Soft Shell Crab Tacos, BANG-BANG SHRIMP
    Michael C.

Super big seafood place in Scranton, Pa ordered oysters, soft shell crab taco, and some kind of bang bang shrimp plus clam chowder soup. The soup was great, soft shell crab tacos to much breading but good, bang bang shrimp was fine and the oysters seemed a little old. Three stars because the place is a little unique and super big and plenty of what looks like bars and bar space throughout. Last thing staff was friendly but they gave us someone else check which we did not notice until the next day. Place plays cool music in the rest room it is worth a stop to grab a bite and have some fun.

Ambiance is amazing! So much cool stuff to look at and not just "The Office" themed stuff. Staff was very attentive. I had the burger and fries and it was pretty good. The fries were my favorite part. So my much interesting stuff to look at all throughout the place.

Coopers is more than just a restaurant -- it's a local icon. The moment you walk in, the nautical décor and walls filled with old photos and keepsakes tell stories from its 70+ years in the neighborhood. My husband, who was in town for a high school reunion, even spotted two of his grade school photos on display -- such a fun surprise and a trip down memory lane. The food lives up to its reputation for fresh seafood. The Crab Pretzel was warm and loaded with creamy crab and cheese. The Crispy Sesame Brussels Sprouts were a great twist -- perfectly crisp with a sesame glaze that really worked. My husband's Cedar-Planked Salmon was tender and flavorful, and my Seafood Crêpes were rich, creamy, and generously filled with chunks of shrimp, scallops and lobster. Even during a busy dinner rush, the service was friendly and prompt. Coopers has that rare mix of history, good food, and genuine warmth that makes you want to come back again and again. There's even a World map showing where visitors have come from!

Crab bisque was delicious, as was my daughter's Manhattan Clam Chowder. Side salads were huge and super fresh. Wife had gluten free crab cakes and they even had a pick in them marked as gluten free so there was no confusion - this is an important consideration and she really enjoyed her meal. My crab cake sandwich was crispy and not soggy, and a generous portion, as were the fries and coleslaw that came with it. Daughter had shrimp scampi with gorgeous huge shrimp over linguini in an amazing sauce. Special occasion meal, worth every penny

Cooper's is so iconic! It was a treat on this visit. We came for half price bottles of wine on a Wednesday. THE FOOD -alligator bites are a must have. They are so delicious, almost like a white fish taste and chicken consistency. We loved the remolaude they were served with. I think in the past they've done a buffalo sauce special of them as well which is just as good! And of course you get your gator taster pins -the fries are very well seasoned! We were here for a casual wine lunch (lol) and enjoyed splitting these two apps. THE DRINKS -in the summer on the patio it's always fun to get one of their speciality cocktails (tho many tend to be sugary, so be warned) today we were here for wine! -we chose a lovely bottle of Pinot Grigio that came out to maybe $11 after the special? Was great with our gator and fries. -they also had a wide selection of other wines and beer if you're looking for options! THE SERVICE -our server was super sweet and attentive! -she was knowledgeable but when I had a question she didn't know the answer to she made sure to ask the kitchen for me THE ATMOSPHERE -like I said, iconic. You're greeted by a shark, multiple pirates, a huge lighthouse, and an octopus overlooking all of that . -the different themes all around the restaurant and historic things to look at is incredible. You can have a new experience every time you go! As a kid I used to love looking at the little figurine displays inset in the walls and as an adult I still have to walk down the hallway and take a peek at the Flintstones. Overall, I will definitely be back as we really enjoyed our food (and I converted my friend to a gator eater!). I feel like quite a few years back the food seemed like it had gone downhill, but I can say with confidence my last few visits I over the past 4-5 years have definitely been delicious. Way to go, Coopers!

Who would have thunk a great seafood restaurant in Scranton, PA?! The French onion soup was excellent, the salmon was cooked perfectly and fantastic beer menu. Finished w delicious rice pudding. Bar tender Mario was very attentive yet not overbearing (he was so busy, especially for a Tuesday night!)

