lot of information of when my baby will be returned IN THE CORRECT URN. I am very disappointed with the cremation service, Toothacres, you all use because this was very obviously a rushed job. How am I even to trust that it is going to be MY BABY in the returned urn? I am even more disappointed that the receptionist could acknowledge how distraught I was when I first brought him in, but NOT ONE EMPLOYEE thought to take an additional 3-5 minutes to compare the order with the product before calling. I would say thank you for ruining my holiday, but I am not thankful at all. This entire experience made it very difficult to read the card where multiple employees claimed to care about my me & my baby but none of them made sure the product was correct before calling for pick up. It's a real slap in the face. There should be a higher level of care and not just with words, but with action. I just want my baby home and now here I am on Thanksgiving..not feeling very thankful at all, wishing I could at least have my baby home in his new form. Not one update has been given regarding when I can expect him to be returned to me when the facility had an hour to call the cremation service and get an answer before they closed. Came here after Frisco Emergency turned me away (called them before I left my house, asked if they had room, they ironically filled up during my 15 minute drive there). So I came here - (called in the car, said they would not be turning me away so I proceeded to come). Cut to 20 min later, I arrive, they take us to a room, tell us it might be a bit of a wait because he is stable and not urgent (which is understandable). About an hour later they finally took him back and said "His nail was cut so badly we need to give him some lidacaine to numb his toe then trim the entire nail back so its not painful and it will grow back normal". They also put some powder to stop the bleeding. And... best part of all... they were able to handle him like a champ. Sampson is a longhair chihuahua who likes to pretend he is the boss and snap at anyone but they put a tiny muzzle on and had a good grip to give him his medicine injection and he literally felt better that night. Thank goodness for the good staff at this place. They really provide great service. I will just go here next time instead of Frisco.... cost was $137 to just walk in the door on a saturday afternoon... but, I guess you get what you pay for. Total bill was $340 for exam, injection, antibiotics, and take-home pain meds and fixing his broken nail. All in pretty expensive BUT again, also good service so I guess you get what you pay for. read more

Our sweet dog, Louie, took a turn for the worst and we rushed him to the vet. The staff and Doctor were all absolutely amazing. It was a terrible situation but they did everything right. They were straight forward about how bad his condition was, spoke clearly, and allowed us to hold our baby until his last moments. When I picked up his paw print, the entire staff had hand signed a special card for us and it was so meaningful. I rescued Louie when I was in college and he was 4 years old. Our cat suddenly became very ill on a Sunday evening, needing immediate medical attention. We found MEV online, reviews seemed good. Check-in was quick and simple, and the wait time to get an examination room and see the veterinarian was short. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was determined that our cat was stable/not in a critical state, so we were given a choice to keep him at the facility overnight, or give him nausea medicine and fluids and bring him home for monitoring.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was recommended that we take our cat to our regular vet in the morning. We brought our cat home. The doctor was up-front with her opinion and did not attempt to play on our emotions, which we really appreciated. We did take our cat to our regular vet the next day, and what caused the illness is still a mystery, but our cat is on the mend. We ended up at this location because it was recommended to us by another Vet. I called before going I was told I would have to go in fill out some paperwork and they would get a exam to make sure he's stable, when I arrived there was a older lady at the front desk, don't remember her name glad I didn't. She had short hair and was speaking with a lady in front of me checking out with her little baby. I sat down and was talking to the lady in front of me as they were finishing her up. After she walked out the door I was expected to be greeted but nothing.. I walked over and she looked surprised and I told her I've never been there before and she asked what was going on with my dog, I informed her he wasn't eating, he was lethargic, and couldn't poop and when he tried it was brown and red liquid, smelt like blood for sure, and vomiting. She said well it's gonna be a 4 hour wait and I told her okay, and if I could take him home. It was over 100 yesterday my AC doesn't work too well I wasn't gonna let my little boy suffer and be more uncomfortable, NO WAY. she was so hesitate and unclear on her answer, "Clients who come in here typically wait here or in their cars." Not once did she say no i couldn't take him home. I'm 11 minutes down the street they call me at 9:28pm I left that place at 6:50 so obliviously not 4 hours which I was thankful for. I answered and she's was like "umm I'm just calling to see where y'all were at" and I said I'm just down the street I could be there in 10. She's like "umm let me look and see where you guys are at", she then had a some chuckle because she obviously didn't like that we weren't near by and she was like well did you tell anybody you were leaving because we typically have patients wait here or in their car and I said yes and she's like do you know who you spoke to and I said I don't remember the name but a lady at the front desk. She said that would be me, I told well yess I did tell you. She continued to ask me if i just wanted to watch him over night and come the next day which would be today (a Saturday) so you can charge me the Saturday Fee no thank you i see what you're doing.. i then told her no I've had issues with him before because a groomer didn't pop his anal glads and i hope this isn't a repeat of that. She then said she had to put me on hold... we know what that means... LIES! Miraculously she said the doctor was going into emergency surgery. How does that make any sense... to further understand, there was only one doctor in today which is why the wait was long and I totally understand and respect. (I was so nice and respectful to the very end of the phone call because that's who I am) Although why call me to see where I'm at and not lead with the doctor has an emergency surgery... oh wait because it was all bullshit. They obviously don't care about animals or else they would have just told me to bring him in even if they had to take the dog that was after me before me. I would have respected that more. I told her "thank but Ima take him else where you guys obviously don't wanna take or see us so you could have just said that have a goodnight" she said "you too" I worked management and let me tell you, you guys need a new person at the front desk... As customers that is the first and last person we see so they set the standards on the whole company believe it or not. I feel bad that I'm giving a bad review on the place when I never even met the doctor just the lady at the front desk but in most cases that's all it takes for you to lose a customer. She never smiled she never once sounded happy about her job. I told her In the waiting room "don't worry it's Friday" because there were other clients getting out of their car to bring their baby in from the curbside and her face look so disgusted... "like ugh are kidding me...." She never responded to what I told her. I understand she might be having a bad day but that should never reflect onto her customers. My Advice for the company is to call the customer 10-15 minutes before you guys are actually ready to see them to let them know they are next and to be ready for the second call. It would help you guys and the customers. read more

The staff here is painfully slow! Plan on being here over 3 hours at a minimum no matter how small the medical issue is with your pet. Drive further for better and quicker service. read more

Our dog got quickly ate a dropped pill this morning. My wife called the office to let them know they were coming in, but the office refused to see him because they were closing in 30 minutes. To refuse to initially triage him while waiting for our vet to open, in my opinion, demonstrates the lack of care and compassion the staff has for animals. read more
