Overall this store has a great selection at decent prices. Designer options are in cases and priced a little higher, but at a fair rate. The service was friendly, but the store is busy and other patrons tended to be rude (interrupting while you were being helped by an employee repeatedly). My favorite thrift store! Been coming here for years and let me tell you - the prices are unbeatable. I will mention and disclose that the prices will not always be "consistent" or seen as "correct" or "justified" in your eyes. I've learned over the years and while thrifting with other family members and friends that everyone's view of "thrift" and "value" are always so different. What I believe in is: Another man's trash is another man's treasure. You can think a 99¢ shirt is trash and not worth it, but someone else will love it. So keep that in mind. Upon reading other reviews, I guess each their own when going thrifting here and in general. I love this place. You do, however, will have to look through A LOT if you want to find some good finds. Compared to others I've been to, who organize through style, color, type of event, and even set pricing - this store offers a variety of clothing and is organized by style (long sleeve, short sleeve, sleeveless, plus size, etc.) and yes, it may seem messy and overwhelming. BUT, if you go in with the mindset of just browsing, I'm sure you'll find some nice finds. I recommend this place ALL THE TIME. From the price, to the variety, and to the service. Many times I've gone, I've seen nice people helping and guiding others. They do accept military discount. And I will add that my family and I have been donating to this store, as well. And lemme tell you... my closet is made up of thrifted clothes, mainly from here. I'm telling you, 80-85% of my clothes are from here. And everytime someone asks where my flannel, skirts, blouses, jackets, etc. are from, I tell them I thrifted them. :) So yeah, definitely check it out and you be the judge. read more

I visited the veterans thrift store for the first time today. There is ample parking in the lot, which was nice. This location had a lot of clothing which was fairly neatly organized. They also had a good amount of household goods, some were in a designated section and others were on top of the clothing racks. I have a hard time shopping that way, and would prefer if all household items were together so things are easier to find. Toward the back of the store where more household goods were, things were increasingly messy and disorganized. Many items were just thrown in bins and you truly would have to dig to even see what's there. I noticed the prices on household items were slightly higher than what I've seen at other thrift stores. read more

I had the thrift day of my life here. Literally the best selection I've ever seen out of a thrift store, and the jewelry was gorgeous. I reconstructed my entire jewelry collection here and it's all high quality. I will be back (probably every weekend). They over price most of the items. I found 2 small desert bowls and they wanted $1.95 for EACH bowl. Went down the street to another thrift store and got 3 desert bowls plus 3 larger soup bowls all for $3.95. Now that is a deal. I AM NEVER GOING BACK! 1. Their prices are absolutely ridiculous! I agree with other reviewers, they think they're a retail store. 2. Their customer service is horrible. I waited in the furniture room for at least 10 minutes making eye contact with the cashiers and no one came over to help. I had to track someone down. That was fine, whatever. But when I asked how much an unmarked chair was, the guy asked the manager... $65. Excuse me, there was a full sofa next to it for $50. I went yesterday and saw the chair, asked how much and they said $40. I went home to sleep on it, went back for it, but now it's $65, are you freaking kidding me? This was a small chair, like it would be MAX $20 at another thrift store. So no, I will never go back because their prices are atrocious and their customer service is horrible. read more

Was a bit disappointed in this stop. Maybe it was because they had a rough weekend, but it seemed to be trashed. Items were just tossed here and there and it seemed very disorganized. Can't miss the place from the freeway with a huge T on the roof of the building. From the outside it looks very nice. Really hoped it would be nicer inside. I used to love getting good deals on kids close because it saves money and they grow so fast. I'm giving a one star due to the bathrooms. I don't use public restrooms unless it's an emergency as sometimes we have bladder issues or some people have a medical issue. I was told due to covid that the bathrooms are closed and I know it's because they don't clean them as I have seen it in the past . Every where else that is open has their bathrooms open as well so I'm Calling it a ba excuse for the lazyness of the employees and management and I will not be coming back to this store when used to be a good customer. read more

I am a Thrift Store shopper. This was my first visit to this particular thrift store. I spent quite a bit of time here. The displays are not shopper friendly. Clothes racks below with a self area above where there is the most confusing mishmash of A-Z. Normally these type of items are displayed on shelves. You can pick up a vase for $1.95 and next to it is a glass bowl priced at $40! There pricing is wobbly at best!! Nice/collectibles in with knickknacks. Absolutely no rhyme or reason. One corner near the furniture is easier to looK at items. I like to poke/dig for a bargain but not this much. items that could have been sold get broken because of the haphazard way they are displayed. read more

A friend of mine suggested that I donate my unwanted clothes and shoes to the DAV since it's about 5 minutes away from me. The drop-off location is BEHIND the DAV; not in front of the store. I saw the sign once I pulled up. I turned around and went to the back. I dropped off 3 bags and they asked if I wanted a receipt; I said no. It was quick, painless, and the workers seemed friendly. I didn't go into the main store as I was pressed for time but it seemed organized and spacious filled with anything and everything you can think of. read more

They came to my house to grab my donations. Very easy to schedule. Didn't have to be home. They just took the stuff I left on the porch.