Best damn seafood place I've ever been to. Place is awesome , food is on the money wow worth every penny. The facility is beautiful. The bathrooms are beautiful. The staff is absolutely amazing. Their service was quick. The prices are reasonable. I drove an hour and a half one way from New York and I'll do it again very soon. Worth my time driving. Thank you

Sure, Cooper's is mentioned in The Office, but the seafood there is LEGIT! Went there for lunch today and ordered the special, which was a bowl of Maryland Crab Bisque, six fried shrimp (perfect) and a solid lobster tail that I'm sure was fantastic, but I didn't get to try it! Shrimp, fries, soup, and cole slaw was too much to eat, so I figured I would take it to go and eat it on New Year's. Brought the lobster tail back to my genius daughter's house, who said "Leave the food on the porch, it's colder outside than in the fridge." Bad idea. A racoon got the lobster tail, before I could save it. I'm sure it would have been great. Hope that monster enjoyed it! Other than that, great place, cool atmosphere, affordable prices, nice vibes, great beer list! They even had an acoustic trio going from to room playing tunes. They also had a retail seafood market sale today that ends on 12/31. Bought some great-looking crab cakes which I hope to eat on New Year's Eve. They will most definitely go into the fridge.

We chose Cooper's for dinner primarily because of their ties to The Office and we were glad we did. I chose the fish of the day which was Haddock. It was served broiled with your choice of two sides of which I chose broccoli and a garden salad. Husband had the fish and chips. We both enjoyed our meals very much. The veggies were fresh. The Haddock had a nice flavor. The fish and chips were light and not greasy as they sometimes can be. Our server was fantastic. So friendly and helpful with the menu. The vibe was sort of supper club, sort of out of this world. With vignettes throughout (including Star Wars, Flintstones, and GI Joe), a toy train that ran along the ceiling, a lighthouse that was part of the architecture, and, of course, an Office gift shop, there was a little bit of something for everyone. Nice stop plus we got a map of other Office locations we can check out before we leave Scranton. So fun!

It's also worth noting that expecting a good pescatarian experience at a barbecue joint is more of a me problem. In terms of the space, it had a laid back feel. Not too fancy. Just a bar, with an outdoor patio out back. Lot's of wood surfaces. A good amount of space. It felt comfortable. In terms of the staff, they were generally very attentive. Not fine dining level, but about what you would expect at a neighborhood bar. They did the job and conversed with various customers. In terms of food, everything was fine. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos with a side salad. The side salad was fine. Fresh ingredients. Well presented. The tacos were clearly presented with care, but it felt like they need a little more flavor. Maybe more slaw or some hot sauce on the side. They felt a little meh, even if the presentation was nice. All told, this is a perfectly reasonable place to grab dinner and a beer. It's comfortable. It's open late.

We got the Korean dumplings which were very good with Asian zing sauce on them. We also got their nachos which were soggy towards the bottom but had good flavor with bbq sauce and pulled pork. Now they don't offer pulled pork sandwiches but have pull pork on the nachos. My fish and chips were soooooo salty! The tartar sauce was good and French fries. The breading was also soggy but the fish was very tender and nice. The chicken cheesesteaks were good, filling and yummy. The Ale Burger is a double smash burger with good flavor, and a good meal. Really enjoyed a lunch with my family at Ale Mary's after spending a few hours at Steamtown…read more I found parking right up front on the street (lucky, plus the meters were off for the weekend according to staff). The service was slow, but once we were greeted our drinks and food came out quickly. The inside is spacious, it's in an old building dating back to the mid to late 1800's. The high ceilings and metal work inside gives an old industrial feel. The menu had a lot of tasty choices and the beer menu was fantastic. The list of the handhelds/sandwiches is too long to list, but I could have ordered any of them. They have over 100 small and large craft/international beers in bottles or cans and around 20 taps. I had a couple cans of delicious Russian River/WeldWerks collab Convivial which is a hazy imperial IPA. My wife really enjoyed their Buffalo Chicken Flatbread 13.95 - popcorn chicken, house wing sauce, cooper cheese, blue cheese, scallions. It was more than a serving, sizable and fresh. The flavors were balanced and outstanding. I had the Bison Cheesesteak 16.95 - Chipotle bison, pepperjack, bacon chutney, mushrooms, chipotle aioli, toasted hoagie roll. The flavors were balanced, roll was fresh, the serving was large and it was pretty darn good. The meat had a hot dog/pork pate taste. My 5 year old son ordered grilled chicken street tacos 13.95 - Pico de gallo, jalapeno sour cream, queso. Choice of grilled chicken or beef. It came with three and he ate half. We all had a bite and agreed they were fresh, easy to handle and had a delicious mix of flavors, especially the chicken and cheese. My other son had the House Grilled Cheese 9.95 - Boursin, pepperjack, & cooper cheeses on grilled brioche. He enjoyed it, but said it was a little spicy. Although they lacked a "kids menu" my guys found something they enjoyed. The inside was family friendly and they were treated well by the staff. We thought Ale Mary's was a great gastropub and will absolutely repeat when we are back in Scranton. Thanks guys!
