Was able to snag the prosciutto and beurre on baguette for lunch at Cookbook today, and promptly found my new favorite item! Shoutout to Josh, who works behind the bakery counter, for his recommendations.

Cookbook is such cute place! Love the high-quality, locally sourced things and the staff is very nice. Some interesting sauces from all over the world too, and even found a pasta that looked good for dinner. Definitely a fun spot to drop by after eating some Home State next door and realizing you have nothing at home for dinner.

I LOVE this place. The staff are all really nice and tge food is awesome. When they have the bread that looks like a ribcage, I have to get it. It has so much of the chewy exterior that I love with a soft interior. They have vegetables that you can't get anywhere else, like frisee and kumquats. And I you use a California ebt card they except it. The specialty pastries on the weekend are GREAT. Like the blood orange hearts with cream that they had last sunday.

Cookbook has slowly been growing on me. The first time I went it was purely out of curiosity. They had unique items like lemon cucumber, purple green beans, mandarinquat, red garlic and the most beautiful assortment of wild flowers that changes daily. I tried their infamous prosciutto dan, simple yet delish (baguette, butter & prosciutto). They also sell Nuri Brand sardines from Portugal. I saw a special on this cannery on Youtube and had to get my hands on them one day but was iffy about paying $10 for a can on eBay. Well lo and behold, I randomly looked at the glass case under the register and bam there it was for $5 a can, score! This is definitely a higher priced neighborhood market but the cleanliness, hard to find items and quality of their products makes the price point more understandable. Shout out to the fellow who let me in right at 8am with open arms and provided me with outstanding customer service!!

I came here looking for a fairly healthy snack to hold me over while I was getting my hair done. I got a bird seed bar and a chocolate dipped macaroon. Both were good and yes, I needed 2 snacks. The bird seed bar was tasty and was filled with nuts. The chocolate macaroon was delicious. It tasted different from other macaroons I've tasted in the past and it seemed like there was a particular spice they put which tasted Indian. The store has fresh vegetables, fruits, pre-made food such as guacamole, hummus, etc. It's a pretty store located on a busy street. It's pricey, but stores along Figueroa are trending that way.

1/4 of the donut. So delish.

Three years…read moreago they moved to their own brick and mortar a half block south of the Market on the corner of 4th and Broadway. This larger space now serves as a cheese shop, upscale market and fast-casual eatery. I came here for lunch after walking through GCM and not feeling inspired. They still offer a large case of cheeses from around the world, which can be purchased by weight. I think a large part of their business is creating made-to-order charcuterie platters and boards of cheeses and meats. In their deli case, they have grab and go plates of 3 cheeses (meat optional), pickles and dried fruit. The gourmet market also offers fresh produce, specialty items like premium butters, Rancho Gordo beans, house made items like chicken stock, pickles, etc, and meats. Plus fresh juices and lemonade and canned/bottled drinks. I came for the eatery. They offer cold sandwiches and breads, plus made to order hot sandwiches. They have an attractive Sunday Brunch menu also. I went with the ham melt, which is their OG grilled cheese with ham added. I also ordered their "Always Creamy Tomato Soup", both to go. The soup was delish. It came with garlicky croutons which alas were soggy by the time I ate them. The sandwich was excellent. It had 3 different cheeses, ham, and caramelized onions on brioche. It was grilled to perfection with a substantial cheese skirt, and came with pickles and whole grain mustard. A very tasty lunch and a nice alternative to GCM. They had a fair amount of seating if you decide to eat in. I'd definitely shop their market more extensively next time, and would like to try their brunch someday. They also have a wine/champagne/tinned fish bar next door called Kippered, that was packed when I walked by in the evening.

They also have happy hour Tuesdays-Thursday from 2:00-5:30pm, where they offer house wines for $5 and personal cheese board for $10. For boards, I usually get the Goldilocks specialty board, which comes with 3 cheeses ranging in texture from soft to hard. For an additional cost, you can add meat: prosciutto, salami, Spanish chorizo, or half & half of any two. For paninis, everything I've tried was very good. I've had the Signature which has a double-cream brie, pear slices, mixed greens, and fig jam. Lib Grilled Cheese comes with three premium cheese blend, grilled with olive oil, and minced garlic. All paninis are on their sourdough bread and served with their signature side salad. The decor here is very cute - showcasing their cheese fridge and shelves lined with wines and jams available for purchase. There are some tables both indoors and outside. I recently saw that they host events, offer quick same-day catering within 2-3 hours of ordering, and deliver for orders up to 50 people! Always coming back for their cheese boards and great happy hour!

It was pretty quiet, yet we were barely greeted by the staff. To make matters worse, another patron was changing their 2-year-old's diaper right there on the patio. It was completely "butt baked" and extremely unappetizing while trying to eat. Food we ordered : * Pâté Sandwich: The pâté itself was actually good, but it was ruined by a ton of mustard. I had to scrape it off just to eat it as the mustard completely overpowered the sandwich. * Salmon Sandwich: Very bland and lacked flavor. Side sales were bland. We had to ask for extra dressing. * Iced Coffee: There was something "weird" floating in my coffee. Between the hygiene issues on the patio, and the mediocre food, I won't be back. Maybe I should have just stuck with wine and cheese.

We came in on a Saturday and was unable to find street parking so as others advised, I had my friend watch the car and drive around as I made my way to the shop. The shop was so cute, it's small but with everything you'd need for a cheese and meat party including breads, canned additions/fish, and wines! I grabbed a fresh loaf of baguette to add to the order. Both trays were ready and absolutely fresh. The honorable cheesemongers overlooking shop were very nice and helpful! One female worker was providing samples for a gentleman when he asked for recommendations and my cheesemonger asked what kind of cheese texture I generally liked and offered to give me a cheese from three different animals, which I thought was absolutely awesome! She even offered to help me carry my trays out. The veggie tray was awesome, a great size, half pickled half not pickled, the dips were both amazing! We got the green goddess and Calabrian chili aioli and both were such a hit at our get together. The peppers are slightly spicy and were so delicious. We loved the variety of cheese and did not have a single cheese we didn't like. The petite toasts with the meat and cheese board is a must! So good and crispy and a perfect size for a bite. The trays were really sturdy and we appreciated the care put into the layout. We'll definitely be back Oh La Vache!
