I was the first customer of the day at opening. I ordered a large mocha to drink in the cafe ("for here"). After waiting 15 min and watching other orders get made and brought out, I asked what was going on and when my mocha was coming . The runner told me they were short on baristas! Finally after watching more hot drinks come out and not mine, I finally at the 25 min mark went up to the counter for a refund. Where they tried to give me a drip coffee in a to go cup. Got my refund and left. For almost $10 for a mocha, it should not take 25 min. Went down the street to the little Italian bakery and got a mocha for $5 in two min. read more

GORGEOUS SPOT. This is the most beautiful coffee shop in lower manhattan. They have lots of space and seating. The servers are a bit of a fancy vibe. The salad was delicious as well as the croissant and all their coffees. If you're in the area - don't miss. Only thing is that it gets hot in here in the summer. read more

First of all, just visiting the space is worth it. The food - particularly any of the croissant items and the french toast - is exquisite. I have recommended it multiple times already and EVERYBODY has liked it. The staff are awesome as well, despite this opening relatively recently and having a huge spike in popularity. Got a good cinnamon iced latte from here! The decor and vibe on the inside was really the best part though. My kouign amann pastry could have been a little better but still had some yummy bites of it. Great service as well! Feel like this place could blow up down the line popularity wise. read more

An employee professionally dressed man circulates and watches you and stares at you in a very creepy way. He might be the manager. We saw him speaking rudely to several people. The coffee was ok and the barista was good. The bank motif is fun. The biz needs help marketing and promoting itself. Zero signage and very unattractive from the outside. No one knows it's here! Honestly came to check out the ambience of this place. Super cool concepts, definitely an experience. Kind of feels like you're in a museum? Not sure how else to describe it. Not sure if there are any banks that actually look like this anymore. You order at the counter and they give you a number to bring you your food and drinks if you're staying. We got a couple of coffees, the spinach rarebit toast and whipped ricotta toast. The star of the show here was definitely the whipped ricotta toast. It was whipped ricotta with candied rhubarb I believe? The light and refreshed dessert was definitely not what I expected. Not heavy at all, and the flavors really complimented well together. The spinach rarebit toast was also good with a good garlic and cheese flavor, also not too heavy. We also had a latte and cortado, the espressos were good, notes of chocolate in the beans it seems, a very bold flavor. This place is definitely worth checking out, might seem a bit pricey.. but on par with every other NYC coffee shop honestly. read more

This was a really beautiful coffee hall -- And I was pleasantly surprised by the wait-staff and service (kind, polite, and not stuffy at all for a location that has an old, refined atmosphere). My only note is that the space can get hot on a warm day out, so I would try to coordinate my trips around the weather and time of year. I had the avocado toast and the ice chai latte. Their wheelchair lift is broken- this was after 30 minutes trying to find it: they don't pick up their phone, and because the place is up a flight of stairs, it's not like you can go and ask for help. The manager was very sweet and apologetic and tried very hard, but it's the fault of the building. Do better! read more

the space is beautiful, we know. but the coffee is HORRIBLE. a drip coffee tastes burnt, and like its been sitting over a catering fire all day. it also tastes like water, and has zero flavor. ive had their ice coffee's and coldbrews too... BAD. like water. and to top it all off its like $6 for a 12oz drip coffee lol. yall being fooled by the decor. read more

There have been so many times when I've thought, "The big chain coffee houses are okay for a quick pick-me-up, but I would literally sell my soul for an artisanal cappuccino in the Financial District." If this describes you, too, then look no further than the Conwell Coffee Hall. So very elegant and refined inside, with nice drinks and tasty treats. We were super excited to try this coffee shop, since we live nearby. The ambiance is great and the art-deco style of the building is super cool. There is a ton of seating and tables to sit and work. We didn't try the food so I can't speak to the quality of that, but the coffee is unfortunately sub-par. I ordered a latte and it tasted like it came out of an automatic machine, akin to what you would find in an airport lounge. I would give the coffee a 2/10 rating. Extremely disappointing because we want this place to survive! Hopefully the owners can either get a well trained barista, or upgrade the quality of their espresso machine. read more

Initially impressed by this coffee shop, I even recommended it on social media. However, my enthusiasm has waned, and I doubt I'll be returning. Upon arrival, there's immediate pressure to order, which becomes irksome. It would be appreciated to have a few moments to settle in, especially for those intending to work on laptops or wait for company. The insistence on ordering right away, even when waiting for friends, is uncomfortable. Today, while waiting for a friend, the persistent pressure to order was particularly frustrating. Despite having already ordered food and coffee earlier, I experienced further discomfort when returning to the shop after picking up a package from my building (20 Exchange). Upon sitting down to wait for another friend, so that we could get drinks at the cafe and head to dinner, I was once again pressured to order, being told I must purchase something to occupy the space by the waiter. I was shocked by this demand and asked another worker if what I was told is true. Her response, stating that even though I live in 20 Exchange Place, each time I step out to go to my room, pick up a package, or leave the establishment for any reason, I must reorder upon return, struck me as unreasonable. read more
