Came here for the first time this weekend and it's very cute. The wait was about 30 minutes so we went and walked around the neighborhood. When we were called, we walked back and were seated fairly fast. The order taking process was a little interesting and the servers couldn't agree on who had us or maybe that's their system? Idk, but that was strange and made things confusing/slow. Our food was okay, but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is very cute and it was $16 for two people which you can't beat in the city. I know I should try new places, but some places are just too good not to come back to. It was a cool moose breakfast kind of day. A bit of a wait, but it was because they were leaving space. The hostess Michelle was so gracious and friendly the 15-20 minutes were nothing. We helped ourselves to delicious cool moose coffee and were soon seated. Our server was Laurie - a gem. Used to go here quite frequently, I'd get the two pieces of chicken on the biscuits covered in gravy. Then they started just using one piece cut in half, which was ok. Then, the price went up and I started frequenting Cool Moose less. About a week ago, after months of abstaining, I finally decided to go back. The manager checked my bag before I walked out and sent me on my way. Not only was it missing my cheese grits and home fries, but the sausage egg and cheese that I ordered was instead bacon. Driest, most bland breakfast sandwich, and at a price of $7, quite laughable. I called to express my complaints and the manager said she'd refund the incorrect items back to my card. It's been a week and still no refund. Shame that this was my last time at cool moose, as the biscuits and gravy (however overpriced) were always pretty solid. read more

Really good breakfast place!! Went here on Easter Sunday because it was one of the only restaurants open. Because it was our first visit the server gave a complimentary muffin. Everything was really good. Ordered the pancakes, french toast, and breakfast burrito but this was more than enough food for two people. Huge portion sizes and we definitely had leftovers. What an amazing place! The two omlets were an eclectic blend of flavors that most would normally not even agree to put together. The awesomeness of how those ingredients made two of the most tasteful dishes is ingenious. The amount of food is sufficient for even the famished at heart. This is our second time giving cool moose a try. Our first go wasn't terrible- the waitress was actually pretty great. But today's visit definitely changed our mind. Our waitress passed us multiple times and it was as if we weren't there. She didn't check on us once. The pumpkin pancake with pecans gave me the warm and fuzzies of the autumnal season. The cakes had a nice crispy edge with a fluffy center. Plenty of pecans were within the batter. I also ordered turkey sausage patties and cheesy scrambled eggs...I ate everything! Cool Moose has a bottomless coffee bar with rotating unique flavors. I tried blueberry and caramel pecan both were pretty good. The pecan flavor was very popular. Lastly, our server Tina was awesome. She was warm and personable and helped us decide on what to order. This place was highly recommended for brunch by a few locals to my friend and I. It did not disappoint!! Mimosas were only $4 and on weekends they do buy one get one which is awesome! We ordered the Hemingway and traditional Benedict (sauce was fabulous) along with the Belgian waffle. The staff was extremely pleasant and had great service we felt welcomed right away walking in. I only gave 4 stars because the cheese grits I think could've been better and my friend had to ask for more salmon for her Benedict because the slice on there was tiny. Although the three stars, I just want to state out front that I really did like the concept and the atmosphere here. Due to the execution of the food and the hustle and bustle of the Saturday brunch crowd determines my rating. Weekend brunch obviously draws huge crowds. They told us it'd be a 20 minute wait and it was. We ended up grabbing two seats at the counter, so we had a front row seat to all the action. Different waitresses took our food and drink orders. They were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. But throughout the mayhem, it's worth noting that they remained friendly and kind. I ordered the Hemingway. An eggs benedict dish served with roasted potatoes. And although the price was right, the flavor was more meh than anything else. The portion size was small. The presentation was skimpy. It needed to be spruced up. It's something I could've made at home. My opinion would be this is the type of place that would be ideal during a midweek afternoon. My book club decided kind of spur of the moment to try Cool Moose Cafe because they had an open spot to park in front (maybe not the best reason to chose a restaurant?). Anyway they are a breakfast and lunch place but to try and get something a little off the menu may not be a good choice. For a couple of us it was not!? Let me explain... they have 4 lunch salads with meat/protein on them AND for another $4 you could get chicken salad added! Why they had no salad with chicken salad was a question I asked (no answer) so I ask how big is a side salad and it is ok but our server said she'd order me a double salad with the chic salad for $12, more then the regular menu lunches but not wanting the sandwich (carbs) I say ok. The two friends who ordered elaborate grilled cheese sandwiches were very pleased. One friend ordered the chic salad croissant and when she opened it- half of the bread was empty! Our salads had about 1/3 cup of chic salad and my other friend complained. Server went came back and said they ran out so just split it with all three of us! Not acceptable as far as we was