Dr. Mitchell is simply amazing!! This woman is not only friendly, personable and caring, she is highly skilled!! For years, my daughter struggled with warts on her hands. The previous dermatologist utilized several techniques from freezing to using "Beetlejuice." Nothing worked so I "Yelped best Dermatologists" and Dr. Mitchell's name popped up as being the best in the area. True enough, with one visit, Dr. Mitchell's treatment got rid of all the warts! It's been over a year, warts gone and my daughter is no longer embarrassed to shake hands with others!! That being said, I myself, experienced dark patches around my forehead from hair dye which caused hyper pigmentation. After trying expensive skin lightening products, while plastering on gobs of concealer each day, I decided to consult Dr. Mitchell. Truth be told, I had my reservations. However, just a few days of applying a prescription cream, amazing results!!! I do not ever leave my house without some sort of foundation or powder on my face due to being self conscious of the skin discoloration. For the first time in years, I went make up free!! My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Bodnar for years. He saved my husband's life by finding a melanoma very early. Dr. Bodnar has always been very pleasant and attentive. I have tried to schedule an appointment for a year. Finally got one scheduled only to show up today and office is closed due to a flood. I get it. Stuff happens but common courtesy and professional responsibility would be to contact patients to reschedule. I took time off of my job to get to appointment on time. This like most medical places have strong back end staff- Doctors, MA. nurses etc but the real issue comes when dealing with the incompetent front end staff. Its been a week and I still have had no communication other then from the Doctor telling me that on Monday they would find a solution to the problem that the medication they prescribed is 400 dollars a month. Monday came and went with no contact from this office. I called numerous times only to be treated like a idiot/pos. Finally after a couple more days of no calls, or medication I canceled my upcoming appointment and decided to go back to self managing with with what I can find rather then deal with this clown show. During this final call I was Only then presented with a manager. A little to late honestly how much is one to take . I mean you cant fix stupid/ignorance. Seems like this place needs better management/accountability. To give an example they provide patient portal but DR Rietkerk your DR isnt in there LOL, or the fact no one answers or calls you back when promised they will. Cash Patient- The Good: Physician's Assistant was caring. The Bad: Can't get the medication prescribed from the appointment and their front desk staff (Terry) became rude after 3 weeks of trying contacting the office to get the medication perscribed from the appointment. There would be no reason to call if it the medication was ready & able to be picked up so being rude to us and saying it's out of their hands when following up, felt, like they are blowing us off. Overall I would not recommend this facility, especially if you're coming out of pocket. read more

Dr. Kamell is the best! I've had two procedures done to my scalp due to having cysts on it. Both times he did exemplary work while being thoughtful and distracting. When you're getting a procedure and your nerves take over, it's good to have a distraction to keep you busy. Nurse Michelle is also very thoughtful and kind. She takes the time to listen to you and is comforting when anxiety hits. Her smile scares away the most cumbersome worries. All in all the whole staff at the office from when you first walk in to when you check out is great! read more

I was a patient of Dr Kamal for 19 years. After he retired took 3 visits for my Wife and I to never go back. Left me waiting for 45 mins. There was a line at the front desk so I tried to call from inside the lobby. I saw the lady pick up the phone not put it to her ear and just hang up. Unprofessional, most of the staff are young and are in school for other things, no focus on the job at hand. These young walk around the office not wearing masks while everyone else is Required to wear a mask. After all that I left, I called on my way home to speak to the office manager and they disconnected me. I am DONE Dr. Rietkerk is a good dermatologist but that office THE WORST. read more

Dr. Bodnar has been my dermatologist for three years now and I would recommend him to anyone looking for one. He is personable, highly competent and efficient, which make for nice, quick appointments. The front office and nursing staff are also very sweet and the new office is beautiful. Appointments can get a bit backed up right before lunch and at the end of the day, because they are trying to get you in to be seen as soon as possible, but if you can avoid those times, the wait is minimal. I have only seen Dr. Bodnar, but I have heard nothing but good things about the rest of the doctors. It's an all around great practice. read more

I had been a patient of Dr. Kamell for years and his office staff ruined my whole experience and unfortunately I will not be supporting this practice any longer. I was changing insurances and I had given Ivette a call since she runs the front desk prior to arriving to my appointment asking her if I was still good to see Dr. Kamell. She admitted on a recorded line saying "yes you are covered till the end of the month". Well I continued to get my blood draw so that Dr. Kamell could have my results to monitor and when I arrived to my scheduled appointment Ivette came up to me apologizing that she had thought I was still going to be covered but I wasn't. She admitted to my face that she had told me yes but that she had not checked the actual insurance benefits until I arrived that day. Therefore I would be responsible for the blood draw out of pocket and the visit to Dr. Kamell. I decided to end my treatment that day and not see Dr. Kamell. Well now I received a $300 blood draw bill and I contacted the office manager Aaron and I asked for his assistance on how to address this because I was not expecting a big bill. Aaron had told me it was ultimately my responsibility to check on my own insurance but he doesn't understand that I had trusted Ivette who had enough experience with my insurance since I had been consistently seeing Dr. Kamell every month. Unfortunately no one wants to help me and I am left with a $300 bill all because their office staff had given me the green light to continue getting my blood draw and schedule appointments. Very upset that this thriving business could not sympathize and use business funds to help pay for an expense that was caused by one of their employees. Ultimately if they would have apologized and helped pay I would go back and see Dr. Kamell he really did help with the acne I was experiencing. Just be aware of the staff and the irresponsibility. Doctors could be great but the office staff is the one you have the most interaction with. read more

