The latte was perfect and not that horrific sweetness that tends to be the hallmark of most places these days and the lemonade was fresh and perfect for a lightly sunny drive over to the West Side. I knew I had to have the English muffin from the moment I saw it. We requested it simply toasted with butter and jam and shared each half. As it cooled, some pleasant citrus notes started to come through and the drink became more enjoyable. Overall, a solid coffee shop with great atmosphere. There was definitely some caramelization that occurred in the oven. The croissant as a whole was very flakey as well -- not something you want to eat in a car where you'll get crumbs everywhere. I didn't feel like the croissant necessarily needed the powdered sugar on top. My guess is that the powdered sugar was included to mimic the appearance of an almond croissant that folks are more familiar with. First, my friend ordered a chrysanthemum drink only to be told they were out, something that wasn't noted anywhere on the kiosk. The worker pointed her toward the fridge with zero additional instruction. Naturally she picked a drink and opened it, as anyone would. A few moments later the same worker comes over, asks for the bottle, grunts, sighs, and says "did you open this?" When we said yes he shook his head, muttered that she wasn't supposed to, and walked away. No explanation, no apology -- just attitude. He came back, poured it into another cup with ice, and that was that. The second incident was equally frustrating. After I ordered and paid for the Mango Slush Coconut Milk, he came back to tell me they were out of coconut milk and asked if I'd be okay with regular milk. As someone who is lactose intolerant, I said no and asked him to show me my options. He walked away without a word, disappeared into the back, and then came out telling me my drink was ready. I double checked that it was coconut milk and not regular -- he confirmed and walked off. The drink tasted off though, noticeably more mango heavy than coconut milk forward, which made me wonder about the ratios. And what was strange is that after being told there was no coconut milk, it somehow reappeared. Make it make sense. The concept here has real potential and I hope they find their footing, but between the mediocre food and the communication issues, I won't be making a return visit anytime soon.

They claim that their pastries are homemade, but they often don't taste very good, and there are containers from Costco. Other reviews have mentioned that many of their pastries are from Costco as well, which is just straight-up false advertising. When I have ordered pastries here, they have often come out simultaneously burnt yet still cold, or never the right temperature. Service is hit or miss. Oftentimes, the person who works at the front seems really apathetic and unfriendly. The music playing outside is really loud, and they refuse to turn it down, so it makes it impossible to hang out or get any work done in their outside seating area. And alarm bells in my head always go off when I see a business owner respond to a review in the tone that the owner did to one of the reviews on here.
