My daughter's a fan, but me not so much. They have pros and cons so a solid 3 star seems correct. First the good. They are fast, reasonable and have like a million shake flavors. The dining room was clean and staff efficient, but no smile and no friendly demeanor. Now the not so good. The food is totally average at best. I had a cheeseburger, fries and strawberry shake. I do not like that you cannot drink from a straw. There shakes are all extra thick!!! Staff meh! After several Cookout visits they are not for me. This location is a major UVA hangout for late night bites.

they were fast but maybe too fast... we got to the front and they rushed my orderrr! but but but it's okay because at the end of the day it was 10 dollars for a burger, fries, cheese curds, and a milkshake. purrrrrr. good cheese curds but eat them fast

Really good inexpensive food! Giving 5 stars for what you get for the price and the service is always great! For some reason the burgers are always slightly overcooked, but the hushpuppies are amazing! The milkshakes are great too!

parked and went inside since they can never get my order right. was in a hurry and made the mistake of not checking. asked for hot dog with CHILI, CHEESE, and COLESLAW. no chilli, lots of cheese sauce and literally a dry sprinkle of coleslaw. pathetic you can't even assemble a fast food oder. it's been years since I have been , and NEVER again, total disappointmen!

Heard about this place and was intrigued and definitely wanted to check it out. Corn dogs as a side? Same with quesadilla , whaaat?!? Burger was thin but very tasty as was the walking taco with Doritos - chili had good flavor . Coleslaw was decent and made me feel good cuz it's veggies and I right ?!? (Lol) Usually eating food like this leaves me feeling lousy later but this didn't , nothing was greasy. Bonus they have good nugget ice! Gentleman working the counter was very nice and patient with this newbie while I ordered. Good food at a low price , get cheese curds so tasty

My classmate and I drove here based on reviews online for best burger places in town. Unfortunately, we didn't realize the inside was completely closed for dining-in. We took a few minutes to check out the menu in front of the building next to a take-out window prior to going to the drive-thru. We were both glad we did, as when we pulled up close enough to see the screen to order, the person taking our order seemed frustrated and impatient with us. The speaker for the drive-thru seemed like it was stuck in the 80s or 90s. Lots of static, which made it difficult to hear the person on the other end, so I had to ask to repeat what was said a few times. My classmate ordered the Nacho Chili burger with Cajun fries and a Chocolate Cherry milkshake. I ordered the Steak Style burger and added Cheddar cheese, along with Cajun fries and a Strawberry Cheesecake milkshake. Both my classmate and I were very happy with the size and quality of the shake and fries. However, the burger was smaller than I expected, and the added cheese was only on half my burger. My classmate learned that he would have had to ask for lettuce and tomato, since his doesn't come standard with that style of burger. Next time, I'll try a chicken sandwich with the Cheddar curds. Those sounded good, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Got a banana pudding milkshake. 10/10. Chunks of fresh banana and nilla wafers! Hard to suck though the straw (they provided spoons) but wish they had bigger straws.

Out where? They do all the cooking inside.

In most states, it is illegal for a restaurant to deny a person free water. At cook out, it costs $1.89 for water after 8pm.

A tasty, if unspectacular, burger. The fries are good and the milk shake selection is great. Nice choice if you're out at 1am.

Well, if there is a better burger in Virginia, send me a message I want to go on my next visit. Citizen Burger has a bunch of principles that they proudly display all over the place including above the toilet. All of those principles are great but wouldn't mean a thing if it didn't taste good. My buddy and I split some fried pickles which are the spear shaped kind and were solid. Then I ordered a Steakhouse burger and onion rings. Holy Shitballs the burger was good. A brioche bun (my favorite of the hamburger buns because of smashablity), cheddar, bacon, onion straws and bbq sauce. All of the toppings were great, but it could have just been bread and burger, and it still would have been delicious. The beer selection was large, I forgot how many were on tap, but I got a local IPA. The service was great as was the atmosphere. I will definitely come back the next time I am in Charlottesville.

I ordered the steak frites, and every bite was fantastic. The steak was cooked perfectly, the fries were crisp and flavorful, and even the horseradish crème fraîche was incredible. I'm usually not someone who gets excited about dipping sauces, but this one complemented the meal so well. The bartender was also outstanding. He recommended the chocolate mousse, saying he "could bathe in it." After trying it, I completely understood what he meant. It was rich, silky, and hands down one of the best chocolate mousses I've ever had. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Excellent food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere made this an easy five-star experience. I'll absolutely be back the next time I'm in Charlottesville.

The service was excellent throughout the meal. Our server, was absolutely lovely. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. She was one of the highlights of the experience. We started with the steak tartare. It was decent, but a little saltier than I would have preferred. My biggest complaint was that the accompanying bread wasn't brushed with butter or olive oil, which made it feel a bit dry and out of place alongside such a rich dish. One thing that was disappointing was the portioning of the shareable sides. The menu describes them as serving 3 to 4 people, but in our experience they were much more realistically sized for about two people. That was frustrating, especially given the overall price point. For our entrees, we ordered the ribeye, bavette, and New York strip. All of the steaks were cooked well, but I found them to be good rather than great, especially considering the price point. They just weren't particularly memorable. The ribeye, in particular, leaned a bit too far toward fatty rather than beautifully marbled, so there was more unrendered fat than I would have liked. The steak sauces were enjoyable, but they also didn't stand out in any significant way. They were well made, but nothing especially unique or memorable. Overall, I enjoyed the evening, the atmosphere, and the exceptional service. However, for a steakhouse at this price point, I expected to be more impressed by the food. Everything was solid, but nothing really wowed me or left me thinking, "I can't wait to come back." It is disappointing to have buyers remorse from such a nice restaurant.

These are fresh-cut, seasoned, & breaded, and they are ADDICTIVE! They make other ones look sad. The baked beans are cooked with brisket pieces. The sandwiches are generous, too. The meats are smoked, tender & delicious. The sauces are also handmade, not bottled. So, you're going to have sample for your preferred flavor & heat. Not a problem because they have little sauce cups that you can use. I will definitely be patronizing this locally owned & run establishment.
