Cool Beans is bright and airy, with soft music, a book collection, a beautiful large crystal chandler and a blend of antique and contemporary furnishings. The coffee shop offers sandwiches, salads, muffins, and bagels in addition to a choice of espresso, iced drinks and flavored coffees. 7/13/17 So....I went to Cool Beans again, today and it will be the last time. My Acai bowl was absolutely terrible and I paid way too much! The staff is so inconsistent with how they prepare things that I find it really frustrating! Today's Acai bowl had only 4 raspberry's and 6 blueberry's. There was hardly any granola and poorly blended. I walked away feeling pissed. If the staff paid more attention to their customers and less to theirs visiting friends (a daily occurrence) perhaps they'd be more consistent. It's so dirty in the cafe, seriously filthy. Horrible service. I was there around 2:00 on Sunday - July 19th. While I know you get what you get when you hire 20-somethings to work at a coffee shop over the summer... someone needs to teach those girls a few things about prioritizing, customer service, and cooking behind the scenes. 1. a group of girls (three 16 year olds) ran in front of my cousin and I and behind my sister. Whatever. I was holding water hoping to order and iced coffee and pay quick and easy. The girls order food - then BOTH of the girls working proceeded to make the food. Designate ONE person to do the food prep. 2. smile and be polite... apologize for the wait. Anything. 3. If I were order a salad with mango on it - I'd definitely not want to see you pull the frozen bag of "Dole mango chunks" for my salad. Like I said - you get what you get when you hire young people. This is a great spot. It's close to the water, has fun, youthful decor, and quite a bit of seating. The coffee is good, so are paninis, but the Buddha Bowl is really something to order if you enjoy nutrient-dense food. Nice employees and decent music (better depending on the baristas present). Service is bad. Walked in and only one person was in front of me, they placed a large order so it took a while. However there were 4 or 5 girls working, not one acknowledged that I was in line or waiting to be served. A random person who was not working was behind the bar discussing a break up from the night before to 2 of the workers, whom should have been assisting customers. As I'm still waiting a gentlemen comes in- a friend of a worker and she is quickly eager to assist him all before anyone assisted myself. All in all service is slow every time. The place and location are really nice. It has that Rhode Island kinda feel. On the other hand, their coffee wasn't so great. Then I bit into it and it was so stale and hard I couldn't even eat it and I eat almost everything. Really cool environment, located close to the beach. The only guy that works there was super sweet and incredibly helpful. Awesome customer service from him made it easier to drown out the profane, completely inappropriate and degrading conversations spewing from the mouths of the younger female staff. I work in Narragansett during the summer and I will always stop by a few times a season to get an açaí bowl. I consider myself an açaí connoisseur and they have the best bowls in Rhode Island. Always a good amount of granola, and the serving is pretty large. I have never been disappointed, but do expect a wait though as they are usually busy, but very well worth it. read more

the food is super yummy!! typically, i drop by once a month, as cool beans is one of my personal favorites. i definitely recommend ordering the açaí bowl. their sandwiches are super yummy, along with their baked goods, and beverages (the chai is to die for!). with all of this being said, unfortunately, the service is pretty slow, there's almost always a long line, and the employees aren't as nice as they could be. however, i absolutely recommend you visit at least once. personally, i would say it's worth the wait (you'll see what i'm talking about once you taste the food) :) read more

Stopped in to get a quick iced coffee and chocolate chip cookie after two shoots in the south county area today. The cookie still had that fresh from the oven gooeyness even though it was 4 o'clock when I purchased it. The iced coffee was refreshing, nice and strong the way I like it. So I took my order to go because I had to get home, I would definitely sit here for a while and enjoy my coffee. It overlooks a busy street in Narragansett which is sure to be good people watching material in the summertime. The two ladies behind the counter were very friendly but it appeared that they were stressing out a little bit, struggling to keep up with the afternoon demand for coffees and espressos. This is a great place to have in The Pier. A classy almost funky coffee house right down the street from the beach and the library. One wall is painted with that Blackboard paint so that the wall next to the entrance is usually covered with temporary artwork and quotes. They have couches and stuffed chairs as well as tables and the coffee service area where you dilute your drink of choice is an old hutch. The curvy counter echos the curvy ceiling and the atmosphere is comforting. The coffee reminds me of cafes I'd frequent in the 80s and 90s. They have recently started selling alcohol, beer and wine in bottles. Their sandwiches are pretty good and so are their pastries. They usually have a vegetarian or vegan dish for those who are interested in that. I don't go here for the food, I go for the ambiance. I don't pay attention to the music so I've not had a problem with it. I usually come here to meet friends or with Kev so I kind of filter it out. This place has BIG windows that look at Trios but it's actually pretty when it rains. The little side tables and comfy seats are appealing enough to distract me from paying attention to the outside world. When the sun shines in the light floods the coffee shop in the nicest way. I almost never come here in the summer. I hate The Pier tourist crowds. In the Fall, Winter and Summer though it's usually a good cure for cabin fever. Sometimes there are teenagers here but for the most part they're not obnoxious. Older Yuppie couples come here as well as the local characters. this place is one of the only places around with açaí bowls, and we have never had a better bowl! we cant get enough, we come here almost weekly. They are a little pricey (about $10) but, cool beans gives you the most for your dollar. The lovely employees fill the bowl with acaí smoothie, fresh, delicious berries, a sprinkle of toasted coconut and crunchy nature valley granola (personally my favorite part). Negatives: Furniture is worn and uninviting; floors need a good washing as well as an updated decor. Some staff need lessons in manners - attitude is one of "I really do not want to work ." Easily my favorite coffee shop in RI! I usually get a caramel iced coffee and it's absolutely perfect. I order it black and the caramel lightens it just a tad. Result is a dark iced coffee with a hint of sweetness. So refreshing. I enjoy the atmosphere and The comfortable seating. If you have a sweet tooth there's plenty to try. The girl taking our order was incompetent and could not understand proper English. She messed up one of our orders and we were very nice and just wanted to fix the problem she was rolling her eyes. I desperately wanted to give this place 5 stars; unfortunately, I think 3 is generous. Cute name, great location, you even have some parking available, in spite of being so close to the beach. We walked in on a Sunday morning and noted 2 large trash cans overflowed onto the floor. The cream station had trash an spilled beverages on it. Itwas crowded and difficult to figure out where the line was because people were standing everywhere just eating and drinking; including where the quasi line was. When we finally figured out where to stand, and we were standing there for about 15 minutes, I had time to observe what was going on. I had a view of where the breakfast sandwiches were being made. There was a young lady making sandwiches, with gloves on, while simultaneously eating her own sandwich; taking bites while cutting tomatoes, really? When we finally reached the end of the line and I tried to order a medium roast, the young lady looked baffled. She said house, bold or decaf. Okay, but the board said the house was a bold blend...I just wanted my coffee so I said house blend was fine. As the young lady taking my order was waiting for me to make a decision, she put her hand inside my cup a minimum of 5 times, I know, I don't know why either. I think it was a nervous habit. So, the reason it got a 3 was because the ladies working there were pleasant and working hard. There were trying to meet everyone's needs but we're clearly understaffed and under trained. Shame on the manager for not explaining you don't eat while you serve or not getting enough staff to allow them to take a break. They were all young and appeared to be inexperienced. Although they had a nice variety of food choices, we were very surprised that there wasn't a good variety of coffees, particularly since it's called Cool Beans.