She has terrific bedside manner and is very thorough with any procedures she will be performing recognizing your concerns. When I asked Siri who the best dermatologist is in Thousand Oaks- she said "Dr. Mitchell" and she was right. I am very thankful for having such a good experience but sad that I won't be coming back! After reading the review posted from 5 months ago, I wonder where the real issue is. I have been a patient here for almost two years. I have had multiple procedures performed by Dr. Mitchell and am very pleased with how I am treated and the level of professionalism. I have asked as well to have more than one procedures completed on the same day. If it just a simple mole removal, she will take care of more than one site during a visit. I have up to four at a time done. If it's an actually surgery, and additional tissue needs removed, Dr. Mitchell will let you know she will do just one and her reason why. She is worried more of your comfort level and ensuring each surgery heals well before doing the next. She even apologizes when giving you shots if you flinch. A caring and professional practice to be seen by. Just remember, you're not the doctors, they are. read more

Incorrect Cancer Diagnosis-Now Have Large Facial Scar I had an area on my face biopsied by Dr. Rietkerk months ago. The results were taking a long time so I went to another dermatologist and had a second biopsy on the same area. Dr. Rietkerk called shortly thereafter and apologized for taking so long on my results. He told me the biopsy came back positive for cancer and it would need to be removed. I scheduled a Mohs surgery with Dr. Kamell at this office. A few days later the second biopsy results came in and were negative. I was puzzled so I called Conejo Dermatology and explained the second biopsy had yielded negative results. I received a call back and was told Dr. Kamell had double checked my pathology in their in house lab and it was definitely cancer and needed to be removed. I decided to err on the side of caution and went ahead with the surgery as scheduled. When surgery came and my growth was removed, Dr. Kamell returned to the room and seemed surprised. He told me there was no cancer. I reminded him about the second biopsy which had been taken at a dermatologist office in Calabasas that used an outside lab. When I later read over my patient data I did not see any notes of Dr. Kamell where he double checked the original biopsy. I don't believe Dr. Kamell ever checked this. When I questioned Dr. Kamell again he told me they had made a mistake and I had not needed the surgery. He also assured me I would not be charged for the surgery. I pointed out the large scar on my face. Dr. Kamell told me he would have to go back in and cut some of the scar tissue out. Unfortunately, the scar is very visible and when I look at it I get upset. I am a single mother of three children who not only was impacted by the fires this year but am now in the middle of a teacher strike. Money is quite tight. The scar is so upsetting that I am taking a loan out to have a plastic surgeon try to make improvements. read more

For those of you who have wonderful insurance this is a very good provider. For those like me with very high deductibles and not yet eligible for Medicare, I have to get prices so I can fit things like MOSE procedures into my budget. The quotes were $537 for the MOSE procedure and $380 for another minor procedure. I paid both bills at the time of the procedures and today received another bill for $400+?! I called and after much discussion it seems that they hadn't yet billed me for 'repairs', which she explained was the stitches. Neither procedure had any complication so everything should have been as quoted. I guess it didn't occur to me that because they were cutting my skin I might also need stitches and should have gotten quotes for that too. Hmmmm read more

After being treated poorly by the receptionist, I went back to Dr. Mitchell. Such a wise decision! She is worth the extra mileage. Dr. Bodnar is a very smart man but only spends 5 minutes with his patients and is only interested in recommending procedures and surgeries to his patients. I was in his exam room for 3 minutes and he immediately recommended surgery or a free sample cream which he said would probably not work. This has been a trend with him over the years. He's all about quantity of patients and procedures of quality. He's very competent in procedures but don't go to him unless you have truly great insurance. read more

