Frankly, Conte Di Savoia brings me back home to that place, because it is so similar. The choices of products are spot on, prices are a little high because of the EURO and not overpricing. Great little Italian place. Not just a sub shop (though a good one), but also a grocery store. With wine, cheese, frozen pesto, tasty imported jams and jellies... This is the place that introduced me to the joys of bitter orange marmalade, which I bake into things to much rejoicing. This is my favorite Deli spot on Taylor Street and in the surrounding area. If I'm thinking a sandwich for lunch - I'm headed here hands down. They have a lot of home made options in their deli and their giardiniera is to die for. They have a frequent buyers card for sandwiches which rules if you pick your meals up a lot. The staff is very friendly, I've never had any kind of issue or quarrel with that, which isn't quite the standard around the Little Italy areas or at least from my experience. I've even had a couple of the deli guys remember my order, which is awesome - can't beat that. I always enjoy going in and peeping around at the new items they have or discovering something new I've never tried. They have a pretty unique grocery choice and a lot of hard to find items as well. Local place for all your Italian grocery needs. First off the Italian sub felt a little overrated, I've had better. Though the meats were top notch, dressing was a little light but the bread was too much. Some will say it's authentic but I've had better at another Italian deli we frequent. Excellent meats and cheeses for cutting. Cutter knew his meat when steering us towards the saltier prosciutto. Lots of sauces (had Tuscany Brandy sauce I was looking for), noodles (all sizes, types and brands) and other delicacies. Haven't tried their homemade frozen ravioli yet. They have wine as well but didn't check it out. Breads were minimal, again I've seen better selection elsewhere (I went at 1pm so in all fairness maybe selection was affected though I think not). Cookies were disappointing more like a cake dough rather than a cookie. Ambience was like something from a NY storefront deli without the attitude. Will definitely keep it in mind when we want authentic Italian grocery items. read more

A fully packed sandwich on fresh bread and an espresso at Conte Di Savoia are the best way to start off your Sunday afternoon. All of the homemade food is amazing - fresh or frozen. The olive bar with homemade salads will never let you down. They always have a phenomenal selection of homemade pastas in the freezer: several types ravioli, several types of gnocchi, cavatelli, etc... The homemade sauces are also outstanding. A friend lives nearby and always suggests we stop by to grab a panini. I finally gave it a try and tried their turkey pastrami panini. They make their sandwiches fresh so there is a bit of a wait but it is worth it! You can add hot peppers for an additional cost but the sandwiches always have deli thin sliced meat. A lot of flavor without being too messy; but don't forget to grab a handful of napkins, because you'll need them. It's clear that they have regulars because some people just go up to the register and get a greeting; no need to order, they just pay! Try this place out if you're looking for a fresh sandwich. This is one of my favorite places in Chicago. I went there regularly when I lived there and now go every time I come back to visit. The sandwiches are incredible, the bread is second to none. The staff is amazing here. We requested for 25 sandwiches for one of our events this month and Conte Di Savoia was willing to lend us a hand. Actually, we miscalculated how much food we needed and requested 15 more sandwiches the day before the event and had noted that we would pay for the additional 15. I love small, ethnic grocery stores. Thai, Italian, Japanese, Middle Eastern, and so on and so on... they're all so much more fun than your regular food-shopping experience- and I don't get to them nearly enough. I especially love THIS little ethnic grocery store and long-time local business. From what I recall, it's been around since the '40's, so obviously I can't be the only one that thinks they're doing something right. Conte Di Savoia is authentic (I overheard a number of Italian-speaking customers) and the deli and sandwiches are fresh, delicious, and a better price and quality than what you get at most sandwich shops, as is much of what they sell beyond the deli. There are all sorts of goodies that are almost impossible to find outside of a place like this, and browsing the aisles is almost as fun as browsing rare pieces of jewelry and accessories at a boutique (but only if you like that sort of thing, which I do). But really, the cheeses, breads, desserts, even condiments are all delicious. Apparently so are the Italian meats (this according to my brother, picky eater and chef extraordinaire, who also said they are much cheaper than where he usually buys them). However, my veggie-loving self can't give testament to whether that's true or not. But I'd trust him if I were you. Oh, there is also plenty of indoor seating, as well as a few tables outside. It's fun to watch when the old Italian men congregate at the outside tables to chat and argue. They seem as if they've probably been doing this for most of their lives and it's nice to see that even though much of the area has changed in more recent years, some things never do. But, if the grumpy old men bother you or you can't find a seat but want to eat outside, it's also nice to eat on a bench at the mini-park about a quarter of a block East. There's even a DiMaggio statue to gaze at if you need just a little bit more Italian in your life :) read more

I used to work down the street and I still think about their tasty subs! This is a great little Italian import shop. Some great meats, cheeses, canned goods, pastas, bread, espressos and if you can't find it, just ask, they probably have it hidden. You will also find many of the older locals hanging out here, sipping on an espresso, commenting on life, reading an Italian paper, feel free to say hi to them. Came here twice yesterday and really enjoyed myself. First I came here for a triple espresso and homemade canoli, which were amazing. Grabbed a Sun-Times and relaxed. After walking across the street to the Italian Sports Museum, I came back here and had the Italian Sando. It was excellent and recommend subbing out the ham for the sopresata and going with the vinegar and oil dressing on top. Its a home run. I just want to share my great experience at this place. I've been hearing a lot of good things about this place before but I never got the chance to visit them. I was around the area just recently when I decided to pay a visit. There are a few people inside and I notice the cleanliness of the place overall despite of the situation. The staff were friendly and accommodating. I told her that it was my first time and she is really so nice to recommend something. Their menu is literally huge and there is a lot of options. Since it is my first time I just decided to order their Italian sub. I did not wait long and the food was ready. I was so excited to try their Italian sub and it really has a nice and huge portion. First bite and it was really delicious. It was really good and now I know why people keep on talking about it.
