I come to this location all the time and no matter how busy they are they get down to business but this time they tried me I ordered two cookout trays (because I have a big appetite) the first cookout tray which was the Cajun chicken sand which, chili and cheese fries , and hush puppies was amazing I demolished that tray but when I got the the second tray which consists of chicken quesadilla with a side of chicken quesadilla and chicken nuggets I ended up with three nuggets idk if that's what I'm supports to get but shit I should've gotten another side of hush puppies smh not cool being that this my first time trying the nuggets. read more

I absolutely love this place. Some people like Waffle House as their go to late night food spot after going to the club or a concert, but I prefer Cook Out (and this is coming from someone who doesn't even live in ATL or somewhere where Cook Out exists). They give you really good sized portions and the meals are so fairly priced! It definitely satisfies those late nights fast food cravings and they're very quick with getting orders out. This past visit, we were coming from Music Midtown, so the place was SWAMPED and we were STARVING, but the food still came out so quickly! Cookout's hype is impressive. After hearing over and over about how good and how cheap this new chain is, I decided to check out the Northside Drive location that recently opened down the road from my office at Georgia Tech. Upon arriving at noon on Friday, I was even more excited to see how packed the place was. Clearly, the marketing team does an exceptional job. The architects? Not so much. As I walked through the front door, I was greeted head-on by the restrooms. A sharp left turn and 20 paces were required before I could get to the back of the line. I don't even know where to begin with the uh, décor, of the restaurant. If the architect needs to be fired, the interior designer needs to be taken out back and put out of his misery. It appears as though Cookout is able to keep prices low by purchasing surplus building materials in bulk to furnish the interior of its stores. On one wall alone, there was a schizophrenic melding of finishes such as slate, stacked stone, and heavily varnished logs that look like they were looted from a mountain cabin. That poor cabin is probably also missing some its artwork, as it's the most plausible explanation for the bull horns and framed country western scenes sparsely hung around the expansive interior. I was too stunned to count how many different materials were used in the restaurant. It was all so overwhelming. But I still had high hopes as I ordered my food. I opted for the Cookout Tray, which seems to be the most popular option at Cookout. You pick your main dish of a hamburger, chicken or barbecue sandwich and then your choice of a drink --a large Coke, sweet tea or a Cheerwine float. If soda and ice cream isn't quite indulgent enough, then for just a dollar more you can take your pick of the 20-odd milkshake flavors Cookout offers. Next, you select two sides. That's right, not just one side like your typical fast food. Two come standard here at Cookout. Some of the sides are what you'd expect: French fries, onion rings, coleslaw. And then some are... other meals. A corn dog, chicken nuggets or a quesadilla, for example. On what planet is a quesadilla a SIDE DISH?! I can think of no scenario in which a quesadilla serves as an appropriate complement to a hamburger. My fiancé and I sat at our table and quietly began our meals, still taken by the gravity of our surroundings. After a moment of quiet speculation, he looked up at me and said, "This place makes me feel bad." It's the most accurate and succinct way to describe the emotions one feels in a Cookout restaurant. Sure, the food is cheap. But at what price? I felt all too aware that I was enveloped in the mistakes of an entire generation. The visual pollution from this restaurant and its lines of cars swarming the drive-through lines were off-putting and confusing. What is the draw? What am I missing? You may be reading this and thinking, "Oh, you are just some elitist, lefty, urban-dwelling quinoa-eater. You're out of touch with America!" Not so. Hamburgers are among my favorite indulgences and I have deep appreciation for burgers across the food spectrum, from the McDonald's Big Mac to the Five Guy's little cheeseburger. I came to Cookout seeking a cult favorite that was good enough to warrant the hysteria. I was hoping to discover North Carolina's answer to California's In-N-Out Burger. While the food wasn't bad, it was... meh. A very adequate hamburger anchored by a slightly dry beef patty and dressed with vegetables that were a bit too mealy or a bit too crunchy. Flanked by French fries that weren't quite hot and crispy enough to be delicious, but not quite limp enough to be ignored. Coleslaw that was slightly too sweet and slightly too watery, but with enough crunch to warrant another bite. It's a lot of food for $5. But next time I'm craving a hamburger, I'll pony up the extra two bucks and get something that will really be worth the extra calories. Don't listen to the hype. This restaurant is nothing more than the physical manifestation of a fat joke. read more

The food is substandard to say the least and the thought behind the design behooves me. I've visited on numerous occasions and have become less and less impressed by each visit. This is last time I do business here. There have been two separate occasions I have dealt with rude employees. I worked food and bev for years, and we all know the golden rule is the customer is always right. Something isn't right, the first words out of your mouth should be an apology. BOTH TIMES I have VERY CLEARLY said "bbq STYLE CHICKEN BREAST" not sure how much clearer that gets. And BOTH times I've been given a bbq pork sandwich. The first time I was like wow whatever. I wasn't in the mood to gripe. But this second time I politely corrected the lady at the window by saying "hey, is this pork? I asked for the bbq chicken sandwich" and instead of immediately acknowledging she simply misheard me because she didn't even repeat my order back at the box. Instead of apologizing and making things right, SOFIA chose to turn to her coworker and attempt to blame me for the mistake by saying "hey if they order a bbq pork sandwich and they wanted chicken how am I supposed to correct the price" and the coworker, also rude, replies "they should say bbq chicken or bbq pork sandwich, they should clarify" I DONT THINK I COULD HAVE BEEN MORE CRYSTAL CLEAR IN SAYING BBQ STYLE CHICKEN BREAST. That is word for word off the menu. So, the person taking my order was half ass listening, and never entered it right. Her abundantly clear way of standing by the assumption that it must have been my fault, made me say "you know what, I very clearly said bbq style chicken breast, but that's okay. Nevermind." And I will NEVER return to this location. That is a terrible way to handle an issue with an order. And it's the SECOND time I've been given the wrong thing because staff cannot seem to listen. The only time they ever got my order right, the chicken breast I received was dry, small, and obviously not fresh. There was more bun than chicken. This location is a joke. That is three disappointing visits. This is by far the worst cookout I've ever been too. Drive the extra mile and go to another location. Don't waste your time or money here. I usually don't bother writing reviews for fast food restaurants, but this particular Cook-Out has wonderful service! I live right up the street so I grab it probably once a week on my way somewhere. The staff has gone above and beyond to be polite every single time - I haven't had bad service once. AND this past weekend, they had employees outside taking orders for the customers waiting in the drive-thru line so that they could get everyone through faster. Then, the woman at the drive-thru window told me it was a privilege to be able to serve me! I was in and out in less than 5 minutes and I left with a smile on my face. This is hands-down my favorite place for stress-reduction eating. Forget the Hagen Dazs, give me a grilled hot dog with coleslaw, onion rings and a milkshake and I'm good!! Everything is very reasonably priced, so that reduces stress on the wallet.. This place is quick everything - quick order, quick checkout and quick serve. You can join the hordes of college students inside the loud dining area (Ga Tech, Spellman and Clarke Atlanta are close by). I prefer to use one of the TWO drive through lines. Either way, the crowds will make you understand why this is supposedly the top producing location in the chain. Be sure and try one of the 42 flavors of milk shakes. It's more in line with Sonic but edges Sonic out a hair due to the choices that are available. For a fast food joint, this place is hard to beat. Good value price-wise and the food stands up to the hype. It's still just fast food but it's way better than your run of the mill mass produced and mass marketed burger factory I've only had burgers and a few sides so I can't say much about anything else here.