Pretty sure it's two different schedules for doctors because I was seeing people who came in after me go in before me. When called back staff was very short with me, as well as Doctor. Let me start by saying that I have had a lot of moles removed by many a dermatologist. No one is more gentle and more thorough then Dr. Mitchell. Honestly, her injections are painless and I never have any complications after my procedures. I started seeing Dr. Mitchell about three years ago and I could not be happier. I have never had any dermatologist photograph concern areas so that those areas could be assessed over time. This allows her to no only be conservative in her treatment, but have a comparison should something change. I see her every 6 months like clockwork. The staff is super nice and very efficient. They remind me of my appointments, bill my insurance and the best part of all is that they remember me when I arrive and always have a smile on their faces. I went to Conejo Dermatology today after leaving another Thousand Oaks practice where I have been going for over 15 years. The other practice had treated me for regular check ups and two MOHS procedures for squamous cell carcinoma. I finally got fed up with the revolving door of doctors at the practice. This brings me to my experience at Conejo Dermatology. I called Monday and explained my history with skin cancer and that I was concerned about a spot on my back that had just cropped up. They worked me into a cancellation for Wednesday. (When I had called my previous provider, I was told it would be at least a month to see any doctor and they didn't do cancellation call backs, but I could call as often as I wanted). When I arrived at Conejo Dermatology to see Dr. Mitchell, I was pleased to see a beautiful facility and each doctor had a separate receptionist and check-in station. I went to Dr. Mitchell's section where the receptionist reviewed may paperwork, and asked me to have a seat. I was seated less than five minutes when a nurse escorted me to an exam room and verified why I was there. When I gave her my history she asked if I wanted a full body check while I was there. (That is something that took months for me to schedule at my previous place). I said yes and the nurse left and said the doctor would be in soon. About three minutes later, Dr. Mitchell came in and introduced herself and after a little discussion about my history she completed the exam, froze some pre-cancerous spots on my face and took care of the spot on my back. She was very professional, caring and compassionate. She had the nurse e-mail a prescription to my pharmacy and scheduled a six-month skin check for January. Needless to say, I will be switching to Conejo Dermatology for all of my future needs. As an aside, it was nice not to be bombarded with TV videos for cosmetic procedures in the waiting room or see cabinets full of over-priced cosmetic products there also. They also had Wimbledon on the big screen. read more

First- he was super patient and knowledgeable. I had a lot of questions, I was nervous but there was no need, it was easy. I even called later with just one more (or two)! He called me back that day. I cannot recommend Conejo Dermatology more. I saw Dr Mitchell after seeing three other (separate) dermatologists who couldn't be sure what the cause of my rash was but their best guess was: "it's a medication allergy" and I should just stop taking my medications one-by-one until I figured it out. None of them actually examined, touched, or inspected the rash close-up (location:legs & arms). Knowing something was wrong I moved on and was so pleased with the kind, professional and thorough treatment by Dr. Mitchell! She examined the rash, took photos, and having a suspicion of what it was, also took 3 biopsies. She also contacted my regular doctor to keep him in the loop. Both recommended a neurologist consultation and between the biopsy results and the neuro exam, we have a diagnosis. Even though it is bad news for me I wouldn't have a diagnosis at all were it not for Dr. Mitchell's intelligent & astute observations, and her conscientious follow through. I will go forward hoping for the best possible outcome but I will never forget Dr. Mitchell and her commitment to her profession. read more

I have seen Dr. Rietkerk for medical and cosmetic reasons. When I suffered a rash on vacation he was able to see me right away and provide me with the medical care I needed. He was easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable. I also have a lot of skin damage I have suffered from sun burns as a child. I regularly see Dr. Rietkerk to monitor freckles and moles that are of concern. He has taught me what to look for since skin cancer runs in my family. I have also seen Dr. Rietkerk for Botox. This was a procedure I was nervous to try, but he was only applied small amounts to make it look natural. I would definitely do it again and can't wait to see him for this in the near future. I go to Dr. Rietkerk for all my dermatology needs and recommend him to all my family members and my husband's family members. My family had a terrible experience with Conejo Dermatology Group. Our long time dermatologist retired so we tried this group. My family and I have seen both Dr.Bodnar and Dr.Mitchell. They were both unsympathetic in general. My two teenage daughters were being treated for acne. My husband needed to have two small cancer spots removed from his back. Although our insurance was able to cover both procedures Dr. Mitchell wanted to do them separately. She finally agreed to the procedures at one appointment. Two days after my husbands stitches were removed i received a letter from Dr. Mitchell. Our family was, in politically correct language, told we were not welcome back. How appalling! It is obvious Conejo Dermatology Medical Group is more interested in multiple billing for simple procedures than their patients well being. I have a deep respect for Physicians and how dedicated the doctors my family and I go to are. There are so many wonderful caring Doctors. Unfortunately the Doctors at Conejo Dermatology do not fall into this category. My advice, stay away! read more

I am not a fan of doctors but I had a spot on my leg that needed to be checked out. I went to Dr. Mitchell at Conjo Dermatology on a referral and I am so glad i did! She removed the spot (that did end up having bad cells) and was gentle and quick. I had no complications and it healed nicely. With having such a good experience I decided to take my son (18 months old) in to get an allergy patch test performed. She was so amazing with him. She was patient, calming, and very sweet. I have had nothing but good experiences here with the Doctors and office staff and would highly recommend going here. read more
