Ambiance rate 7/10. My boyfriend and I ordered... 1. Medium Cup of Ice cream: This included one scoop of "vanilla/peanut butter" ice cream, and "rich and famous (Vanilla Ice Cream, chunks of brownie, Cookie Dough & Chocolate Swirl)." I also added peanut butter sauce and cookie dough bites. Both ice cream flavors had good flavor to them, and it had a generous amount of toppings. Rate 8.5/10. 2. The Coney Waffle: This included 3 scoops of ice cream in their signature coney waffle cone shaped into a taco. It had a scoop of cannoli, "rich and famous," and "the king (peanut butter banana)." Each ice cream flavor was yummy. However, the waffle cone was mediocre. Rate 8/10. 3. Red Velvet Cookie: This half pound cookie had a super sweet chocolate flavor to it, not so much red velvet. However, it was still good to eat. Rate 7/10. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. If I miraculously have any room left over after gorging myself at a nearby Asbury restaurant, this is always a stop. The ice cream is delicious, the flavors offered are varied/unique, and the additional products are excellent too. I'm very much a cup person when it comes to ice cream (I don't like the experience being marred by constant vigilance/paranoia over whether the ice cream is about to melt from the cone to my paw), but this is the one place I'm willing to go with the cone, both for superficial optics and because they're genuinely tasty. I had a Hawaiian Punch-flavored cone a few years ago I still think about from time to time. I stopped by this past Saturday afternoon with the Millennial Chum, on a toasty summer day that was absolutely teeming with people all over the beach and boardwalk. If you'd asked me to guess beforehand, I would have estimated this place would have a line out the door, but we got lucky - I'd say there were maybe three or four people in front of us, and (this part isn't luck) the line moved very quickly and efficiently. While we waited the two minutes or so to order, I gave the merch section to the side a hard look - there are some VERY legit-looking hoodies for sale that are only about $30 or $35 and would easily retail for twice that at a different establishment. I might come back for one. On this particular day, I went with a small cup (two scoops) of the birthday cake ice cream, and I THINK something Oreo/cookie related, which unfortunately I can't definitively confirm because it's conveniently hidden on top of the birthday cake in the accompanying picture. Both were excellent. I've mentioned this many times in prior ice cream reviews, but as long as it's a decent flavor and it's not freezer burned, it's hard for me to give anything other than a full-throated endorsement of it. The servings are huge too - the small is not particularly small, and the much better-behaved Millennial Chum actually went with a kiddie cup in the end. Definitely worth a stop if you have the time and appetite. read more

Waffles. Ice cream. Waffles and ice cream?! Oh, boy. This combo brings me back to my youth when my metabolism could handle all the good (but really bad but... really really good) stuff with ease. (Nowadays I have to pick my battles when it comes to the decadent grub out there or my heart - and waistline - will make sure I suffer for it.) Coney Waffle isn't the biggest place on the boardwalk. But it's got a great retro-design and vibe that will hypnotize you and after you finally get your bearings to place your order you'll notice a vast amount of ice cream flavors and options as well as these monstrously-large cookies and cotton candy and... I had to kick it old-school and went with the (standard/plain) waffle topped with three different scoops and it was just incredible. Some of the family went with the brownie waffle and were just as impressed. Price-tag aside... a perfect way to end a day at the beach. read more

"Java trunk and coconut, please", I said, as I have said at least 100 times since they replaced Days ice cream. Except this time, the perfect-looking girl behind the counter was mad. I know she was made because she made sure I know I have offended her. Not until after handed me my bowl with the wrong ice cream in it, did she inform me how benevolent and forgiving she was because I handed her the waffle bowl instead of telling her that I wanted the waffle bowl. Well I didn't mean to make her mad but I have been doing this all summer long, ordering exactly the same thing all summer long and nobody else ever told me I was endangering their lives or breaking any unwritten rules. Except now, I know that I didn't order ice cream the right right and how dare I show myself in her presence ever again. I'm glad that she overlooked the limits of her logic by grabbing my money from me thirty seconds later. I'm forever grateful that she allowed me to tip her and even gave me something to eat. It would have been wrong for me to want the ice cream I ordered or expect an ounce of gratitude in return. read more

Coney Waffle is a very clean ice cream parlor with friendly staff, but has a few weird things about it. The first thing you will notice upon entering is that there are no in-door seats, only outdoor. So if it is raining, I hope you either like standing or brought an umbrella. The next thing you will probably notice is that they have a large selection of hard ice cream flavors, many of which we had never seen in other ice cream parlors before. The thing is, although they have such a wide selection of flavors to choose from, they do not allow you to sample any of them, so the only way to try a flavor is to order a full scoop of it. Now I definitely understand from a business perspective not wanting to give out a million samples to a person, but something like a one or two sample limit would be nice. If you are going to charge customers boardwalk prices, the least you can do is let them try something to make sure they like it. As far as the ice cream itself, we ordered two things : a waffle bowl with a scoop of Cinnamon Twirl and a scoop of s'mores (a really good combination), and a soft serve vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles. They were both good, I think their hard ice cream is the way to go if you had to choose between soft or hard ice cream though! read more

Apparently they're semi-famous for these mega milkshake creations, but I just wanted a good ice cream cone and found it here. I had their birthday cake ("Happy Birthday To Me") ice cream and thought it was one of the better birthday cakes I've tried. Lots of pretty big cake chunks and the cake seemed like it actually would have been good cake on its own. The "small" is two scoops and they're pretty generous! The waffle cone was a little hard, but I'd still get it again over a cake cone or bowl. They also have other fun stuff, like fudge, cookies, and ice cream waffle boats (which my dad got and enjoyed). They have a pretty large selection of flavours, but I found it hard to get a good look at everything while I was waiting in line with people standing in front of the freezer, and they wanted us to order as soon as we reached the counter, before we got a chance to see all the flavours up close, which was kind of stressful since I barely knew what all the options were when they were asking me (not very patiently) what I wanted. read more

My daughter was stung by a bee in the playground near this ice cream shop, so I brought her here to make her feel better. After we placed our ice cream order I asked a staff member for an ice cube to put on her sting. She told me that they do not sell ice and she would get in trouble if she gave me an ice cube, so I asked to speak to a manager so I could ask for the ice cube, and I was told the manager was not there. In my frustration and disbelief I forgot to grab napkins after paying. When I went back into the store there was a different staff member at the register so I asked her for napkins, and I figured I would ask again for an ice cube since my daughter was still crying in pain. She at least offered to sell me a cup of ice for $2.50. I didn't mind paying for the ice, not sure why that wasn't offered at first. It is cruel to have a store policy that denies assistance to a child in pain. read more
