The pu pu platter is a must-order, offering a fantastic variety and great flavors, perfect for sharing. The pork fried rice is also a crowd pleaser. Saturday my wife and I decided to go back to the Continental to try the weekend buffet. We arrived just after 1 pm as the lunch rush was slowing. Everything looked to be refilled with only the prime sushi showing signs of shortages. I miss some of the good choices to a customer before me who "loaded up" leaving only the rolls behind. Luckily the sushi chef came back and started restoring the sushi section while I cruised the hot food. Best of the hot food were the ribs, fried chicken wings, chicken teriyaki and baked haddock. The steak and rib eye beef were alright as long as you grabbed them when they came out. Cold shrimp were okay. Our total bill with ice water came to $55. The staff were friendly enough but tended to be distracted. My wife was very happy finding the hard ice cream section! All in all better than expected. we went back....it was worse. most of the hot food on the bar wasn't hot, the bins were half full. I am OK with cheap Chinese buffet but this meal was $55.00 for two senior citizen lunch buffet meals and two ice waters. Service is not good either. read more

The owner has decided that age does not matter in regard to children eating at the buffet. My friend and I went with our kids who are both similar age (one being slightly older) and after my daughter(the younger of the two) ate maybe 2 things they wanted to charge adult price for her because she is "taller" than the other child. When the owner came out he said "people lie"! "If you go to buffet and you don't eat then you lose that's not my problem". I could not believe how rude he was to us. The poor waitstaff had to be put into a situation to tell us and try to enforce this ridiculous policy. Not to mention most of the food on the buffet tastes horrible. I haven't had General Tso's in a long time so I decided to order from Continental. Biggest mistake ever!!! The fried rice was really dark and dry, the crab rangoon had maybe a teaspoonful of filling and the General Tso's...well, it is in the trash!!! I couldn't even eat it -- the sauce had great big flakes of burned sauce. It had obviously been burned and they scraped the pan to get all the burned dregs. I will never go back! read more

Had a wonderful time tonight at the Continental Restaurant! My sister turns 65 on Tuesday so I took her out for Mai Tais and appetizers - we didn't get the buffet because we weren't that hungry. The food was excellent - we got Peking Raviole - pan fried - and the best I ever had! And an appetizer platter that consisted of yummy chicken wings, boneless spare ribs, and chicken and beef teriyaki ! Everything was delicious including the Mai Tais - strong just the way I like them! Our waitress Jasmine was excellent - very professional and friendly - she was happy to answer our questions. I hadn't been here since Yangste closed but I can say that I will definitely be back. We went here because we were dead tired from hiking the mountains and it was late so we decided to chow down. The one thing that HOOKED us was the price of the buffet..$14!? for a buffet?! Team 10 is shaking. Although they were almost closing when we got there, they still seated us and we pretty much ate the rest of the food since they didnt refill anything anymore. They had oysters, at a buffet, that was $14?! I am beyond shook. It is a shame that we came at a time where they stopped refilling. But the GOOD thing is that they threw all the uneaten food, which is you know, required but law (i think) but it is still good to see them actually do it and not reusing food. read more

No stars, the last time I came here the waitress was nodding off on drugs, gave it a rest came back and new waitress that has been messing up the meal orders all night several people complained, we had to wait till we were almost done with our meals for duck sauce, she completely messed up the drink order, then comes the bill where they completely messed it up as well as the party we joined and all he did was say "don't eat all the meal than complain about it after" my words were "how we going to dispute the bill overcharged without eating the meals, because the bill comes after the meal" never again will I eat here, very dissatisfied very disappointing, to add to this, upon leaving why was the ecolab truck parked right up against the back door of the establishment?? Let me start this off by saying that our server was amazing. He was very attentive and cleared our dirty plates in a very timely manner. He is the reason why this review score is as high as it is. The food, however, was some of the most bland and flavorless food that I have ever tasted. Not worth the price whatsoever. The most flavorful part of my meal was the salad I made myself. Not to mention that there were two waitresses that were talking to two other patrons about how they had two strikes against them, because they were not "Asian, and not men". Variety is the spice of life. I'm one of those that are really keen on quality and I shop organic and all that so I'm always questioning where that meat or veggies came from and all that so I wasn't blown away by the food but it was hot and there was a lot of it. The service was good and the staff were friendly and polite. The bathrooms had soap, didn't notice a changing table. The best part I think every restaurant should have is a bar. Right when ou walk in to the left there's a decent bar area to grab a brew if there's a wait. Overall, keep doing what you're doing - seems to be working. read more

