Overall not bad. The atmosphere is very modern but a little loud. The booths could use some Cushioning. Fried pickle appetizer was great. The breading actually stayed on the pickle. My husband got a house salad which was very good and I got the wedge which was huge (almost too big). It was basically almost a whole head of lettuce. Pretty sure the blue cheese dressing was bottle or if not, tasted suspiciously like bottled. Not that I'm against bottles dressing but this seemed like a place that would make their own and they could probably benefit from it. Husband got fish and chips which at first was disappointing as it was just fried breading and no fish inside. It was also burnt. My daughter got the same and she got a huge, thick piece of fish which was perfectly fried. My husband told the waitress and she at first seemed like she didn't care and then she suggested bringing him another piece which my husband was fine with. The second piece was very nice but had a lot of Oil in it still. Suggestion: have someone checking orders before they go out as that first piece of fish was clearly sub-par. I got shrimp and grits. Shrimp cooked great. Grits creamy with chorizo sausage which added a lot of heat. Overall pretty good but a little salty. They didn't have cocktail sauce for the fish which I found weird as they have a lot of seafood on their menu. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed and almost as if she was in distress. We didn't have to wait long for our food and it came out hot so no complaints there. If this place can get through its growing pains and get more consistent with the quality of the food they'll do fine. read more

I keep trying to give this place a chance, because the food is really good, but I'm struggling. Every time I go the food takes forever to come out, the staff seem to be quite young, inexperienced and dress like they're going skate boarding, just woke up, or missed a bath. The one seasoned waitress I did have once, seemed to develop an attitude after I asked about my meal containing pork or not. But today, was the final straw. I ordered take out (since Ive completely given up on trying to dine in) and I ordered two beverages with my meal. When I arrived at the hostess desk to pick my food up my drinks had already been accessed with the unwrapped straws in them. When I mentioned this to the young lady, she simply hunched her shoulders and said that's how they always do with take out orders... Even a drive thru would give you a straw and allow you to put it in your drink yourself... I discarded the drinks, and so, that's the final straw (pun intended) for me trying to be a patron of this neighborhood establishment. read more

I came here with two others. The pickle fry appetizer was a great start, I got the salmon entree but everything was so good my whole party ended up sharing. the soup bread was killer, the consistency was so smooth it almost reminded me of a flan, but which a crispy crust. the salmon had a garlic honey that complemented the rest of the dish wonderfully. Our waiter, josh, was energetic and attentive, and our food came out promptly. the setting and decoration was very lowkey but comforting. overall this place is awesome, and I'm surprised it doesn't have a higher overall rating. read more

We ordered the farro bowl with steak for the wife and I had the pork porterhouse. Everything was prepared well and the portions were spot on. The porterhouse was cooked just right, the spoon bread was creamy, sweet, and a little salty (perfect), and the haricot verts (green beans) were still crunchy but warmed through (as they should be). What a nice hidden gem. I drove by it several times and didn't know it was there. Took the wife out for a late lunch to check this place out and it was great. Sharon helped us decide on a few of their craft beverages and holy smokes they were good. The wife enjoyed the Toasted Pina Colada and I had the Bourbon Espresso. Great drinks and good prices. We both had the Southwest bowls, hers with salmon and mine with braised brisket. Both were great and very filling. The ambience was great and the staff were helpful and friendly. Went here for the first time tonight and had an absolutely scrumptious meal with the hubby! The bartender Alejandro was the best. Hilarious, welcoming, and made me the best cosmo I've ever had the pleasure of drinking! He even was making jokes when I accidentally spilled Hubby's Michelob. Update to previous review.., 4 of us sat at back bar for dinner. So this is a group review. We all got fish n chips. Excellent and two of the group were able to get sweet potato fries instead of the regular "chips" and those were a hit. Calamari app still good. Side of sprouts was good. Drinks including cocktails were good but $9 was the most I've ever paid for a local draft Pilsner. Only 12 oz too. First time in my life I wish I'd asked for a beer price list. Live and learn. Kailey at the bar was delightful and provided excellent service. Charlie would be cute if he'd smile a little. Still kind of a 3.5 star experience overall. Will probably keep going back since it's one of few places in this part of NK. read more

I went with a friend for lunch about 2 months ago. The restaurant was very pretty. However, the food was pretty pitiful. I had the barbacoa tacos and when they came to the table I almost laughed out loud. There were 3 tacos with a bit of meat, a red onion slice, and 1/2 a pineapple ring straight from the can... It was very bland and the quality definitely didn't match what I paid. I hope they do okay, but man, I don't think I'll be back any time soon. read more