concerned so they'd make more....ok. They brought it out on a small plate, again not much and very watery but none for the croissant sandwich. SO I would NOT recommend their chicken salad AND as a suggestions, if you have it on the menu-make sure it is good or don't offer it! I did mention these things to the manager and she offered to give us a gift card for $10 ( my salad was $12) to three of us with the chicken salad to come try again!?? I am so glad I decided to try Cool Moose Cafe again after our less then pleased 1st time with my book club girlfriends! We came on a Sat. about 12:30 and it was packed! It appeared a lot of people were enjoying a late breakfast but we wanted a lunch and ordered the Cobb salad and Cuban sandwich to split. My boyfriend and I were looking for a brunch spot in Riverside and we found this place and decided to stop in. We missed the massive wait but there was one after we were seated. There is a lot of yummy brunch and lunch options for a variety of palates, preferences and diet restrictions. I got the brioche French toast with berries and my boyfriend got the spicy chicken and waffles. Both were delicious, nice sized portions. I believe they even have mimosas but we didn't order any. There's also specials on a big TV screen which I totally missed. If I come back I would definitely order a special. I only noticed them after our waitress put our order in. Cool Moose is a fun place to go. It's located near the corner of Park & King, a great little stop just south of 5 Points in Riverside. There is plenty of parking on either side of Park Street, but please be patient when you have to back out of your spot since it is a busy little intersection. The restaurant itself, is clean and kitschy, cement floors, exposed rafters and decorated with Maine paraphernalia like license plates, paintings, knickknacks, etc. Nice surprise in NE Florida. There is free WiFi and a couple of outdoor tables. I've had a variety of food from Cool Moose and have enjoyed almost all of it. The self-serve coffee & tea bar is excellent and a really nice touch. They do a great breakfast here. Lots of variety in omelets and eggs Benedict and always fresh muffins. The breakfast sandwich on a croissant (panini-style) is huge and unbelievably delicious, a heck of a better deal than those fast food places that serve similar. Both the corned beef hash (handmade, not canned) and the home fries are fantastic - but don't order the grits. In fact, that is my only complaint - the grits taste like instant. Seriously, these are not Southern-style grits. Lunch is always good here too, good solid standard sandwiches. My husband is a huge fan of their Rubens and everyone I've met loves their sweet potato fries (except me, but then I just don't like sweet potatoes). Their soup menu changes daily, but keep an eye out for the butternut squash soup - my son raves about that. The prices are good. Yes, the service can be slow at times, but the food here is cooked from scratch and they do an excellent job at it - so I really don't mind. Before heading off on our Free Comic Book Day adventure, my niece and I decided on Cool Moose for breakfast. It was a rainy, dreary day and it seemed many others had our same idea. Upon walking in, there were no tables available, so we just sat and the counter. This place is completely reminiscent of the little family owned breakfast joints back home in CT, and throughout New England. I spotted some Red Sox memorabilia and asked our waitress who the Boston fan was. Apparently, the owner is originally from Maine. So yay for finding some hometown feel down South! My one goal, here in Jax, is to find a place that does good corned beef hash. I haven't been able to find a joint down here, as of yet, that does it justice. As a rather New England-ish place, I asked if it was a part of their daily menu, but I was let down to find out that it only comes as a special on certain days. I guess I'll just have to keep a look out for when it comes up. My niece ordered a BLT with some silver dollar pancakes, and I ordered a Bacon and Egg sandwich with some home fries. My sandwich was huge and I could hardly finish it. I was a little let down on my home fries as they were just chunks of red potatoes, and not what I'd expect, but they were good nonetheless. Wanted to try this place for the longest. Today we got there around 11 and was told 15-30 minutes wait time. Seemed a lot longer but we were able to keep ourselves occupied with Pokemon Go (plenty of stops in one spot). After checking in, I see we're next on the list. But then we weren't. A six top was seated before our four top was, okay... Get to our seats and the service is slow. Not saying they didn't have workers, but none that came over. One guy brings four waters and then leaves. I'm not a fan of places that immediately bring water to the table, especially when the table is small and there are kids in the party. Leads to spills and condensation on the table making it un enjoyable IMO. So finally a server comes over and gets the orders for us and the other four tables around us. She's nice and lets us know the kitchen may be a little behind with all the orders she's about to put in. We've ordered, and we sit. I did opt for the coffee bar, which was the highlight of the meal. Unlimited self serve coffee that you can get up and get yourself. My cup was always full and the taste was great! I did have one server clear off all the unused waters that were sitting and dripping condensation on the table. Hubby received a refill coke with a new glass that had a crack in it, so there was coke and water all over the table at this point. I can't enjoy myself if there is standing water on the table. Then the food came. I was excited the menu offered carnitas, but the omelet had very little meat on it. Waffle House has bigger omelets. The cheese grits were okay but were weird, hominy maybe? The English muffin was rough. I ordered The Columbian omelet, but had to get salsa because it was dry. Hubby ordered The Swamp Thing omelet. The ingredients were sparse. Son ordered The French toast. 4 triangles of French toast (he had no complaints). Daughter ordered chicken a waffles. One waffle cut in half with two chicken tenders between. Chicken was dry. She asked for ranch to help with the chicken. Ranch cup brought expired eight days ago. Last thing, you have to be careful in there. The floors are uneven and there are many different layers. You walk in and if you go to the left you have to step down. If you go to the bathroom there is a step up and the tiles in the bathroom are uneven. Place could use a remodel for sure. read more

