This hidden Culver City gem across the street from Sony Pictures offers up some outstanding coffee drinks, extreme friendliness and a highly-skilled staff of coffee baristas. Packed at 11am on a Wednesday, CFCTAM (or the Conservatory for short), is your typical LA coffee house with all the fixings: outstanding coffee, aspiring actors, proximity to studios, and hard to find parking. During this morning's caffeine fix, I decided to go with the Mexican Mocha while sitting at one of the dozen or so umbrella covered tables out on Washington overlooking the 50 foot treats guarding Sony Pictures. Within less than 10 minutes, the extremely friendly gentleman at the bar called out my order and served it up with a smile. The coffee itself was presented with a classic heart-shaped finish, with my choice of milk, which in this case, was of the Almond variety. The flavor was outstanding. No need for anting extra, as the balance of bold flavor with that sweet Mexican Cafe de Hoya richness was absolutely on point. The price was also great. A very large cup for under $6. The quality definitely lived up to the pricing. Always a place to people watch, the Conservatory delivers on all of the coffeehouse elements you are looking for. This place is small with outdoor seating. Cute, feel inside, but crowd is industry types talking loud and looking like they're on set, but overall really nice! Parking is around the corner and behind the shop or there are a few 30 minute spots on the street. Ordered the toffee latte per the other reviews on here. I've had a lot of bad lattes and this isn't one of them. Probably the best latte I've had. I ordered mine with oat milk and an extra shot and it's smooth! Usually oat milk gives drinks a funky taste, but this tastes amazing. Definitely worth finding parking for! read more

Hidden gem! Everyone here is just so cool and by cool I mean kind helpful approachable and the best coffee makers in all the land. This is my favorite local coffee shop. I do wish they were open on weekends and had longer hours but I also think the baristas more than deserve the nice work hours. I have never had a bad coffee here. I always do hot lattes but something about their iced vanilla lattes drives me wild. Oh and you can definitely catch some live music here. Love live conservatory! read more

Love/hate relationship with this place. The coffee can be hit or miss -- first visit had very delicious coffee. Second visit didn't taste great at all but it was probably my fault -- the sugar free option was not good. The inside is so industrial cozy and a good atmosphere to get work down, however seating is so limited. read more

Overall, highly enjoyable. One of my 'bookmarked' coffee spots on the west side in terms of taste quality & to go coffee. Price was also very reasonable as (before tip) it was $16.61 for 2 pastries and 2 cups of coffee with oat milk substitutions. ------ Pastries ($3-$4): * Kouign-Amann - amazing. Sweet but perfectly balanced in flavor and texture. A must get. A croissant with a beautiful creme brulee crunch and a soft doughy croissant center that's lined with a subtle vanilla custard cream. * cranberry muffin - sweet moist, delicious and large in proportion. Coffee ($3.75-$5.25) * vanilla latte, half sweet, oat milk - perfect temp and sweetness. The Oatmilk made the drink have a 'rice' after taste almost as if they had used Rice Dream Oatmilk. Nothing to go crazy over but still Highly enjoyable. Would get again. * cappuccino - good, coffee as it had a smooth perfectly blended taste to it. The milk didn't compliment the coffee as much and wasn't as creamy as high end stores but this was still a decent cup. Possibly a smidge 0.5 step lower than meets expectations. Parking: * ~6 metered parkings. Tough to find parking because it's always full but there are quite a bit of spots if you don't mind walking or waiting for a spot to open. Ambiance: * lots of tables inside and outside. Could it be?!? I found the best coffee in LA?!??? Indeed I did. I came to conservatory one summers morning, on a quest for the perfect place to read my mystery novel. I had heard rumors, whispers. Of the legendary Conservatory for coffee. Of their marvel and glory. So I had to see for myself. I walk in at about 9:30am. The place is filled with beautiful LA people, LIVE MUSIC (?!?!), and the rich smell of baristas doing their craft. I knew at this moment I had found something special. Like the mysterious LA girl I am, I ordered an iced vanilla almond latte and pan au chocolate (chocolate croissant for the lay people). Although the inside seating was full, the live piano playing would have been too awe-inspiring for me to not get distracted, so I was content to sit outside and read in the peaceful quiet. And best of all, the servers brought my food and drink directly outside to me!! Is this real? Amazing! Of course, I can't leave a review without talking about how the coffee and croissant tasted. The latte stood out miles above any others I had, and the toasted croissant was the perfect accompaniment. That day I read my novel with the best company, in the best environment. I've been meaning to try Conservatory for such a long time, but never got around to it until a nice, hot day and I was in need of an iced latte. Conservatory is located on Washington Blvd, but in a quieter part that feels very peaceful. I was warmly greeted and the barista was great in helping me decide on a drink for my first visit: I ordered an iced vanilla latte and got a cranberry-orange scone to go. ...and wow, that iced vanilla latte hit the SPOT! Cold and creamy, the vanilla was sweet, but did not overpower the bitterness of the coffee, which was perfect. It was a well-made drink, and the scone was soft and crusty to pair it with. Conservatory has my approval, hands down. My only gripes are its limited hours and being only opened on weekdays. I'll need to find a way to return! read more

Been coming here since they opened in the early 90s, though I haven't had the opportunity in a while due to the distance since I moved. Some of my most pleasant memories of my time in the West LA, Culver City area are from this incredible family owned shop. That would include the incredible coffee, notably my usual which is a large Mocachino, "you won't find better anywhere", and the people and service are the best you will find. Was in the area for work, found a nice cafe close by and decided to visit. Intimately busy cafe but was able to order promptly. I am a tea person and I saw many different choices of tea but only two iced tea choices, so I chose an iced chai tea. They don't have iced matcha tea on the menu but I saw someone got it so I believe the hot matcha can be made iced. I got a yummy ham and cheese crossaints toasted and it was delicious! Probably one of the best I've had as well! Cheese on top baked and crispy. I also got a Nutella crossaint to go and I can't wait to try it! I have been eyeing this place for a few years now. I just never got a chance to make it here since they close around 2pm. I always wondered what makes this place that good and popular when the hours didn't seem that accommodating for most people who work 9-5 pm jobs. But their lattes are everything. I have not been going to coffee shops lately because all the lattes I have been trying have been extremely mediocre and not worth the $7. But their lattes will change your mind. I have tried their vanilla latte with oat milk and hazelnut latte. Both were mind-blowing. Once I took a sip of my latte, all of the hypes and reviews made sense. Great, quick service, friendly staff and other patrons! I got the Pirates Chai, which has matcha in it, and was pleasantly surprised that chai and matcha go well together! It's not very spiced (I would like more spice), but it's comforting! The shop is small but a nice vibe. They have a wall of tea containers which seems like a good sign as someone who loves tea and doesn't drink coffee. Someone was playing the piano when I was in line too, which was nice.