Donated a sofa bed to DAV due to me moving. I called up several charities about donating this couch. Most had specific rules about what they would take and wouldn't take as well as that everything has to be downstairs and that their employees wouldn't lift large items. Also many won't due weekend pick ups. I had this couch on Craigslist free stuff and while I must have gotten 10 responses, the people either never responded when I tried to arrange a time or made it clear that just 1 person would pick it up despite me saying that there will need to be at least 2 strong men. DAV does pick up on Saturdays and will give you a 1 hour courtesy call when the drivers are on their way. You do have a full day window though which is something like 9-5 but again you get the 1 hour call. The guys who picked it up were friendly. I only gave -1 star because when they took the couch downstairs, they chipped off some paint off the edge of my walls. I tried to repaint that spot but it's clear that that spot isn't as thick as the rest of the edge. read more

For the past several years we have worked hand in hand with the staff of this DAV to help us with our move out at the residence halls at San Diego State University. I must admit that this has been one of the best things we have ever done. This partnership is great. Over time we have developed a system that works all the way around. We resurrected the little white donation/collection bins and have them placed where the students can get to them. They are emptied daily until all of our students are gone for the summer. The end result of this endeavor is completely "win-win". 1. The students have somewhere to donate their unwanted items without leaving home. 2. There is never an unsightly mess around the collection bins, or items hanging out of them. 3. Items that can be re-used do not fill up the landfill. 4. The stores that receive the items have a better chance of resale, because of the trendy items originally purchased by the college aged students. 5. DAV will take mostly all items the students feel they no longer have a need for. 6.Once our event is over, everything is packed up and taken care of until the next move out. Many, many thanks to George and Robert, they have made this a great event every year since 2005. Over the years, DAV has collected over 50,000 pounds of usable goods from SDSU Residence Halls, and the goal is to continue this partnership. read more

This is definitely one of my favorite thrift stores in San Diego, and I go thrifting A LOT. The reason I love this place is that I literally cannot walk into this store without finding at least half a cart full of great clothes. I've been here a ton of times and always leave with plenty of clothes and often a pair of shoes too. However, I must admit that my finds aren't always great steals.. they can definitely get pricey with certain things. Particularly their dresses and other items from stores like Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, and H&M... while yes these are trendy brands, they are definitely not worth $10-$15 secondhand. The store does have the occasional sale, but it's a mere 10% off a particular colored tag - which doesn't end up adding to much, but I guess it's something. The store is very large and carries mostly clothes, but there is a separate portion of the store on the right, filled with a variety of furniture and glassware/tableware. I have never purchased furniture here before, but my sister bought the cutest gold and blue plate and teacup set for her Tiffany's-themed bridal shower at a great price. All in all, this is a very clean, very large, clothes-filled thrift store, full-staffed with friendly and helpful people, that I definitely recommend to others, and will continue to return to for more great finds. read more

need a jock strap but aren't willing to shell out the $10 for one? well, at this thrift store, they have almost half a rack, I repeat, half a rack, of previously worn jockstraps clipped on hangers. enchante and they have medical equipment for sale - so if that ugly hipster-in-wheelchair trend rears its ugly head again, you'll know where to go. this used to be a thrifty's according to local lore - hence the "T" gracing the building. Prices are steep - but you can find deals in their erratically priced goods - they have a rack of designated "vintage" clothes with hilarious polyester pantsuits - last time I went here I picked up about eighty scarves, as well as more pyrex, vintage 60's highball glasses, a winter coat with like-new mink collar, and some shirts for the husband. they also can have good men's vintage shoes in smaller sizes, for some reason. read more

I went in briefly today just to look around and see if they had anything of interest. They had this wicked table that I fell in love with, but they wanted $1,200 for it! I asked if they would do a trade in of a almost brand new glass top Ikea table and chairs set, on top of a couple hundred dollars cash, and the lady I talked to looked really confused and just told me no. When I got home I called hoping I would get someone in management, and even though the store is open today (sunday), the offices were closed. Lame. They did have some really cool blankets and faux fur coats. They had a working dryer for $75, and my husband was happy to find they sold records. I didn't go through the books but I glanced at them as I walked by and I didn't see many good titles to actually read, but there were some good vintage looking covers if you want them for just decorating. I got lost in how many great winter hats they had. We want to go up to the snow and I think I will go back here to get us snow gear. I saw kids clothing and stuffed animals but not much besides that. Overall they were alright. Pretty big, with some good furniture, but I agree they are a little more pricey. read more

I was on an errand near here, so I stopped in. I'm on the lookout for interesting digital clocks, costume fodder, and other stuff for projects. But you should never go into a thrift store with too much anticipation - just find what you find. I got a clock, a small red plaid skirt (for some reason I can't resist these but could never find them in my size, so I sew them to the legs of my shorts), a few wooden thingamajiggers, a water bottle. Prices were okay, slightly high but still thrift store cheap for what I got. Pretty successful visit, might stop by again if I were in the area. read more