This was an excellent Chinese buffet restaurant when the owners bought it from the retiring owners of the pretty average, non-buffet style Yangtze Chinese Restaurant. I came here a couple of times a month because it was consistently a great value with very good Chinese buffet selections - in an area that was screaming for a Chinese buffet-style restaurant. I really enjoyed this place. Then COVID lock-downs came to destroy local businesses. Unfortunately, the Continental ownership lost their minds and hearts, and this place never recovered. The great buffet is not only GONE, but the standard food, and restaurant itself rapidly degenerated. The 1st time I went post-COVID, there was some sort of a sewage line backup issue. The smell slapped me in the face as soon as I walked in the front door. The place actually reaked like an open cesspool! They didn't even have the sense to close that day! I quickly left. That was about a year ago. I tried them twice since then, the latest being last night. I knew there was still no buffet, but I was not expecting the food and sevice to sink even lower! Very bad. How are they still in business?! Probably Somersworth/Dover locals who just eat anyting they can get as quick, cheap take-out. Sad. Anyway, I was told the buffet will be back "next year" (assuming 2023). I will not go back until this buffet returns just to see if the owners care to revitalize this place or just ride it into the ground for good. My friend and I went to this buffet because of the ratings and how people talked so highly of the food. I was appalled at it all. We walked in and the owner was there fixing the fish tank. (No big deal). He was very nice and came right to us when he saw us. We got there at 3:15 or so. He explained dinner starts at 4, and gave us the choice. Needless to say we should have waited for the dinner. The food out at the buffet was minimal at best. Most of it all was dried out. I ate a stuffed shrimp. It was not good. Before I was able to leave I was in the bathroom vomiting. When going back to the table it was now 4:01. We were done eating for at least 10 minutes and asked for the check when we were done. She brought it at 4 and left it. I noticed she charged us the dinner price. When I told her she argued it with me. Told me if I had a problem go to the owner. SERIOUSLY? I HAD TO GO TO THE OWNER. Who yes he fixed it and was decent about it. I explained to him that she argued with me and also I suspected the stuffed shrimp to have been bad because I was just vomiting. !!!! Make sure you go to the bathroom before you go here. The bathrooms were disgusting. Each toilet had something in it. The floor was covered with toilet paper and paper towels. It looked like it wasn't cleaned in a long time. Maybe they should put the girl who doesn't understand the concept of customer service. She left me to do something I never do. I always tip and not just tip I tip minimum of 20%. I left this girl $1.01. After begging for the bill, then having to wait to pay because she was standing around the corner. I had never seen shit like this. But before we turned the corner when we left she had already gone to the table to get the tip. On a side note. She didn't deserve even a penny. Ok, Continental. I gave you another chance and you still completely disappointed me. How is this place still open?! With actual awesome Asian restaurants just down the road in Dover, Continental is just taking up space. Let's get into why. Again, the food.... ugh, the food. The sushi looks like it's been there a week, most of the dishes around the buffet are empty or just sauce, and everything is lukewarm. I filled up a plate with LoMein, crab rangoons, some General Tso's chicken, & a sugar bun thing. Everything was mediocre and overall bland. The "chicken" pieces had a wtf texture, and that was the end of that for me. I tried the "chocolate pie" and immediately regretted it. I went to fork the filling and it jiggled. Nope again. The other two people I was with said the "fried clams" were gross and the desserts they tried were moist - moist when they were supposed to be those typical flaky puffy things. Ick. Our waitress (were those bug bites or track marks on her arms? Beats me), when she did stop on by to check on us and finally brings water we asked for 20 minutes ago, was grubby & complained to us that she was tired. I lived in Dover NH 18 years ago. I use to frequent this restaurant when it was called Yangtze. The restaurant looks the same with a new name. I found the buffet to be mediocre. Most of the appetizers were over cooked. Deep fried appetizers were hard as a rock. I wish there were steamed appetizers. read more

It is with serious disappointment and complete bewilderment that I need to inform our nearly 50 Karaoke Cash Tournament contestants that the General Manager at The Continental Restaurant & Bar has decided not to honor his obligation to us, the Liquor Companies and you. He has cancelled the 5 remaining events as well as his portion of the purse. Wow. So disappointing. Charged full price for half empty buffet. Kind of unbelievable anyplace would do business that way nowadays. I mean almost every single thing I wanted was empty. General Tso's chicken empty. Peking dumplings ... empty. Chicken fingers? You guessed it...empty. Want some egg rolls ...sorry out of luck...they're empty too. Explanation? We close at 9:30--yeah well I came at nine and you had no problem charging me the full $13.99. And all of that stuff was empty from the time I arrived until the time I left. They could keep the Buffett stocked better as sometimes there is a long period with no refilling on the popular items. The drinks are decent although a bit pricey and the service is ok. Don't pay much attention to many of the partial negative reviews. I went there to try the restaurant. It's located just outside of northern Dover NH towards the strip mall area of shops. Has a decent parking lot and restaurant was clean including men's bathroom. The restaurant is roomy and buffet area was behind the fish tank located at front when you walk. The lunch buffet was $7.99 which is good and affordable. It's Chinese American food geared towards American tastes which is Typical of most Chinese restaurants. Don't expect 'authentic' Chinese as I don't think many reviewers know what it is or would eat it. The food was decent though some did look a bit dry but moist inside. It's the typical dishes that most would expect to be served, mainly meat dishes but Not much for vegetables except the typical broccoli, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and string beans. There's a table each for sushi, salad, American, dessert and 2 tables for the Chinese dishes. It's clean and relatively hot and the taste was acceptable. NH does Not have many Chinese buffet places and it doesn't have any Authentic Chinese restaurants as there's Not a concentration of Asians in NH so don't expect Authentic Chinese food unless you go down to MA. Food is so good I drive the extra distance when china palace and dynasty are so close. Clean place, diverse staff very reasonably priced with portions and qualityout of the 70s 80s and 90s . I went with my husband today, 30 minutes after they opened. The remodel looks nice and the service was good. Other than that, I was super disappointed. I had heard good things about it so maybe it was an off-day but it was just really not good. I expected that since we got there early, the food would be fresh. Nothing was hot. The chicken fingers and all the chicken dishes were dry and lacked flavor. They do have an amazing selection but 90% of what we tried was not good. We are not fancy or picky people. I doubt we will go back and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more