We are so excited to have a local restaurant with different menu options than pizza and Mexican. The menu boasts a wide variety. Service was slow because they had a call out and must still be hiring. One of our dishes had to be returned, because it contained pork and the manager and waitress handled it with haste and care. Stupendous service and beautiful building. The atmosphere was really nice but it was pretty empty for a Saturday night. They give you water when you first sit down which is nice but the second pitcher of water the waitress gave us tasted really soapy. We ordered the kale and artichoke dip which was supposed to come with naan to dip in it but it instead came with chips. We weren't told, until we pointed it out to the waitress, that they were out of naan. we were a little disappointed because we wanted the naan but the dip was really good! The food came out and most of it was really delicious even tho they gave me the wrong meat in my bowl without saying anything, but the main problem was the rice!! the rice seemed microwaved and was very mushy. Had heard great things about the food but too many comments about service, so we decided to wait several months before visiting. 1. Decor and atmosphere are great. 2. Disappointed tea was not brewed onsite, but not a game changer 3. Order salads all around and sandwiches/entrees. Within 20 minutes our entrees arrived but no salad. Our original server came back and was surprised we hadn't received our salads first. 4. I'll leave the rest of my party to post or not about their food, but my shrimp & grits arrived cold and without the first ingredient listed in the description - chorizo. As we've been to the other restaurants operated by this restaurant group, I was disappointed in tonight's experience. So I'm only leaving a 3 star review because I didn't actually eat here. Note: this is the second time I've been in this establishment without trying food. The first time I was taken back by how it was located under what looked to be a gym. Upon entering and being seated it was loud and echoey, seats were too close together and it reminded me of the gym upstairs. For the prices this is an extremely uncomfortable place. It was so off putting after about 10 minutes for waiting for a server I just walked out. This time I sat at the bar. The chairs are too short for the bar and the bar is very tall in comparison. We sat in front of the kitchen which is open for guests to view. I decided not to eat there because of this. It was dirty. There was grease slashes on the stainless steal and the equipment looked well used and like they haven't been cleaned. The kids working back there were dressed in basically street clothes looking unkempt. The reason I opted out of food was I saw employees personal belongings and clothing sitting above plates and on top of bread. It looked dirty. If you have an open kitchen I think you should make sure things like this are out of public sight or not happening. It looked so unprofessional for a place that serves entrees over 30$ a plate. I'm writing this review and not leaving a bad rating so the owners and managers can be aware of this and fix the issues. I had really wanted to try your food, but probably won't be back because of this. read more

I believe this restaurant has only been open about six months. The building looks brand new. Inside was very modern clean and tastefully decorated. Our waitress Lindsay was very professional, Friendly, and knowledgeable. The four of us each got a burger and they were able to adjust it to our liking. Everything came out perfect. The french fries were little discs that tasted like tater tot's! I have never seen fries like this! the adult beverages, or a decent pour. Pricing was average. Parking was plentiful. The only two negative things I have to say is there were no TVs in the bar area for watching games. And numerous items are not available on Sunday because they have run out. I live in patriots landing and this is the worst restaurant ever. I've been there four times and the food has been cold. I sent my food back and they put it under the heat lamp for 30 seconds and brought me back the same food that was ice cold on the inside. This place is management needs to change. Went to this restaurant on our way to Jolene winery. What a great discovery! The menu was great, and everyone found something they liked. The service was good, and staff was very friendly. Management and service is a problem with this restaurant - customer satisfaction means nothing here. I have had 2 bad encounters only going back the second time to try and give the restaurant aanother chance and they failed from the start so my friends and I left without eating. My first experience with my family was hair in my husband's food - management gave a half-hearted sorry and then acted like they were doing us a huge favor to not charge my husband for his meal that he promptly returned after 2 bites when he found the hair. He was literally nauseated as this was a long hair intertwined with the breading on the chicken and got caught in his teeth - it was really gross. They still charged him for his beverage and everyone else at the table. Thinking management might have been more embarrassed and at least offered him a free meal in the future OR something but nope didn't matter to them at all that he couldn't eat and enjoy the meal with relatives we hadn't seen in some time. THEN two nights ago on 12/12/24 my girlfriends wanted to meet for our Christmas get together and have a few drinks and dinner. Unable to find information on their website, I called on 12/10 to ask about their happy hour and was told yes, they had a happy hour from 4 to 6 and then was told the happy hour offers. When we arrive at the restaurant at 5pm, there were only 2 other tables seated. The place did not have anything special for the Christmas season (no seasonal atmosphere) so if you are looking for that , don't look towards Coopers. We sat down and then were told happy hour is only if you sit at the bar. We didn't want to sit at the bar, we are older and one of us is handicapped. Explained this would not work AND when I had called about happy hour, the man answering my questions NEVER said you had to sit at the bar to participate in happy hour. The manager came over and after I explained the phone call her response was, did you get the person's name? It was as if she was saying she did not believe me and then she said she would "allow" us to get one round if we walked to the bar (which is literally steps away from the table) placed and paid for our order and carried it back to the table. We were willing to do but but when she would "allow" us one round (which we probably would have only had 2 drinks each anyway) I told her we had come for happy hour not one round. She gave an expression of take it or leave it. I expressed her offer was "big of her!" We left because after this we were not feeling any Christmas spirit AT ALL! This is a small community and this treatment (business) will not last long with the warm and friendly New Kent residents. No more chances from me if they care so little for their customers. read more

Our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. We got the tuna and wings for appetizers and they were delish! Our entrees were great as well. For a newer place we were pleasantly surprised! I asked for a mock tail and was brought a glass of syrup. (Not literally but it may as well have been) our server was not attentive or very helpful when asked for suggestions. The food was mediocre. Let me start this by saying we recently left the city food scene and moved to New Kent. It was a ROUGH adjustment. When we found Cooper's we were over the moon to have a clean, attractive restaurant that served solid cocktails and food. Do I wish there was more food? Yes. But that's my only gripe. Crab cakes are delicious. Wedge salad is also a go to. Is it like dining in the city? Kind of. I'm glad they're here and I want them to do well. We held the rehearsal dinner for my son and his fiancé at Cooper's Tavern and it was everything we hoped for! We rented out the taproom and patio areas for happy hour and dinner. From planning to execution the team was outstanding, accommodating, and best of all fun! The venue was perfect...modern, open, inviting ,upscale and yet casual. We had so many guests tell us how much they loved the food and the whole experience. Most importantly, the special couple said it was exactly what they had envisioned for their rehearsal dinner. The service was exceptional...everyone was so fun. We are trying to think of more events we can hold at Cooper's! read more
