He promptly made us an appointment for which he was right on time for a free estimate to have our heater which was over 20+ years old replaced with an energy efficient heating unit and an air conditioner. He explained everything to us in a way we could fully understand and answered all our questions. He gave us an estimate that was more than fair and less than most. He made us feel comfortable in choosing them as our contractor. He also included the pain of getting a permit included in his bid which was great considering most of the other contractors did not do that and told us we would be responsible for that part which we had no idea how to even go about doing that. So, recently our furnace went on and, immediately, my wife jumped up and said that there was a burnt smell coming from the heater vents. We turned it off and tried to figure who to call to solve the problem. A large, well known, well advertised HVAC contractor was initially contacted. After two technicians visited, their recommendation was to replace the furnace for $8K to $9k. Quite the sales process. On the recommendation of my neighbor, I contacted Jeff at Controlled Elements thinking that, at least, I could get a better quote. Jeff showed up, went up his ladder and returned 10 minutes later with the schematic design paper that was glued to the inside door that had gotten loose and sucked into the heat exchanger causing the burnt smell. That was it! Lots of money saved. I don't think Jeff ever came in with the idea to sell us a furnace. He seemed too excited to have solved the problem. Jeff Donaldson is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced technician. I doubt there's much he doesn't know about heating and air conditioning equipment. He is also very honest and respectful of his customers' homes. Jeff installed a new heating and air conditioning system in my 1957 ranch home. The original system (with asbestos) was still in place. He designed a new system, found us a great asbestos removal contractor, recommended a fantastic drywall contractor to patch up the holes from the old asbestos-ridden vents, and then went to work installing a state-of-the-art HVAC system. With the precision of a surgeon, he cut holes in the ceiling for the new premium ducts. He put tarps down everywhere he and his crew were working. There wasn't a speck of dust left in my home at the end of each day, and his crew worked for 5 days in my home. We are extremely satisfied with our new system and the work performed installing it.