I was in Jax visiting a friend and was told that Cool Moose was one of the best places in town for brunch - I was not told wrong! The wait to get in on a Saturday around noon was about 20 minutes, but the hosts and servers were all very nice and we were able to walk around outside around the cute little shops while we waited. They have an amazing selection of coffee!! It's self-serve coffee and they have a ton of different flavor (my friend actually had me mix two flavors and that tasted amazing too). I ended up getting the Homemade Hash which was incredible; I was also extremely stuffed after that because even though I was full 3/4 of the way through I literally could not stop eating it was that good. I've been a patron of Cool Moose since is opened in 1997/98. While the ownership has changed the food has always been consistently great! For a while I ate breakfast here consistently every Friday and the service was always good! Since the pandemic hit I've noticed that the service has been lacking. In February I ordered 3 breakfast sandwhiches via their app with a pick up time of 10:25 am. My order wasn't completed until 11:25 am and it was incorrect. I asked several times and was ingnored by the owner and waitstaff. I was also overcharged by $10 but didn't bother to say anything because I figured it'd take me forever to get out of there. The past four times I've been in - I left after waiting for over 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge me; was waited on but it took 45 mins for scrambled eggs. Servers are generally friendly but it gets hectic in there and they always have a sense of urgency (meaning they are very busy). Their breakfast staples are my go tos when I am looking for something savory. The Rise and Shine--mine with over easy eggs and sausage, you can't go wrong. If I'm feeling frisky, I'll get the lox and bagel (toasted of course) and if I'm feeling really frisky, I'll get an over easy egg over it. Yes! Let me start by saying I am not a biscuit fan. Never have been, I find them to be dry the majority of the time and too heavy... the biscuits they serve at this place MELT in your mouth. I have lived in the South my whole life and have NEVER had a biscuit this good. We got the Mexican Benedict and Hemingway Benedict and both were amazing but oh my god the Mexican one made me want to keep eating until I exploded The home fries taste like they are seasoned with Old Bay (which I loved) and they are super fresh! The service was amazing! Our waitress Hannah was such a sweet person, told us we didn't have to tip because they make above minimum wage and have multiple other benefits working there (I still tipped because I was so happy with my experience). I had another woman come by and ask if we had been there, and we told her it was our first time in, she thanked us and had them bring over a free cranberry biscuit since it was our first time in! That was also to die for. I can't recommend this place enough. If they have a wait - you wait because it is worth it. It tastes like fall and like any basic girl, I love the way fall tastes. The homemade hash has red potatoes, butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, and a little brisket and it come with eggs... omg so good. My hubs had an omelet and it was huge!! The potatoes it came with were ok, just needed some seasoning but other than that, so good! We both opted for the 2-4-1 mimosas which were fantastic. Then hubs got a frozen mocha so I had to get a frozen coffee at the end of the meal. The place gets busy fast but outside seating and bar seating is first come first serve so we sat right down. We arrived on a saturday afternoon around 12:30 pm. Crowded, but clearly, folks were getting seated. Free coffee while you waited didn't hurt. I ordered the pancakes with bacon and eggs. The flatjacks were solid, not too filling. My father had the breakfast burrito where he didn't leave any remains. The staff was very engaging and welcoming. We missed out on early bakery goods, but it was nice to hear that was offered if we came in the 8-10 am gap. Close quarters, but people are generally in a better mood with great food being served. I first discovered Cool Moose in late 2003 when I worked within walking distance and haven't been that close in many years, but still make the trek as often as possible. On Saturday mornings there is often quite a wait, but you're invited to get coffee to drink while you wait. I LOVE the Blueberry coffee, and never skip it. Today was Mother's Day, and I did enter and win a "skip the line" pass and gift card, but because I've been so many times, I know my review isn't influenced. The place is super busy, but the service is great. My favorite entree is the Irish Hash, which is potatoes, Brussel sprouts, onions, corned beef, greens and an egg on top. Also not to be missed is the grilledMorning Glory muffin. My mom had the Brioche French Toast and loved it. It was very thick, cooked perfectly she said, and served with fruit and warm maple syrup.
