To be honest I never heard of Cookout until I lived in Charlotte NC back in 2018. I was mildly curious about the place but never put much thought into trying it as I'm not big on fast food. Well after some subtle suggestions I decided to pick some up for my mother and myself. I'll keep the suspense as I continue on my description of my experience. Nothing like making you wait, right? (Now don't you go reading ahead!) Located on Main St and a side street, Cook Out is very easy to get to however I'm curious how things work during rush hour traffic. I arrived at 10:30am on a Thursday so I was the first and only one in line. After ordering I didn't understand the windows for picking up the order which the staff had to correct me. In fact, in my Dodge Durango, I couldn't make the turn to get to the window, thus I had to back up and pull forward. This is horrible design and as an engineer I'm not sure who the architect was but they're not very practical. Ok, I ordered for my mom a cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup and mayo. I ordered the cheddar style chicken sandwich with lettuce & tomato added to it however I wanted to swap out cheddar for Swiss. We both got onion rings and I got a cherry cheesecake shake while my mother got water. When I got to window, I was informed they didn't have tomatoes. I wasn't very happy about that as I love tomatoes on my sandwich. Strike two after the car accessibility issue. Next, they forgot my water even though I was charged for one, but I didn't care as I was going home. Obviously, you can see where this is going. I handed my mom the bag and she put it on the floor. I said "what are you doing, I want my rings now!" My ride home was pretty good as I will say they have the best onion rings I've had at a fast-food joint! I had heard the shakes are extremely good. While the consistency is on the money, I literally thought they dropped perfume or something very off putting in the shake. I ended up throwing it away as it was just plain nasty with the very peculiar flavor. I was disappointed with not having tomatoes, but they also forgot my mayo. I mean, I was literally the only one in line, how could they get my order wrong!? Next, they put the oozing cheese on rather than sliced as I ordered sliced cheddar (since they lack options). I didn't realize how complicated just ordering a sandwich was at this place. The chicken was a little dry but had some life in terms of charred flavor however the lettuce was a bit old and wilted. It was almost average just judging what they put on it. My mom got the cheese burger. She said hers was like cardboard and had no flavor. Overall, my experience was horrible as there's just too many mistakes when it's not even rush hour. I mean the people were nice, but they need to pay closer attention to the customer. I wouldn't recommend this place based on my only visit unless you want onion rings. Consider other options or check your order thoroughly for freshness and accuracy. read more

So I pull up to the window and she's got her back to the window, talking to some one or on her phone - I blow the horn - she finally looks around I ask her if I can order she says " no u can't order her u have to go back around in the drive thru " !? there is always a bunch of kids in white jacked up trucks that BLOCK THE ENTIRE PARKING LOT every single night. i love the food but when one shirtless kid parks his truck in the middle of the exit and hops out to go talk to another of his shirtless friends in another truck, and i have to sit there for 5-10 minutes waiting for them to finish their little conversation it makes me REALLY not want to ever come back to this spot. read more

Since the pandemic, it seems only Chick-fil-A can move a drive-in line quickly but THIS location was very fast! It was busy and both drive-in lines were long but my total wait was under 10 minutes from getting in line to receiving my order. The food; the fries were very good just a bit to much salt for me but that is my preference. I ordered the huge burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup and mayo. This burger lived up to its name, it was HUGE(1/2 pound). I had a 7 minute drive back to my hotel and it was still very hot when I opened up the packaging. My family and I pick a new place each month to have dinner. So this month we picked a cookout and let me tell you if you want a good shake that has multiple flavor options This is the place for you. However if you want food Might consider passing it by!!!! This evening ordered a cheeseburger with A1 sauce grilled onions and lettuce. The service was kinda excusable only cause it was busy. I had to give my order twice at the menu board and at the window they asked us five times what we ordered. There was only one car and it had just pulled up, and I told him "yea, only one, yall have to lanes, gimme a minute" and he said you need to hurry up pull forward and go to the walk up menu if you need more time, and this happened in a span of 15-20 seconds of even acknowledging us when we pulled up, then my girlfriend started ordering and he was very rude and short and kept cutting her off, very rude tone of voice, absolutely terrible customer service! So I told him his service was terrible and we took out business elsewhere. One of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. Given that Cook Out is a fast food place, you usually don't expect too much. This location doesn't have an indoor space, but they have 2 drive-thrus and an option to walk up to a 3rd window to order. Get the "tray" - it's a great value. You get a sandwich option, 2 sides & a drink for less than $5. You can't beat it. Everything is usually correct, and seems decently fresh. If it isn't that fresh, at least it's still warm, which is more than I can say for some other fast food places. read more

I don't care what anyone says. I love cookout. The food is like an actual grill out session and the prices cannot be beat. Have been a fan since early 2000's in Greensboro. Open late night. And the milkshake options..... whatever you can dream. You can get a cheesecake health bar snickers milkshake if your heart desires, and the price doesn't change. So many options for only a dollar, or a dollar and change, or even 2. It's challenging to exercise will power here, at least for me. This is why I go once every few months. Love doing the cook out tray where can select any sandwich (I go for cheddar style small upcharge) and two sides. Best value is to go with two honey mustard chicken wraps, but plenty to choose from! The Trays vary in price by state, NC and SC, between $4.50 and $6. Still a deal either way. Also... definitely get the always piping hot 12 count hush puppies for only $1. Honey mustard dipping sauce. Cannot go wrong! Have never had an issue with getting through the drive thru quickly, the pay their employees well, and some even have indoor seating which is surprisingly nice. Love y'all read more

There was no line and the restaurant was not busy but when I pulled up to the window, the cashier Alicia was very impatient with me. I was pretty upset because she messed up the order and I had to go back up to the window and fix it, but when I got home, an hour after I got home, I realized that she had taken my card information and has purchased stuff using my card and I have not used my card today otherwise! My first visit to a Cook Out ! I pulled into the drive thru 2 minutes after they opened and was cheerfully greeted. It seemed like no time at all and my order was already in my hands. I'm going to say that everything was delicious and a surprisingly high quality. I don't necessarily place a high degree of expectation on burger places because, let's face it. It's drive thru. I love cookout but unfortunately I will not come back to this one. The workers are rude, and can't even look you in the eye and treat you like a human who's contributing to their paycheck. My kids love Cook Out and get excited when I allow them the occasional visit there. The food is good, especially the Wisconsin White Cheddar Cheese Bites, which I really wish I had never tried because those babies will NOT be friendly to my waistline. But, they are oh - so - good! Their shakes are just okay, nothing to shout about but it's a nice treat when you're out late and nothing else is open. I like that they have a few good vegetarian options, as well. I recommend the cheese quesadilla and the BLT minus the B with extra T. This location does not have an inside seating space, which seems weird and wasteful when it comes to the use of the building space. It does have two drive thru's and a walk-up window. The walk-up window is very slow. The workers definitely focus on the drive-thru. One time, I took my daughter to the walk-up window because we were in a hurry and the drive-thru lines were super long. We waited so long that we realized we could have easily made it through the drive-thru by the time they ever got to us (and stayed in an air-conditioned car). All in all, I would say this is a great place if you are in a hurry or up with those late night munchies. They do a good job and adjust menu items upon request. read more
